Windy Hill Orchard and Cidery is a small cidery about an hour outside Charlotte area. Our first visit to a cidery and we were excited! Small parking lot, but we were there earlier in the day so it was chill, not a lot of people. Check their site and social media for the days and hours when they are open! Cute place to explore, take some photos. They don't have animals around, my mom in law visited a few years back when they had some around. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy fun food and drinks. We started with a cider fight, a fun way to try everything, some were just OK, more like Kombucha, some had better taste like the peach infused one and the blueberry based one. I am not a huge hard cider person, but this was fun. They make cider cinnamon donuts in house, so we bought a 6 donut batch, on the smaller side, but nice flavor, soft. We got some regular cider (it was carbonated) and a couple of fried apple pies, all good. We also got some cider to go, which we enjoyed later, very fresh and natural. They have lots of jellies to buy here and fruit butters, great selection. Nice customer service, clean portable toilets, a relaxing place. It surely gives you that country feel! Nice place to check out if you live/visit the area. Great seasonal goodies for everybody!

I've made a point to visit Windy Hill for the last two years during the fall. It is about an hour drive outside of Charlotte but the environment is well worth it. I enjoy the live band music, apple picking, farm store, hard cider flights, and delicious apple donuts. Every weekend during the fall this place seems packed which makes sense due to the variety of activities, family friendly nature, and great service.

We went this past fall and our visit was just okay. It was a little lackluster. We visited mid-day on a Saturday and they were pretty busy. Parking is pretty tight. Be sure to look for the overflow parking (look for the signs) Although they were busy, the line moved pretty quickly. There is plenty of seating and port-a-potties available. We tried their classic cider and cinnamon sugar donuts. Both were really good. We then tried their flight of hard ciders, which I also enjoyed. They offer a kids apple juice but we brought our own. While the orchard is "Family friendly", it's not really kid friendly. We easily maneuvered our stroller, however, there just isn't much for kids to do. The Hayride is $3 per person (under 2 free), but it literally just goes in a very quick loop of the orchard. Nothing exciting at all. Also, there was no apple picking allowed. This was a pretty quick trip for us and I'm not sure it was worth the drive.

The Aesthetic: Family-friendly apple orchard with apple picking, cider, treats, and a live music picnic area. The Price: The orchard is free to enter, and the activities such as apple picking and cider tasting are paid extras. The cider flight we shared was reasonable for the high quality cider the workers produce. The Parking: There is plenty of parking in front of the orchard, and in a large lot nearby that takes about 5 minutes to walk to. My Order: I shared a cider flight with my lover to check out all the different flavors. Our favorites were the Ginger Gold and Rusty Gold, they tasted like the holidays and were so refreshing. We also shared one of the hot apple cider donuts, and it was okay, a bit on the sweet side for us. The Conclusion: I would highly recommend this orchard if you're looking for a fun Fall family day!

Rainy day and they wouldn't allow the MANY patrons to use them so you either sat in the rain in leave. We left. Won't be back

What more can you ask for on a cool morning like this. Apples and more apples fixed different ways at Windy Hill. We came in to try the cider and donuts today. The sample cider flight had a variety of different flavors from sweet to fall spice perfect for this pre fall weather. They give you a nice size for $14.50, not bad for a feel-good feeling. Lol, I can't forget about those apple donuts, light and tasty dipped in cinnamon/sugar. Just right! I'm mad we only got a 6 pack they definitely did not make it to the car. I even had the urge to try the fried apple pie. Damn, it was good, too. Oh, yea, you can also pick apples for $7 a person, but you need rsvp beforehand. They stay booked up, so book today for a few weeks down the line. You can thank me later with a like. There is plenty of parking if you start your trip there soon as they open.

