What do you get when Applebee's and Cracker Barrel collide? You get Windy Hollow Restaurant. At least as far as the decor is concerned; the food is in a league all of it's own. This is country cooking at it's finest. The baked apples had the perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar and quite literally melted in my mouth. The sausage patties were fork tender and flavorful. I've eaten breakfast in a lot of places and have never had sausage like this! And then there were the chicken tenders. I'm not normally a fan because of heavy breading and little chicken, but these were the opposite of what I thought they were going to be. These tenders were lightly breaded large pieces of perfectly cooked chicken. Last, but not least, there was the coffee. This coffee was so good that it didn't need anything added to it to make it drinkable. I was very impressed with how friendly the staff was, and how they kept the buffet tables clean and well stocked. The only downside is that the place is on the smaller side, and very popular, so it can be a bit crowded. Don't let that be a deterrent, though. The food is worth it! read more

This was our first visit to the crazy museum that we knew existed but not to this extent. There is a lot of history here, we spent more time looking at all the stuff then we did actually eating. The food was good the buffet is small lucky for us the place wasn't busy but if it would have been I'm not sure how the visit would have been. This is a wonderful place for breakfast buffet on Sundays only. They have biscuits, gravy, homemade doughnuts, bacon, sausage, country ham, homemade fried chicken, potatoes....gosh several other great things. The pipeline are wonderful and friendly. Our son has food allergies and the owner (sweet lady, maybe the owners's daughter?) is always so sweet to check ingredients for us. It's a hidden gem for sure! read more

Having breakfast at Windy Hollow is always a must when I come back to Owensboro to visit. The buffet is the very definition of comfort food- so yummy! My favorites are the house made donuts and the sausage. You can also spend hours looking at all the amazing historical artifacts that decorate the restaurant- I notice something new every time. Only open on Sundays! This is the best brunch in the county! Real french toast, country ham, and homemade donuts are what make this place better than the rest. If you have a large party, or want to be close to the buffet for accessible/handicap reasons, call ahead and they will get a table ready for you. Very nice, very quick, very good. read more

Windy Hollow has been around for decades, the ambiance, the history and the family who owns the business are all amazing, but the food is why you should visit. The Sunday only breakfast buffet is worth the trip. Best fried chicken ever, taste like my momma made and so crispy, I don't believe you will find gravy that taste any better anywhere. Homemade donuts brought around to the tables by the owner, the personal touch that can't be beat. Oh and lets talk bacon, hands down best bacon and one of my all time favorites is the banana pudding, perfect way to finish off a meal. If we lived closer we would eat there every week, for now we make it a must have on our trips to the area. Try it you won't be disappointed. read more

This is down-home cooking at is finest! It is out of the way, but well worth the trip. The atmosphere is great with museum quality decorations on every square inch of the public areas. The breakfast buffet is awesome! Of course they have everything you would find on any good buffet, but then they go the extra country mile...do you remember the last time fried bologna and home-grown garden tomatoes were on a buffet? This place is an institution to the folks who live in the area, everyone needs to make the trip to eat here. If you have ever wanted to have that Route 66 experience locally, this is the place you will find it. Could not have been more satisfied with the whole experience! Got the bill and thought it was a mistake! Great food, cheap prices and the best table service you will ever have. Make it a destination! It is worth the trip to go to Windy Hollow! read more
