Dr. Hunter explained in detail what we need to do to help our 10 year old kitty with a sore that won't heal. She is very knowledgeable and compassionate with our kitty and answers all my questions and explains what our options are. Her assistants are very nice and helpful also. Wasted $138 but more importantly my dog's time! They were more concerned with fraternizing and getting money than finding a relief for my dog. I was hoping to find a closer vet to my house so I could transfer my cat and three dogs here, but after my experience last Friday I am NEVER coming here again. I brought our senior dog here, by a friend's suggestion, who was pulling out her hair and itchy. Since we moved into our new home, my cat had a similar problem. He was treated and a prescribed flea medication, Bravecto. He looks and feels amazing again. I was hoping for a prescribed flea medication for my dog as well. Instead the "vet", Byung Kim, went on about sticking to the same food and how he didn't think her hair loss was due to food allergies, which was irrelevant because that is literally the information I had provided him with. He also kept spewing facts and going over the same things like he just memorized his flash cards before a school exam. It has nothing to do with him being young; the vet tech at my vet is young and sounds more knowledgeable and put together than him. He apologized for not being sure if he covered everything because it was too early, at 8:00am! The staff I got seemed more concerned about having a good time behind the doors, which I could hear. This is with the exception of the front desk lady who was lovely. I also felt like he kept trying to fear-monger me into getting bloodwork. I told them I didn't think I needed the heart worm test because I thought they might have done it at my usual vet. I told them I only wanted the skin scraping and flea medication. When I paid the $138, I asked the "vet tech" Ashley where the flea medication was and she told me that I couldn't get it because I denied the heart worm test. I told her she didn't tell me that and she said I could just have my vet email it but provided no email and left. I would have gotten the heart worm test done again if she had told me that when I denied getting it, if it meant my dog would have gotten her flea medication. I would have gotten her prednisone, if it had been offered like my vet did. I would have gotten the bloodwork if I felt like they remotely cared about my dog, so I didn't. They were nice, but that doesn't help my dog. I called my vet, Bells Ferry Veterinary Hospital, when I left and they were able to see her that afternoon. I didn't want my dog to have to wait for me to be off of work in a few days again. I see now they are worth the 30-40 minute drive. They never pushed bloodwork but suggested it at some point in the future. They were more concerned about my dog feeling better before she went back home. I don't know who the proprietor of this establishment is, but you lost money on me bringing my dogs and cat here. I would have a serious talk with them about ethics and their bedside manners. I provided recent pictures of my animals to show that they are taken care of. My cat eats Royal Canine SO and my dogs are now on Simparico Trio for fleas. Velvet is feeling much better now, NO thanks to this place. They know me at my vet, would have been nice to have found some place a lot closer to my home that I could trust. read more

If I could give this experience 0 stars I would. This vet has zero respect for someone's time. I had an appointment for 2:15 for yearly shots, during which they told me it would be "a few minutes." Fast forward to 2:30, I call them again asking if they can give me an ETA for when they'll come get my dog, to which they reply "she'll be in within a few minutes." Fast forward again to a call at 2:40, which they tell me "it'll be around 5 minutes." Another 15 minutes passed by, after which I decided that I'd had enough. I understand running a few minutes late, but for a customer to have to wait almost an hour in the car is disrespectful and disingenuous.. Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic was always my go to, not only because they've taken good care of my dog, but above all they respect their clients' time, and for that reason, I'll never come back to Chastain, and keep going to Paces Ferry Vet. read more

I've taken my dogs here for years but recently had an experience that has ended that. I took my 2 dogs for their annual check up. This was during COVID so no in-person visits. The vet tech came to the car to get my dog and suggested a new medicine they could try when we discussed heart worm meds. She said it was softer on their system as my dogs have historically had bad reactions (they are tiny). We agreed and bought the suggested medicine for my dogs. I gave the medicine and thought they were protected. About 2 months pass and I was organizing my office and see the paperwork. I notice the description on the paperwork said "flea and tick" protection - no mention of heat worm protection. I looked it up online and saw the same info. I called Chastain and spoke to a receptionist. She confirmed that this medicine did NOT protect against heart worm and had "no idea" why a vet tech would suggest this as a heart worm protection. So my dog ended up not being protected for heart worm in Georgia in the middle of the summer!!!! The receptionist said I could bring the medicine back for a refund. I drove up there and was made to wait for over 30 minutes as they tried to figure out what happened. Someone (not a doctor) came out and apologized and took the medicine back. There were 5 pills left of the 6. They gave me 3 doses of the heart worm meds I normally give my dogs, as an apology. She said they would refund the card I had on file for the unused medicine. It's been 3 weeks and no refund. I took my dogs to a different vet to make sure they were ok. Luckily, according to this vet, even if they happened to be exposed to heart worm during that time, the medicine will be able to kill them since we caught it so early. But imagine if I didn't! Chastain animal hospital let me leave knowing my dogs weren't protected from heart worms! Very upset and disappointed. I let 3 weeks go by without posting this review, giving them the benefit of the doubt that they would refund my ~$100 but still NOTHING. Beware if you love your pets! My husband and I have utilized Chastain Animal Clinic's emergency care twice in our 6 1/2 years living in Atlanta. The first time our pug Lucy fell ill late at night, and passed out (very scary as this never happened before). They ran tests and kept her over night. In the end she was dehydrated and needed fluids. We learned that from the recent move to ATL she was stressed and did not drink enough water. The second time was over the weekend Lucy was bleeding when she urinated and had a UTI. Both times Chastain was both friendly and compassionate. The care provided was professional. It is good to know you have a reliable source to turn to weekends and late at night for emergencies! read more

