One thing about me is I'm a sucker when it comes to perusing and I also love cooking. Window shopping is often a myth I tell myself to justify going into all these shops. Win tells you what you need most of the time if you're not coming in without a particular reason--it's like Target--I find myself coming in for one thing and walking out with a bunch of other gadgets and gizmos. Most if not all wares here are reasonably and affordably priced. It's great that they don't limit their customers to wholesales or restaurant supply, because a cooking novice like me can buy specialized kitchen tools at a fraction of the cost the same day I need it. I've gotten a myriad of things here from tempura spoons, wine glasses, frying splatter screens, all all the random stuff you can think of. I would say that this supply store has increased my quality of life in the most subtle ways! I will continue to find excuses to come visit to see if anything is new. The staff here are helpful. Most of them don't have the most outwardly friendly vibe but they will help you (kind of like when you ask your sibling to do something for you and while they'll give you some resistance, they'll still do it out of care). Regardless, solid place. Definitely stop by if you don't care about the more high-end, fancy kitchenware at those more high-tier homeware stores...I'm looking at you Crate and Barrel. Solid little gem hidden in plain sight. I've been walking past this place for what-- like 20 years? I always assumed it was only for businesses, but it is in fact open to the public. I was looking for an affordable lemon zester. Which is surprisingly overpriced like everywhere Anyway, it's pretty cool. If you want to buy local it's a good place to go. There a lot of odd kitchen gadgets you may find yourself picking up. And the best kept secret -- THIS IS WHERE OTTO'S SHRUNKEN HEAD GETS IT'S CUPS. This place was packed on a Saturday night. Everybody was raving to get their kitchen supplies before closing. I like this place because it's cheaper than anywhere else in the city but the workers are not particularly helpful or friendly. We bought a saucer, some spoons and affordable pizza stone. I was looking for a bamboo steamer for dumplings and roamed into this store. There were bamboo as well as steel steamers. I bought bamboo one. As name suggests this store is mostly restaurant supplis. Re: The not so secret way to get durable equipment for the home cook Great spot if you just want no name equipment, utensils, supplies, and any other kitchen related itch you need to scratch. They are open to retail so walk on into and up to the 2nd floor to browse around. Folks there friendly enough but dont expect a hard sell and story like you might get at a retail like williams sonoma. Ever since broadway panhandler shut down many years ago this has filled that void. I just cant stomach the crazy prices for some of the stuff at places like sur la table. My last visit: I walked in looking for some buffet serve ware and walked out with much more. "Yes, lobster cracker? I think i will. Oh, flat bottle opener? Add to the basket. Who doesn't need a pack of paper umbrellas for my cocktails." You get the idea. Tip: Remember to bring your own sturdy bags if you intend on buying some heavy stuff. Been searching for weeks for a grapefruit knife and spoon some time now, checking every 99 cent store in Bensonhurst as well as a few other spots I all but resigned myself to just getting it on Ebay. Well while waiting to meet someone at the Bway Lafayette train stop I saw this place and took a chance. The store is quite large,you go up a flight of stairs and see rows and rows of kitchen supplies. I was able to find the spoon quickly but not the knife. I asked a lady stocking shelves for it and she was also confused why it wasnt right there with the spoon. Another young lady swooped in and quickly went off and came back with the knife! Eureka! Huge selection of items that are laid out by section with prices clearly labeled. No, I am not a restaurant owner but lately we have been making a pot of soup each month to give to the migrant workers standing at the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway in Astoria. It occurred to me that it would be a lot easier if I had bigger soup stock pots. Yes, I can be a genius like that sometimes. :) I walked into this store while in the area and I was pleasantly surprised at how organized the store is. The soup stock pot section was on the second floor and when I walked upstairs someone immediately came over to offer help in finding what I needed. They have an extensive selection of items for a restaurant or even just for household needs, although when I asked for a turbo broiler*, they did not have it. Although, I decided not to purchase the soup stock pot because I had other places to go to and having the stock pots were not the right accessory; I will be back soon to buy what I need at this place. * A turbo broiler is a great way to cook pork belly, it comes out with crispy skin and tender meat. ~_- read more

Check Beyond that, the only things you can really ask for from a restaurant supply store is expert knowledge for recommendations. Meant to go to Chef Restaurant Supply and unconsciously walked here since I've passed it many times before...oops. You can find some inexpensive kitchen tools here, and it definitely is geared for restaurants. But I wasn't all that excited after walking through and was hoping to find something that I haven't seen before. Found a tea cup strainer that didn't have a price and they quoted a price that was too high compared to other items in the store. Guessing it really wasn't an item they sell individually and just came up with a price to charge. Many of the employees don't speak English well and no one asked if I needed help. I was a regular shopper at Win for 4 years and they treated me pretty good. Before my horrifying experience I would have been even more royal to them, I recently rebuilt my restaurant beer fridge. While working with contractor for other details the contractor ask me to order a professional refrigerator door, and I ordered from Win. First of all, this is a very time sensitive job, because I want to keep this transition period to the minimum The door came in very late and for a while they can't find the door in there ware house. After the door was delivered the size is not right. It's partially my fault, because I trust Mr. Kao's professionalism and when he wrote in the order form"a door". I thought it's the right size. I went back to complain, and I have to make a decision right away because it got to be done weeks ago. At the end I have to pay another 2/3 of the price to get a replacement door. (so I pay 1 2/3 of the price for 1 door). The story after that is even more horrifying. When they delivered the second door, it was an old, definitely used, and cut to size,and rusted door, with no key, no instructions. How in the world any registered company can do this? The delivery man said, you have to sign otherwise I took it back. The size is still not right. And I don't even know is my contractor's problem or Win's. At the last minutes we decide to take it because we have no days to waste. We are expecting health inspection any day now. My contractor have to resize the door frame, Do whatever it takes to fit it in. At this point, I feel no sense to argue with them. I ask my chef to call them for key and other materials to seal the fridge and for some reason that Mr. Kao was not available for many more days. Only thru a lot of calling we finally get what we need. I felt betrayed by my old friends, Or I never even know them. If you want to buy a fork or spoon, you can go there, but if you want to buy something more substantial, I recommend you to go any place else. read more

Would not exchange a faulty item. I was so disappointed, I thought this store was fantastic and told many friends about it. I bought 20 quart, and 32 quart stainless steel stock pots. The 32 was fine, the 20 had imperfections in the stainless steel creating black spots on the inside of the base only discoverable after heating, i.e. using the pot. After much negotiation, and some very bad customer service (basically accused me of not telling the truth when I explained that all I had used it for was boiling a chicken), they agreed only to send it back to the manufacturer, in China, to see what they say.
