My husband was called white trash by one of the "part owners". My husband and I brought 8 adults and 3 kids to this campground where we stayed two years ago and had a great time in the past so we were excited to have that same experience. At one point, my husband and I needed to leave the site to go to a near by store. When I drove the car back to the site, I pulled over into a safe, out of the way area to get out of the car to allow my husband to back into the parking spot as I will be the first to admit I don't know how to back up into a parking spot. A seemingly drunk woman started yelling that where I pulled over I could not park. I laughed and said "I know, I just need my husband to back into the parking spot because I don't know how" That should have been the end of it, but instead, she continued to yell and then my husband told her to "mind her business". Then she runs over to my site and starts yelling at my friend while she was talking to her 6 year old sun and started to curse at her (I think she thought my friend was me) all while the car was now correctly parked. This of course got every parent at my site upset as this lady started drunkenly yelling at this boys mom when she was not even a part of the situation which should never have become a situation. She told us she is "part owner" and screamed that she was calling someone else over to help her and I told her "good, I would love to tell this story to someone else". The man speeds over in his golf cart asking what had happened and this "part owner" changed her story at least ten times and told him I said a lot of things that I had not said, including she kept telling him I was cursing at her which I would just never ever do. We were almost kicked out over this, and I would never recommend this campground to anyone with children or to anyone who does not know how to back into a parking spot because you will be screamed and curses at in front of your children. read more

I GOT ASSAULTED BY ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES. NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER!!! Can I give negative stars??? Only go here if you're ready to be sliced and diced by every tree branch and rock that goes up your butt. We were not informed on how to obtain the information regarding the contract that we were signing. When we returned to the campground after being assaulted by the river that they made us pay $43 each to float down, we raised our concerns and were verbally attacked and then the woman who did not properly inform us on what we were signing screamed in my face and physically assaulted me. Only come here if you're looking to leave with fresh wounds from what should have been a relaxing day; see pics below OH WAIT IT GETS BETTER!!! Clean, maintained family quiet getaway and they are always busy keeping on it! Never long lines at store or even restaurant!!! So efficient especially being such a large campground with so much rain. 4 star for overnight on cabin rental but sadly, 1 or 2 on tubing trip. Cabin #60 is one of two available cabins with electric lights.It sleeps 4 and has bunk beds with a toilet but no shower. There is an AC unit and heater unit and it's pretty nice for minimal/simple avoiding rain and just unpredictable weather. On the closed in porch, there is a stove, shelving, picnic table, mini fridge, microwave, sink etc... There is a lock for the bedroom and another for the porch. Outside has a picnic table and fire pit. It parks 2 cars. It's nice for camping but if you want to avoid a tent, you'd like the cabin. Nearby and probably a one-two minute walk is the office, showers, pool, game room, etc... the other cabin is closer to this stuff, literally next door with privacy (wooded) but I'm sure there it can be noisier bc it's next to people coming and going. Each site has a trash can so you don't need to walk very far. The store and staff are VERY nice. They have firewood, food and camping essentials. Seasonal campers are very friendly if you are friendly as well. Two nights my friends and I joined them for games and it was great! They were so amazing to hear about how they stay every year. The pool doesn't have layout chairs. It's average size and was clean. I enjoyed it when it wasn't busy midweek and loved the solitude of a pool without a crowd. Tubing: Saturday even at opening in July is BUSY. We waiting over an hour at 10 am checkin and didn't hit water until about 12. You need to ask for a life vest. Do it, be safe. You probably want to buy or rent the paddle if you can. They have mini ones you can buy also. Here's the other tip: stay connected to your crew or at least bring a rope just in case. My experience was terrible but I don't blame the campground. We had an overwhelming amount of rain so the water was way high with a very strong current. I hit trees, thorn bushes, got lost from my friends, almost lost my stuff (sunglasses, visor etc..) whenever I got stuck in trees or the crazy current threw me in thorn bushes. I wound up with cuts all over and will NEVER tube or kayak there again just because the water was insane this year. It was seriously like an action movie and not in a good way. Again, not the campground's fault but for me, hell no. I look back and laugh but I lost one of my 9 lives out there, lol. read more

