you ever need to get your hardwood floors resurfaced I would not call Wilson's Floor Sanding Service they are not for the working person we were supposed to get our rental home resurfaced called them told them that we work that we would be there all day Saturday and Sunday however we didn't get there at 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning because my husband get up at 3:50 in the morning and don't get home till after 4pm that being said the guy said he would give us an hour prior to coming to give us a heads up to get there he called us 15 minutes I'm sorry he text did not call 15 minutes before he showed up then called and said he was there. I told him I'm sorry you were supposed to call I can be there in 15 minutes (which technically it takes me 10 I times on time to myself). He then told me that didn't work for him he had to pick up his son and that MAYBE he would call Saturday or Sunday in which he never did!!!!!! He was very condescending, rude and arrogant like I said not for the working class unless you're sitting home all day waiting for just him or that you live there and whenever he decides to come be there then I wouldn't even bother with this company because he surely cannot bothered by anybody that is working 5 days a week 10 hour days and that needs to get a little bit of a break!!!! Being there also all day Saturdays and Sundays does not mean the crack of dawn when you have been working all week it means when you get up you go over there which usually we're there at 9:30 10:00 but that day my husband slept in and I let him (once again he was supposed to call 1 hour prior to not text or call 15 minutes before you're there and when you're there )so he was irritated to that fact. We had a lot of damage on certain spots of the flooring Which they were able to make look awesome. They did so a few repairs as well without charging a fortune. My friend recommended Wilson's after having his floors redone two years ago. After seeing the work they did, I had no reason to worry--it was a good job. But that is apparently no longer the case. I had Wilson's out to my home a month ago and I am pretty upset. To the point that I am not even trying to have them come and fix the job. They told me there would be 'some touch up' regarding the base trim and casing around the perimeter of my rooms, doors, and stairs. What I came to see after the stain was applied was comparable to what a 12 year old might be able to do. There was stain on a bunch of my new baseboard, casing, and all down my stairs. When I asked Jimmy why they didn't tape, or why he didn't tell me there would be this amount of repainting required, he said 'Well I did tell you there would be some touch up'. Yes Jimmy, you did. There is quite a big difference between some touch up, and you will be needing to repaint every piece of trim surrounding the floors we work on. That was complaint #1. #2 is that they either did not fill and sand gaps/scratches like they said they would, or they just did such a terrible job that I can't tell which. #3 is that when they came to do the first (or second) coat of poly, they must not have brushed or blown out there roller and now I have tiny hairs/fibers in the top coat of my brand new floors. Thanks Jimmy, and thanks to Wilson's for completely ruining what should have been a pleasant experience for both of us. I will be taking all my future business elsewhere. read more

I was really hoping to be able to come give a good review. I had them out to my house over a year ago to give me a quote. At that time the owner (who has recently died) came out and gave me a quote of $760. Some time passed and we decided to get the work done. Fast forward about a year. I contact the company and get ahold of someone who then says I need to talk to "Mike". Mike calls me a bit later and I tell him the history and ask for a date to get the job done. He asks me the sq. footage of the flooring so i calculate that and also send him (via text) 2 pictures of the floor. He gives me a quote over the phone of $680 and we set up a date. On the day of the job, the crew showed up on time. "Mike" walks in and immediately says, "This is going to be more than i quoted you because its a pre-finished floor". I was a bit shocked at this but asked how much. He said he would measure and get me a new quote. He went outside and rather than come back in himself, he sends a crew worker in with the new quote of $890. I told the coworker NO WAY. He went out and Mike came in. Mike told me that his boss (The New Owner) was going to yell at him because of the price difference. Now remember, Mike chose to give me a quote over the phone and not come look at the job. I told him I would call the owner to explain the situation and he mumbled that "Shes not around...". He also told me that they take cash only. Seemed a bit fishy, like maybe he is trying to pocket some of the money for himself. Eventually I told him I would pay the original quote amount of $760. They did the job and the crew themselves were relatively professional (other than one of them leaving a empty bottle in my kitchen). The work was "OK". There were 2 main issues with the work: 1) there were a few roller lines left in one area and 2) they used DUCT TAPE where my carpet meets the wood to protect the carpet. Duct tape is VERY sticky and when I removed it it pulled some of my carpet up with it. Bottom line: I heard great things about them in the past and did not shop around. I would shop around at this point! read more