We have a little Maltese that we often take to this animal clinic. Our dog has Congested Heart Failure so we're very careful about his condition and want to do our best to keep up with his condition. During our visit on 4/18, we wanted to do a renal panel to see how his kidney was handling the medication we were giving him. We called in advanced and let them know that's what we wanted to do and specified that we ONLY wanted to get results for his CREA and BUN value. After dropping him off and getting the renal panel done, I wasn't aware of how much I was charged and left but my wife noticed a discrepancy between what it should've cost (about ~$80 dollars) and what it ended up costing which was about $141 dollars. After recognizing the charge difference, she called them to ask why it cost so much more this time and the response they gave was that "I'm not the person you set an appointment with" and that "your husband (me) should've confirmed what he wanted done" and also that "we confirmed with him before we proceeded." The confirmation they're referring to has to be when I asked "are we doing bloodworks" and she says "we're doing a renal panel." Going back to the problem, when we asked them why we're charged so much, they said, it was our fault and that there is NOTHING they can do. They will not acknowledge that we've already told them we only wanted the CREA and BUN values during this visit and puts the blame entirely on us. I believe this is incredibly dishonest. I don't believe the whole clinic behaves this way but the one person that we spoke you was incredibly rude and uncooperative. We will never return to this clinic. read more

We love taking our dog to Chastain Animal Clinic. Dr. Germon is so nice and always seems to have a few minutes to spare to chat with you about your pet. She has a great memory too. She is always able to recall what we've spoken about in the past without having to consult our file. You can tell she takes great pride in her job and commits herself to providing excellent care for her patients, and their owners. :) I had some doubts about some of the recommendations she made for me, so we went home and did extensive research online and found that every thing she told us was absolutely correct. Again, it just goes to show how knowledgeable she is, and how much she wants to take excellent care of your pet. The staff is equally helpful and kind. Hands down, Jeff Sims is the BEST vet that I've ever used! He's so caring and takes all the time necessary to ensure that he's addressed your concerns and made you feel comfortable. He never fails to to sit down on the floor and play with my dog and really get to know him. Jeff always remembers something unique about you or your animal and really makes you feel welcome and comfortable. If you have a prescription for heartworm meds that needs to be verified by an online distributor, Chastain always is accomodating with their approval and you receive your meds in no time. Unlike those Banfield Vets in the PetSMART locations that will charge you $15/dog for each Rx that they confirm for you! What a racket! If they can't tell 1-800-PETMEDS that it is ok to refill a heartworm prescription with getting PAID to do so, then why do I want to take my pet there? I've recommended Jeff and his staff (who are also phenomenal) to everyone that I meet with a new dog and no one has been disappointed. I even recommended Chastain to a friend that lives off Camp Creek and he is now driving 20 miles to take his dogs there because of how good this place is! I could go on and on about how wonderful it is to have Chastain taking care of my "child," but I gotta get back to work. If you're not happy with your current vet, you owe it to your dog and yourself to check out Chastain Animal Clinic. You will NOT be sorry that you did! read more