Like most private campgrounds in NJ these days, this campground is too much like a trailer park. The seasonal people in huge trailers seem to think it should be party central with loud music and bright lights strung everywhere. Weekends are worse. The attraction is the river and the fact that the campground supplies the tubes and kayaks and transportation needed for a float. The problem there is that they are very disorganized with no rhyme or reason for handling the crowds on weekends. My group had nearly a two hour wait. Sites are small and tightly spaced with little privacy. There are trees but offer little screening. The rest rooms are clean and modern. I recommend avoiding weekends. read more

Extremely unprofessional owners. A small misunderstanding quickly got out of hand. Owner (one of the owners, as that's what she called herself) had no problem calling people names and screaming in front of children all over nothing. Sounds crazy but I'm like 90% sure she had been drinking. That would be the only explanation for how she acted. Her husband came over and quickly escalated the misunderstanding even more. This is one of the most best campgrounds I've been to in my life. Here is why! 1. The Staff is very friendly. 2. The place is pet friendly, so you could bring your dog with you. 3. It is in the woods, so you get a lot of shade. 4. The bath houses are a great place to go if you need to use the bathroom and you don't have a bathroom (If you have a tent or a RV or a trailer that doesn't have a bathroom) on your site, and you need to take a shower. 5. There are very cool activities throughout the season. 6. The buildings are always clean 7. They have a laundry room, just in case you don't have a lot of clothes, or you need to wash your clothes 8. The pool is clean and awesome 9. It is connected to the egg harbor river, so you can go tubing, canoeing, or kayaking there, and there is a lake that I personally like to jump in. 10. There are golf carts that can be used to navigate around the campground, and they are electric, so they are quiet (They don't allow gas powered golf carts) 11. There is a small arcade in the recreational room in the store. It is very fun and there is even a claw machine that stops when you get a prize! 12. They sell clothing, food, drinks, camping supplies, swimming gear, and more! Overall, I recommend coming to Winding River Campground. Fun fact: This campground was in a TV advertisement. I think this place deserves 0 stars. My family and I came here to go tubing and right from the start, I had a suspicion that it wasn't going to be fun. The campground is unorganized and has poor management. You have to figure out where to park, where to lead your family throughout the lazy river, and where to leave the tubes after tubing. One person told us one thing and another person, another thing. I was told that the maximum depth of the river was 4 feet but after my cousin had an almost near death experience from dodging large branches and fallen trees, he tipped and drowned for at least a minute. If I knew how rough the current and depth of the river were, I would have made sure everyone had a life vest on. Never go to this establishment. read more

This is a nice, family run business with the opportunity to go tubing & kayaking. Sites are nice, roomy with elec & sewer provided at some. Accommodations for tents & RVs. Sites are dirt so rainy days are a bit messy. Lots of trees around so it is shady. We had 3 adjoining sites & had a great time. My family rented 2 campsites 10/6/23 - 10/8/23. We paid $324 for 2 nights and stayed in Sites 1 & 2. Our group included 3 adults and 6 teenage boys. We live in Cape May County and have visited many different campgrounds. We won't be back to this campground for the following reasons: 1. This is not a family campground. 1. My family heard the word FUXK everywhere around the campground, every day, all day. It was rude and offensive. Where are the profanity rules? 2. Where are teen activities? My kids tried to use the pool table but the SEX TOY BINGO was taking place at the Game Room. I'm at a loss for words on this one. 3. There needs to be some rules around outside TV's. The Baseball and Football games were so overwhelming with yelling, screaming, profanity, etc. People should stay at home in their living room, or go to a sports bar to watch the game.....not Camping (we are in the woods for peace and serenity not screaming). This was over the top. 4. Bathrooms not cleaned and supplied with Toilet Paper. 5. Golf Carts: They're EVERYWHERE and think they own the place. 6. The atmosphere was not welcoming. My kids said everyone was mean and never want to come back. This is NOT a place designed for kids but for rude Adults who like to party in the woods. read more

