This diner has all the nostalgic vibes and the food to match. Our server knocked it out, keeping our coffee hot and delivering us with answers for all our questions both the town and diner. She warned that the pancakes were huge, and we were happily still somehow surprised at their size. Also, the jalapeño sausage...mmmmmm.

Came here to eat before we were going to tailgate before the Notre Dame game against NIU. Small diner with lots of bar seating and was very busy when we arrived, but it goes pretty quick and we were able to get seated fairly quickly. Staff was nice, attentive, knowledgeable and personable. Portions are decent for the price. We couldn't even eat it all, so we took it to go and they have nice specials, just ask! My husband got the Mexican skillet and the sauce had a kick to it that we didn't expect, but we enjoyed it very much. I got the typical all American breakfast that included eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage links and French toast. In addition to a side of corned beef Hash that was also delicious. It was savory, with a hint of saltiness and the hashbrowns were cooked crispy. Not far from the stadium either. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area before a game, or any game. We also enjoyed that though it was small, it wasn't really loud in there and ambiance was pleasant.

    Omelets for lunch.

Omelets were about an average grade. Not bad, not great. The small diner had a classic late 1960s - early 1970s feel. Staff was friendly.

Good breakfast food in a small friendly neighborhood diner. Teeny tiny place where it would best if you're an extrovert and not afraid of getting close to people you don't know as it is LITTLE! But the staff are all amazing and the coffee is delicious. I had the 3meat skillet topped with eggs...well-seasoned. My daughter had the chicken fried steak with country gravy and she CLEANED her plate! For her this was huge as she seldom eats everything on her plate... If you need a good home cooked breakfast while visiting south bend this would be a great choice

I've had many pancakes in my life, and I can honestly say without a moments hesitation that the JEANNIE'S pancake is the greatest pancake in the world. You absolutely must try it. Not to mention friendly service, and an ambiance filled with character. Enjoy.

Fantastic food and service, and price. It's a nice little hidden gem for sure! Don't miss out on this place.

We were on our way home from Michigan and got hungry and decided to stop somewhere for breakfast. I went to yelp and as soon as I saw this was a diner atmosphere I was sold. I love that we could sit at a bar top and watch our food get prepared right in front of us. Portion sizes were HUGE and everything was amazing. Our server was phenomenal and so sweet. If we lived close by we would be here every weekend.

Exceptional service and good diner fare from the flattop make this a hidden jewel close to IUSB. We stopped in for a quick bite not knowing if we would even be seated at 930 on a Sunday. But...there was one table left for the two of us. Very clear they are short handed on staff and doing the best they can. We waited about 45 minutes for the food to arrive but it was fine. We weren't in a hurry and the pleasant nature of the table service made it all worthwhile. Breakfast was very generous and my stomach and wallet both left happy. Certainly would come back here if in the area.

Delicious as always! The food is amazing and the homemade jam is delicious. Staff is friendly and always smiling.

I was in town and found this place thanks to Yelp. It's a local, family diner. It has some booths and a large counter. Service was prompt and friendly. We both ordered omelettes. Waitress offered homemade jam - strawberry rhubarb, peach or blueberry. That was so good to add to my homemade biscuit. Omelette and potatoes were also very good. Numerous coffee refills. I even bought some homemade cookies for $1 each to take with me. Highly recommended!

I believe the workers work for tips, at least Ja'Lila does who served us. During our hour there we observed a mix of folks coming in. Some were obviously regulars chatting it up with Ja'Lila while they sipped their drink. Another couple on a road trip stopped in on their way to the east coast for some coffees and to use the WiFi. Some were in and out. Steady flow. Everyone treated with respect and dignity whether you made a donation or not. Donations are pay what you want. I'm not a coffee drinker but my sister said it's good! I got hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is homemade and I got fresh whipped cream which was also homemade. Delicious! Can you get that at Starbucks? Just asking I wouldn't know. I no longer lived in South Bend but if I did this would be my new spot. My sister does however and she's already been back before I had a chance to post my review. If you're a local and you remember the old VanBuren grocery store this is the spot! The smoothies are pretty good. I think I've had the Orange Sunrise and the Bangin' Berry. I'll probably try more, but of those two, the Orange Sunrise is better, hands down. I've never had breakfast here, but they do offer Quorn substitutes for anything that comes with chicken, so there are plenty of vegetarian options for a place with such a limited menu to start with. It's located in the Duncan Student Center, which is the building they attached to the west side of the football stadium. The cafe is near the north entrance. There's lots of seating, but some of the stools are annoying tall ones, which seem to be all the rage these days, even though they're uncomfortable. The good thing about the tall stools is that they have these special metal baskets at the bottom so that you have somewhere to put all your junk while you're eating. I can see this coming in handy when the weather's bad, which it often is in South Bend; you don't have to sit against your wet and/or cold coat.

I don't view this as an actual coffee shop but more of a quick service establishment. The pastry proportions sometimes disappoint me because they are more expensive than they should. I think that ABP in Hesburgh library serves better coffee, and it's worth the short walk over there.

There is a rack of chips and cooler for drinks. Chicken and sausage jambalaya soup: Meh, I probably wouldn't order it again. It didn't taste very fresh nor flavorful. Chili dog with cheese: This is a Tuesday special. This was not very good, but I wasn't expecting it to be. It was edible, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. I probably wouldn't order this again. I did get vegetables (carrots and celery) as a side though, which were good. Chicken tenders: Typical chicken tenders. Three pieces, which was a reasonable size. The inside seemed more like processed meat, like the chicken nuggets you get at McDonalds, rather real chicken that was fried, as you couldn't see the individual strands of meat. Came with mac & cheese. Mac & Cheese: This came with the chicken tenders. It was surprisingly good! The cheese flavor was strong. I would have liked some Sriracha with it, but there was only Tabasco-style sauce. Cornbread: I initially thought this was okay, albeit a bit dry. My friends didn't think it was good. I tried some cornbread at another place and realized how bad the cornbread was here. It was horribly dry sand bland; it almost felt like eating soft sand. I would probably eat here again because of its close location, but I don't think it's anything special as of now.
