High class prices and foods.....low class customer service! I drove 50 miles roundtrip from Oakland to their store in Danville on Saturday afternoon to purchase premium sandwiches for a party we were having. At 3PM I attempted to order 6 sandwiches from the deli department....the guy working there said he was out of rolls! What? Out of rolls at only 3PM? How can ANY huge supermarket run out of rolls? So, I went over to their bread department and found some rolls. He then told me he can not use rolls from their own bread dept to make sandwiches. I made it clear to him I was willing to pay extra for the rolls but he said he couldn't do it. So I went and got the store manager on duty, a nice fellow named John. John was very apologetic about having run out of rolls and he also agreed that his staff should have made my sandwiches with bread from the bread department, given they prematurely ran out of rolls. He went over and spoke to the woman behind the deli counter. She told the Manager that they never said they wouldn't make the sandwiches from alternative bread, it was just that I did not say I would be paying extra for that bread! That was not the truth. When I said to her directly you are not speaking truth to your manager and I said do not put words into my mouth, she insisted I never told the guy back there I'd pay extra for the bread! Who needs such confrontations and frustrations over sandwiches after driving 25 miles each way to buy some? I walked out. We will never be shopping at Lunardi's market again. They sure know how to apply excessive high prices to their goods while at the same time not providing any exceptional customer service! That store has some major issues with their staff and attitude problems. This is the fault of upper management not instructing their underlings what a "premium store experience" should feel like. I certainly could have gotten a more customer friendly, positive experiences from any local Dollar Store, compared to the circus I received at Lunardi's Saturday! read more

The butcher counter has decent cuts of meat, if you don't mind dealing with the rude butchers. My butcher today rolled his eyes at me when I asked if I could have a pork steak cut off of a pork butt that was about the width of a 12 inch ham slicing knife. Any butcher worth their salt, should know what that is. He huffed and puffed, and said "tell me inches." I told him 1 1/2 inches. He rolled his eyes again and said "there you go buddy!" I told him to forget it. They offer full service butchery, but they will hate you if you ask for anything. If you want that kind of attitude for overpriced choice beef and the same Swift Pork you can get at any grocery store then you will love it here. read more

Grocer/ market located in the heart of Downtown Danville. The vibe at this place is unique in that it feels like a small town market even though the size of the place matches other supermarket chains. The people here are friendly and helpful. The aisles feel organized and clean. I thought it was pretty easy navigating this place and finding all the stuff we needed. Came here with my parents during the holidays to grab some items for our big family holiday meal. The produce seemed very high quality and there were even some great deals around the produce area. There was even a pretty impressive area for spirits (especially whiskey) with a fun display with some vintage decanter bottles. Overall, this place feels like it's as good as it gets when it comes to a shopping experience. The parking lot felt plentiful and easy to navigate. It's been awhile since I ate a Lunardi's sandwich. I decided to try a two meat sandwich and some potato salad. I'm not sure what bread they use now but back in the day I think they were Maggoria Bakery or Acme Bakery both excellent rolls. I ordered a sandwich with Mortadella, Ham, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, Onions and Mayo. The sliced meats tasted good and the veggies were fresh. The sweet roll tasted a bit on the dry side. I think Lunardi's is using a different bakery since Maggoria is no longer in business. The SF Potato Salad was good. I'm not sure but I don't think Lunardi's makes that potato salad there. The sandwich was $11.99 which is very good for what you get. I plan to go there again and try maybe a Sourdough or Dutch Crunch Roll. For a tasty sandwich or other cold or hot food, swing by and try one of the many available dishes. read more

Years ago, I went in to buy a bottle of fiji water. I buy my water, cashier asks if i want my receipt. I say "no" it's a bottle of water. I then proceed to walk towards the exit and get stopped by some little baboon (not a security guard or anything just some guy who works there. Who says "do i wanna pay for that" i was baffled and confused. I simply say "i did pay for it" where then he asks for my "receipt". A policy that was clearly not enforced on anyone else. I told him the cashier would clear my name. And i wave her over and she does. No apology, nothing. I've never in my life been treated so poorly. I was a 25 at the time and every time i drive past this place i get upset. This is place is for only rich entitled people and everyone gets treated like crap. read more

Not sure what happened here but customer service is amiss. My husband came here a few weeks ago with our young child. He was juggling a restless child and carrying groceries we needed in a basket and the cashier looked at him and then called the person behind him over instead. It was clear that the cashier skipped him on purpose, not sure why, but he was so upset he just put all the stuff back and left. If it was me, I would have said something, but hubby doesn't want to cause a scene. Do better, Lunardi's! read more