This review is strictly on our kayaking experience. Came here on a Saturday morning the place was packed with families. Had a 30 minute wait to where we can start our trip, which is understandable. However, I wish they would of told us about the level of difficulty this river was going to be. The river itself is very narrow and for people who have only gone kayaking a few times before, it made it very difficult to navigate. On top of that, there were fallen trees, rocks where the kayak would get stuck, overgrown bushes and thorns. Instead of relaxing down the river, we were trying to get over and cross obstacles in our way. I'm not sure if this is something that can be fixed/ helped from the people who own the campground but a little clean up of the trees would make a HUGE difference in the overall experience for kayakers. Side note: If you're not an expert kayaker, don't come here. read more

DANGEROUS! Our whole family went kayaking on Sunday. There were trees down everywhere in the water & hanging over the river. With the current, it turned into a very unsafe & terrifying experience. 4 of the kayaks tipped, others slammed into the large trees hanging sideways over the river while having to shield the faces of our small children & my mom almost drowned as she got caught in the current under a kayak against a tree! They don't warn you of the conditions... they just have you sign a waiver before you go so they're not held responsible for any harm. Where is the integrity & concern for people? You get on the river (FURNACE) to be exact & sit on the river for 3-4 hours and literally you but sticks, stumps, and trees the whole way. Manager and some of the male staff degrading and hostile. I witnessed a male staff member abusing his child and when I tried to intervene I was told to mind my own business, swearing at me. I reported this to the manager who said, "I don't care, this is private property." When I told him that I am a mandatory reporter and therefore reported it to the police he became extremely hostile and told me to leave the next day and never come back. The minor things were the jacuzzi was filthy and the bathroom often out of toilet paper and soap. It is clean and a nice location and the amenities were a plus. That they harbor and promote child abuse negates all that. My stay was 2 weeks. read more

Today and yesterday the campground could not do tubing/kayaking due to the fast current and many trees being down due to the storm we had a few days ago. The family that owns this campground put the safety of others before there business which is very admirable since In the time we live in now you don't see that very often. I witnessed and heard of them helping many people who were stuck or flipped there tubes or kayaks. These were people not going out through the campground, but on there own. They didn't come and help these people because they had to but because they are caring people willing to help. Along with this campground being run by a very kinda family, The campground is also very clean and family friendly. I would definitely recommend for anyone's summer vacation or a close camping site for locals. You guys are awesome read more

