The walking trail is a mile and a half--perfect distance to earn that snack from the concession stand without breaking too much of a sweat. Parents, the playgrounds here are basically kid energy vacuums. Bring them in bouncing off the walls, take them home napping in the car. Win-win. And sometimes, if you're lucky, you'll catch live music at the amphitheater. It's like a mini Tortuga... if Tortuga had free parking and no sand! Speaking of parking--there's plenty, which is rare enough in South Florida to deserve its own round of applause. Honestly, Pine Trails is the kind of park that makes you forget you're in suburbia. After all, it is the start of summer in South Florida. I tried this park. It's well maintained and has fields for sports including tennis, baseball, and basketball. Plus there is sort of a path that goes around the park (if you include the regular sidewalk on one side). There are a lot of nice trees, but I would say there is about 50% shade coverage. So for me that may not be enough. But for others who want to use the facilities and don't mind the heat, it could be nice.

Although small in size, it's got a lot to offer. It is totally enclosed by a fence. There are shaded benches under large, gorgeous trees. And children's playgrounds -- including one under a tarp so it is covered from the sun. Swings. A basketball hoop to practice; facilities including a water fountain. In addition, there's a path around the outside -- a "health trail". This is like a parcour with different physical level exercises at each stop. Signs explain that there's no alcohol allowed and no pets except on leashes. Also, no smoking. I loved seeing a favorite -- the small free lending library box near one of the fences. It had a nice mix of adult novels and children's books in a colorful little structure. This is a great place for a respite from visiting a loved one at the hospital, a nice lunch break area, or just a fun place to bring the kids to play.

Gwendolyn Maitland, the 14th Countess of Lauderdale, divided her time between her castle near Edinburgh and Palm Beach. While in Palm Beach she discovered Ft. Lauderdale named after her distant ancestor, Major William Lauderdale, during the Second Seminole War. In 1923 Maitland helped form the American British Improvement Association which purchased 8,000 acres of land north of Fort Lauderdale including a mile of oceanfront property. She planned to create a luxury resort in Broward County with the help of investor John S. Pillsbury, co-founder of the Pillsbury food company. The name Floranada was chosen from a mash up of Florida and Canada but the American British Improvement Association went bankrupt in 1926 before the resort could be built. This neighborhood in Ft. Lauderdale still bears the name. Floranada Park is almost 10 acres of outdoor recreational fun. Amenities include an athletic field, open area for play, pavilion, picnic tables, and grill, playground, restrooms, and sand volleyball court. Since the park is next to a school it is open daily after school until 9 PM and all day on the weekends. During the weekdays this park is mainly an extension of the school. During the weekends you will find families picnicking, kids unleashing their energy, and friends playing volleyball. This park adds to the vibrancy of the Floranada community.

There are also 3 roller hockey rinks, 4 multi-purpose artificial turf courts, a skate park, shade covered playgrounds, 3 sand volleyball courts, pickle ball court, an event stage, 5 concession stands with restrooms, 3 picnic shelters with grills, an 8,000 feet exercise trail throughout the park, electric vehicle charging stations, and a bike fixit repair station. While this is primarily a sports park they made sure to include as many amenities as possible. Whether you are looking for action packed sports or quiet relaxation, the Regional Park has something for everyone. One last thing to keep in mind, dogs are not allowed in this park.

This regional park doesn't require any entrance fee on weekends, unlike others such as Miramar Regional. The park is overall super nice and has some of the cleanest park bathrooms I've ever seen. What else would you expect from Weston? If you're looking to play pickleball, the courts are nice and are separated by fences (a luxury you don't see too often) but they only have 4. It does get quite crowded but the community is courteous. You can also find pavilions and patches of open areas to have a picnic or a day outdoors!

I finally stopped coming because some people were not watching their dogs as closely as they should. The worst incident I saw happened when a bike rider was going past the fence. A dog pulled off the leash a man was holding and leaped up and ripped her arm open. After that I was done. The problems of the past seem to be over with the new renovation of the dog park. You must register your pet now in order to use it. Registration is $35 for Coconut Creek residents and $70 for non residents. There are separate parks for large and small dogs. The city has added wash stations and agility equipment for the dogs. The park is lovely since it borders a lake and there are over 60 trees providing shade. Water fountains, benches, and a wash station were also added. Keeping your pet safe is a security fence surrounding the entire dog park. Right now only around 150 dog owners have signed up so the park is never crowded. The park is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. The iconic windmill of the park has now been moved to the inside of the dog park and a lot of landscaping was added. The renovation of the dog park was part of a 3 million dollar Windmill park renovation. Parking used to be dicey but not anymore as the parking lot has been expanded to twice it's size. A new playground has been also added for human kids. Furry kids can be registered at the Community Center up the street on Lyons Road. Once you pay you are given a FOB to enter the dog park fence.
