Incredibly and shockingly rude employees, has gone downhill over the years. My sister and our boyfriend's have been coming to Wind for at least 5yrs, the service used to be amazing. There was a waitress named "keny" and she was always so sweet, well mannered, and made sure you felt welcomed and taken care of every time we went without fail. Now days, there is constantly employees sleeping in the dining area and the new waitress is always rude, throws your food down on the table, never asks how the food is, never asks if you need a refill of water. I've let it slide many times just because it's the only AYCE place in Keswick but not this time. Today was the last time I will EVER walk foot in this restaurant and I use the term "restaurant" loosely. We had just walked in, barely got greeted by the miserable waitress, she then told us we couldn't sit in the corner booth on one side of the room cuz someone was "sitting" there but really it was someone sleeping, so my sister proceeded to walk to the other corner booth and realized another employee was also sleeping there too, so we sat in the middle. The woman employee sleeping in the booth next to us then proceeded to yell at our group and tell us to "sit somewhere else! I'm sleeping here!" We we're so utterly shocked and almost speechless. My boyfriend asked her if she lived at the restaurant because we're paying customers. She left it at that and then proceeded to play loud music on her phone out of spite because she didn't like us talking beside her...even the other rude waitress seemed to be telling her to stop. At one point this lady sleeping nudged my sister with her foot! Please see pictures of the 2 unprofessional employees sleeping in the dining room. Never in my life have I received such horrible service. Will be finding a new sushi place in Newmarket! Boycott this place by all means! Do not give them your money! Wow, lots of bad reviews. This restaurant has a much better rating on Google, with a lot more reviews too. This little gem is reasonably priced with good food, and service comparable to places in Markham. We've been multiple times at different times of day and the experience has been excellent. The menu is what you'd expect from a Canadian AYCE sushi restaurant. The tempura is fresh and not overbattered, the fish is decent (although it doesn't stick to the rice particularly well on nigiri and rolls), and the fry oil seems to be changed frequently so it doesn't flavor the food. The service is at least as good as AYCE restaurants in Markham. They're good about clearing empty dishes, and if they're a little slow to grab your order slip sometimes, it's not because they're ignoring you. Usually they're at the register or some other task. On our latest visit one of the tables nearby wasn't sure what they were ordering and the staff patiently explained to them. It's been a while since our first visit because a lot of the negative reviews made me nervous. I can confidently say we'll be back again soon. read more

Such a sham! This place used to be fantastic! Then it started to slip and portions became smaller. Recently we ordered for delivery and was told 40 minute. Part of our order was missing items. Our bill was over $100 and they only offered $8 back. We are a family of many, so unfortunately we won't be going back. read more