This was my first time kayaking and I went with my boyfriend who had been a few times before. We tried this place for our first time and it was the worst experience ever. The price is great but when you get into a strange van and they drop you off at a random point of the river it seems odd. They didn't tell us where we would end up and there was no signs. We completely past the end point because there was no person or sign to tell you otherwise. Our 3 hour kayaking trip turned into 5 hour when we got lost and ended up in a lake. We had to paddle up to random persons backyard to ask for help. At this point we were thirsty, exhausted, and our tans were turning into sun burns. We tried to call them countless times and no one from the main office would pick up the phone. Thankfully we are locals and had someone we know come pick us up. This was my first year utilizing the campgrounds normally I only go tubing. I have no complaints for anything. The campsites were very clean and so were the bathrooms! The staff were the sweetest people I have ever met and made sure that everything we did on their campground was clearly explained! My boyfriend and I paid $67 for two tubes, and a cooler tube. We asked if we would need a paddle to push us off if we got stuck in any mucky stagnant water points, the friendly lady at the counter assured me it would not be necessary. However, she most likely has never tubed the coffee colored river-- given that we ended up in thorn bushes, wasps nests, and litter traps in the stagnant water with cob webs glistening on its surface. (Not to mention the 100s of fallen trees that damn near decapitated us at certain points.) I would be very surprised to see if this place continues to rent tubes out in the near future. Someone is going to get hurt. Of the three hour floating experience, I feel we maybe had 5-10 minutes of an actual good and relaxing experience. With that being said, stay away from the tubes and just kayak instead. My biggest regret is not reading others reviews of the tubing experience. Please beware. And do not take children! read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I am an out of town guest and I am a frequent tuber in the area that I am from and this is by far the ABSOLUTE worst place I have ever encountered. First, it took an hour and a half for them to get the tubes aired up and in the shuttle to take us to the river and by the time we put into the river we only had 3 hours and 30 minutes for our 3 hour float that we wanted to take our time and enjoy with family. We went about our trip on the river which overall wasn't that pleasant. At check-in the lady at the counter told us that we would have to bring our tubes up to the office, we understood that and went upon our way. When we got to the campground we did not realize that they meant this walk would be half a mile up a hill with our tubes and all of our belongings. We then asked workers if they could take the tubes and we would walk ourselves because we had both injured and elderly women with us. We were met with disrespectful responses from ALL of the employees and we were told about how drunk we were and how we were rednecks. I will never come to this place again because they have no respect for any costumer and I have no clue how they have been in business for 52 years with their disorganized and disrespectful business. read more

I've been here twice and had a blast both times. First time was on a weekend and the river was full of kayakers and tubers. People were having fun, drinking beers, and enjoying the day. Second time was a Monday in September, we had the Great Egg Harbor river all to ourselves! This made for a great day to chill out and relax. It was really peaceful, really quiet. Basically, you park and pay at the campground. Then you jump into a van which drives you a few miles up river. You sail back to the campground at your own pace. Just be sure to get back before 5 pm! I kayaked both visits but may choose to do the tube next time I go. The river itself is a bit of an obstacle course as there are quite a few fallen trees that you need to maneuver around as you go down stream. Nothing dangerous and the water is shallow but you may get stuck on occasion. There aren't many long stretches where you can kick back and enjoy the scenery without using the paddle. Wear sun screen even though most of the river is shaded. The rentals are a little pricey but not outrageous. Next time I'd like to do the three hour or maybe even the five hour tour if I have time to kill. read more

Maybe it isn't the best for tubing but for kayaking it was a great time. If you are looking for a place to just sit on a kayak and float this isn't it. The river is natural aka trees blow down in storms and branches/trees line the shore. It was an awesome obstacle and a great 5 hr (took us almost 7 after a pit stop and few times being stuck) trip. If the numbers we saw along the shore line were mile markers, i guess it would of been 11 mi but, we never figured out what they were. My friend and boyfriend both said they would go back along with myself. The only thing that was scary was the drive to the drop off where the driver was going to fast and almost rear ended someone who was turning, thank god for good brakes! Oh and when he went to go around someone without looking, not smart. But for a real kayaking trip this is probably the best river close by, a good challenge read more

This review is only about our tubing experience. The staff was friendly that signed us up. The drivers were fine taking us to the drop off location. At first glance, it looked like it was going to be a beautiful time. I have been tubing in the Delaware River many times and have always had a positive experience. We decided to try Winding River because it was closer to home. Never again! The issue was the river is so narrow and littered with downed trees. The trees are obstacles, but the banks are COVERED with holly trees and huge thorn bushes (at eye level). When tubing, you are at the mercy of the river, and most of our day was spend trying to free ourselves from the thorns digging into our arms, legs, and heads. My 11 year old daughter was scratched up so bad that she cried almost the entire trip down river. We couldn't get to the end fast enough. Like I said, this is no reflection on the staff, just don't go tubing here. It was a frustrating and dangerous experience. read more