It was a wonderful place until 2 vets left. Now when I called on a Friday because my dog hurt her leg they told me that they didn't have an opening til next Wednesday and to keep her in a crate until then. Not appropriate. I asked for a prescription for my dog and they wrote it. I needed to send it to an online med source because it was difficult for for me to get to them and then they didn't honor what they wrote. I brought my other dog there and the doctor asked me about the other dog and then walked out of the door as I was answering her. I'm in the process of looking for a good vet now. We were really sad to leave our old vet in Decatur. Chastain Animal Clinic was recommended to us by our neighbor. Coco has had a growth on her leg that has been bothering her. The Doctor did a great job with being so gentle with Coco but also gave us great recommendations. Dr. Germon was not pushy with making us do everything that was recommended which was one of the reasons why we loved our last vet so much. The only reason I did not choose 5 stars is because I don't think a perfect place exists, but Chastain is pretty close. I brought my pet in for a check up because she was acting strange and I could tell she was not well. My husband and I have just moved to Atlanta and had not chosen a vet so I was a little stressed. When I called to schedule an appointment, they were able to get me in that same day and the transferring of my pet's medical records from her old clinic was quick and easy. Once there, the staff greeted my pet by name. The recognized her by looking at the photo in her file! Our wait was short and the visit brief. The vet assistant and the vet were both extremely nice and knowledgable. I got a follow up call few days later from the vet to check on my pet. I took my dog in last week after 2 shots a 10 min look over...blood work 2 prescriptions my bill was 500.00...now I'm a stylist I would never do services without telling a client the cost especially if they were really high...apparently money is no object for them but it is for me...to top it off took dog to different vet today she has a torn ACL ...1 shot 2 prescriptions surgery scheduled bill 100.00 .....RUN don't walk away from here...when you walk in the waiting room is empty for a reason they have no respect for the people that bring their animals in. read more

I've been taking my dog here since she was 8 weeks. She's seven years old now. I stopped taking her due to the abuse she endured during one visit. She had to go in the back for lab draws. We were seeing the vet with the bangs that day. I heard the vet tell the technician, "I'll help you hold." I heard my dog yelp and a loud thud. When my dog came back in the room, the vet tech looked shaken and was inspecting my dogs face and ears. When I asked if she had been hit, she ran out the room. My dog's head was lowered and her tail was down which was not her usual behavior. She loves going to the vet. The vet came in and talked to me like nothing had happened like a true sociopath. I went back to this location for a travel certificate through another vet out of convenience, then I never came here again. I now make the vet staff at my new vets office treat my dog in front of me. I brought my Ragdoll here via suggestion of a friend of mine. He needed routine maintenance and I wanted to check on a couple specific things. My records were sent from my old vet and everything was seamless and smooth. We walked right in and were seen quick. The Dr. was awesome and my kitty seemed to do just fine- he wasnt scared or threatened. They treated him- and I was out of there in about 25 mins. The front desk staff was very personable and knowledgeable- My only issue (wasn't totally their fault) is that the meds my guy needed were costly. I wasn't advised of the price until it was time to hand over my card... that set me back just a little. Other than that- he is happy and I i will be back for further treatment. I love friendly staff- (as I am in CS myself- I know the type of craziness one can deal with in a day) however everyone was professional and positive!! Loved it and so did my fur-baby :) read more

I was going to one Vet clinic in the Smyrna area where I loved my vet, but didn't enjoy the staff so I decided to give Chastain a go about a year ago. Am I glad I did! Dr. Marshall has literally saved my beagle Bambi's life and I owe her so much. It's obvious she loves animals and will do what she can to make sure yours is safe and healthy. Bambi has also seen Dr .Gresham for shots. She is another amazing vet. Very sweet and loved Bambi as well. My mom's golden retriever sees Dr. Germon. What a vet. Ali the golden has a rare disease which causes other problems and Dr. Germon was able to diagnose this easily. Ali has to go in for testing often for a day and Dr. Germon, along with the rest of the staff treat her as their own dog, they truly love her. We are very thankful for the caring nature of the vets and staff. If you want vet who will love your pet and treat them as their own I would recommend any of the doctors here they are all truly a Godsend. read more