Panic-stricken with my floors fudged up, still wet/sticky with stain, out a lot of cash, and living out of a 10 sq foot section on the couch in the living room with furniture/clothing strewn about.... I was desperate for someone to fix the botchy job Mark Schultz performed on my hardwoods. The whole point in hiring someone to refinish my floors was to make them -better- than what they were[and they weren't bad minus the paint in kolten's room]! I called Jeff Wilson [very nice and trustworthy] and he was willing to squeeze me in and come take a look at how to fix what should-have-been african walnut but looked more like a brindle cat. He knew I had been a victim of a "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" from the 1st contractor, and he took it easy on me. I should have gone with him in the first place!! Him and his crew were wonderful to work with. It was still a 2 day process, but if it could have been done in one day, they would have been in my space a max 30 mins!!! They re-sanded my floors completely down, filled them, stain, clear coat and shazam!! "New" floors!! Jeff is such a great person to deal with...I thought the process would take longer and hadn't gone to the ATM yet when they arrived, and came up short with the cash I had on me, and he completely called it even. I will definitely use him in the future and recommend him. The best thing is, 2 members of Wilson's crew will come back the next day and move your furniture and put slider pads underneath them for $60 an hour. They move quick, and I only had to pay $60. Don't even bother trying to hire these guys if you live in Detroit!!! I live on Detroit's east side in a historic house on a quiet block. I hired Wilson's to do my floors because their prices seemed competitive. And they had good reviews. But on the day of my scheduled job no one showed or called. When I called Jeff's phone (owner) I was told that the job foreman had driven by and was "too scared of the neighborhood". When I asked why, the guy's reason was an abandoned house on the corner (because of course there are none of those in Detroit) and a shooting on 7 mile and Livernois (miles and miles away on the west side). Odd that in this "scary" neighborhood I have managed to survive as a single woman for 4 years and have never had any problem. My neighbors are engineers, doctors and retirees - not criminals. Disappointing and unprofessional. Could the answer to why Detroit's historic neighborhoods are falling into ruin be prejudiced (racist?) contractors like these guys turning down our work? Called and talked to a guy that was either the owner or a shot caller. very friendly. gave me the number of one guy to come out and give me an estimate, but was told by that individual that traveling from Dearborn to Belleville was too far. The work that Wilson did was well done. But it was far more money than I was quoted due to the fact that they failed to ask me if I wanted a color or just natural. My entire house is done in early American on the floors, many of which they did. They didn't ask me if I wanted a color until they were ready to start the job. Secondly, they did my stairs going to the second floor. They only did the tops of the steps and not the fronts. So now looking, looking like crap I need to find someone else to do the fronts. When I asked them, they said they don't do the front. So I paid $500 for the tops of the steps when I thought they would do the whole step. Communication was very poor throughout the job. I never had issues with them in the past jobs they did for me but obviously something has been lost over time. Not the same company I knew in the past. read more

Very happy with my recent service. I called Wilson's on Monday morning and was set up with an appointment Thursday morning the same week. They came out on time, the owner came along to supervise his workers and gather the payment (which was very reasonable) I paid $560 for the main level living areas of a 1200sq bungalow to be done. They were in and out in about an hour and a half for day one of the process. (Patching/sanding/first coat) The next morning they came nice and early to apply one more coat and 6 hours later they were done and looked beautiful! read more

