Chip's has grown and expanded over the years but to me that adds to the nostalgic charm. 1 Star. Service - Chip's may have invented counter service. Upon entering, you look at the menu posted on the wall and place your order. You'll get a number (or they'll ask for your name), and you grab a table, and when your food is ready it comes out. Fast, efficient, and the staff was super friendly. 1 Star. Food - Chip's is known for its poppy seed hamburger buns. While it's pretty and tasty, the most important part, the patty, is pretty average. Honestly, there are many other great burger joints in Dallas. On the other hand, the fried onion strings are a must order for your side. While I wasn't a fan of the burger, the fried onion strings saved my meal. The Oreo and Fresh Banana shakes were also a nice cold, creamy, sweet ending to my meal. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. I hope Chip's never changes. Honestly a pretty good solid hamburger. This place was refreshing on our trip to Dallas because it was "normal". No pretentiousness or snooty vibes. Just straight up classic counter service and I was happy for it. The reason I take off one star is because I ordered the turkey burger, but when the chef brought it out he said "here's your chicken burger". So I'm not actually sure what I ate, but I'm also okay with that. It's kinda like a pick your path you know? Anyway I'd definitely go back. Super tasty and the bun was great. The fries were great. I do not know why it's been so long since I've visited Chips Old Fashion Hamburgers. It was outstanding my burger was cooked perfectly and it was juicy, juicy enough that I had to use napkins. The tater tots were cooked to perfection, nice and crispy. The staff was very friendly and the place very clean. The bartender., Sydney and the GM Derrick were very helpful. They explained the menu and pointed their best burger. They have lots burgers to choose from and they offer salads, sandwiches, and steak fingers. Let's just say, lots of options to choose from. Chips Old Fashioned Hamburgers serves up a a pretty good 1/2 pound burger. I went with a poppy seed bun, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions (instead of raw), plus a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked exactly how I ordered--medium well--with a nice juicy bite. The poppy seed bun had a fresh taste and was super fluffy on top. Veggies tasted fresh too, but I wish there were more of them. The lettuce was pretty minimal and I barely caught a pickle in there, so maybe thicker cut pickles or just more of them would take it up a notch. The only thing keeping this from a perfect score was the bun situation--the top was great, but the bottom came out soggy, and no one likes a soggy bun. Sweet potato fries were on point--crispy outside with a soft inside. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The space has a cool, old-fashioned vibe, and there's even a bar connected to the restaurant. Not sure if it's officially part of it, but it's pretty cool that they're connected. Was taken to Chips for an early dinner. I ordered a burger medium with all the fixings. We also ordered onion rings. They are the stringy kind. They were so delicious! A little spot hidden outside of the Bishop Arts boundaries in Oak Cliff. Great place to grab a bite to eat when everyone has different dietary requests. They serve beef, mushroom and tuna burgers. Or, you can have a salad or chicken. No matter what you get, the portion sizes are satisfying. While the customer service is friendly, you do have longer wait times for food; no matter the time of day. But I would like to contribute that to the fact that the food is fresh. I noticed that on the menu and the burger say that they are cooked medium but unfortunately, my burger was cooked. Well done the meat just did not have a lot of flavor. This review is for 12/7/2023. I passed this place coming from another appointment and said I'd try it out. I ordered 1/3 burger with cheddar cheese and bacon, an Oreos shake, and chili cheese fries. I'll start by saying the burger was juicy and pretty flavorful. The milkshake was indeed tasty and creamy and hit the spot after the meal. This place gets a 4 out of 5 for me only because the chili cheese fries weren't what I expected. Do not get me wrong, for the small portion, they gave me a ton to eat and they were indeed good. The only disappointment was that they used shredded cheeses and melted it on top of the chili and fries vs having a nice cheese sauce to complement the chili. Chips is just not what it used to be as far as the quality of food. I used to LOVE their chicken salads. It took me years to even try their burgers because the salads where always so tasty. Here lately not so much. The fries were slightly undercooked and my son said the veggie burger was 'ok'. I will say the service was great! The manager on duty, MOSES.....hmmmm let's just say I might be going back just to see him. He was so nice and accommodating, not to mention tall, dark AND handsome with a beautiful smile. I was happy until I got my food. My order taker was friendly and very nice. I ordered the cheesesteak spud. The person who brought it to me wasn't friendly. He looked as if he didn't want to be here or he wanted to beat me up. I'm not sure as he literally brought my food to me, looked into my eyes, didn't say a word and walked away. My spud is swimming in a load of oil and what I thought was thinly shaved ribeye turned out to be burnt thick cut pieces of meat. I will come back but I won't order this spud. Only reason to give this a 1 star is because the service was fast and food came out fast. We sat in the bar area, and got our drinks. I ordered a mimosa which was a normal mimosa. I then ordered fried mushrooms which were BARELY battered and SUPER slimy. For my entree, I got the bacon cheeseburger. I asked to add shoestring onions but for some reason was given a half order of them which makes no sense because who orders that as a side. Everything was bland and not good. My friend ordered the Philly cheesesteak and asked for meat and cheese only. The food comes out and it has onions throughout. I'm guessing our server/bartender was not listening. Lastly, we ordered the loaded cheese fries and they were basically stuck together and not fresh. The service was great. I've lived in Oakcliff for years and didn't even know this place existed. I ate in a little restaurant area but I believe there's a bar around the corner not a big drinker so I didn't check it out. The guy that took our order was lovely. He suggested we not get the full order of fries because it's a lot of french fries. I thought he was just talking smack. He was right. Oh my God they could've been a meal themselves.
