Winco is rapidly becoming a very MEH shopping experience. The more they "streamline" their workforce and departments, the worse and more boring this experience gets. Bring back the custom deli where you can actually order under two pounds of industrial ham. Bring back the goddamn SEAFOOD COUNTER where you can order individual shoulders of salmon based on what you see in front of you. Pre-packaging and pre-wrapping everything in the store just ends up in a shopping experience even more generic and stupid that SAFEWAY, and that is saying a lot. GET WITH THE PROGRAM, WINCO! I have shopped at Winco/Cub/Waremart weekly my entire life and have found that every location I've been in has helpful, pleasant employees. The only exception to this would be just about every deli employee in the Corvallis store. I say "just about all" because I usually only shop Thursday or Friday nights, so I wouldn't know if there are others that work there. I'm so frustrated with this department on my shopping trip that I will occasionally drive to the Albany Winco for my groceries. The experience I had 3/13/26 at approximately 5:00-5:15pm was what is driving this review. I walked up to the deli counter and saw there was just one other person being helped. The worker was having a very hard time figuring out how to close the man's large container of chicken. I could see the irritation on his face. That employee made eye-contact with me multiple times over the next 5 minutes, still unable to close the container. A female worker walks out from the back of the deli and makes eye contact with me twice, after each she moves onto a task. Another couple walks up. The chicken customer is visibly unhappy and walks away without his food. The employee asks the female worker to help him, and then he goes to the back. The worker moves to help the couple, knowing that I was there first. I impatiently waited till they were finished being helped. As they walked away another person walked towards her and she began helping them. Unfortunately, I was forced to intervene to remind her that I was next. If this had been an isolated incident you wouldn't be reading this review. Everyone has bad days! But this behavior is the norm for these employees. Every single time that I choose to shop the Corvallis Winco deli, I'm either looked at and then ignored, until multiple customer's step up, or they don't look up from their tasks to see if they have any customers. I generally have to say, "excuse me", 2-3 times before being acknowledged. And I do mean every single time. There has not been a Corvallis Winco shopping trip, since 2020, where I have not had to wait or ask for help from the worker, even when I'm the only customer standing at the counter. I don't know what their deli training looks like, but there should definitely be a better emphasis on customer service, because from what I see, there is none. read more

I've been coming to this store for years. I'm over 70 yrs old. WinCo is now asking for my birthdate to buy alcohol. This is private info that can be used in identity theft, and I don't give it out. Oregon law says if I look like I'm over 26, no one is required to card me. Twice now it's been 30-something Karen's who think they're the birthday police, and refuse to sell to me. Each time I have to call the manager, and the manager puts in 01/01/01, and let me make the purchase. If it happens again, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

People working are on par or go above with any requests. Convenient, 24-hour location near several major roads (e.g. Kings, Circle, Walnut) with plenty of parking. Huge, well-stocked store with a lot to offer - I've bought everything from salad mix to printer paper here. This is a great place to do your grocery shopping on a budget. In addition to standard grocery store offerings, this WinCo has a deli counter, seafood counter, bakery, beer cave (no liquor sold here), and a large wine section that features wines from local vineyards. The aisles near the deli section have an ample selection of pre-cooked/prepped lunch options such as fried chicken, sushi, burritos, sandwiches and wraps. Checkout lines can occasionally get long, but move quickly. As is the case with most WinCo locations, you bag your own groceries. Credit cards not accepted here (debit is ok). Tell the checker your desired number of bags and you're good to go! Doing my grocery shopping is pretty much a breeze here. read more

