The office was very clean and up to date. Everyone working was really nice. However I have to give 3 stars for the poor proactive customer service. I felt a bit scammed when I called the front office asking them "do you accept my insurance" and they responded "yes". Fast forwarded after my appointment I check my explanation of benefits and I saw I was being charged for out of network expenses. I called the office asking why I was being charged for OON and their response was "you asked if we accept your insurance. But you didn't ask if we were within network with your insurance". I feel the communication could improve in order for better customer service to help educate others who don't live in the confusing health insurance world. My only complaint. read more

Quality of dental care and efficiency of staff--five stars plus. The best around. Billing practices--very poor. Namely, the patient is required to pay before service, and not just pay in full but pay for any possible add ons. If those are not required, one then gets a refund check. My dental surgery was on June 10. I am supposed to receive a refund of $350 in the mail today, August 5. That is an unacceptable tie-up of my money. Very disappointed with this office. MILITARY MEMBERS get a second opinion before going with this office for wisdom!!! I went to this office for a referral a few weeks ago. When I first arrived I asked if my insurance went through okay, as I like to always confirm. I was told everything went through okay. I then had the consult. I was referred by my orthodontist so I thought this office was the best choice. The doctor went through everything that was needed, then told me that I needed a 3D scan for "further evaluation" they told me this was not covered by insurance. When I went to get the scan i noticed that it was the same machine as the one I had done at my dentist. When I questioned it, I was told that it is the same machine but they have to change a setting. I asked if the change of the setting was the reason for the charge, and they said yes. At that point I was pretty annoyed. I then finished the consult and sat at the front to go over paperwork. I was quoted 3100 for the wisdom teeth to be pulled, and my copay would be 2400. THEY ARE NOT IN NETWORK WITH MILITARY INSURANCE! I was told that everything that day was covered except the 3D scan which was 247.00. I gave her my card, signed and left. A week later I got a call that she charged me only 24.70 instead of 247.00. I let her know I would call back when I had time as I was traveling. I then received a bill for 319.00 in the mail. They added on an evaluation of 139.00! I decided to call LOMPOC ORAL SURGERY. They got me set up for an appointment pretty quickly (TODAY). They went over the same treatment plan the morning of and confirmed the insurance before bringing me back for the teeth to be pulled. The charge for the whole procedure was $680.00. This included everything Wilson was quoting me! The 3D scan at this office was 125.00 at this office with no charge of an evaluation. I was called today by the staff for payment and to set up a time for surgery, and when I expressed that I already had the surgery done, and that I was very upset with their office, the lady became very rude. I let her know that they should know better that they are not in network for military members before trying to charge then 2500+. All she had to say is that she doesn't know what lompoc orals codes are. VERY DISSATISFIED with this office!!! read more

I asked for a different referral than Anthony Pitrowsky (as their practice is waaaaay busy). I'm so happy I did. I was referred to Wilson Slaughter oral surgery & was operated on by Dr. Hume. He's an older gentleman with years of experience. I had my tooth pulled & had the best experience I have ever had. He was a good listener, gentle with his numbing shot, sensitive to my request during the procedure and was so quick I didn't realize he was finished. I had NO pain afterward ... seriously NO discomfort. This has never happened before, which is why I felt compelled to write a review about Dr. Hume. He called last night to check in on me. If it's even possible to be happy about a dental visit, especially a pulled tooth, than I am over the moon with the service I received. His staff is also professional and very kind. read more

I was sent to the Arroyo Grande office this week by my local VA (Santa Maria) for a tooth extraction and saw Dr Hume and his assistant. They were very caring and explained my procedure completely while asking me repeatedly if I was having any pain. The extraction took very little time and I was sent home with instructions. Dr Hume called me that evening to see how I was doing and the next day I received another call from Angie to again see how I was doing. My appt and after care calls were very much appreciated. Slaughter Wilson was in-network with my dental plan, so I chose them to remove a tooth that had been bothering me for a year. When we set the appointment, I found that the new patient form could be accessed on their website, information typed in, and the form submitted directly into their system. When I arrived for my appointment, the signature pages were ready for me to sign. I went into the exam room promptly, and the dental assistant reviewed my medical history and prepared my x-rays for Dr. Slaughter. Dr. Slaughter then came in and also reviewed my medical history and went over the procedure. I then met with the office manager, and she reviewed the total cost and what my out of pocket responsibility would be. I used a local anesthetic, and the surgeon made sure that I was sufficiently numb prior to starting the procedure. The actual proceedure took less than 15 minutes, and there was no pain at all. Afterward, the dental assistant reviewed the post-op instructions making sure that I understood everything. I went home and took one pain pill as a preventive and had no pain the remainder of the day. Dr. Slaughter called at 6:45 that evening and left a voice mail stating that if I was having any issues to call the office in the morning. I have never had this positive or efficient experience in a dentist's office ever. I highly recommend Slaughter Wilson to anyone having oral surgery needs. read more

I couldn't say enough good things about this office. Getting your wisdom teeth out is not something that anyone (that I've ever met) looks forward to. I got mine taken out Friday by Dr. Slaughter. I was beyond nervous. They had a way of putting me at ease. They put me under and I don't remember a thing from the whole surgery. I woke up and fell back asleep the whole way home. I got a phone call from him Friday night just checking in on me. I was so impressed and so touched that the doctor takes the time out of his night to check on his patients like that. I was referred here by my dentist to get my upper wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Wilson and his team were very nice and addressed all my questions. I chose to have my teeth removed at the Santa Maria site, which was a great looking facility. Seemed like I was in and out on my operation day; easy peasy. Dr. Wilson even called to see how I was doing later that day. There was little to no swelling or pain. I was eating solid food within 5-6 days. Everything looked fine during my post-op check up. Had a wisdom tooth extracted. While having a tooth extracted would not be my first choice on how to spend an afternoon, they made it as easy and painless as possible. Dr. Hume was professional, and took the time to discuss my options and to explain the procedure. The procedure went as well as could be expected, and this was my fourth wisdom tooth extraction, and the first time without a load of nitrous (which was offered). I only heard great things about Slaughter and Wilson so we went with them to have my sons wisdom teeth pulled instead of the hmo oral surgeon at a much great price. His apt was scheduled for 7:45. On the day before the apt he received a call from Angie who said it may need to be rescheduled and that she would call back. When she called back she said the apt would remain as originally scheduled. But when we arrived from out of town the office was closed and we ultimately were told the apt had been rescheduled to 9:15. Two hour wait in the car before we could be seen. I would not recommend this doctor! Lack of compassion from staff and doctors. The women in charge of billing is extremely rude & it NEVER returns phone calls. I had to call everyday for a week just to get a hold of her. She billed my consultation appt. correctly but billed my actual surgery to ANOTHER insurance company! This caused weeks of hassle and phone calls. If you do decide to go with these guys. MAKE SURE you get a WRITTEN confirmation of all charges BEFORE you have the surgery. Otherwise they will over charge you after your surgery is done! I was told I was to pay $600 out of pocket & my insurance was pre-approved for the rest of the amount.
