As I right this I'm very sad and disappointed. Ive been going to this wimpy's location for years . Never had any complaints, until today. I only write this to warn other future customers. Because the prices are way too high to get food that is sub par. First, the bacon on the bacon cheeseburger was not done and it was more like cut up thick ham pieces. Second problem were the jalapeno poppers. For 3.50 I received 3 jalapeno poppers the size of corn nuggets. The lemonade had a really twangy taste and not in a good way. As we were eating our burgers we were throwing most of the pieces of bacon out of the window.Third the burger patty tasted cheap and was crumbly and discolored . Reminded of the off brand burger patties at walmart. I'm not a complainer but I had to return the food. It literally made me sick. The owner at first refused to give me a refund. They have a large menu with lots of great sounding items, but I wanted a cheeseburger. So, I ordered a cheeseburger with mustard, mayo, diced lettuce, and a tomato slice. Sean took me to wimpys for the wall mural. He thought this would be a great place for me to try on yelp. I'm pretty adventurous .. But um naw. This place looked like it was food poisoning potential. Lets be real this is not located in the nice part of dallas. When you roll up there are burglar bars and bullet proof glass..this is where you place your order. The place is littered with hand written notes and postings. It looks more like a concession stand at one of my kids soccer games. There were two ladies inside just standing around. I tried the onion rings...they were dripping in grease, fish grease to be more specific. There is a lot of foot traffic around the resteraunt...people coming and going. Bottom line -- if I ever find myself in a situation where Samuel L Jackson is about to shoot me in the face for stealing a briefcase from his boss, this is the burger I want in my hand. Two things to be aware of before going are that it's cash only, and you can only order from the takeout window. I ordered a simple cheeseburger and fries. I'd estimate wait time for my food to be between 5-10 minutes. The burger was tasty and the fries were crispy. If I've got any food complaints, it's that I only got two little ketchup packets for my fries. First world problems right there. The price of $7.50, tax included, was a pleasant surprise given that it costs quite a bit more to eat at inferior national chain fast food joints anymore. I experienced none of the rudeness mentioned in other reviews. The guy was just all business an no small talk, which doesn't bother me one little bit. This place definitely lives up to the sketchier the location and building, the more legit the food. One other thing to note -- I don't think the hours posted on Yelp are accurate. I believe I saw on their sign that weekend hours are shorter than posted here, so check up on that if you're headed out on a Saturday. read more

Short story: I definitely recommend. My new fave burger in town. Long story: I've passed by so many times and finally went! It looks like a cute mom and pops place. Soon as you pull up just knock on the window, they take your order, and within a few minutes your order is ready and they'll wave at you from the window when it is. They're pretty fast! I gave it a 4 star because of the neighborhood and truthfully there's nothing aesthetic about the area - for those who are into that. If you love dive bars and greasy spoon cafes then you'll love this place. It's walk-up only, you order through a small window and you may have to knock to get their attention. Most folks will get-n-go with their order but I like sitting at one of the outside tables and watching traffic go by. The old adage of "the sketchier the location the better the food" isn't always true - but it is at Wimpy's Famous Hamburgers on Singleton, just west of Downtown Dallas. I got there in the late afternoon - the dining room was closed. But I was able to order through the little, screened service window. I got a cheeseburger-all the way, of course-and a Fanta orange soda for $5 even. I'm a burger lover and this one was right down my alley: juicy and plenty big without being hard to handle. Decided to try Wimpy's on my way back home from downtown Dallas and I must say it's not bad especially for the price. I paid $10.50 for 1 double meat and 1 single meat hamburger both with a side of French fries (no drinks). The hamburgers were fresh off the grill. Nice and hot. They toast the buns to where they have a little buttery crispness to them. Yum! My mouth is watering just thinking about Wimpy's buns! (No disrespect Olive Oil). The meat patties could have used a bit more seasoning but they were still very....mmmmm! Oh my gosh and the French fries were just like I like them. They were, I guess what some people call "shoestring fries" whatever they were they were delicious! Golden brown and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and not at all greasy. The downside is they only have one table outside with two chairs so there is really no place to sit besides your car if that table is in use. I do not believe they have inside dining but not certain since this was my first time here. The serving of fries was tiny. Not a big fan of cash only but made it work. The menu is confusing, split on two sides behind bars and bulletproof glass. There also appears to be a drink and shake menu, and there is old writing on the window, nothing looks the same and it's unclear what the actual menu is. They blare country music radio outside, which didn't seem to fit the vibe of the place at all. You order through a window and have almost no view of the order taker or the interior. I've eaten here twice in one week and I'll definitely be back! I ordered a double meat bacon cheeseburger both times - once with onion rings and once with fries. Everything tastes great. My favorite part of the burger is the way they grill their buns with some butter like the other reviewer said. It's SO delicious! They make a great traditional bacon cheese burger. We really enjoyed the onion rings too. You can't beat the price either. This will be a new guilty pleasure. This place isn't terrible, but it isn't that great either. It's definitely got the funky dive look going on, but it's not as good as it should be. Wimpy's is located in a bad part of town, and consequently there are bars on all the windows. You order your food at a counter from outside. Service is friendly and fast. Please note that they take cash only. The menu items are inexpensive. Hamburgers here are marginal. Mine was an oh-so-obviously previously frozen patty that was perfectly round and stamped from a machine. The texture was tough and dry, and the flavor left something to be desired. The bacon, lettuce, onion, cheese and tomato were all fresh though. The fries were good too. However, if you plan on putting ketchup on them, you might want to think twice. They give you a generic brand of ketchup called "House Recipe" which has a sickeningly sweet taste and a weird sour flavor. I know from past experience that it's bad enough that my wife and I agreed that it ruins anything it touches. I'm not one to shy away from places in bad parts of town, but this one just ain't that great. It would be a LOT better if they used fresh beef. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It advertises charcoal grilled burgers and frozen custard, but I doubt either of those things has passed through it's dingy window in decades. The menu is extensive and, in fairness to the place, I admit I only tried a burger and fries. Other reviews suggested a double might be the way to go, but this burger was so disgusting I was wishing for far less beef, or whatever that was. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if that cow was last roaming the plains during the Nixon administration. The fries were not bad, thankfully, as I needed them to get the taste of the burger out of my mouth. I hope someone will buy this place and restore it to its former glory. Finally stopped here after 10-years of just driving by it on the way to work early mornings. Glad I did: what a good old fashioned delicious burger (ok, cheeseburger, double-meat too). And non-soggy crisp on the outside thin fries. My first time there this week, even missed the order Window.
