I have come to the restaurant for dine-in a few times already and have had many takeout orders in the last 5 years since the last time I reviewed them. This time they're getting 5/5 rating. The place is a decent size, not too big, lots of tables and hardly any wait when dining in as they have a lot of takeout orders they typically deal with. The servers are so kind, very nice people to be honest. You know their customer service is very important to them. They make the kids and adults comfortable and very attentive with customers. The food is also amazing as always. Haven't had complaints in the last few years. We always order all salmon with platters and never disappoints. Parking though can be annoying, they have a few at the front but can get full so just park at the side. I will continue to come here again and again. read more

It's worth the drive to Oak Ridges! (It's a 23 minute drive from Hwy 7 and Yonge.) The food is excellent. Best spicy tuna hand roll I've ever had. Excellent service. It's a relatively small restaurant so I suggest making a reservation. Highly recommended. read more

This place used to be soooo good, with every bite an explosion of flavour. However the last few times - sadly to say - the sushi has been bland and lifeless. The sushi rice was unseasoned. There was just nothing about any of the rolls that differentiated it from a supermarket box of sushi. I would not recommend Kitano Sushi any more. If you're looking for rolls, I would rate them 4/5 - huge rolls - tight rice - each person can order 1 roll to be full - lots of sauce if you are a sauce person you'll like it - fusion style rolls - more korean style If you're looking for authentic Japanese sushi, 3/5, this is not a place for authentic Japanese sushi - roll too big, take 2-3 bites to eat 1. I like bite size sushi or roll as I was used to traditional Japanese sushi that each bit get everything as a combination - spicy salmon was more tempura and sauce than the actual salmon - too much sauce that covers the raw flavour of the food - sashimi platter: I don't eat white tuna/butter fish so I told them replace it with some other fish. They just simply put salmon to replace. Quite disappointed as they can do assorted fish... now the whole plate is mainly salmon.... Overall 3.5/5. I was expecting traditional classic Japanese sushi/roll. Turns out it's more Caucasian style saucy rolls. If you're a picky eater (like me) for Japanese sushi, you might not like it because it's not the traditional rice texture, vinegar, size etc. I have high standard when it comes to those details. However if you're looking for some rolls that can make you full and had a good night with tasty special rolls, you'll enjoy it! They taste good. read more

Went here with a few friends mid-week and there were quite a few tables occupied. On arrival, we were nicely greeted and seated quickly even though it was for 6. The place is clean, however, I found the handling of the dishes could be more sanitary as the wait staff fingers were all over the surface of the items. To start, we were given some complimentary edamame - not bad. I ordered the bento box 1 with maki and 1 choice for meat. I had bulgogi beef along with the set salmon & California rolls. The miso soup and salad that came with the meal were enjoyable. The bulgogi was fine. Nothing lip smacking or anything. The salmon roll - the salmon were huge chunks which threw the ratio to rice off, and not the best quality. The California rolls were not good. The rice was tough and the 'cucumber' was just the cucumber skin strips. One friend had the beef udon. She couldn't eat it as it had no flavour. The others had a variety of rolls - they also were not too impressed. This is a been there done it restaurant. Probably will not return. read more

The interior decor is modern Japanese, sleek, with nice wooden finishes and comfortable ambiance. Menu selection is pretty extensive, and their sushi are some of the best and freshest in the York Region. Sushi rolls are quite large, with lots of fish and fillings (not overloaded with rice, unlike in some places). The lunch bento boxes come with miso soup, rice, Korean glass noodles (jap chae), yam tempura sushi, salad, and mixed vegetables. I like how they don't skimp on the veggies - there's a good mix of broccoli, carrot, onion, mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini. The salad contains more than just lettuce (it has actual dark greens such as baby spinach and arugula). The teriyaki salmon and unagi don buri are pretty good as well. Sashimi orders come in pretty large size (bigger than in most sushi restaurants I've been to). The unagi sashimi even comes with a bit of rice and daikon noodle strands! As we walked in we were promptly greeted by the chefs and servers. The restaurant is clean and ambiance is good. Service is very attentive and quick-the server even asked me if the window beside me was cold. We went for lunch and they had a Lunch menu til 3pm. We ordered a Set C and a Kitano lunch-the big difference for $3 is 6 pieces of sashimi and one less sushi (IMHO the Kitano lunch is better value). All the ingredients was fresh, nicely presented and tastes good. One minor issue is the Surf Clam sashimi was very sandy inside making it not edible. The other pieces were all very good! An interesting tidbit is their choice of background music was not soothing/relaxing music but rather an "younger mix" with a bit too much dance and heavy beats. I did not find the music bad (I enjoyed it but I think it's definitely my kids music choice) It was the first time I heard this music choice in a Japanese place. A good, new choice in Oak Ridge! Covid19 Lockdown in the Province , therefore take out allowed only. Recommended by a friend so we decided to try today. We did have to call a few times before anyone answered, I am sure they were quite busy with orders. They do have online ordering, but I was driving so couldn't order via online. I ordered a small sashimi just to try. It was $19. Price is reasonable for the quality. Sashimi was fresh and I enjoyed it very much. I will definitely come back for other items ok the menu. We ordered dinner from Kitano through ubereats today and really enjoyed it. Kitano is a real contender for my top favorite Japanese restaurants. Their prices are a bit higher than others but the quality made up for it. We order a sushi Sashimi maki combo with a choice of protein and chose bulgogi. The sashimi was very fresh and sushi rice was perfectly textured with just the right amount of vinegar. One thing I thought they can improve on is the bulgogi, it's a bit too sweet. Overall good flavourful food and good dining experience! We came for dinner on a Sunday night and there was quite a bit of people in the restaurant, but luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. We ordered two rolls, a dinner set and a dinner Bento box. I'm a sucker for rolls... So I was super interested in the volcano, which was a triangle shaped spicy roll. Super cute. Very flavourful and loved the kick it gives! We also got a spider roll, which was on point flavour and texture wise, and you can definitely taste the soft shell crab. However I wished these two rolls were more tightly wrapped as they fell apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks. For the dinner specials, they both came with a miso soup and a salad. We got the Maki Set B (more rolls!). I enjoyed the Cali roll and the dynamite roll but found the salmon pretty bland even tho it had a big chunk of salmon in it. Not sure if it was a lower grade salmon as the sushi in the Bento box had the same issue. Salmon teriyaki was great though. I think the prices are a little high comparatively but if I was in the area, would definitely come back to try their other rolls! read more