As a grocery store, I actually love WinCo. As a customer who has to interact with WinCo's employees, well, not so much. I've had several negative encounters with disgruntled employees. The best that I can tell is their workers are deeply unhappy despite trying earnestly to interact with each one politely. Just today, my wife and I were shopping, and we made our way into produce. We needed to get a package of strawberries, and a young girl there was unloading strawberries from a large cart onto the shelf. My wife saw that the cart blocked the strawberries, so she asked the young lady, "Can I grab one of the strawberries from your cart?" To which the girl replied, "I'd rather you not." My wife was confused seeing as they are all the same strawberries and the employee is merely lifting them from her cart, moving them a few inches, and putting them on the shelf. My wife then asked if the young lady would hand her a strawberry container from the shelf. The employee didn't say a word, stood up, and moved the cart away from the shelf. Apparently, this is easier to do than just letting us take one from the cart. If that doesn't confuse you (and you've managed to read this far), just wait. It gets stranger. I asked the young woman as politely as I could, "I'm just curious, why don't you want us to take a strawberry from the cart?" To which she replied, "Because it's rude." I asked her, "How is it rude?" She said, "How would you like it if someone came and grabbed something from YOUR cart?" This is unusual for a few reasons, but I told her, "But it's not YOUR cart; it's WinCo's cart." She didn't respond, and we walked away. A few isles down, the young woman appeared to be angrily mocking me to another coworker. She seemed to be pretty distressed over these strawberries, but we couldn't fathom WHY. I could kind of understand had my wife just snatched some strawberries from her cart, but as I said, she asked the young lady if she could take one, and the girl resisted. Sure, it's just one encounter, but we've had many others. Angry cashiers that don't respond when you say hello. One time, a man was cleaning the refrigerator doors in the milk section. Again, my wife had asked if she could quickly open the door after waiting a while to grab one carton of milk. He responded quite impatiently, "Yeah when I am done cleaning this you can." We waited a few minutes for him to finish, got our milk, and left. The store itself is fine. I like WinCo's selection. But their employees either need better training or replaced by people that are not rude to customers. We are polite with everyone, but when people treat you like a nuisance, it's kind of a turn-off. I honestly don't even want to go back. I'm just tired of the people who work at this place. It might be time to try another grocery store. read more

Winco is a great grocery store and probably has the best prices around. I stopped by here on a short stay in Corvallis. This store was huge and much cleaner than my usual Winco. The store has a large selection of items and has a great bulk food bin area. Go here and save on the basics and if you need something special, there are other options, assuming you can't find it here. Not being from Corvallis, it was strange to have to pay for a shopping bag when bagging your groceries. Probably a sign of things to come when plastic bags get banned at home. read more

This Winco is staffed by the most awesome people. I asked an employee about different kinds of coffee and he was able to tell me about the different types, flavors, and brewing methods. It was pretty crazy Winco's prices are cheaper on average than other grocery stores-- notably fred meyers and safeway, but it really depends on the day. On rare occasions, FMs and safeway will have pretty extreme coupons. Batteries at winco are cheaper than other places for some reason. read more

WinCo was a staple growing up in Corvallis. For grocery shopping with mom, hanging out with friends, hoping to run into cute boys from school, and in college, for cheap groceries. Things (despite a name change from Cub Foods in the late 90's) are mostly the same. I tend to come back here once when I'm in town, for nostalgia or a grocery fix. The bulk section is noteworthy and the produce section seems large in comparison to some stores. It's not fancy like Market of Choice , but decidedly serves a need for the community. read more

If you don't know the layout you will do a lot of walking to find what you need. Best grocery prices in Corvallis, definitely a plus. The thing to be MOST aware of is that they do not accept payment by credit card. I've been caught by surprise and seen others caught by surprise, when after spending a half hour or more, having the cashier tell you sorry . . . This is definitely the biggest drawback to this store. Once you know that, it's a great place to shop. Pros: -all in all, best prices in town for what they have. You will almost always save money here compared to anywhere else. -good selection in general (but maybe not everything you're looking for) -lines at the cashier not much more than average compared to other stores in town (and that's ok because people usually buy a lot of things here) -great selection of beer and wine at good prices -selection of dairy products is probably the best in Corvallis, unless you are shopping strictly organic. They have Tillamook sour cream--yum. -lots of bins of bulk items with a great price and usually good quality (fresh) because of high turnover Cons: -no credit cards--be sure not to get stuck on that -not the best place to get just a couple things since you're probably investing some time here -you will get a better selection of organic veges at Freddy's or Safeway -frozen foods are sometimes left out a while on pallets when received, and thaw before getting into the freezers. -sometimes people stocking the shelves might bust through a door from the back and almost crash into you -Safeway has a better selection of fresh meat at reasonable prices As long as you know what to expect, Winco is a great place to do your big shopping trip once a week or so. read more

