I had no idea a place like this existed in LES, let alone New York but it's now on my top ten places to visit for food and even coffee. Visiting Davelle, my friend and I were craving different dishes so we got a bit of everything. We ordered the uni and mentai spaghetti and split both. My personal favorite pasta dish I've had in a long time is the mentai spaghetti (spicy cod roe, shiso leaf, and noodles) and I still think about it from time to time. Additionally we ordered a milk toast, which this place is famous for. We got the berry & cream cheese toast and it was so delicious. I can't wait to go back and try the other milk toasts they offer. Lastly I tried hojicha for the first time at this place and I loved it because they add a bit of vanilla sweetener to it so it's toasted really well and balanced with the right sugar amount. We had such a good first experience that we went back a second time a few days later to try their cocktails (ordered the Milky Ruby which is a sake, calpico, and grapefruit). Davelle has become one of my favorite Japanese comfort spots, especially on a rainy day, and as a frequent customer, these are the 3 items that keep me coming back for more. I always start with their Iced Yuzu Matcha Lemonade that's slightly sweet, tart, and incredibly refreshing. The perfect pick-me-up for a gloomy day. For my meal, If I don't get the Karaage Bento, I always get the Chicken Katsu Curry, served with rice and some sort of pickled item that I would greatly appreciate if someone told me the name of (they're soooo good)! The crispy katsu, rich curry, and bright, tangy pickled item come together in the most comforting way and I have yet to find another Katsu Curry that can top this. I always end my meal with the Berries & Cream Toast. Between the fluffy milk bread, fresh jam, and lightly sweet cream cheese, it feels like the perfect little reward at the end of the meal, and I'm always impressed by the care and attention to detail the staff puts into it every single time. Went around 10:30PM on a Saturday for breakfast. They didn't have as many options as it was a weekend and breakfast. If I remember correctly there were only a couple toast options and one curry options. I think they had all the drink options. It wasn't busy at all, there was only one other table occupied when we arrived and we were seate immediately. I haven't been here since pre-covid but, the black sesame latte is still as good as it was back then. The curry was pretty good too. The purple rice was such a pleasant surprise. I absolutely love purple rice (I was expecting white rice). The toast wasn't too bad but wasn't amazing, I do wish there was more mentaiko on the toast. I do recommend the black sesame latte from here if you aren't looking for food. I would say to try this place once and see how it suits your palate. read more

very cute little restaurant. we ordered the napoleon and mentai pasta. both were very good. the mentai was very creamy but still had that umami taste of seafood. napoleon was slightly spicy so it added a perfect kick to the tomato sauce. overall nice dishes, would want to come back to try the toast and service was alright. read more

After having bookmarked this place for their beautiful asian-flavored toasts for so long, I finally got the chance to check it out last summer. We got the black sesame and the red bean toast, as well as the curry and a red bean latte. I think my favorite thing was the red bean latte because you don't really see people using red bean that much though I do have to say it was on the sweeter side and I personally would have liked it a touch less. However, lots of points for creativity. The toasts were solid. Definitely beautiful for the 'gram, and taste just like you might expect them to. It's in a way, homey, simple and when you eat here you feel like you're at you're good friend's place having brunch where they make you pretty toasts. It's a small space and service was attentive. I think next time i would try the berry toast and the other cool items on the menu, like the fries. Regardless the food was good! We came on a Saturday morning and they estimated 45 minute wait but we only waited 15 minutes. There's a Little Davelle next door that you can order drinks or food to go. Super cute shop with friendly staff, but I found the food a bit hit or miss. The katsu curry rice plate was perfect -- sticky rice with a punchy, super flavorful curry, and a satisfyingly crunchy katsu that was very well cooked. This totally hit the spot! The sesame toast at $13 felt a bit overhyped. Although gorgeous, the ratio of sesame isn't great so you're mostly paying for a thick piece of semi-stale toast and plain cream cheese. If the bread quality was better and they were a bit more generous with the sesame paste, it would've been a much more tasty treat. The red bean / azuki latte also started off strong, but quickly got overly sweet and powdery / gritty. I ended up not being able to finish this one. Such an adorable Japanese Cafe. They serve quite possibly the prettiest toast in NY. It's amazing how precisely the staff decorates each toast with only the back of a spoon. We tried their black sesame toast which was visually stunning and delicious! The black sesame flavor was potent & the bread was perfectly toasted. Most beautiful toast ever eaten! I saw this place on Instagram and knew I immediately wanted to try. We went early on the weekend in the morning and were able to quickly get a seat. Towards the end of our time there it did start to get a line to wait for seating. We sat at the bar and were able to see the toast being made. The toast tasted great and my favorite was the sesame flavored toast. Vibe was a cozy cafe feel with most seating at the bar while there are a couple of tables in the front too. I have been keen to try out Davelle for ages now, but haven't come by since the idea of queueing for their busy weekend brunches does not interest me as much. So, I was excited to take the chance of not working during this holiday season