It's been awhile since I've come to this location, but I've never had any problem. They are always friendly, the food has always been hot, and there's normally minimum messes. Removing 2 stars. Evwrythibgs changed - and .the place seems like it changed ownership. Greek salad was made with leaf lettuce. Gteek salad is hearts of romaine or iceberg. That was not a greek salad. At all. Corned beef on rye was leather tough and dry. Fries changed...pretty much everything.and not for the better. First of all I want to point out the CORONAVIRUS is still growing in St. Joseph County, Indiana! The only people wearing masks were the people behind the counter & sometimes they were half way down their face. While waiting for our order we noticed the same person that took our payment also went out & picked up USED trays & cleaned them off with her bare hand & went back to taking money. NO WASHING OF HER HANDS! NO one inside was wearing masks so we got out of there as soon as our order came. Plus no one was wiping off tables, benches or chairs as their clients left the restaurant. We ordered the tenderloin sandwiches in hopes of finding a hand breaded pan fried tenderloin & a order of onion rings. Unfortunately we got a typical deep fat fried tenderloin that you can buy @ any grocery store in Mishawaka & some tiny greasy onion rings that looked & tasted more like those onion rings you buy in a bag at the convenience store. The only reason we tried this place is because of all the 5 star ratings which must be friends of the owners. Will I be back, probably not. We stopped in for a lunch on a recent Sunday afternoon after hearing some rave reviews and Windy City did not disappoint! We ordered the Italian Beef and Gyro Plate. The Gyro plate alone was plenty of food for two people to share. My husband loved the Italian Beef and thought it was much better than Portillo's when it came to taste, price and size - easily twice the amount of meat compared to Portillo's. It was small, the corned beef was not quality deli meat, it was dry,dry,dry...so assumed it was several days too old. The meat was super crinkly, looked extremely shriveled. Did the cook microwave a corned beef sandwich?? And they put yellow mustard on a corned beef. Not brown mustard. Personally, I think they should ask a person if they want mustard at all. Yellow is for hot dogs, not corned beef sandwiches. The rye bread was small and pretty tasteless. Surprised they are not using a quality rye bread. This is the best gyros place in town! They have all kinds of Chicago style foods. The hot dogs are well prepared and ketchup free! The gyro plate is well laid out and the meat, onions, and pita are moist and warm. The customer service is good and the people are polite and always cleaning. The bathrooms are clean. The dining area is clean as well and has plenty of seating. The place adorned with Chicago memorabilia and the music is either Sinatra which really sets the mood. What an unassuming small place serving up some great food. Driving through Indiana didnt expect to find a gyro place but found this place and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad it did. The gyro was excellent. For $6 for the regular gyro it was huge. Generous portion of meat that was perfectly seasoned and not dry at all. The pita was hot and fresh. The veggies were also fresh and the tzadziki sauce was on point. Coming from the east coast it reminded me of the halal carts in the city serving up the same kind of awesome food. Also avoid ordering thru a delivery service bc when something is off they just push you off to the delivery service instead of handling it or switching delivery servicers of which they had complaints about. However, I have eaten some things here before that were good hence the 3 stars mainly for the way it was handled and a few messed up items including a topping less burger that requested toppings. read more