I used this company about 18 months ago. Couldn't have been more pleased with their work and professionalism. I referred my daughter to them 2 weeks ago, and it's been a nightmare ever since. Apparently since I used this company the owner has passed away, and no in the hands of new people. When they arrived at my daughters home to refinish a kitchen floor, the floor had black tar paper stuck to the wood, Jimmy from Wilson's told them they need to sand it off before he could sand the floor. He said if you get it off this weekend I will come back on Monday to finish the job. My son in law spent the weekend working on the floor, texted Jimmy on Sunday evening and sent pictures of the floor. He responded saying he would be back on Monday. My son in law took the day off and waited for them, and waited and waited with no response for Jimmy after multiple calls, finally at 4 pm he used my daughters phone to call him and he answered stated he was still coming, 6 pm still no Jimmy. He did final call about 9pm stating he would come on Tuesday. My son in law request he come as early as possible since he had already lost a day of work and needed to go into work Tuesday. He responded he couldn't promise a time. He did come Tuesday morning sanded the floors but not to the walls left a 2 foot premiter which cabinets will not hide, when you pay for a room to be sanded and finished it should be the entire room. He also did not have pine colored wood filler, he told my son in law to go buy it and fill all the nail holes??? Isn't that what you are paying for??? My son in law also asked him to use water based poly as the floor is pine and oil based will turn it yellow, he used oil based and now their floor glows. After calling the owner and basically being told Jimmy should have never taken this job, apparently they don't need the business. And on top of all this there where multiple comments from the workers that where inappropriate. For instance my son in law said I really don't mean to be difficult, but I am paying for a service Jimmys response, don't worry about it, we will just talk bad about you when we leave. They also damaged the good hardwood floors in the dining room from dragging there equipment across the floor, even though my son in law asked the to use the door off the kitchen. So use them at your own risk. I will tell everyone I know looking to refinish floors beware of Wilson floor sanding. The company they once where is no longer. read more

I was just going to let this go but I can't. The workmen ship has gone. They did work a few years ago, Jeff and his crew did a wonderful job. Mike and his crew SUCK!!!! My floors are rough they mark up very easy, I had told them about two scratches I put on the floor while moving my furniture if they could fix them no problem on the last day I asked Mike about them he did wharever told me the more I walked on the floor the less I would see them. Mike said the same thing about the floor being rough oh the more you walk on them the smoother they will get while my floors are still rough. Called Mike about two months later said he would be out while 1Year later still no Mike called again haven't heard from him. No way will I use them again and I tell people don't use wilson!!!! read more

I had this company give me an estimate on my floors. Should have known what was coming when they didn't even come out to look at them first. We moved our furniture out into the garage, paid someone to repair the wood (they actually did a great job) and waited for them to show up. They came into the house, spread filler all over my floor and let it dry. They started to sand and then abruptly stopped. They told me my floor was ruined and could not be saved. I was told that the best I could do was paint with kills and then carpet over it. We were talking about 400 square feet of original red oak. I called Remington Floor Company and they just finished the job this morning. It looks awesome. They charged twice what Wilson did but hey they saved my floor! You get what you pay for. read more

I am a retired police detective and my wife and I live in a 75 year old colonial in west Dearborn. In the past I have done all of our home improvement projects including sanding floors. My wife suggested that this time I treat myself and let somebody else do the work. We have seen the Wilson Floor Sanding trucks around the City for decades and called them without referrals or comparison shopping. We were going to have all of the floors on the second floor done but because of the size of the house we had to do one room at a time. Mike and his crew showed up to do the first room on time. The quote seemed very reasonable and over the next three days Mike and his crew sanded and applied three coats of finish leaving the floor looking like new. I just want to say I never write reviews but I had to considering what I had gone thru the last few weeks. I had a company come to my house called Johnson Flooring....DO NOT USE THEM. He started sanding on Monday, didn't show up to my house for 3 days and finally came Saturday and Sunday to finish the stain and top coat. First, he didn't put enough stain on and second he used a water coat base which made my floors look like crap. I was in tears when I seen the finish project. I new I had to find another company to finish the job so Wilson's Flooring came across and I seen great reviews. Jeff came to my house and was amazing and considerate. He was so thorough with everything he was going to do to my floors. His Men showed up at my house a few days later. They are really professional. They put a sign in my front yard and handed me brochures on what they are doing to my floors and the after care. They took the time out to sand a portion of my floor and put down 5 different colors so I can pick a color(Johnson flooring never gave me that option). In less than 5 hours they sanded and stain my floors!!!! When I got home that night I was able to see the finish product. For the next 3 days Jeff will come out and put the top coat on to make my floors shiny!!! I am so happy I found them to fix my floors I will recommend them to everyone I know :) read more