Windy Hill Orchard is literally in the middle of nowhere, but was it worth the 1 hour drive from Charlotte? Absolutely! What is the best part of fall season? Well, for me, it's apple cider & apple cider donuts! I love love love love apple cider donuts, more than any other donut flavor. I am obsessed. I grew up in NJ, and there just happened to be a state wide known farm that was literally down the street from me, and I had the luxury of driving only 1 min to get the scrumptious donuts. So, when I found out that the closest apple cider donuts to CLT was 1 hour, I knew it would be a long drive, but I had to go. Once we were there, the entire place itself was kinda small. There were multiple spots to order cider and donuts, but other than that and apple picking, there wasn't much else to do. My husband and I opted for 2 hard ciders instead of a flight since we're both not really hard cider type of people. I personally enjoy non-alcoholic apple cider than hard. We also got a 1/2 dozen apple cider donuts which were warm and SO soft. We sat under the shade near the band for an hour ish, and wished there was more to do. We opted out of apple picking but would have enjoyed some yard games like cornhole, big jenga, connect 4, or something. I guess that would be my one recommendation for this place. Other than that, it was a good afternoon spent.

The cidery is a cozy place with bonfires and apple orchards, but the orchard we out of season(sad face). It has a rustic feel and is perfect for people who love cider. They have lots of different ciders that taste sweet or crisp. The staff is friendly and can help you try different flavors. Whether you really like cider or just want to try it, this place has yummy drinks with unique flavors. Plus, their donuts are soft, warm, and delicious! It's a great spot for a tasty and fun experience.

So cute and a lovely ambiance! The non-alcoholic apple cider was delicious. The donuts were pretty good too, but they almost tasted more like churros than donuts (not that I'm complaining).

Windy Hill is the place to be for fall vibes! We came on a chilly/drizzly weekday in mid-November (which happened to be my birthday), so it was very laid back with not many people around since it wasn't the season for apple picking. The two of us shared a hard cider flight, and we really enjoyed the various flavors! My faves were probably the Gala Peach and the one that tasted like Christmas (Rusty Gold). The rotating flavor when we went was pomegranate, which was fun to try and a pretty color. We also bought a half dozen pack of cider donuts and got to meet the orchard cat! You can buy apples and other apple products, including bottles of cider, at the store. There was a fire going in the fire pit, and the staff were friendly and chill. If not for the weather, I would have hung out here all day! See you next fall!

This orchard has been on my places to visit since September. I'm happy I was able to visit! There's plenty of parking, they even have a parking overflow. There is a restroom area. There was live music. It was nice. I thought there was an option to walk through the orchard, there was not. I ordered the apple hand pie, Apple donuts, and the Apple cider slider. The donuts are yummy, I wish they had more cinnamon. Apples in the donuts would be a great addition. The apple pie was OK. I wish they added cinnamon sugar to the outside and I also wished it was hot when I received it. Overall, it's just OK. Hard Cider slider review below. 1. Ginger gold. Reminds me of ginger beer. Very light and refreshing. 2. Gala peach. Good, reminds me of bubble gum. 3. Jersey Blues. Yummy! You can taste the blueberry flavor. 4. Hoppin Johnny. Just your average cider. You can taste a bit of citrus. 5. Rusty Gold. You can definitely smell the spice. The spice flavor is definitely prevalent. I think I would enjoy this more as a hot cider. This puts me in the mind of a ginger bread cider. 6. Rotating (Pomegranate). Aftertaste puts me in the mind of apple cider vinegar. It has a very apple taste. My favorite is the first one. My second favorite is the second one my third favorite is the blueberry my fourth favorite is the six my fifth favorite is the fourth in my least favorite is the spiced. I love how the ciders are light, flavorful and refreshing. Three out of five stars. The hard cider slider was my favorite part of the experience.

I enjoyed my time at Windy Hill Orchard & Cidery. I purchased a apple-picking slot and was able to pick my own Stayman Winesap apples. When I was done, I headed over to the stands and got apple cider donuts and a Ginger Gold cider which was incredible. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the parking situation. But, it's a popular place for a reason.

Is there cost to enter? Or do you just pay by how many apples you pick? Have many children and I am not sure if it's going to be very expensive

There is no cost to enter here... I'm not sure about the cost for picking apples, but I know it's based on events etc.

The playground really was not much and I think older kids would've gotten bored easily. For an extra fee, there is a corn pit to play in, a wagon ride and a train ride for kids. We did not do these.
