When we moved our family to Decatur we didn't want to change veterinarians but Sir was a special case he needed someone close. Sir was a rescue that should've lived in a bubble. Sickly but sweet. Sweet in a southern way if you know what I mean. On Wednesday Sir took ill and I had to find care for him immediately. I saw 3 different vets because Dr. Ponce was not available in our crisis. Unfortunately Sir passed away on Friday. My wife and I were having a conversation this morning about how important having a good veterinarian is. Somebody who is knowledgeable and who builds a relationship with you and your pet. Someone who cares and is considerate. Started out well enough but over time the prices increased and explanations and customer service decreased. Over time we just got the feeling it was less about the well being of our dogs and helping us understand how to best care for them than it was about price gouging for visits and tests. We were able to find a different vet and find that the tests were expected to pay 1200 for should only cost $150 for...proceed with caution. But if you ask too many questions they will discontinue service. Word of caution; find a vet that cares about you and your family member. read more

We began taking our two aging dachshunds to Dr Hunter several years ago and cannot be happier with this practice. They are always very professional and compassionate but most of all honest. Your pets are treated very well. In fact our two dogs usually hate to leave when there! Both vets are extremely knowledgeable and in no way try to pressure you into getting "extras" as with some vets. If you are in need of a trustworthy, compassionate vet, this is your place! I was reasonably happy with WHVH when I first started bringing my senior dog there. The doctor seemed knowledgeable and I appreciated their covid precautions and the option to schedule appointments online. However, I took my dog in for a nail trim (previously ~$12) and was surprised with a technician fee that brought the cost to around $25. I understand that they are understaffed and may need to charge extra fees, but it would have been considerate to let me know about the fee when I scheduled the appointment. I have never paid $25 for a nail trim (even when I lived in pricey California) and would have gone elsewhere if I had been informed. I told this to the technician and she did not offer to waive the fee as a one-time courtesy. Very disappointed. read more

I am so happy with my experience here. My dog had an unusual wound on her behind that she was licking. I was extremely concerned because it looked like a potential spider bite. I called my vets office (not Windy Hill's office) to ask for an emergency appointment. They could not take us even though we've been going there for a couple of years, and I was really frightened. I called around to multiple vet clinics, and Windy Hill was the only location that would see my dog as a same day appointment (I also discovered shortly after that one of my friends uses Windy Hill and highly recommended them). Windy Hill's employees were so friendly, understanding, and efficient. They let us know that my dog's anal gland had ruptured (!!!) and so they treated her and prescribed her meds. I am happy with the service, promptness, and cost of the visit. I will be using Windy Hill's Vet Hospital from here on out for my pets. I cannot say enough about Dr Hunter and the others at this clinic. I moved 4 days ago to Atlanta for a major job promotion having to leave my family behind initially but having a dying polycystic kidney disease Siamese who if left behind in VA was certain to die under a bed alone due to DH schedule. Our vet there felt euthanasia last Sat might be too soon as she was mid treatment and she rallied on the 12hr drive. Sadly it was a final hurrah and I found myself having to find a vet in an unfamiliar area near where I'm staying with friends to ease her pain and my 2nd day on the job, have her PTS over my lunch hour which was brutal. This cat had been the light of my life and I had only a week to realize she was dying & past saving. Dr Hunter and her tech (red hair-not sure name) were the ***2 most compassionate human beings I've ever met to both my sweet cat and I*** They took time to weigh her, administrate meds correctly to help her transition, I spent time with my kitty as I wanted her to never feel abandoned. My VA Vets we're always very clinical even if gentle. Dr Hunter truly cared & I felt worse for her than myself at the end, it clearly affected the staff (kitty wasn't even 9 yet) and that level of compassion will have my other pets coming here when the transfer is complete. My kitty crossed over without seizure or pain and they took a horrible gut wrenching decision and helped make it peaceful and dignified for us. Only cons-and they are few-are the fees can be high for daily hospital care vs my experience up north and the wait time can be long if you are a work in. However the time and money were worth it for the beautiful and kind service and care they gave my Knibby and I in our time of need. If they ever put people to sleep, I'd let Dr Hunter do my procedure --she's that good. read more