Deli workers, at least the regular ones, are consistently surly. My husband asked for 2 sandwiches, one with no pickles but pepperoncini. As it was busy at the deli counter, he kept an eye on the sandwiches while he waited for the other items. As we walked away, one of the female deli workers shouted at us to bring back the sandwiches because she claimed we took someone else's. She asked if ours had a marker mark on it... yeah it did, because ALL of the sandwiches made at the same time had a marker note on it, stating what the order was. She tried arguing with him again and he explained that he'd kept an eye on our order the entire time, keeping all items in one pile on the countertop and made sure there wasn't a mixup. She tried arguing again, at which point we turned and headed to the cash register because we were now running late due to her ridiculousness. At our picnic in Napa.......I opened my sandwich. Not only were there no pepperoncinis, it was riddle with pickles, which I loathe. I got through a few bites before losing my appetite. Also, the fact that we were charged $14 for a sandwich with a piddly amount of meat. It's a shame because I've had good/great sandwiches from here before, but this was just insulting. The cashiers were nice and polite, but the deli workers can be really hit or miss. It's not like I don't know what it's like to work in the service industry, as I've been in service roles for 30+ years. In my opinion, if you hate your job, don't take it on the customer. Product presentation is excellent. Butchers are great. Checkout process continues to make little sense: during Covid they seemed to move to one line. No one knows where to stand. I've even witnessed an aggressive argument between customers based on the confusion. The checkers, in general, are unfriendly. Opposite of Trader Joe's. You feel as though checking one out is an inconvenience. The high school kids are much nicer. Prices are high. Wine prices are generally outrageous. I recall stopping to get Carpano Antica vermouth. What was like $28 at Costco, and $35 BevMo, was $48. Unacceptable. They are missing a golden opportunity to be a wine destination. We all want them to be successful. They can take some simple steps to be the go-to local store. read more

Lunardi's Markets reminds me of a Metropolitan Market merged with a Safeway. It's not quite as fancy as a Whole Foods and it's a step down from Andronicos, but it does have a few fancy brands while still carrying Pepsi and Coca Cola. My only complaint is that they didn't have a self checkout, which has become - if not a hard requirement, a strong reason we visit the stores we do. The service was prompt and the aisles were easy to navigate. Overall, for a local downtown grocery store it was a solid 4 stars. read more

It's a huge modern grocery store with a friendly small-town atmosphere. They have the standard as well as gourmet and specialty brands of groceries. The people here are very friendly and helpful. Whenever we visit family in the East Bay, Lunardi's is a must-stop. read more

Poor customer service and no concern for allergies. I went to purchase a muffin for my toddler. It looked like a simple bran muffin with cranberries. $3.99. I asked the woman behind the bakery counter if it had nuts, she told me it did not. She said only the banana nut muffin has nuts. I bought the muffin and continued to push my son around in the shopping cart. I fed my son a few bites of muffin and took a bite myself and noticed a small bite of walnut. I returned to the counter to ask for an ingredient list. They didn't have one. They showed minimal concern for the fact that my son who is allergic to nuts just ate a muffin with nuts. The apparent bakery manager attempted to call the place where they get the muffins, but no answer. I took the muffin home as they did not care enough to make sure I left happy with a non allergenic muffin. I cut the muffin open and it's filled with nuts. So disappointing that they could be so CARELESS to not even list MAJOR ALLERGENS. I understand simple mistakes. Had they showed a little more concern or tried to make things right I would not be home fuming over a nut muffin writing this review. The dude and I came to Lunardi's Market on 07/03/21 as we needed to grab some travel snacks and water. It was about 10 minutes to closing and we were still greeted by staff. We didn't get to explore much due to being on a time crunch. It was very clean inside and organized for sure. They have a bakery section which was cool, deli and all other departments just like any other super market. The workers were very nice and patient we didn't feel rushed at all. I love the cute little bags that they had which made the shopping experience even more unique in Danville. The young men bagged our stuff and very polite. There's ample parking. Which we parked in this plaza a few times as it's open to park not just for the super market. Overall, we would definitely come back here and check out this store again! I've been a loyal Lunardi's shopper for years! Mostly at Lunardi's #6 in Walnut Creek. But this year, my good luck New Year's Day osso bucco almost didn't happen! Normally, I order my meat weeks in advance, but after my favorite butcher retired, I left it until the last minute and Lunardi's #6 did not have any osso bucco. I called every meat shop in the East Bay on December 28... and nothing. None. Zip. Panic mode activated! Then I called Robert at Lunardi's #9. He promised he could have my osso bucco order ready on December 30. I dashed to the store morning (before the rush). Robert was warm, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure I could stick to my traditional menu. I left over the moon with my order perfectly ready, and my New Year's Day meal saved! Huge thanks to Lunardi's #9 and especially Robert for making me feel like family and keeping my good luck tradition alive. Five stars, no question! read more

