Visiting Oregon, told by a friend who was very familiar with the area to visit Local Boyz. I did and it was a great visit. Most challenging part was finding the entrance , it was tucked away out of sight. The menu is hand written on a chalk board. The 5A I ordered came with chicken, rice, and macaroni salad. The food came out quickly. Seating is tough to come by, many folks were ordering to go. The "da sauce" found at each table, in an unmarked bottle, was tasty and I nice addition to the meal. Simply one word to describe such a legendary place for so many alumni such as my wife and myself - "home." Living in Portland now after graduating years ago, my wife and I make it a point to make a stop at Local Boyz whenever we go to the coast and are nearby. The smell, the taste, and the atmosphere just remind us of the college days and it's not something that can be replicated - especially with the sauce! We always order the 12b with the ribs and steak and the large size is enough to share between the both of us - unless we're both starving. The one thing I would warn customers about but it's not enough of a shoe stopper - it does have very limited parking spots behind the building on Monroe that is shared among the other business. However, there are parking spots on the campus across the street - not sure if it's free or not. read more

Love their consistency and dedication to Olympic level food and employees! For over 2 decades, Ive had my go-to order and it's always the best Hawaiian food in Oregon. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. It was a plain, dry piece of chicken breast on top of rice. When I say plain, I mean plain... no seasonings, no sauce... not even salt or pepper. I would automatically assume that teriyaki chicken would at least come with teriyaki... but no.. it didn't. This was the most sad and most disappointing meal I have ever eaten. Local Boyz was my first exposure to Hawaiian Plate Lunch cuisine back in the day when I was at Oregon State. I always compare shoyu chicken, loco moco, mac salad, and da sauces I try at any other Hawaiian spots to Local Boyz. Hadn't been in over 20 years and was very relieved to see that nothing had changed, the food was just as good as I remember, college kids still working the counter, great tunes, and same ambiance. Did short ribs and ono chop steak for lunch before taking my daughter on an OSU admissions tour. Staff was very friendly and even quickly changed out the Sprite tank so we could get the drinks we wanted. There are only two restaurants worth going to campus for when school (OSU) is happening and this is one of them. I called and politely let them know about my disappointment with the food, only to be met with a demeaning and rude manager named Gary. He kept interrupting me and ended with "well, everyone else loves the food so I don't know what to tell you." Then proceeded to hang up on me. I have heard so many people rave about Local Boyz, so I was excited to try it out. While the food wasn't bad, I was disappointed at the blandness of the food, even after I added sauce. The macaroni salad and the rice were tasty, but the chicken I ordered was bland and dry. They do serve a generous portion, however. Getting into the restaurant is kind of confusing - you can't enter through the door closest to Monroe; there is another door further down that you need to open to enter the restaurant. But you can exit out of the door that you couldn't enter through before. I really want to give Local Boyz a better rating, but my partner also hasn't enjoyed the food here. We're willing to give it another go, though. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day. Corvallis in general seems to really love Local Boyz, so I'm hoping I'll find something that I enjoy the next time I order food here. read more

Can't recommend enough. Super comfy ambiance and cool location with crepe and donut shops right downstairs. I walked in and I felt like a local and a regular even though it was my first time. Also despite non-stop orders, the food was delivered extremely quickly. The portions are large and prices are very reasonable. Lastly and most importantly, the food tasted great. These girls working here are on their high horse. My friends and I went here after the Beavers football game on Saturday. A place my friends went when they went to college here. It definitely isn't the same. I ordered the shoyu chicken meal to go and noticed that they only had soy sauce and Tabasco sauce out on the counter to use. Tobacco isn't even Hawaiian, which is strange. When I noticed they had bottles of Sriracha behind the counter I asked if I could use a little bit over my rice to go with the soy. The girls then preceded to tell me no, that if they did it for me, they would have to do it for everyone. But they could sell me a cup of the sauce for 50 cents. I had already paid and didn't have any cash on me. I thought this was terrible customer service on their part. I've never been to a Hawaiian place that offers Tabasco but not Sriracha for free? I'm baffled and disappointed. Definitely a bad experience to have after a game day and the excitement of getting to try this place. I will not be going back.