This place is almost like a Costco, but it doesn't quite make it to the awesome level that Costco does. I was in love with the fact that they offer choose your own quantity of snacks, spices, flours, etc. in the back right corner of the store. I have to mention that they have the real deal Gardettos snack mix as a bulk option! That's right, you heard me! GAR freakin DETTOS in BULK!!!! And it isn't the imitation stuff. The prices on their bulk items are pretty good, and I am pretty sure I spent way less on my bulk bag of Gardettos than I would have buying the prepackaged stuff. Anyway, I must say I was not happy with my mixed nuts bulk item, though. I ended up with a large portion of almonds and salt, rather than a good mix of cashews, almonds, walnuts, etc.. I will not be purchasing that one again. I also was displeased with their selection of cheeses. Oh how I loathe their selection of cheeses. It was abysmal, seriously. I am pretty sure they had a tiny refrigerated section with the generic cheddar and mozzarella that were shredded and served in blocks, etc, etc. I was hoping that their fine cheese selection would be nice, but it wasn't even OK. Hardly any options and I'm almost certain I didn't see any Pecorino Romano. Sad sad day when they don't even have Pecorino Romano and sell some cheapo Parmesan crap. Overall, the food items here are decent. They probably have everything you need so that you can do one stop shopping. The prices are decent, but because the cheese selection was so bad, I can't get myself to give this place more than 3 stars. They at least get 3 because of the Gardettos though! read more

WinCo Foods (once called Cub Foods back in the day) is a bastion of high quality, low cost food. The bulk food section saves lots of money. While they're for people shopping on a budget-they have fancy things like halvah and French cheeses. WinCo is different in that it doesn't accept credit. It's a good ol' Corvallis standby, perfect for getting provisions to see the Oregon Trail. read more

Debit is okay (PIN transaction only) Self checkout is probably the best of any grocery store. Large store with excellent prices and value. It has a very large selection of bulk items as well. The produce department is fairly plain and at times may have some items that need to be taken out of rotation, but an intelligent shopper should be able to make out like a bandit. As for the meat department there's not a thing wrong with it other than the packaging is not attractive, but you're not eating that so who gives a shit. They carry a lot of lower end cuts for the penny pincher as well. You could go to Fred Meyer, but you'll get the same exact thing for a dollar or two more. Probably even off the same truck, so-to-speak. If you have even more money to flush down the crapper, go ahead and visit the co-op. Just be prepared to be frowned at by a Phish reject if you're buying any tasty dead critter. read more

I only come here to buy dry foods for cheap since that fits my budget when it comes to trying to eat healthy. I don't trust the produce since it doesn't look fresh and I don't really trust the meat & poultry since it's... WinCo. Who the hell knows where their cows comes from. If you want cheap stuff in bulk invest here but if you want better quality in produce and meats go elsewhere like the Co-Op or Fred Meyer. As a college student, I'm very glad that stores like WinCo are still around! The prices are much lower than other grocery stores in the area, and bagging your own groceries really isn't a big deal. They are open 24 hours a day, but if you go late at night, there are usually boxes all over the place because they have to restock the shelves sometime! I have been to just about every grocery store in the area and have not found one that compares to the savings I get at Winco. We bought predominately non-perishables here and then stopped by co-op for organic veggies and meat. Yes, there are some sketchy shoppers in there, especially late at night, but oh well. This is a low overhead grocery store, I knew it as Cub Foods in the Midwest in the 80's. Produce section is pretty good, I don't buy bakery or deli. They carry the basic brands. Overall a very good store. My only problem is that the checkers, all of the ones I have dealt with over the last 6 months, are uniformly sour and unhappy. I thought it was something I was doing, but the checkers at Safeway and People's Choice are pleasant and friendly when I go through the line so I think it must be a WinCo thing. I obviously don't know if it's a case of WinCo treating their employees poorly or management missing something critical in hiring. Regardless, I will continue to shop there since it is close to home and the prices are excellent. read more

I stopped at Winco looking for a specific item. A couple entered the store in front of me passing the sign that indicates only service dogs are allowed inside. Their 2 dogs were NOT service dogs. One was a Rottweiler and the smaller one was of indeterminate breed. They had NO leash manners -- the man could not control the bigger one. He was dragged through the store by these barking dogs. I stopped at the service desk to find out why such a travesty was allowed and the woman said anybody could say their dog was a service dog and they could not argue. What a load of nonsense! Service dogs have some kind of training -- at least how to walk on a leash. What about little kids in the store? What about customers who are afraid of dogs? I passed a woman who dropped a frozen item and the Rottweiler lunged for it. The man picked it up and was offended when the woman did not thank his dog. It's situations like this that give dogs in public places a bad name. The next time I go to Winco, I will have my constantly barking and shedding Shetland Sheepdog with me. Hope the customers appreciate dog hairs on the produce. read more