I love Lunardi's sandwiches and especially the Turkey Avocado on sour dough roll. They usually make the sandwiches to your specifications. Their sandwiches also taste better with a bowl of soup. Lunardi's offers many cold cut sandwiches and so far I had roast beef, pastrami, turkey and tuna. They all were excellent. The prices are very reasonable. Compared to other places. My sandwich without the cheese is about $12.99 Compared to $16 to $19 elsewhere. The soup is priced separate. Try it, you will go back; I guarantee it. read more

We've been grocery shopping at our neighborhood Lunardi's more frequently as of late. I like how they are nestled between two large parking lots in the heart of downtown Danville, and walking distance to excellent restaurants like Albatross and Cielito. Overall, I'm liking Lunardi's more than While Foods, Trader Joe's, Lucky's, and Safeway. My review breakdown: Veggie Section: Wow - super organized and all the veggies, regular and organic are fresh looking. We especially like the dirt-free spinach, green kale, and scallions here. Much better quality veggies than 99 Ranch. Meat Department: Friendly and helpful staff here and huge selection, especially for beef and pork. I bought a gorgeous 1.25 lb skirt steak for a stir-fry and it was packed nicely, pre-cut into uniform width, and well marbled. I wished they had leaner ground pork, but otherwise a great meat section. Fish/Seafood Section: Sorry - no U.S. market can compete with 99 Ranch here. Limited selection here and slim pickings for frozen filets. General: I like the cleanliness of the store, friendly staff, and relatively fast cashier lines. They have onsite restrooms near the Forge-side entrance which is convenient. read more

The fish and meat are the top in the area. The service in the meat/fish dept. is 5 stars and has been the best for decades. The bakery dept. is o.k if you can get somebody to notice you at the counter. The wine dept. is lacking as the lady is too busy on her phone to help customers with questions. They have a bakery an old fashioned meat and fish counter so you can look and pick what you want. The produce is the best I have seen in awhile. We got some great deals. The prices can be high, but here you really do get what you pay for. Great quality products and groceries. We were in the area and decided to stop by. This place is not to big but not too small. They have an amazing bakery and a lot of fun stuff. The there is a lot of unique things here. A lot of fruits and vegetables but they are kind of pricey. The meat looks amazing here. They have a lot of vegan options here too. We got some frozen tamales and they were really good. We got the best vanilla ice cream. Definitely will be returning for vanilla ice cream. read more

It's a beautiful store. However, pricey. Think Whole Foods with a local feel, although there's 6 other locations in NoCal. Besides the plethora of the norm, they offer stations with warm food for takeaway, sandwich bar, a bakery, a pizza restaurant (albeit closed when I shopped, darn) -- but the crème de la crème is the meat counter. OMG! The other sections that I liked: fruit and veggies, and oh yeah -- the wine! Prices are 25% higher than you'll find at Safeway or Lucky's, but it really was a lovely shopping experience. The Lunardi's Meat department is a critical Danville resource that must be protected and cherished - like Yosemite or Tahoe's blue waters. I order a 60+ pound pig from Robert every year and he butterflies and preps it to perfection for me and helps me load it in the car without fail - see pics. There is no wet aged, prepackaged meat at Lunardi's. Nay, the IMMENSE meat, poultry, and seafood section (which spans about 75% of the back wall of the store) is a beautifully curated menagerie of beautiful cuts laid carefully every morning on ice "the way the used to do it." The result for you is high quality meat, cuts and selections you cannot find anywhere, and a platoon of expert butchers and fish mongers that provide qyou personal service and answer and guide you to the right cuts for whatever you need. They aren't intimidating, they are all very attentive, and just yesterday I witnessed an old man walk up and ask "I need to make ribs for 4 people, what do I get?"and he was carefully guided through his choices of portions, cuts, and preparations until he walked away with 2 baby back racks and a huge smile. You aren't going to get that conversation at Costco, sorry. They have more types of sausage and brats anywhere. All sorts of house made bacon. House dry aged steaks of caveman proportions. Veal! Lamb! LIVE LOBSTER! Damn, writing this makes me wanna go there now to be recommend an entree to make for dinner. Go talk to Robert or any of his genuinely nice butchers.