Stay away from this company at all costs! This is the best advice you will get all year! This company has a horrible reputation. I had an appointment that they could not keep and Mr. Wilson himself told me he would either have to come right then (4 hours before my appointment) or forget it - he had enough work and couldn't come later because he had a cancellation and didn't want to wait around for 4 hours (even though I only live 20 minutes from his shop). I hired someone else who did a fabulous job. When I started talking to people about my experience I found out Wilson's has a terrible reputation from several people who had called him because of his cheap prices. His work is bad and if you don't like it - they don't care. DO NOT USE WILSONS FLOOR SANDING COMPANY! I made an appt with Wilsons Floor sanding of Southgate (Jeff Wilson being the owner). I had never used Wilsons prior to this experience however I have recommended him and spoke highly of his company after he did a good job on a friends floor years ago. WOW WHAT A MISTAKE TO RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!!! When I pulled the carpet up I found glue and called immediately. The lady told me it was no problem still no need to inspect floors prior to sanding. He sent his wood repair man (Sonny) ahead to repair some damage $120.00 later, Wilsons employee Ryan shows up and immediately tells me he cannot do the floor because of the glue. I explained that Jeff was already aware of it and told me it was no problem. He tried 40 grit sand paper and the glue came right up so he then tells me he can't do it becuase there were pet stains. Hmmm I would say that many homes in this area have some type of pet stains as they are 50-100+ years old... IT APPEARS THEY WERE JUST TOO LAZY TO DO THE JOB. I CALLED THE OWNER TWICE AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Just waiting for the appt set me back over one week while realtors, buyer and the city are all waiting on me. I would hate to see this happen to others who may have it worse than me by payting to put furniture in storage etc... I was fortunate to find a company who came out and inspected the floor one day later and told me it was no problem to do the floor. There are many other companies out there that can and will do a better job than Wilsons. One is Ibarra's (734) 283-6415 and the other is Remington 888-823-1100 both evaluate before the job and don't leave people hanging while they just walk away. very unprofessional - scheduled an appointment for an estimate for a whole house hardwood floor refinishing for 2 pm on a Wednesday. I spoke with them on Sunday, they were well aware I work until 1 pm and get home from work at 1:30 pm. Even provided them with my cell number so that if they needed to contact me on the day of the appointment they could leave a message which i could listen to while at work. I came home from work at 1:30 to discover that they had called my house phone at 1:03 pm stating that they were wondering if they could come early for our appointment. When i tried to call both the office and the cell # i received no answer - i left SEVERAL messages. I waited at my house until 2:40 and they never showed up to give me the estimate. That was yesterday and I have not heard back from anyone from this company. They never indicated they needed to reschedule or cancel. I called them at 2:40 and left 2 more messages indicating that i was unable to wait any longer and if they wanted to reschedule they could contact me. Guess they aren't interested in any more jobs - makes one wonder how punctual and reliable they actually are. read more

I had many recommendations for Wilsons and we thought we were making a good choice, but this was one of the worst experiences that we have had with a home improvement project. The job was to remove the carpet in our living room and refinish the floor in the living room and an upstairs bedroom. They then ripped up the floor in a hallway that I had specifically told them both verbally and via text not to remove. In the process of removing the carpet they gouged our baseboards in multiple places. They then left the removed carpet and padding in our driveway after paying them $600 for carpet removal. They tried to rectify the situation by leaving us money to recarpet the hallway but $300 was all they left and it costs $900. To top it all off they left half eaten food in our bedroom and there was no work being done in that room and therefore no reason for them to even be in there. I would not recommend this company to anyone, it was a terrible experience, save yourself the trouble. read more