I've been here about 7 or 8 times after my my first review within a few months. Just 2 minutes drive from my home. Some waitress may even recognized me. Food remains consistently great. However, I'm little disappointed for my last visit about inconsistent service. There was a couple beside our table asked for take leftovers home. The waitress, I guessed she is the owner or manager, helped them to put it in the boxes and returned to them. My wife also preferred to do the same. We asked the same lady, but she just dropped the container on the table without a word. I wouldn't mind to do it myself. Place was packed with people so my expectations were high when going into the restaurant. I ordered a small platter. When the food arrived, the plating was very awkward. They placed rolls on edge of the bowl. Ofcourse the food slipped down while eating. Lack of varieties in choice of sashimi and sushi. In short, based on the food quality and price, I think it's abit over 3 stars. I believe this restaurant is new so maybe things will continue to get better. It's a nice addition to the neighbourhood. The decoration and the env is quite comfortable and new. The lighting is soft so it is creating a comfortable env. And the service staff are quite friendly. We tried a couple of dishes... Hamachi sashimi - the quality is average. Nothing stands out. But for $9, guess it's acceptable Uni sushi - the rice portion for the sushi is too much in my opinion. I would like it less rice. The uni is fresh and big. The only thing is I wish they would use a higher grade wasabi in general, but for $9, reasonable. Negi Hamachi roll - I would expect more onion/chive flavour but this maki lacks very much of it in my opinion. More like just chopped hamachi roll. For $8, I will let it go. Sushi pizza - we actually get the shitaki mushroom with avocado. The thing I don't like is the rice crust on the bottom. It's too thick or too many rice and the outside crunchy layer turns out to be quite hard. I probably won't have this again. Eel on rice - average... but for $19, abit expensive in my opinion. Maybe it's the sauce, abit too sweet for my liking. Bulgogi dinner - the beef is abit chewy than usual and abit salty for our liking. This set is $18, abit pricey for this quality I think. Overall, food presentation is pretty and neat but taste wise, I would say average in general, except for the uni, taste quite good- will even better if with thinner layer of sushi rice, but that's just me. The dinner set include miso soup and salad. If you live in the neighbourhood, this restaurant is not bad and give it a try. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now they were opened for a few days a couple weeks ago but was closed again for a couple weeks for additional reservation. Finally tried place for the first time as a take out I ordered the Sashimi Lunch menu for $14. It came with 12 pieces of basic Sashimi, rice, miso soup and salad. Sushi was fresh and it was generous in size. I also had the chance to try out a piece of my colleague's order she had the green dragon roll and the spicy salmon sushi pizza. Both were also great the green dragon roll was slightly different than what I had, not only did it have tempura shrimp it also had the crab mayo mixture in the roll which was a nice refreshing surprise. I will have to visit the restaurant again to have a sit down meal to be able to review on other aspects of this restaurants like service and atmosphere. read more

Rant of the day! So tonight I ordered @Kitano Sushi in Oak Ridges. I ordered a platter of sashimi, when I called I asked specifically that no shrimp or crab to be put in my order due to allergies. I picked up my order and there was shrimp put in my tray so I went back after I called and asked them to make me a new one and the lady tried to tell me that I never told them not to put shellfish in it so basically told me that I lied. When I called they told me to go back and pick up my new tray, but they wanted the tray back that they made me so they can reuse the fish, but due to covid circumstances they shouldn't have done that, Im not upset that they made a mistake; I am upset that they were so unwilling to right their wrong and for the very harsh and uncompromising tone they had with me. My first ever experience doing takeout wasn't that great, but I like to try a restaurant out at least twice before writing my review. Let's just say... Kitano Sushi did not disappoint! The lunch specials are fantastic and reasonably priced. The sushi fresh in colour, scent and taste. The restaurant is clean and staff are extremely friendly, which is a nice adjustment from most sushi establishments.
