We've been coming to Campos Market for many years. It's go to for hard to find produce like cactus and papayas. Besides the fruit, there are all sorts of interesting finds, so if you are going for the first time, trust me, take some time to check out all the aisles. Starting from left to right, the first aisle has cookware. Ever seen clay dishes, pots, and cups perhaps from Spanish Novelas on Telemundo or Univision, yeah, those are in stock. Looking for a wood crafted tortilla maker, they have it. Maybe you need a pot. ( Not that kinda pot ) but a pot to cook chicharrones, yeah they have that too plus the paddle to boot. There's all sorts of spices and chilies and hot sauces. I would recommend the El Yucateco Mayan Recipe. Yum! The next aisle over is baking goods, canned goods and of course tortillas. I do miss the Casa Valdez tortillas as they were really good. The next aisle over is Mexican candy and all sorts of Mexican drinks. Sweet! The last aisle is homeware and personal care. There are three freezers where you can find fish, octopus, and sometimes goat. Then there's all the fruits and veggies. The meat counter has everything ranging from Skirt steak to Sausage to chicken and more. There's a refrigerator full of beer and other drinks then there's....... An eatery. You can order food and eat inside or take it to go. On the weekends, it super busy so either get there early to get a table or get there late and take it to go. It's as legit as you are going to find in the Treasure Valley and my only gripe is that it is not really stocked with Mexican sweet breads as it should. Get your Campos Market on. read more

Oh my! I am so thankful for my coworkers telling me about this wonderful place! I already can't wait to visit again. I arrived today for lunch. I wanted an asada burrito.. and let me tell you, I got my asada burrito. It reminded me so much of my favorite little market back home, it just made my heart sing. I am not a fan of beans, so my burrito consisted of meat, rice and a cilantro onion mix. They served the burrito with verde and rojo salsa on the side. I liked them both.. so I alternated the salsas with my bites. One thing I personally added to my burrito was fresh lime juice and pickled jalapeños. It's what I did back home and I have zero regrets. I are the entire thing as well (again, no regrets). The market is great. There are a variety of drinks as well as cervesa. During my visit, I purchased some pastor meat as well as asada to take home and cook. Their butcher has some amazing looking meats. I've also heard wonderful things about their marinated pollo. This had been on my list for a while and I'm happy I stopped for lunch. The asada and the chicken tacos were delicious as was the side of refried beans. Note no chips come with so you should buy them in the market if you want them to accompany your meal. Sauces on the table are straightforward red and green. An aging little market that is AOK for what it is, but doesn't carry what I need to buy and inevitably I compare it to the Mexican markets I shopped at in other venues where I've lived, worked and visited. With Plaza Latina in Eugene likely my favorite of them all as the 'gold standard', the best I can do is a two star rating for my grocery gathering experience here. Which is simply my context perspective and no knock on the market. Based on other reviews for the tacos and tortas, had my husband and I been there for the prepared food and not grocery products we may have had a different experience. Campos clearly serves a local neighborhood community of folks, although if the day of my visit was a usual one for clientele, more than half spoke neither English nor Spanish as their first language which was surprising. My ongoing surprise being a relative newcomer to the Treasure Valley is for what an important role is played by people with Mexican heritage in many of the jobs in the area and the size of the population that speaks Spanish as their first language, there don't seem to be the same kind of Mexican markets and Mexican food venues here as in other places I've called home. I was in search of fresh tortillas. None available here and I found similar brands in plastic bags as I might find at any standard grocery. I also thought I would pick up cookies to feed the nice guys who were painting my house (the Benjamin Moore paint store is right across the street and Campos caught my eye while I waited to have paint mixed) since one of the signs painted in the window said panaderia. So I was also disappointed to find the bread and bakery products in a small case to the left of the entry door seemed not baked there and no sweets or cookies in the mix. There is a meat market in the back of the store and the product looked fresh. A few tables in that same location and food is available to purchase to eat there, although we didn't do that. Our hunt and gather included produce with fresh chiles among them and some other items to make Mexican food dishes. With all respect to the foods who own this and work hard at it, most of the limited produce looked well past prime, boxes were stacked in the aisles and the product on shelves were the same brands one can buy in most standard grocery stores these days. Hence the two star rating. Different strokes for different folks. My search for fresh tortillas and a good Mexican market for me continues. read more

