When we declined they said they couldn't tow us. So I called AAA and they changed their tune. The employee I spoke to in their dispatch was rude to me and the overall vibe was very slimy and scammy. My vehicle was towed here through an AAA roadside assistance request (not police ordered). When I went to retrieve my car, I provided my ID and electronic proof of valid registration. Staff (female receptionist) and the "manager" (Hussein) refused to release my vehicle unless I produced a physical paper copy of the registration. When I asked for a written policy explaining this requirement, they refused to provide one. The manager stated that if police could verify my registration, they would release the vehicle. Based on that statement, I called the San Diego Police Department. Officers arrived, verified that my registration was valid, and stated that the tow yard was being unreasonable. Despite police verification and their prior statement, the manager still refused to release my vehicle. While refusing release, they continued to charge $80 per day in storage fees and added a lien fee. I was also given incorrect information about supposed legal liability if I drove the vehicle away. Promises made to police about waiving fees were later refused in writing. To make matters worse, they lost my keys while my vehicle was in their possession, adding another layer of stress and delay to an already unacceptable situation. This experience caused unnecessary financial harm, delays, and frustration. I strongly recommend that anyone dealing with this company document everything carefully, ask for written policies, and be prepared for resistance even when you have valid documentation. I hope management seriously reviews how vehicle releases, customer communication, and basic handling of personal property are managed. read more

DO NOT use this towing service. i was in an accident and called AAA to get a tow truck out, after letting them know they connected me to windnsea towing and said someone would be on there way and arrive within 25-30 minutes. i waited three hours on the side of the road blocking traffic. three hours later and incredibly rude driver arrived who told me he would take my car to windnsea tow lot FREE OF CHARGE AND FREE OF TOW FEE. come to pick up my car the next day and get charged 310 dollars for tow fee. tried to get the charge disputed and was hung up on. this place is a scam. read more

I was put into contact with this company by AAA. I asked him to tow my car to the Mazda dealership. He tried to talk me out of it and to taking to a recommended shop instead. When I finally stopped him from doing that, he came - drove my car around the block and said "it's fine." Talked me out of having it towed. Now I'm sitting on the side of the freeway in the heat after losing power in the middle of a busy freeway - very dangerous situation, and my daughter is missing her doctor appointment that was made months ago. I would strongly not recommend this company. After I was in an accident, my car was clearly not safe to drive. I called around noon to have it towed. I was told the tow truck would arrive around 2:20 PM, then again at 2:46 PM--but by 4 PM, no one had shown up. I waited over four hours with no updates, no follow-up, and no apologies. We called for a AAA tow to take our son's car, after an accident, to Caliber Collision. Driver from Wind N Sea shows up, verifies he's AAA and does not take our car to where we requested. On top of all of this we were charged $250 and told if we did not pay we would be taken to collections. There are a lot of tow service companies. I would not trust this one. Arrived insanely fast and Danny was immediately aware of the issue underlying why my car died. they were the only ones to actually tell me I needed a replacement for the auxiliary battery, instead of trying to sell me a replacement main battery, which is what happened the last few times my car broke down and another company came to jump it. I would have spent thousands trying to diagnose this problem but instead Danny helped me find the battery I needed, at a good price, and got my car running. All for a normal jump start service call. The other morning I woke up my car wouldn't turn over. I actually suspected there was a problem with the key fob battery because the first click opened the drivers side door but there was not click to open the passenger side door. I went back into the house to get the back up key fob, and no luck either. After going back and forth with the dealership because I was stranded at home, I called AAA to have the car towed to the dealership. AAA dispatched Wind and Sea Towing. While they made it within the amount of time promised (45 minutes), I wasn't expecting it would take that long because it was early morning and I often see a Wind and Sea tow truck parked under a freeway bridge about a mile from my house. The first driver (I can't remember his name) was very nice, and suggested a jump. I didn't think that made sense, but once I agreed the jump managed to turn the engine over. He was right! The battery was dead. Even though I saw it with my own two eyes it didn't make any sense. The battery was only 3.5 years old, and there was nothing to indicate it was failing. He suggesting testing the battery, and it was under 12 volts. After thinking about driving around San Diego (at $5.00 a gallon) to recharge the battery, I decided to take his advise and buy another battery. He had to call his partner with the battery truck, but his partner dropped by and swapped batteries pretty quickly. The service was good and they did solve my problem, but there is one thing that left me wondering and a suggestion. First, I bought the battery that failed from a AAA dispatched tow truck in June 2020, and I swore it was still under warranty. (I also paid about $64.00 more for the new battery compared to old battery.) Second, I remember AAA tow truck drivers carrying around extra batteries in the old days. If the tow trucks carried 3 or so batteries they could sell/swap out the batteries much quicker than having to wait for another truck to drop by. (Just a thought.) -Joe read more

