Don has been a pleasure to work with. When I had several contractors come in and give estimates, he was the only one to take his time and explain the different ways to properly renovate my space. He has years of experience and knows just about everything there is to know about a home. Not only that, he's a very nice and communicative person, and takes the time to explain anything you might have questions about, which is helpful for a first-time renovator like myself. Don and his team completed an extensive project in my UES Manhattan apartment replacing doors (closet, bedroom and bathroom) to beautiful solid wood ones. Don is an amazing contractor who is deeply knowledgable about every possible aspect of building out a space. After hearing horror stories of New York contractors and renovations that never end, we are thrilled that we found someone who is personable, meticulous, and clearly cares deeply about the quality of his work. We hired Don to do several renovations in our new condo--putting on a fresh coat of paint, renovating a bathroom, replacing some floorboards, installing a new dishwasher, changing out hardware. From the get-go, Don demonstrated his eye for the most minute details that we would have otherwise overlooked. Don McLean is a creative perfectionist who took our ideas for a full renovation and turned them into something special. He brings both years of construction experience and an artist's eye to his work. His craftsmanship is impeccable - the tiling was done perfectly, as were new, enlarged door frames and doors, as were special niches he built to disguise our TV and to improve the functionality and look of our entry way. He found space behind walls to put in two closets - a near miracle in a Manhattan apartment. Just as important, he finished our renovation when he said he would, on time, in budget. He even did a great dusting/sweeping/floor washing when the job was done. Renovation often comes down to a series of problems that need to be solved. Don solved a problem with the placement of a gas pipeline by re-arranging our kitchen appliances, which ended up making more sense. He solved a problem that looked like it would prevent us from having a niche in a shower by moving the pipes in a creative way. He took extra wood from our new floors and created a wall of wood. In everything we did, he provided sage advice and a willingness to go the extra mile. He told us how to get the wiring we wanted from Verizon, which Verizon wasn't eager to do. He told us how to get the best stereo for a wall installation. He even suggested a camera for my daughters to buy to take the most detailed photos. I couldn't be happier with the work Maclean Creative did in our apt. They virtually turned a "junior four" into a full 2-bedroom, 2-bath apt, thereby raising the value of our property considerably. We had major work done on what was originally a powder room, adding a full shower and expanding counter space. In the master bath, he expertly installed a stackable washer/dryer unit (and creatively camouflaged them from sight) where an unused tub originally existed. He expanded my former galley kitchen area by installing a wrap-around counter and opening up the entrance space. In my son's room, he installed a pocket door for privacy, painted and helped me redecorate with creative touches that transformed the room. Don works within your budget and is very artistic.