Wind Sushi is very good. I go most times I visit my folks up in Keswick. Always been a fan. The essential info: - The lunch menu and dinner menu are almost identical. From about 65 items to choose from for lunch, it goes up to about 70 for dinner. Those 5 (or so) extra choices are nothing special. In short: It is NOT worth the large price increase for the extra items on the dinner menu -- you're paying for the time of day, rather than an expanded selection. Going around Noon or 1pm is perfect. Even if you can't due to work/school, still worth it to go lunchtime on the weekend for a minimal $2 more. - Seating for about 25 overall. It has never been too full, and the service is quick and friendly (they accommodate larger parties, but call ahead if so) - Many different payment options, and no errors with our bill (although it's hard to mess up "all you can eat") and they have no issue with paying together or separately - At times they may forget to give you an item, especially if you write a lot of things down. This isn't the end of the world -- just remind them :) Prices: I uploaded an updated image of the pricing as of September 2016. Edit: as of now (Summer 2018), I believe it is $13.99 for weekday lunch, per person. Still affordable. Now to review some of the food: - Their miso soup is good, although about the same as you can get most anywhere else - I like their spring rolls. They are nice and flaky with a good taste and texture - The general tso's chicken is tasty, juicy, and the sauce has just the right blend of flavour and spice - I really like the beef and chicken teriyaki -- it has a nice taste and pairs well with some of the other dishes. The portion is super tiny, but you can simply order as many as you want - All of their tempura is awesome. We've gotten shrimp, eggplant, pumpkin, broccoli, and sweet potato and enjoyed it all. Comes with plenty of tempura sauce - The chicken pad thai is pretty good. It's not mind blowing, but we like it - Their "dynamite roll" maki is real nice... it is shrimp tempura + avocado + cucumber + mayo + tobiko, and it's a great mix! We will get it again, maybe getting the "spicy" version of it next time - As for the "odder" sushi: I totally love the mango roll maki. It comes with some mango and avocado, and this delicious mango glaze on top, almost like a mix of a savoury dish with a dessert. We also tried the mango banana maki this most recent visit. It didn't have that mango glaze on top, but it was really good! A nice mix of mango and banana flavour! - We usually order several of the "bean curd sushi". It is great. As he described, the tofu itself is really sweet... like a sweet bread basically! I'm a fan - I really like their "sweet potato hand roll". It's big and full of flavour - For dessert, I make sure to always get a deep fried banana. It's awesome. The chocolate drizzle is yummy. Their ice cream though is bland I actually don't eat fish myself (I know, it's therefore odd for me to go to a sushi place) but I do eat crab/shrimp, and I appreciate that the menu has so many options that even a non-fish eater like me has a lot to choose from. For those who love fish: others with me have gotten various tuna, salmon, and mackerel items and they said most of it was very good, although the mackerel was described as 'too strong'. Conclusion: The main reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I think their dinner prices are too inflated for what is effectively the same menu. Another reason is that some of the items aren't anything special (it doesn't taste "gourmet quality", even if its tasty) but I think a 4/5 is a very favourable rating! Service is subpar. *Most* service staff is rude and come off as very unhappy to work there. This rubs off on all of the customers and gives a terrible vibe. Asking for a simple refill of water seems to be a real inconvenient chore and definitely does not make you feel welcome. I tip based off performance and what I believe is deserved from the service I received - long story short I tipped 10%. The lady in a sarcastic voice said, "$2, wow big tipper" and I walked out. The food isn't horrible. It's a good quick fix, there are much better places and there are much worse places. But this sort of service is not what I look forward to and this is not a place I like to spend my money any more. I'd rather spend my money somewhere I feel somewhat valued as a customer. You're not missing out on anything special. If you're really craving sushi and this is your last resort, order take out. Don't bother dining in. read more

I love this place. It looks sketchy from the outside but inside its super nice. Although havent been inside since before COVID. The food is delicious, like super delicious. When I found out they had opened for take out i was there ordering that day and they were so busy I had to wait 25 minutes extra for my food but it was so worth it. Not a fan at all. Service is mediocre, the food is bland and the sushi comes out warm every single time. I've tried going here on many occasions giving them more then their fair share of tries but they never exceeded my expectation. I've also read this place has had a few citations with health and safety so that's a little sketch. Overall for what you pay the quality just isn't there. I would rather pay the same for less at a non all you can eat sushi place as long as I know the quality is there. I love good sushi and I am sad this has fallen short. read more

I laughed when I saw the size of the sushi rolls. The take out portion should not be the same as the AYCE portions. I ordered green dragon and unneeded a magnifying glass to see if there was tobiko in my roll. Up your game so people are not going to Newmarket for better sushi. read more

We thought to order light sushi takeout for dinner. Some of the dinner party does not like to eat shrimp, crab, or any shellfish. So why eat sushi you ask? Well, one, I can my kind of sushi next time; two, they still want their sushi cravings to be satisfied; and three, I was not that hungry, so I didn't mind not having my sushi galore moment. What did we order then? Eel sushi and white tuna sushi; spicy and original tuna and salmon rolls; wontons and vegetable tempuras (broccoli, yam, eggplant, mushrooms, and onion). The fish were fresh. The spicy rolls were tasty, of course, not as spicy as I would like, but it's doable. The rice portion is okay for the roll. The rice portion for the sushi pieces were a bit more than I usually get from other restaurants. I like the fish portion to be 3 to 4mm thick as supposed to 2mm. I know this sounds silly since the difference is only 1mm but when you see the difference, then you would be nitpicking it, too. The rice is just to balance the taste, lol, that's why I don't want it much. Yes, I know there is sashimi, of course, but I didn't order this time. Over all, I give this restaurant a four because I've been to worse restaurants but Wind is better than most sushi restaurants operating in smaller town/city outside of the GTA. Fresh fish, check. Rice is plump and soft, check. Creativity in preparation of the rolls, half-check. Way edible, check check. Would I go again if I'm in the area, yes and will be checked. read more