WARNING! PREDATORY AAA EXTORTION SCHEME! One of the drivers is a hustler. If you're unlucky enough to get Karam (Adam?), especially if you're a woman, be prepared that he will attempt to extort you for cash. He that said AAA refused to cover my car and I would need to pay him out of pocket. I told him that I knew that wasn't true because I just had the car towed by AAA from the dealer while I waited on parts, which were now in. He said I could either pay him cash or he will call AAA and have my membership canceled. I overheard him telling the dispatcher that I was "going off on him because he is unable to tow my 'modified' car". When I explained that the car was not modified and it was in the identical spot AAA left it, he walked away and had a conversation with dispatch that I couldn't hear. He simply said, "well, they aren't going to tow your car and your membership is canceled". Fortunately, my brother used to work for AAA dispatch as a manager. I knew exactly how to handle Karam. I called AAA directly to report the incident and verify that none of Karan's statements were true. They would be sending a different company to pick up my car. I was also given the customer experience phone number so that they could document this incident (apparently one of many, involving Karam). My car was eventually picked up by Star Towing without any fuss. Didn't cost me a penny. Driver arrived and said "no problem!" It was loaded very quickly and professionally. No extortion involved. I highly recommend Star Towing over Wind N Sea. Honestly, It was worth the wait after the abuse I suffered at Wind N Sea. Star Towing was polite, courteous and has much better trucks. Very cathartic. It turns out that this AAA hustle is a regular practice for Wind N Sea (see other reviews below). Beware if they refuse to take your car where you've requested. They probably intend to take to their lot to charge "storage" fees. Also, follow the truck if you can. They will put an accident vehicle in their lot and charge storage fees "on the way" to the repair shop. Very shady practices. If you use the app to put in a second call, wind N Sea will take your call and sit on it. If you are unfortunate enough for this to happen to you, you need to call the AAA dispatch (800) 400-4222 directly and request a "reroute" . This bypasses Wind N Sea. They will put a new request in the backend system so Wind N Sea can't sit on your tow request. Then call AAA customer experience phone number to report them. Date of service: November 27, 2019 What kind of towing service has it on the customer to use Share My Location on Apple Maps just so they can find them? Apparently, Wind 'N Sea Towing does... My brother's alarm system went off while he was at the gym and thus his car wouldn't start. When AAA came out to service it, they had sent a repair truck and not a tow truck - so one was (eventually) sent to the gym. Apparently, the driver wasn't told the exact location of the gym (even though we told AAA dispatch where we were) so he got lost. Not only that, he wanted us to use the Share My Location feature on Apple Maps so he could find us. Okay, shouldn't it be on the company to ask, rather then tell the customer to use Apple Maps (and not just that, use a function they're not even familiar with)? And another thing - we wanted to get the car towed back to our residence and then call our usual car shop on Friday to see what could be done. Instead, the driver talked my dad into bringing it into a certified AAA facility and leaving it there during the Thanksgiving holiday. I don't know if that's proper procedure, but if the customer says to bring it to a certain location, you should listen to them, right? Now it looks like we'll be paying a storage fee in addition to whatever repairs (if any) are done... As you can see, I was not impressed. read more

I have a classic car. It turns heads. Unfortunately, it usually turns heads from the drivers going by me as I'm broken down on the road! I called AAA, and they got WIND 'N SEA TOWING to pick me up. My driver HUSSEIN was amazing. He was very helpful, did a quick job getting it on the flatbed. He called on the way there, suggesting I call the police so they could block my car (as I was blocking the right lane of traffic on a busy street). The long ride taking my car to my mechanic, couldn't have been more pleasant, as we had great conversations all the way there. If I could give him, and this company 10 stars on here, I would. PREDATORY TOWING COMPANY! This business scammed me! They towed/impounded my car completely illegally. The California Vehicle Code is very clear how a private towing company may impound a vehicle. And Wind N Sea towing broke every rule in the book: 1. Their tow away sign was non compliant. 2. They impounded my car in less than 40 minutes of it being parked. 3. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude, and was hostile when I asked for information. 3. They refused to provide me the tow authorization information, showing time stamps. 4. They WAY overcharged me for 2 days of storage, when my car impounded for LESS than 24 hours. read more
