The pancakes and mochi donut are must-gets, but my sleeper pick would be the simple yet refreshing snow pea shoots. Having just returned from Taiwan myself, I thought the soymilk tasted fresh and authentic, but the fan tuan was so-so (too dense and missing the pickles). I'd also pass on the chocolate bun, although if you like pain au chocolat, it tastes similar. I've been super excited to try this place because I love Asian fusion places and have been eyeing the BEC scallion pancake. Let me first start off with the fact that I did go on a Saturday morning so the lines were super long. Even after my fiancé and I got on line, we watched people pile up behind us. The service however was still great and they tried their best to get to everyone as quickly as they could. After you order, they give you a table number that you take with you and place at any empty seating area. After that, they will look for your table number and drop your order off to you. Now, for the food. We got the wintermelon milk tea to start off with which was just okay. We didn't live it or hate it. After, we got the iced soy milk which came with a crispy dough stick. I really enjoyed the soy milk because it was very lightly sweetened but the fried dough stick was overly tough and it was only palatable because we dipped it into the soy milk. After, we tried the Pork Fan Tuan. I love dried pork floss and sticky rice so I was excited for this one and it did not disappoint. I think the only thing I wished was that the dough stick again was a little softer because it was quite tough. Then, we tried the Crème Brulee French Toast which was okay. I wish they did something to the other side of the toast as well because I think only bruleeing one side and not having a moist center made the dish seem a little one note. How good is the scallion pancake bacon egg and cheese? Well, I got in a fight with my wife, and after I gave her half of it, we suddenly couldn't remember what we were fighting about. To be sure, it's a bit of an oily gutbomb, but I mean that in the absolute best way. I adore a slightly oily gutbomb. And this one is an utter delight...and that's before you even factor in the sauce. The sauce is called Ginger Deluxe, and I'm not sure how to properly describe it. It seems that the internet is also a big fan of this creamy, chunky, flavor bomb. Enough that there are recipes floating around there that seem to involve ginger (obviously), scallions, garlic, mayonnaise, ketchup, fermented bean curd, and mustard. I'm going to be making this sauce going forward. Anyway, this scallion pancake bacon egg and cheese could end conflicts around the world, provided that you serve it with the ginger deluxe sauce. However when I visited the first time, nothing on the menu really sounded appealing to me. Since I was in the area again, I finally decided to try some pastries. The laminated bolo bao sounds perfect. The idea is there: croissant dough with the classic bolo bao sugar crust. But the execution lacks greatly. The shape of the bao makes it nearly impossible to enjoy the crust without it just falling right off. There isn't much crust to begin with either and at $6 a piece, it feels very underwhelming. The fermented red rice donut tasted like a standard donut with icing. Not sure where the fermented red rice comes in, aside from the icing being red. Also, I tend to prefer lighter donuts and this donut was quite dense. I think a mochi texture could have worked better. With all the buzz on social media surrounding Win Son Bakery, I knew I would have to make the trek out to try it one day. I'll admit, I was skeptical trying their sandwiches that used scallion pancakes as the exterior instead of bread, mainly because I know scallion pancakes to be greasy, drunk eats. I'll say I was partially correct - these sandwiches are great drunk foods. I can only imagine how amazing these would taste while drunk, and it honestly sounds like a dream. A crispy flaky scallion pancakes replacing the usual dense, bland bread for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich? Sign me up! In order to get the full experience we tried a multitude of items: Scallion Pancake BEC (the classic), Scallion Pancake Xiā (shrimp, egg and cheese), turnip cake, and a cold glass of soy milk. The BEC was great, don't get me wrong, but the greasiness of the scallion pancake masked the flavor of the rest of the sandwich, leaving us disappointed. The shrimp one was much better, the flavor of the shrimp pairing so well with the scallion pancake and cheese surprisingly. The turnip cake was the favorite amongst our group, not tasting like any turnip cake we have ever had as the exterior of this was completely fried and crispy. This one was a nice surprise, but all in all after eating all these items you sort of feel like a giant grease ball when you're consuming that much oil. The star of the show was an item not found on the menu -- but it was the chili oil served with our meal. We didn't have high expectations for this, and quite frankly the idea of dipping an already greasy food into chili oil wasn't the first thing on our minds, but we were so happy we tried it. Full of flavor, it added a depth to our food we didn't know we were missing. We contemplated returning to ask if we could purchase this chili oil on its own; this alone ranked at a 5/5 for us. The soy milk wasn't anything special, but it was refreshing after our heavy meal. We were gifted a fried cruller with our meal as well, and I will say that was surprisingly fluffy and light. Was it our mistake for ordering every deep fried item on the menu? Probably, since I saw others around us chowing down on items that weren't soaked in oil. Everything was extremely good though and it was such a great concept, although extremely difficult to imagine eating these sandwiches on the go (we required forks, knives, and a table to properly enjoy these.) which kind of defeats the purpose of a sandwich. I've had this place on my list for sooo long so I knew I had to go during my visit to NYC. We came on a Fri during lunch and it was busy. You order inside at the counter and they give you a number to bring your food out to you. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We got the fan tuan with pork, the scallion pancake, the turnip cake and the sweet soybean drink. The fan tuan was definitely the best. Good flavor contrast with the salty pork floss and the rice. They had an extra crunchy you tiao inside that I liked as well. It is pretty small but I enjoyed it was a lighter lunch. The only miss for me was the turnip cake. It's deep fried and they give you two tinyyyy pieces. I prefer the style that you get at dim sum that is steamed and fluffier. read more