Just had a very frustrating experience with WCG. Placed an order for delivery, a junior gyro meal. Will include screen shot for proof of order. Order was received without fries, so I called to let them know. Instead of apologizing for the mistake or saying we will throw in fries next time the worker proceeded to argue that I didn't order the meal and only the gyros, but they just Randomly threw in a drink to be nice? This is my first try here. My friends raved about it. The lady at the counter was friendly but hard to understand as she spoke very fast. So far I'm not impressed. The people making the food in the back need to stop talking and messing around and make the food. I waited over 20 minutes then on top of that the people that came in 5 -7 minutes after me got there food first. There was no one ahead of me. I guess if you are friends of the people that work there it doesn't matter were you are in line you get bumped like I did. My order was small and there's was much larger. So you are telling me it takes less time to make the order than mine. I also do not like to be upsold. I didn't ask for extra meat but I did ask for Feta with my meal. They do give you a good size piece of feta. Of course I was told it was .50 cents but it turned out being $1.00 dollar The pita part of the sandwich should of been bigger as the small one that they gave me was to small with the extra meat that they upsold me. It's very hard to eat this without getting sauce all over your hands. $10.15 was kind of expensive for a Gryo combo. The next time I will not allow them to upsell to me. King Gryo I believe is cheaper. I don't usually eat this kind of food but wanted to try this place since my friends recommended it. I may go back again one of these days. I ate the Italian Beef & Sausage Combo which, ironically, is not available as a "Combo." No big, just funny. Portion size was what you'd expect... plenty. The beef, bread, & sweet peppers were nothing special & the sausage was dry. I asked for it "wet," which it wasn't & that MIGHT have helped make the sausage less dry. My friend ordered the Chicago Dog and his comment was "OK but this is NOT a Chicago Dog... just sayin. You can't call it "Chicago" just because you left off the ketchup. Drag it through the garden!" Sport peppers (plural), slices of tomato (plural), onion, relish, mustard, poppy seed bun (c'mon man), and Celery Salt (bam) on a Vienna Beef dog is It. That's the canon. If you want to depart from that, go for it... just don't call it "Chicago Style." Other friend ordered the gyros & it was OK... "they should break up the feta, ...the fries suck." They get 3 stars instead of "Meh" 2-star review because the portions & price are fair and the girls at the front counter were very friendly, patient, & courteous. AND free WiFi. The quality & authenticity are what is lacking. King Gyros on 933, near Cleveland Rd, sets the bar for gyros in this area & WC doesn't reach it. Even Sonic makes a better Chicago Dog but Waka Dog rocks it. I don't know if there is another place around here to get Italian Beef or a Beef/Sausage Combo but there WILL be, soon. :) Windy City is young... they might turn the ship around before Portillo's arrives. read more

Had an excellent gyros sandwich here and a likewise excellent (Chicago style) Italian Beef sandwich. The place makes really good food and is a distinctive offering in this particular regional location. The menu mixes Greek and Italian-American items in roughly equal balance. Chicago hot dogs, as well, which I have yet to try. I hope the people standing in line at Chipotle or going to nearby Arbys or Culver's will give this place a try. It's a building set back unfortunately far from Main Street, between GNC and Culver's. Support an independent, local business that does good stuff. read more

My husband and I read the article in the South Bend Tribune this last weekend about this new restaurant. We both love gyros and my husband is somewhat of an expert on Chicago hot dogs. So we decided to spend our one-night-a-week eating out calories on this new adventure. I order the chicken gyros. This, I assumed, was a gyro with seasoned chicken. But instead it was chicken, some kind of sauce, lettuce and tomato on gyro bread. It had little flavor. The final blow of this menu selection was the chicken bone I bit into. Then, in the second bite, I found yet another bone. I quietly took my entrée up to the counter and showed the manager the bone. Even she was surprised as she said there shouldn't be bone in breast meat. So she made me a regular gyro and replaced it free of charge. The gyro meat was plentiful and savory and bread was great. But the additional toppings were sparse. My husband's opinion of the hot dogs were that they were the best in the area, but fell short of true Chicago hot dogs. He gave it a 6 out of 10. Fries were good and the price, $15.91, was more than reasonable for two hot dogs, two drinks, fries and a gyro. We were not overly impressed. Not sure we'd return. As far as gyros, we like King Gyros. As far as Chicago hot dogs, well, my husband prefers Portillo's in Chicago. read more

It's my new favorite restaurant when in the Main St Mishawaka area. I believe it's family owned. It has a large variety of different foods besides Gyros. A lot of Chicago favorites. So far I've had the Gyros, Chicago dogs and the Italian Beef. All very good though I would recommend steamed poppy seed hot dog buns instead of the regular steamed bun that my Chicago dogs were served with. The servings are generous, the prices fair and service friendly and quick. The interior is clean, modern and well kept. Next time I think I'll try their pork tenderloin. read more