This used to be a family friendly place, with average service, but it has gone way downhill this year. The campground had a group of over 20 rowdy drinkers who were up all night playing loud music until 4 am. It got so bad the police were involved. They became violent the second night, threatening my sister, so we took our kids and had to stay in a hotel. The management was unable to control these people, and ultimately defended them. We did not feel this was a safe campground for our children. We will never return. There are other nicer family friendly camp grounds nearby. Avoid this one if you want to feel safe. read more

I love this place! Been kayaking and camping here for almost 10 years now, and the staff is always very accommodating, the river trips are such a fun time, especially with large groups and the bathrooms and campground itself a super clean. This year they've updated their exit dock for the river making it a lot easier to get offshore. I hope to continue coming here for years to come! read more

Terrible! 5 girls and a dog. The amount of judgmental looks and snarky comments we've gotten is unbelievable. The only reason I'm giving a star is because the bathroom is actually pretty impeccable for a camp ground. Otherwise? Between getting hit on by the male employees, harassed by the grumpy old ladies, WHO WE TRIED TO BEFRIEND IN BINGO, the dead deer stench next to our campsite and THE FALSE ACCUSATION of our dog "attacking another" when he was never off leash to begin with: I'm done. My sister and a friend and I went on a July Saturday. Yes, we were asking for crowds but that was the only day we could go. I had 2 kayaks and we rented a third. We had to wait about an hour to get our boats on the trailer to the put in place. That was fine, it was a busy Saturday. Once we got on the water it never got better. It was continuous tubers, all relatively intoxicated, clogging the waterway. Not as backwoods-wild as I was expecting. We paddled past lots of back yards, could hear lots of traffic. In places it was real nice but not enough places. Next time I would try someplace a little further away and more remote into the Pine Barrens. read more

I went to this place last year very excited to go with my wife and in-laws. I consider myself pretty outdoorsy. Pretty busy place so that was a good sign. First I noticed very few people tubing, mostly canoes. Went to the porta potty behind the place. IT WAS OVERFLOWING WITH SEWAGE. So I held it and waited in the parking lot 45min. til the driver shows to take us. Barrels down the road taking us to the drop off point. (Glad we make it alive). Very pretty looking river with lots of tree cover so you wont burn on the river I thought. True but the next two hours was literally pushing off pricker bushes , being drawn toward pointy broken branches at FACE level,....it goes on. BEWARE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PIT FROM HELL!!! I decided to try something different while visiting the beaches in NJ, and tubing seemed like a cool thing to try....boy was I wrong!!! My biggest mistake was not reading these reviews before I left. So if you're reading this, please listen, because this is anything but joyous!!! The first strike was when they gave me the same size tube as my 2 skinny teenage daughters. I didn't realize they come in different sizes until the end, or how uncomfortable I would have to be for such a long time. Anyhow, so to begin, at first the water seemed nice and everything seemed ok, then shortly after our journey progressed, the river became more narrow and the obstacles became greater. There were tree branches everywhere...jutting out of the water like knives, dangling over your head with wasp nests, and slimy moldy branches on narrow water ways it was hard not to smash into them. So beyond that, the next problem was which way to go when the river would split. To the right or to the left? Sometimes they would connect, and sometimes the one would turn into a marshy swamp. And God forbid if you couldn't paddle your arms quick enough to stay out of the swamp!!! SO GUESS WHERE MOM ENDED UP??? YUP, you guessed it, IN THE MARSHY DISGUSTING SWAMP!!!!!....while my scared children floated down the river without me!!! I tried my best to paddle upstream but to no avail I had to face the dead end where a tree filled with moss and black slime prevented me from reaching the land. Which meant I couldn't go up, or down. And let's not forget that my children are haphazardly floating down the river scared for their life WITHOUT me!!!! I began to shake, I was so scared I positively did not know what to do. Finally I decided that I would venture over the slimy tree, barefoot and all. So I try to get close to the shore, only to flip my tube and find out there's no bottom that I could stand. So I ended up grabbing the tree and hoisted my body over it to the land. Of course I have no idea where to go or where my children are. I began to walk through the woods (in bare feet) trying to find the river, while screaming for my girls. Thank God they were able to grab a branch and stop from floating without me. Once I found the river, (mind you I am walking in the woods with no path), I frantically got back in my tube searching for my girls. Finally they saw me and left go of their branch so we could connect. We spent the rest of the journey connected. One in the middle holding feet and navigating, while myself and the older one paddling. At one point, we stopped to rest and pray together that we would survive the horrific event. We wanted to leave and walk back, but we knew that was not an option, especially because we had no idea where we were. Three hours of living hell and finally we found the end. Which is the final obstacle, getting out of the treacherous water!!! Yes, there are poles, and yes you have no idea where to exit. And If you're lucky, you won't fall back into the bottomless, disgusting pit while trying to leave. Our anger became so strong, my daughter screamed with revolt as she hoisted her body out of this pit. My other daughter and I finally maneuvered the same to get out. Please do yourself a favor and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! read more