If you haven't stepped inside the Campos Market you probably don't realize there's a small restaurant in the back of the building, where the Crescent Bar operated for years. Great selection of tacos and other dishes. I had an order of flautas, four corn tortillas filled with chicken and deep fried. Served with lettuce, white cheese, avocado slices and topped with crema for $5. It was very good. Look for a large selection of Jarritos Mexican pop in the cold case along with American standards. Compose offers a truly Mexican experience. Their product offering is authentic and expansive. The carneceria is exceptional and a great way to get the Mexican flavor profile you're looking for. The butchers are experienced and helpful. The taco shop in the back is amazing. I am wholeheartedly touched to see lengua and al pastor on the menu. Their hot sauces are excellent and their service is succinct and efficient. Please don't come here if you're going to tell someone to speak 'Murican, you're not wanted or needed. One of the best signs of authentic taqueria style Mexican food is that they speak Spanish. I'll put that to the Pepsi challenge any day of the week. Do know, if you order beer to drink with your meal in the shop, you pay extra. Don't bitch about it. Don't scream like an entitled moron, just know. I came in here for lard and jalapeños and I left with lard and jalapeños. Great little market that was hopping with energy and people. I will be back to try the tacos in the back and to get special ingredients but that is it. I was a little taken back by their produce section where rotting fruit and veggies stood. Okay, I love a good taco and campos nailed it. The atmosphere could use some work but I loved the food. Tasted authentic and the green sauce is so hot but it's to die for. I even hung around and bought stuff. Perfect if you're looking for a quick Mexican meal (cheap by the way, my tacos were $4 total). Or if you want to shop the genuine Mexican groceries and get a tub of that amazing green sauce. Went to the market to grab some carne asada, salsa, and pico de gallo for our dinner tomorrow and figured that I should eat lunch. I have never grabbed lunch here before so I was excited given the meat and fresh ingredients are located in the market. The restaurant is located in the very back of store just past the butcher. You can find about 5-6 tables to sit at after you order your food. The seating area is nothing special but don't let the appearance scare you off as the food will be worth it. I ordered a torta with al pastor. The sandwich is filled with lettuce, tomato, guacamole, mayo, peppers, carrots, and meat. All the ingredients are fresh from the market. The al pastor meat was very flavorful and cooked nicely. All the ingredients worked well. The bread was my least favorite as it seemed a bit dry. I will be eating here again for sure as the menu has many more items for me to enjoy. I would recommend Campos to anybody looking for authentic Mexican food made from fresh ingredients. I went in to buy a molcajete (a rather good sized three-legged mortar and pestle) and ended up eating some tacos and buying some other kitchen items and treats. As I hefted the molcajete onto the counter a young lady asked me if I was going to make salsa, and we ended up having a nice conversation about the possible things you could use it for. The employee manning the register was very helpful. I scoped out the meat department and was amazed at the offerings. Cuts of meat that I was not familiar with, organ meats, chicken breasts, all very neatly displayed in the tightly packed display case. The guy behind the counter didn't seem to mind my asking a few questions. All the employees were constantly busy with different tasks as I went back to the grill and ordered some tacos, two lengua and two cabeza. The kitchen looked to be very clean and organized. While these were being prepared I had a look at the produce section. Tomaillos, nopales, tuna (not a fish!), nothing looked past its prime. Then my tacos were ready. Comedy time... the booths were like desks out of an elementary school, I could barely squeeze myself in. The meat in the tacos was extremely tender and moist, and well seasoned. Wedges of lime and radish slices on the side. On the way out I bought some spices and chili coated dried fruits. Chamoy! The place has been there a long time, and it isn't fancy, but it is clean, organized, and a friendly place to shop for Latino specialties. Check it out! read more