This place is worth the hype, one of our favorite meals during our trip! Yes, there's a line to order and an even longer wait for your food, but they make it work - the line is well organized, there's a window to grab your items, and fairly ample outdoor seating. The woman who took our order was super cute and helpful with my indecisiveness. I ended up with the red rice donut in addition to my xiao giao giao and egg & cheese scallion pancake, and I couldn't have been more pleased with my choices. read more

Go early as in before 11 on the weekends! The lines get longer as the lunch hour approaches, and for good reason. I love these fun plays on Taiwanese snacks! I particularly loved the fan Tuan sticky rice roll filled with crispy pastry, a fried egg, and pork "floss", and my black sesame latte with oat milk. The mochi donut was fun and quite chewy, the peanut cookie was crunchy and caramelly, and the snow pea edamame spinach and tofu skin salad was fresh but a bit tame. read more

Dined here two days in a row, menu can be pricey but worth it on occasion. The pastries are limited and ever changing despite being a bakery. More meal options than anything. Win and son bakery is still a solid choice. Ordered plain egg scallion pancake, shrimp turnip cake, mochi donut, and red bean cake. Everything I had was delicious, including the shrimp cake. Their scallion pancakes are definitely worth a try and it's a full portion enough for two people. Don't forget to ask for their signature soy sauce. The mochi donut was decent but enjoyed the red bean cake more. The winter melon tea was delicious. Patio and inside seating available with two water closets located next to cashier. I will definitely dine here more often as well as their main restaurant across the street. read more

Came around Friday 11am. Upon entering, I expected a small bakery, but it was quite huge with lots of seating. Almost all the seats were full, but we managed to grab an empty table. There was no line when we entered and we placed our order and received a plastic table order number to put on our table so that they can bring it to our table. They had utensils and condiments on the side, as well as glass cups and a water dispenser! They don't have waiters to serve you, but they do bring the food to your table on a tray. And you'll have to clean up after yourself when you leave. The pastrami beef tongue scallion pancake was tasty, but wished it had more scallions in the scallion pancake. The fan tuan was good too, but small for $7. The biggest disappointment was the custard toast though. Not really that special for $6, it was just toast with bruleed sugar on top and maybe some condensed milk(?) making it moist, but only the top was moist and the crust was hard. I do think they have a lot of special, unique items not found anywhere else. I am glad to have tried it. I like the concept and I like the space that they have for their bakery. This Taiwanese spot in a Brooklyn staple, located at the opposite street corner of its sister restaurant. It serves a lot of fusion dishes with a Western style, in addition to running bar-top seating that offers drinks and coffee beverages. Win Son is most famous for its scallion pancake, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. It's on the slightly oilier side, so I recommend some form of drink alongside it when tasting. The crunch is great if you get the BEC version too. However, I personally also have to advocate for their chicken! Definitely get both the Fried Chicken Milk Bun and sample the Big Chicken Box. The five-spice cayenne is a great kick, and their bread is incredibly soft and flavorful. The seating will be few and far if you visit on weekends like I have in the past, so consider ordering ahead or potentially waiting in line. It's well worth the wait, the staff are all kind and courteous, and the food makes for a great bite or meal. read more

Was in the city visiting friends and they said we had to try this place. We got there Saturday a little after 1pm and there was a huge line out the door. I think we waited over an hour to order then 30 mins to get our food. The inside was so packed and people (including us) were looking around for any free seats or tables. Luckily we were able to sit at the bar and watch one of the random movies that was on to kill some time. I got the bacon egg and cheese in the scallion pancake and a date cake. It was filling but it was really lacking flavor. The hot sauce really saved it for me. The date cake was my favorite. My friend and I split the mochi donut and it was good. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't wait over an hour for this again. read more