OH MY GOD!! This was the tubing trip from hell! I brought my family for a relaxing tube ride down a river. This was their first experience, and hopefully (because of this) not their last. We got to the drop off destination in a van going around 70 mph with no seat-belts available. Once we got there, we were told that the life vests they brought with them would not fit both of our children. I asked, and they said that you could stand at certain points (shame on me for believing them). The tube ride wasn't a lazy river so much as an obstacle course filled with fallen trees, logs and branches that stick out of the water, thorn bushes which you are thrown into by the current, and a beehive which we barely missed (a kayaker ended up being stung 8 times). My family was split apart for most of the trip as we all got stuck at various points on the river. I thought that I could go ahead and get some help for my wife and daughter. There was no one to be found...not a checkpoint, not a person or a sign that said "your're almost there." Once I got to the end, I asked for someone to be sent out to help my wife and daughter. I was told that the tubers/kayakers behind them would help (meanwhile it had begun to rain with thunder). That ended up being the case, but C'mon!! They should have someone at points to help out. This may be good for kayaking and canoeing. It is not meant for tubing. read more

My friend and I visiting winding river for a girls camping trip. We were really excited to go tubing. Neither of us had gone before. We imagined floating and relaxing in our tubes on a nice river. Wow, we were so wrong! We first get in the river and it seems ok. As we start to go down the river, we realize we are on an obstacle course from hell. Down trees and branches everywhere. One girls tube popped! As you go down the river you are trying to avoid being pushed into the thorns or even bee hives! At points, you couldn't figure out which way to go, no signs or even check points. The girl at the office told us not to bring anything with us. We had no phones, no water, nothing. At some points the water was so shallow we had to stand up with our tubes to get around and others were so deep we couldn't stand. We were paddling for our lives and could not wait for it to be over! We were overjoyed when we saw the end. Getting out was interesting too since I banged my leg trying to get off my tube and up the ramp...no one there to help! Apparently the river is usually higher than it was. It would've been nice for them to tell you how low the water was and that it was going to be a difficult time maneuvering. Myself and 4 other people went tubing here yesterday. At first, when we got there, we were told that a cooler tube would be free with the rental of the tubes, but then they charged us $15 for it. Then, we asked for tubes with bottoms in them and we were basically given youth sized tubes. Then, we got dropped off at a different spot than we were told we would be getting dropped off at. As we went down the river, it was incredibly hard to navigate through all of the logs and debris - especially in the tubes that were 3x too small for us! We were all partially submerged in the water in the tubes we were given. Our 3 hour trip turned into a 4 hour struggle. We are all so sore from paddling the whole way. Tubing is supposed to be relaxing.. this trip was not relaxing. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because they didn't charge us a late fee when we arrived back with the tubes at 5:20 instead of 5:00. Next time, I will rent tubes from a different place, on a different river that has less 'obstacles' in it. read more
