Every turn reveals something unexpected--author-inspired signposts, book-themed sculptures, hidden art, and thoughtful details that reward those who slow down and explore. I especially loved the playful signs pointing to literary legends like Twain, Rice, Burroughs, and Poe. They add a sense of curiosity and wonder that makes the park feel less like a public space and more like an outdoor storybook. The landscaping is beautiful and well-maintained, with winding paths, mature trees, colorful flowers, and plenty of shaded spots to sit and relax. It's the perfect place to enjoy a coffee, take a break from sightseeing, read a book, or simply people-watch. What I appreciate most is how Charlotte has blended art, literature, and green space into something accessible and welcoming. Whether you're visiting the nearby museums, attending a convention, grabbing dinner, or just exploring Uptown on foot, The Green is worth a stop. It's charming, creative, walkable, and distinctly Charlotte. Life is too short not to wander down an unexpected path once in a while. The Green is a wonderful place to do exactly that.

As someone who moved here from the Bay Area and is still finding my favorite outdoor spaces in…read moreCharlotte, I'm always on the lookout for places that offer a little peace and beauty in the middle of a busy day. The McGill Rose Garden absolutely delivered on that. This is truly a beautiful venue--lush flowers everywhere, winding walk paths, and plenty of places to sit quietly and just take it all in. It's the kind of space where you can slow down, clear your head, and quite literally stop and smell the roses. I found it to be a wonderful spot for reflection, a casual stroll, or simply enjoying nature without needing to leave the city. One of the things I especially appreciated is that you can enhance the experience with a visit to the wine bar onsite, Rosie's Wine Garden, where you can grab a coffee, cocktail, or glass of wine and then wander the grounds at your own pace. It adds a relaxed, almost European feel to the whole experience. A quick heads-up: parking can be a bit tricky, as the entrance is off a busy street, so just take your time and be patient when pulling in. Once you're there, though, it's well worth the effort. Bottom line: If you're looking for a small but charming botanical-style garden in Charlotte--a quiet place to reset, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors--this is a lovely little gem. For me, it checked all the boxes and has become a welcome respite in the middle of a busy day.

Rosie's Coffee and Wine is adjacent and service there was super friendly and fast. There is indoor seating there, but the gardens have little twists and turns and different areas to sit, too. When we visited it wasn't too busy, so we had our choice of tables. There was a birthday or bachelorette type of party in another part of the garden.

Putting Cordelia Park in my "hidden gem" folder in a city that is continuing to grow and evolve…read more I had driven on North Davidson hundreds of times and saw the sign for this park, but the real trick is to stop and spend some time here. There's a great gated parking lot that allows families and visitors to park and get to the playground, there's also the pool (closed in the winter time) but I basically came here in search of an outdoor stair workout. Not only does the greenway come through the park, but there's a big elevation difference that allows for some gorgeous city views! The park also has some nice business neighbors like the Hobbyist and a Pho place, really nice way to start a Saturday is to workout, and then grab a coffee from the Hobbyist. I'm curious how booked up the event space is for the park since the back of the building is all glass and looks out to the gorgeous city skyline.

If you're looking for a spot to get some walking and some fresh air, you can definitely get that accomplished here. And for a bonus, there are a couple of curbside restaurants at 24th Street that you can pick up for an outdoor picnic in the park. This is a lovely outdoors space in the middle of an urban area.