Well what can I say but very disappointed!! Have been coming here for a few years and last night was very very bad!! We found plastic wrapper in our food and anything hot tasted very funny! All fried stuff seemed that it was cooked in old oil and not fresh at all!! Plus serve was not good! Waited for our food for a long time. Miss good service and food has gone down hill!! It's hard to get horrible sushi and if I could give a 2.5, I would. Too much emphasis on the mayo in the sauces and not enough on the fish. The seaweed salad was delicious and their simple one piece items we're pretty solid. Service was poor at best considering the place was almost empty. Waitress had to wait for me to get her attention and didn't warn me that I was finished through my first round. Wasabi had zero kick, was almost dry and offer you so little that I had to ask for extra twice! Bottom line, if you really crave sushi this beats going to a grocery store, but not by much. read more

This place is a pretty decent AYCE location. For the people reading this, not I don't eat raw fish, but my dad and brother did and they thought it was good. It looked fresh (we went at 12 noon) and we saw them taking fish filets from the back and bringing them out front. What I can say after trying a bit of everything, the food is pretty good. It's definitely on par with many other sushi locations in the GTA, however it does not exceed or fall behind any, it's simply generic. The dumplings were what I would expect, the won ton soup was flavourful and basic, what I did really enjoy that other restaurants may be lacking, the tempura was super light and crispy. Service was good. The server wasn't very people friendly, but she was still polite and attentive. It was getting busy as we were leaving and she was serving about 6 tables on her own, and seems to have done a good job doing it. The place looked tidy and the decor was typical. If they put a little into lightening the place up I'm sure it may have more of an appeal. From the second we parked the dark brown was kind of a downer. Anyway, I don't live in the area, but if I was back in Georgina or Keswick I'd pop in. Can't really beat a $13 AYCE lunch. read more

Terrible!!!!!. I'm always skeptical of fish away from big cities or water since I got food poisoning before from bad fish in the middle of nowhere - and good thing I was paranoid. The tuna sashimi came out looking dried up and smelt like a combination of rotten fish with mouldy cheese and sour milk. HOW do they Even think this is acceptable?! That piece of raw fish must have been a month old! Good thing I smelt it before eating it. On top of that , here's a list of crap items we tried: Chicken teriyaki - crap Popcorn chicken - crap Salmon roll - crap (who puts avocado in salmon roll??) Chicken skewers - acceptable Edaname - crap (not fully cooked) Seriously, how do you screw up something as simple as edaname??? Used to love this place until my husband and I got food poisoning from the California hand roll (my sister didn't eat that and she was fine). It tasted a little off at the time but it had been a while since I've had sushi ,so I just thought it was in my mind..the last 3 days have been awful. Won't be going back here again! read more

I've been to this sushi place very many times as it is the only AYCE in the area and it started out as an average restaurant and I had no complaints, but in the past couple years it has gone very much down hill. The waiters are extremely rude and not welcoming at all, they sleep in the booths near customers during restaurant hours, and they falsely advertise their store hours and make customers leave at 9:00pm or earlier instead of 10:00pm. These comments are from personal experiences, me and my family were having sushi and it was around 9pm and we were told we had to leave the restaurant because they were closing, then when we said that there store hours said 10pm they told us we had to leave anyways and made us pay and leave. Another time we had been told we could not sit in the booth we usually sit in because an employee was sleeping, then we had to settle and sit beside a different employee who was also sleeping in another booth and we had gotten yelled at by that employee for being too loud while she was sleeping in the booth beside us, she said "shh!! Be quiet I am trying to sleep here!!" Overall, the presentation of this restaurant is pathetic and very unprofessional, the waiters are rude, they take your menus when you aren't finished with them, they bring you warm water, the food is not fresh at all, and they sleep and get paid to sleep. It is very unacceptable and I will never go back here again because myself and my family have had enough of the poor service and food. It is not worth it to go to a restaurant and pay to get treated bad as well. read more