The people from California stubbornly insisting you can't get "authentic" Mexican food have either never been here, or should check their stubborn "California is better" point of view at the door. Order anything on the menu except the burrito, or chicken. Pastor, chorizo, carnitas, cheek (I forget what it is on the menu), menudo on Friday... it is all mind blowing how good it is. The butcher can hook you up with pastor and everything to cook at home too! It's not a pretty place, so some people I have taken here were surprised. Apparently this is the most authentic mexican food in Boise. Granted the choices are slim being boise. Dry carnitas very poorly made. Desperate Boise locals calling very poor quality food the best in city. Boise has burger joints and maybe some pizza places that are good. The rest are desperate attempts to create some sort of culture. Personally i find it insulting especially with the prices being so high. My take on Mexican food in boise after living in san diego my whole life. Del taco is the way to go. Hands down the best boise has to offer. The city is lacking authenticity in culture so much it will cling to the most awful and disappointing establishments. If you never have had legitimate real mexican food then i suppose you dont know whats up. 2 stars is 1 more then i would truly give but it was nice to speak Spanish with the workers before forcing down 2 carnitas tacos. A couple weeks ago, I came here to buy meat so that my husband and I could make tacos for dinner. I stopped by the restaurant in the back to buy rice and beans. I was disappointed to find out that the rice was lukewarm, but the beans were frozen!! :( So much for my "fresh" food. I am still going to shop here because of its authenticity and prices. read more

Cafe at the back. Really good tacos. They have adobo, chorizo, lengua and even intestine which is really good but your breath will be awlful (so not good for date or business lunch haha). Cheaper than even the taco truck but better quality. Also, oxtails and Flankencut shortribs (think Korean bbq cut rather than stewed shortrib cut) here are about a dollar less per pound than other places like Fred Meyers but equally as good. One more thing, there is a guy out front who sells homemade tamales 1.25 each (6 or more for 1.00 each) [ pork, chicken or cheese]. Really good. Great for lunches. read more

There's an awesome tamale dude out front selling fresh/warm homemade tamales for $1 each The grocery store is well stocked, the butcher shop has great meat selection. And in the back is the best tacos/tortas/and burritos you'll find in a 30 mile radius (I hear there's good spots in nampa) $2-3 you'll get a real taco of 6 different meat choices. Campos has the best Carnitas in town. I am certain of this. Not an exaggeration. They are flavorful, tender, and fresh. The chicken tortas are my favorite, the simple flavors and fresh ingredients just do it for me. Everything on the menu is exceptionally well made. It's all tasty from the Enchiladas to the Chicharrones. Even the salsa for the tacos is great. I have NEVER received a bad meal here. Not a single piece of weird meat, or stiff tortilla. Sincerely some of the best Mexican food a Treasure Valley market has to offer. Eating here is a little cramped. It's by no means a place to take your date, but there are tables if you're feeling it. Expect the usual shoppers as there are typical Mexican produce/products. The produce, not so fresh but tunas (cactus apples) can travel a ways. The selection of candy is good. The fresh bread is fantastic! With the exception of the butcher, service is terrible. Absolutely some of the worst. The staff in the back is rude and unattentive. They lack even a morsel of customer service skills. You wait an unreasonable amount of time just to put in your order and then WITHOUT FAIL an ungodly wait to get your order. This infuriating amount of time is why I call in my orders and pick up WHEN I CAN. I say that because if you're lucky they MIGHT answer the phone. Just pay for your produce/candy in the back if you can. Otherwise you'll wait just as long to get someone to ring you up at the front. Despite the wait, and rude staff I can't give this place less than a 4 the food is just that good.
