While in town for a festival, my wife and I made a grocery run to Winco to stock up on a few necessities. This shopping trip might alone be what it takes for me to change loyalty to my regular store and switch over back at home. I've typically shopped elsewhere because other stores allow me to use a credit card-which I like because I'm collecting points. However, the benefit of the credit card points is not larger than the reduced prices of shopping at Winco compared to the other store. This location was clean and well laid out. Even though it was my first time shopping here, I was able to navigate it pretty easily. The self checkout was also nice-and didn't bark at me when I put my own shopping bags on like other places do. Midnight WinCo runs are one of my favorite things to do - the staff is restocking with big pallets of stock in the middle of the isles and there's a certain calm but also fun energy late night at WinCo. I just really love grocery shopping late at night, it seems like more of a fun thing to do and less of a chore. The bulk section is a WinCo gem, and can be especially sustainable if you bring your own bags. I love getting everything from spices, pasta, rice and everything I need to make my own trial mix! The produce section here is one of my favorites, there's a ton of selection and it's WinCo so you know you're getting the best price. Before I started shopping at WinCo I thought it was normal to spend $100+ everyone you go to the grocery store. My brother described it as if you combined a Costco and typical grocery store. I think that's a perfect way to describe it because it really is right in the middle! The low prices and warehouse feel of Costco make it different from other typical grocery stores. The quantity and size of items are more like typical grocery stores (not like Costco) Be sure to stop by the nuts, candy, and rice aisles to see all the options. I got some espresso beans, and they were delicious! Staff was very helpful and there were lots of staff available to help. read more

I'm 19 years old and she automatically assumed I was going to steal and made comments such as "don't worry I know what's happening" and "we are gonna be best friends" after consistently checking up on what I was doing opening my backs and moving them around for no reason when all I was doing was trying to buy dinner. So while my husband is trying to use one of the self check out machines it's not working so he gets approached by a attendant by the name of Peggy who confronts him when he moves to another self checkout machine telling him he's not supposed to jump machines as if he's doing something sinister! We are appalled and we will be calling in the morning to report this Peggy lady for how she approached him. One thing you don't do is insult a customer for doing the right thing!! She had egg on her face when she realized the machine he was using initially was actually broken.!!! Shame on you Peggy!!! Corporate will hear about this!!!!! I know there's an employee shortage that doesn't mean you just hire anyone for the sake of filling a spot!! It should always be quality or quantity!!! This Winco isn't much different than the others. It has good prices, albeit slightly higher here because it is a downtown location. The parking is good. A Whole Foods and a Walgreen's are close by. They have self checkouts, but they're not too good for multiple items as you can't remove a bag until the end of the transaction as it weighs the entire transaction. read more

Oh WinCo, how you help me preserve my paycheck and cut down the cost of my grocery bill! The things I love about WinCo: -Cheaper, and I mean way cheaper, than most grocery stores. -Multiple self-checkout lines, so you can get in and out really fast! -Open 24 hours. SO thankful for this because most places that are open into the wee hours of the night are fast food places. Yay for being able to get groceries for a full-on meal in the middle of the night! -Bulk food section. My favorite item offered in this area of the store is their freshly ground almond butter. It's made from just almonds, and it is WAY cheaper here than it is at other grocery stores. Things I don't love: -WinCo is housed in a warehouse-type space, so it's not overwhelmingly exciting when it comes to mood. (Not complaining, just pointing out that if you want that charming market-y feel, you're not really going to find that here.) -Beware: Shopping here during busy hours--specifically, right after the workday is over, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons--is the worst. Call me crazy, but I think the same laws that apply to the road should apply to shopping carts. (Right?!) When I come here on Sunday afternoons, all I want to say to people is, "Please, keep your cart on the right side of the aisle." I've found that this issue can be easily avoided: just stop in during their less busy times. read more

Cashier had plenty of time to chat with customer in front of me about his kids, yet then pressured me to bag quicker "to keep things moving" the second it was my turn. She then checked guy out after me before he even bagged, while making me wait to pay until he was done (after refusing to let me do the same). This process became prolonged as I waited. Not sure why she disliked me, but Winco got to keep my fully bagged cart. I don't need to be rushed and mistreated by a grocery store, life is stress-full enough. I won't be back either. read more

It's about 4am, and i forgot my covid mask. 3 people stocking had their masks hanging off their necks. I get a bag of chips, and a bag of bulk candy. I get to the checkstand and the cashier, whom is NOT wearing a mask (she had on some kind of rigged up quarter of a face shield that she was wearing upside down. Points her finger at me and tells me that i "Better have a facemask or I'll refuse service." I've been walking around the store holding a paper towel to my face, and I also had my shirt up over half of my face. While she was waving her finger at me, embarrassing me, she was smiling about it. Cheap prices, and cheap service during the graveyard. Manager did nothing to resolve this issue. I'm sorry that I forgot my mask!!! You didn't have to talk to me like that. Okay so I went to this winco November 11th 2018 at around 11:00- 11:30pm and got some snacks and stuff and then I noticed there was a candy thing! So I got a few bags of candy not really knowing how to do it. So I went to check out and the lady at the register was beyond rude and was snappy at me because I didn't remember the code on the candy I got. And then she was making snarky comments the whole time we waited for one of the other employees to go check. I will never go there again and be treated like trash. I don't remember her name but if I did I would post it on here, she was blonde and relatively younger. Customer service is essential when working with people and she treated me like I was a burden. My boyfriend and I stopped by Winco for some snacks since we were driving from Boise to Las Vegas. I was really impressed with the selection. I am from LA and we have Costco here so I definitely thought the two were one in the same. WRONG! First of all, you need a membership to Costco and Winco does not charge for that. The company is actually employee owned so that is why prices were reasonable and credit cards were not accepted. Families, big and small, can definitely do well shopping here since they sell things in bulk and individually. I like that you have to do your own bagging because you have a choice to take their bags or bring your own. read more