I love Wind Sushi! I live and work downtown Toronto and have had a lot of great sushi and they are definitely comparable. I would recommend going during lunch time instead of dinner as it seems like a pretty steep price, lunch is more reasonable. I visit this place almost every few weeks when I visit my family and everything I've tried (including the fish) on the menu was flavourful and always fresh tasting, not once have I ever gotten sick from their food! I'm reallly confused about the two 1-star reviews, but to each their own. My only complaint is that when they get a little bit busy they sometimes mix up orders (bring someone else your food, or you someone else's). This has happened to us maybe 2 out of the dozen times we've been there and we always keep track of what we were ordering, I noticed that some of our rolls weren't coming even after 20-30mins. Asked the waitress if it was on it's way and when she checked she apologized and said they gave it to another table. They did their best to rectify it by sending the roll out to us asap and were very generous with the portion size. Can't wait to go there with my sister this weekend! read more

I have been going here for 2 years. Never had any complaints. But on Good Friday 2018 was a disaster, my friend and I decided to enjoy a good sushi lunch. I was disgusted as the table felt grimy even though it was apparently clean. Then we ordered a little too much, and I don't believe in waste so we usually take the extra home. The server said it would be an extra $10.00 to take it home. I have never paid that much, it's usually 4 or 5 dollars more. There was 10 pieces and they told me a dollar a piece. I told them they could keep it, and I was told it didn't matter whether I left it or took it, I would be charged the same. I said I wasn't paying it at all. In the end they kept the leftover and I paid the regular price and I will never return, I want everyone know that if they eat there to be careful they don't take advantage. What are the chances that Keswick has 2 REALLY GREAT sushi places. I was a bit nervous about Wind Sushi, from the outside it leaves a lot to be desired. Once I walked through the doors my perception began to change. Long story short, we have ate at many downtown, out of town Sushi places and this is by far my favourite. I have been to Wind 2 times now and both times I was very disappointed. My first visit with my family was a huge let down. We ordered several items from the menu and then waited over 45 min to get anything. We order things that were simple like miso soup and sashimi. The whole meal went on like this. When we questioned the manager he told us that they had give our oder to different table. The second time the place was dead and I still waited over 10 min for soup and sashimi. both times the kept brining things we didn't order, and not bringing what we did. The place is so small it should be easy to get right. The decor is surprisingly nice considering the outside looks like a run down shack. I'm pretty sure it was a old run down Chinese restaurant before. The food is hit and miss. So items are good and some like the garlic beef is awful. The sushi is low quality..... I don't care if you have been to a fancy place in the city.. The white tuna is butterfish and the salmon is B quality at beast. They have a very small selection of sashimi to chose from. read more

My boyfriend and I go to Wind Sushi maybe once every 2-3 months . It's a small restaurant that seats MAX 40 people , most of the time the service / food are very good , until last night ... they got some new staff . Here's the story . We walk in , one of the new waitress sat us down at our table and asked us what we would like to drink I said "I'll have an iced tea please" and my boyfriend said "I'll have a Sapporo thanks" the waitress looks at him and says "um your face is all red have you been drinking? Can I see ID?" no we haven't been drinking ... it's winter , it's cold ... that was the first thing . Second thing , when we go for sushi we always order our favourites and always order the same portions (Ex. "D71 - 6pcs or D12 - 12pcs) I'm very particular with my order , I always write "pcs" and I always put 6 or 12 . So we order , we're eating , then out of nowhere she comes up behind me , reaches over my head and shoulders and puts the paper place mat in front of me like I'm 5 years old ! I found this to be very rude as well . Next she came out with another plate of our food BUT there were 3 orders (18pcs) of sweet potato rolls , my boyfriend and I stop and look at each other and I said "I ordered 6pcs...." the waitress says "is this not what you ordered? Hold on I'll check ... ya it says 3 orders" I wanted to ask her to show me where the hell it says that on my order sheet because like I said I'm very particular , why lie about it ? but I bit my tongue and just let it go . Lastly we finished eating but we knew we ordered won tons and they still haven't came so we waited for about 15 minutes , she never came back to the table to offer us more drinks or food , she ignored us . After about 20 minutes of waiting we decided to leave . We didn't tip and we're not going back if we see her there . Our past experiences at Wind have been great , the staff are so friendly and the foods really great .
