There are 2 large fields on the east side of the park and 1 smaller field on the west side of the community center. The entrance off of Sunset Strip is for the small field and the community center. The entrance on the east side off of Nob Hill has a large parking lot and is very close to the 2 large fields. There are gates that are open from sunrise to sunset to get into the parking lots.

Everyday for almost 5 years (it felt like more) I was on this field training with either my team (who I did not like) or by myself with my coach, Andres. My teams changed many times over these years. Looking back this field taught me so many really tough lessons about rejection. And even now it is hard for me to look back at these times fondly. I rate this field as a "good" because it made me who I am, but this was a rough 5 years. It makes me feel a bit sad now to look back because at this field, during these practices, playing in these games, I can remember my love for the game slowly fading away. Not to mention my relationship with my dad heavily revolved around soccer, so as my love for the game started to fade so did our relationship.

Sometimes you have to pay to enter the park for a game and sometime you do not. I have also visited this park for a banquet which was held inside one of the convention rooms. It was a very large room and seated about 75 to 100. That particular event was decorated and catered as it was a celebration. What I wanted to bring attention to on this occasion was the ladies bathroom. Although it was operational, it was disgusting. About 4-5 stalls in total, 3 of them look like they were about to overflow with waste inside. I think it would help if Park management would check on the facilities throughout the day while the field is in use. All in all, I think this park is a great asset to the community as it hosts a variety of events. If only we could get that bathroom in order!

This is a beautiful community center located in Volunteer Park in Plantation. The center has…read moremeeting rooms with seating from 10 to 175 people. The main banquet room can seat 50 to 240 people. It has a dance floor and stage and a grand piano can be made available. The center also has a full service kitchen with a convection oven, walk-in cooler, ice machines and commercial warmers. The community center can be rented for weddings and other events. I attend a rummage sale held at the community center that benefited the Plantation Historical Society. Two large rooms were filled with vendors selling books, housewares, clothes, sporting goods, toys, collectibles, and all the usual kind of things you find these second hand item sales. I was able to find a one of a kind fancy feeding station for my dogs that has a crown. It was nice to shop the items and help a worthy organization at the same time. The next event that will be held here is a craft fair to benefit the Plantation Woman's Club on Nov 9 - Nov 10, 2019.

Wimberly, one of the most beloved and dedicated public servants to the City of Oakland Park. His grandparents moved to area in the 1920's where they made their living as vegetable farmers. Harry began his career in Oakland Park by mowing lawns for the City. For the next 40 years he worked in various positions where he led a team of City employees responsible for streets and building maintenance, parks and roads, solid waste, water, stormwater, wastewater, and garage operations. Harry was known as being willing to do any job needed. He became the City's Recreation Director when the parks and recreation departments were combined and retired as the Director of Public Works in 1996. Harry is perhaps most well known for for helping organize the City's first Youth Day celebration in 1957. Youth Day continues to live on with Broward County's longest-running parade and it is still held every year at the park. Today the City of Oakland Park's youth enjoys all that Harry Wimberly put into the city at the Wimberly Athletic Complex. Park amenities include a baseball/softball diamond, concession stand, football field, and hockey rink. Just south of Wimberly Park is the brand New City Park which opened in 2022 and has lighted basketball court, pickleball courts, a woodland themed playground with shade cover, splash pad, and restrooms. Harry Wimberly loved the children of Oakland Park and he was devoted to making it the best city it could be. It is fitting that such an important gathering place and recreational resource in the community carries his name.

After all, it is the start of summer in South Florida. I tried this park. It's well maintained and has fields for sports including tennis, baseball, and basketball. Plus there is sort of a path that goes around the park (if you include the regular sidewalk on one side). There are a lot of nice trees, but I would say there is about 50% shade coverage. So for me that may not be enough. But for others who want to use the facilities and don't mind the heat, it could be nice.