Let me preface my review by noting from the outset that I am about as anal and "needy" as they come in terms of dog ownership. It was after several years and many, many hours of research that I felt I could provide proper care for a dog. That noted, selecting a veterinarian was painstaking. I not only wanted to find professional and qualified medical caregivers for my little guy but I also needed a group of doctors and staff willing to not strangle me and endure my many, many questions. Chastain Animal Clinic has met my expectations and exceeded them. I am confident my dog receives the best care that veterinarian sciences can yield. They are patient, congenial, and extremely reasonable. I read many reviews from pet owners that were dissatisfied because of pricing--not the case at Chastain. I have never felt any of the veterinarians attempted to "push" or "hard sell" medical services for my dog. In fact, when he needed a dental consult, they went out of their way to ensure I received an equally fair referral. There are three veterinarians, and we've made efforts to see each one (in the even of an emergency, I don't want it to be the first time coming in contact); each doctor brings his/her own talents! There are all engaging and all very eager and willing to play with my dog and patient with his nerves and temperament. Dr. Germon is our "primary veterinarian because Sims has infrequent hours. She is a joy--a pure joy. She has shared her triumphs and challenges as a dog-owner and shares tips on temperament, feeding and training. My satisfaction does not end with the doctors. The staff is equally engaging and very helpful. Not one time (and I've had to visit several times) has the staff not been able to accommodate my request. They are friendly and always seemingly interested. I know I bring certain challenges as a client, but never have the doctors or the staff treated me as overbearing or made me feel reactionary. In fact, Dr. Sims goes so far to tease me for being overly concerned and makes allowances for my questions. Not only do I not feel rushed, but he has ended each appointment by asking if he's answered my questions completely. Dr. Gresham was so kind that she hand wrote responses to my concerns when it was time to have my dog neutered--unbelievable. My review is a bit detailed, but if you're weighing your decision between animal clinics, I wanted to be able to provide sufficient detail to permit an informed decisions--this was the best decision I made...after my decision to get my beloved dog! read more

I've been using Chastain Animal Clinic for about a year. Every time I come in there is a woman up front with long brown hair and she is always very nice. The wait isn't long, and even if it was, the waiting area is roomy and comfy. I love the vets... They take the time to hear me out about my dog's issues and make sure I'm comfortable with any treatments that are to be given.... All in all, I'll be bringing my dog here for life! I'm a huge fan of Dr. Marshall and Chastain Animal Clinic after having them treat Riley, my 10 year old lab, for the past 2 years. I move to Smyrna from East Point and initially just brought my dog to get his vaccinations updated. Last fall I noticed that he had a couple of small masses that had popped up- one on his head that he was prone to scratching. When I took him in to see Dr. Marshall, she did a very thorough examination and recommended that I keep a watch, but wouldn't need to have anything removed right away. Over time, he kept scratching the mass on his head, which started to bleed, so I took him back and Dr. Marshall remembered my pup and the situation- they gave me a treatment plan with the fees for removal and sedation, which I had completed shortly after. The staff has always been VERY good about confirming appointments and follow up (I received 2 calls from Dr. Marshall directly regarding Riley's care). I have never had any issues with scheduling, medications, etc- and the office is always very clean. The team does a wonderful job with making your pet feel like family. Love this place :) read more

Please note that my Scottish terrier age 6 is not, and has never been an aggressive dog. My boyfriend of several years has also known my Scottie since 11 months. My boyfriend never noted a change in my Scottish terrier's behavior (especially aggressive behavior) during that first visit with Dr. Marshall. I took my dog to Dr. Marshall for the second visit for the same concern, and observed her poor interaction with my dog. The assistant was great as she held my very scared and Wiggley dog. I also tried to hold my scared Wiggley dogs mouth open to get Dr. Marshall to look inside my dogs mouth to conduct a thorough exam . I felt like Dr. Marshall simply stood there in her white jacket, and leaned over casually looking in my dogs mouth. I almost felt like her hands were behind her back while she was Looking. I wanted Dr. Marshall to feel the loose teeth on top, and she did not.....I felt like I was chasing Dr. Marshall to get her to look into my dogs mouth to conduct a thorough exam. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how in the world can she know what she's treating when she really never conducted a thorough exam. At least one staff members is familiar with me, and knows it was very out of my character to raise my voice in anger during a visit as I never had to, Dr. Sims was fantastic! ............I felt like Dr. Marshall was trying to get paid for doing absolutely nothing, but giving a prescription for antibiotics. I told Dr. Marshall, and the receptionist my concerns as my previous Scotty of almost 17 years had skin cancer. I was trying to be proactive, and felt that Dr. Marshall was trying to collect money. Surely Dr. Marshall did not think that she could tell my dog to open her mouth wide, and she would open it. I think a vet should have a skill set for working with pets very similar to a pediatrician or child's dentist. Is it burn out, or is she just not a pet lover? I have an appointment with another vet next Saturday, and hope Dr. Marshall did not miss an important diagnosis because she failed to conduct a thorough exam during the first and second visit. Dr. Marshall should refer out if she is unable to conduct a thorough exam, or if she does not have the skill set to conduct a thorough exam. I failed to mention that Dr. Marshall never offered sedation to conduct a thorough exam. There is no excuse.....Dr. Marshall failed to do her job!!!!!!! I will share an update after my appointment with the new vet. Wish me luck pet lovers. read more