WE LOVE WINDY HILL VET!!! I would give them 10 Stars if I could!! We just got a new puppy, and they have made getting his puppy vaccines so easy & affordable. On top of vaccines, Broly (our puppy) somehow got an eye infection and WHV was so responsive & fit him in to their schedule so they could take a look at him. Their COVID precautions are fairly standard, but they run the "curbside" drop off appointments so efficiently. The front desk staff is always lovely to speak with, and they make sure to help me with anything I need. Everyone at WHV loves our puppy & takes such great care of him when he's there. My wife and I have been bringing our cats here since June 2016. We moved to Smyrna and took our oldest cat to Banfield and had such a bad experience we found a new place ASAP. WIndy Hill took our cat in as a "new patient" immediately and we have never looked back. My wife and I have adopted two more cats since and also take them to Windy Hill. The vet techs are extremely friendly and make you feel like family even on the first visit. Dr. Hunter is the best cat vet in the business. They immediately know who I am and who my dog is when I call, and always are on the same page when something is going on (so I don't have to keep retelling each person what the issue is). They always give advice on what is best, provide a ton of resources to help make an informed decision, and then respect whatever choice I make in caring for my dog. They have plenty of parking and are located right behind the quick trip gas station (You will see a sign). Knowledgeable, prepared and fair. Everything that a good vet should be. Knowledgeable: We took our mini dachshund here to get some teeth pulled, and what a great experience. They knew the specific nuances of caring for our breed of dog. This made us feel very comfortable before the visit. Prepared: Well-staffed. We previously took our dog to a vet in Sandy Springs (Trusted Friend Animal Clinic), and because she was not knowledgeable about our breed, and lacking on-site support staff, our dog ended up in the ER after a bad reaction to some shots. After it was all said and done we were out nearly $800 for a routine shot catch up. If we would have brought our dog to Windy Hill, none of that ever would have happened most likely - and if it did - they would have been prepared with the staff on site to handle the emergency, rather than having to send him to the ER. Fair: They charged us not a single cent over what they quoted us on the phone for the procedure. $350. And they gave him some complimentary fluids to keep him comfortable and reduce his pain while he waited for us to come get him. Top notch vet, earns all five stars. We are so grateful and appreciative for the tender care we received for our precious "german chocolate" girl. Ellie was our 15-year-old german wire-hired pointer/chocolate lab mix goofball who loved her family, the water and treats more than any animal I have ever known. We had to say goodbye to her recently and Dr. Jennifer Ponce and her team made a horrible day more bearable for us. They were so kind and so sweet to both Ellie and us. They were incredibly patient with us as we said goodbye and showed us the utmost respect and compassion during the entire process. We cannot say enough good things about this clinic. steve weiss My experience witht Windy Hill Vet seems to be an outlier. I felt that I was over charged and my wife ad I waited for 4 hours. My dog could not eat because of the size of the collar and we just wanted that adjusted. I feel that I was double charged we paid over $600 for an operation which thought included a follow up visit to examine her stitches. I then got a bill for $41 in addition for the doctors time when she just looked at the stitches. It is not the $41 it was the principle that I objected to. That said I thing that the vets are excellent----I hope you have a better experience then I had. read more

Lives up to their motto: Where Caring Comes First I have searched high and low in the Atlanta area for a vet for my rabbit and have been very unimpressed, even with the area's well-known "exotics" hospital. Then I found Dr. Rottersman. Despite the fact that she is more of a dog and cat vet, she is still the vet I trust most with my rabbit. She is quite knowledgeable about rabbits, despite the fact she doesn't see tons of them. She is *super thorough* in her exams, she is very thoughtful in her diagnoses, and she takes a ton of time with you and your pet. Despite the fact that she has a packed schedule, you never feel rushed -- she really takes a *ton* of time to make sure your questions are addressed. She has been especially patient with me being that I'm one of those people that has just enough medical knowledge to ask a ton of questions. She also has been exceptionally understanding about my 2 hour round trip to travel to her and has been very accommodating to me in that regard. She is soft spoken and super smart, but does not have an ego. Dr. R and her staff have never once tried to up sell me goods or services. (I realize vets have a business to run, but I find that particular practice very offensive.) Giving your pet good veterinary care is never cheap, but I would say that her prices are quite competitive. My 12 year old bunny and I are very blessed to find such a caring and thorough vet. We brought our sick puppy in for nausea... And it turned out he was very sick. The doctors here were so helpful and friendly. You could tell they cared deeply for the animals in their care. They gave us the big picture up front and explained our options. They allowed us time to consider everything and once we decided to let him go... They were caring and sympathetic.