I love Winco and I don't know what I'll do without it if I move away from this area. Prices are amazing and I especially appreciate the bulk baking ingredients area - it's so nice to buy just a cup of flour, or just enough barley for one recipe. I also really like the guy who works in the produce department. If he's stocking the shelves as I'm being particularly selective about peppers or zucchini, he'll help me pick out the best ones. The only time to not shop there is Sunday night at around 9. I think this is when they restock the shelves and some of the popular items are frequently sold out. On another note, S&W tomatoes are probably the best I've had and they're cheapest here. If you haven't tried them out of concern that they may not be up to par because they're inexpensive, please give it a shot. This is the only brand where I'll eat a tomato right out of the can because it tastes fresh. As others have noted, Winco doesn't accept credit cards. I think I am alright with this minor inconvenience since my weekly grocery bill is about $30 here instead of $50 at Albertsons. read more

WinCo has revolutionized my perception of what shopping for food can be. Truth be told, I have been devoted to shopping at small health food stores and farmers markets for some time - so I am refreshed to know that I can find much of the food I like to eat at a larger than life operation like WinCo. And the price point makes the experience far more of a delight. Finding a week's worth of groceries (fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, seafood, and a few boxes of crackers) for $40 some dollars is like hitting the jackpot. Pallets of food in a warehouse setting and shoppers filling enormous metal shopping carts to the brim, with what looks like a month or more supply of food, give a no-nonsense air to this place. Shopping here necessitates focus and keeping the kid on a short leash. A shopping list helps. Treasures to be found: $0.48 for fresh live oysters in IDAHO! heaven sent! $4.00/lb for crystallized ginger = YES! $0.57/lb for basmati rice! $1.98/lb for brussel sprouts! and perhaps the BEST of all: $2.98/lb for fresh wild salmon! Prices are amazing, which is why WinCo is the winning company. It will always be busy, especially on weekends or BSU games, but well worth the low grocery bill. The bulk foods is one of the best deals in the store. Produce isn't bad, you get what you pay for. They don't have hand baskets, but why would you use one anyway? I guess i'm a little more princessy than most. I found this cavernous store seemed a little overwhelming, dusty if not dirty and the fact that they did not take credit cards crazy! (i do have a membership to costco and never feel overwhelmed there, so it's not that) Who doesn't take credit cards? I had been recommended by a co-worker to go here since the prices were better. I found the prices on what I needed nearly equivalent to Albertsons. The staff was very friendly and were helpful when i indicated that had never been here and didn't realize it was cash only/debit card. All in all it works for some people, just not for me. read more

We're in the middle of a 9 day road trip, and we needed to stop in to stock up on some of our supplies. The prices & selection seemed pretty good, though I'm still boggling at the fact that they're "cake for two" is really "cake for 4-6". Maybe they mean two people can eat it over the course of two days? The people on the floor were friendly, and were helpful for us to find items in their gigantic store. The cashiers are friendly as well. And the store is open 24 hours! The main drawback to this store is that it's cash or debit card only. No credit cards. read more

This store gets probably 70% of my grocery dollar. Most of the time the produce is fantastic and fresh due to the high volume that they sell, and there is as good a variety there as any store in town. There is also an organic section with 20 or so different items. Produce is easily half of my grocery budget, and I get 95% of it at Winco. The meat is good if you aren't looking for perfect looking high end cuts, for those go to a butcher, or a more high end store. The deli has some surprisingly high end and healthy choices like kale salads. The frozen vegetable section leaves a LOT to be desired, but I don't buy much in the way of frozen veggies anyway. The prices are fantastic, the bulk food section is a gift straight from heaven, and the store is in constant chaos. (remember me talking about the produce turnover, it's because of the massive amount of people going through the place) read more

People have kept telling me how great of a store Winco is, but I completely disagree. The pricing is only a penny of two better than at other stores, and they play the same games as other discount stores in which they offer smaller packages of their knockoff Winco brand which comparing per ounce price, ends up to be more expensive than name brands at other stores. Are people from Boise this ignorant to fall for this time honored scam? And the quality of some of the produce was atrocious. It did not look fresh off the truck, it looked as if it had been thrown from the truck, and drug the rest of the way to the store. The store is so disorganized. I had to look in 3 different areas to find simple spice packets for the meal I was making. What an aggravating experience. To make things worse, customer service is almost nonexistent. You are better off asking the wall for help than one of the ignorant clowns who work there. And here is an announcement, it is 2018, accept credit cards for payment. Cash and debit card only screams illicit activity is taking place with the handling of payments. I hope that an illegal transaction takes place with my debit card so that this messed up place will be held accountable for identity theft and fraud. I would comment on the shopping experience, except I didn't have one. I'm recovering from a broken leg and ankle, therefore I need to use one of those motorized scooters when I shop. I usually shop at the Meridian or Fairview Winco's, which both have many, many scooters which are all kept at the doors and are always fully charged. Kudos to them. But the Myrtle Street store doesn't keep their scooters by the door. They are in customer service which is nowhere near the front doors. And when you send your scooter experienced almost 12 yr old granddaughter to fetch one for you... they say "No minors". So apparently I'm supposed to walk down to customer service and get it myself. Do they not realize people use scooters because they can't walk (or can't walk long distances)? And yes, I asked an employee at the U-scans. She said she would have someone bring one to me. Five minutes later I was still waiting and no scooter in sight. So we left, and went to the Fairview Winco. I'll never return to the Myrtle store. They get a big fat "F" in the handicap-friendly category. read more