to come by for a weekday lunch. I came by myself around 1pm, and was able to get seated at the bar immediately. I think there was always at least 1 seat available while I was there, but some parties of 2 did have to wait a bit ( not too long, maybe 20 min max?). I have to point out first that the interior design is so lovely, the neutral colour palette across the kissaten-style fixtures was just a very calm environment to eat in, and I really enjoyed being able to sit at the bar and watch, amongst other things, the coffee dripping down or the toasts being prepared. Anyway, I ordered the mentai spaghetti, a miso soup, and a iced matcha latte. The miso soup came first, and the presentation was a bit strange, since it was in two paper cups (like doubled up). It was fine-ish? A little bit too salty, and the miso sediment was too thick at the end to finish, but it served as a nice contrast to the pasta. The spaghetti was fantastic. I do generally perfer my pasta to be chewier/al dente, but Japanese pasta tends to be softer, which is fine. The sauce was really delicious - the creaminess was not too heavy, and the mentaiko mixed in was really the perfect amount - not too salty / savoury to overpower the rest of the dish. The shiso leaf was an interesting touch, I did have a hard time mixing it thoroughly in the pasta since it was largely stuck to the mentaiko on top, so I ended up getting a big dose of shiso in one bite lol. The matcha latte was also very good. The matcha flavour was very rich, and you can tell from that depth of flavour that they use very good quality matcha powder for their drinks. I heard some of their other drinks like the black sesame latte are even better, so I'll definitely have to give that a try next time. Price point was quite reasonable, and if it wasn't for the long typical weekend wait times I'd want to come back much more often haha. The space is much smaller than I thought it would be so be prepared to wait and i would not recommend big parties, although it's very cozy for a date :) We tried 2 different types of toast - the cheese curry and the black sesame with cream cheese. The cheese curry was only ok but i wouldn't get it again but the black sesame was interesting and delicious. We also got the uni spaghetti which I was eying for a while and it was very creamy and the noodles were chewy which i like so i would recommend it :) I also got their azuki latte and it's very sweet and very comforting but i just wish it was a bit hotter but it was ready to drink when they brought it to the table. Davelle is a lowkey Japanese style cafe (kissaten-esque) on an unassuming street. A homey interior with lowkey vibes. Seating is very limited, reminiscent to the cafes in Japan. Only 3 tables for 2 people and bar seating. I came on a weekday morning so it was not crowded but I had the last table. We had intended to order 2 toasts and a spaghetti share but the server may have misunderstood me and put in order for 2 pastas as opposed to 1 so we ended up with more food than expected for brunch. My fault for not paying attention when she confirmed our order. Not a problem as we were debating between two pasta choices anyways. The portions are Japan sized which was perfect for our order oversight. We had the uni and the mentai pasta. First the texture. The noodles were a mix between spaghetti and Korean ramyun, very interesting and delicious! As for the flavors, you would think the mentai would have a stronger flavor but it was actually more mild than the uni. The uni spaghetti doesn't look like much but it packed a whole lot of flavor! Highly recommend the uni for those who like seafood flavored pasta. We also ordered a flat white and the azuki latte which was brought over from their standalone cafe next door. The flat white was one of the better coffees I had so far in NYC, bold and rich flavor. The red bean latte was not what I expected given it is red bean paste and steamed milk, the flavor reminded me of candy. It wasn't until after I got to the bottom that I realized the drink wasn't mixed. Get the coffee, skip the red bean unless you don't drink caffeine. Also try out their standalone cafe for drink orders, didn't look like there were tables there though, just bench. I cannot speak for the toast, but the crust I tried was on the hard side. Price point is standard for trendy NYC spots, so a little pricier than what you would expect for what you get. Main cons were the limited seating and as an aside the food made us very thirsty afterwards. However the flavor and cozy atmosphere made up for it. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. We were very lucky and got seated at the bar right away when we got there. We ordered the katsu curry, uni spaghetti, and berry and cream cheese toast to share. The curry of the katsu curry was very flavorful and the chicken was crispy and juicy. The texture of the spaghetti of the uni spaghetti somehow tasted kinda like rice noodle but it still tasted really good. The sauce was umami and the uni tasted pretty fresh. I also like how they put a wedge of lemon on the side to add some brightness to the dish. I thought the toast would only be okay and was only for instagram picture but I was wrong! It actually tasted really good! Both the jam and cream cheese tasted homemade and the cream cheese was so light and creamy. $12 for a slice of toast was definitely a lot but it was worth it! I also got a hojicha latte to go at the end. The hojicha flavor was rich and it was not too sweet. The ambience was quite cozy, but there were few tables so I imagine it can get quite loud and crowded during lunchtime. The mentai toast was disappointingky mundane--the milk bread was fluffy, but rather thin and evaporated in a few bites. The flavor was there, but not complex nor creative in any way. Definitely not worth the $11 I paid for it. The sesame kinako latte ($6.5) was heartwarming and struck a delicate balance between sweet and sesame; however, it wasn't extraordinary and got quite grainy towards the bottom.
