I have a brunch group and every month, and we pick a different spot to try out. March was our turn to try out Wine Down. I'd tell you the name of our brunch group, but it has a naughty word in it. Ok, well it rhymes with witches, so B*%#ches Who Brunch is our name. We are four awesome ladies who try and take the time to meet up at least once a month. But I digress. We started out with a pitcher of mimosas, cuz' brunch ya know. I ordered the A.M. Burger. Tell me that a burger has a fried egg on it and I'm sold. Especially when it's done right and the egg yolk is runny and just seems to melt all over that burger, giving it that yummy rich yolk flavor. Oh my. The burger was really good and I definitely recommend it. One of the girls also ordered the Fried Stuffed French Toast for us to share, which has mixed berry and banana cream cheese, bourbon-maple pecan syrup, vanilla bean ice cream, powdered sugar. WHAT?!?!? It just so happened to come in 4 pieces so we each had one to eat. Did you read what was in this thing? stuffed with cream cheese filling, bourbon maple pecan syrup, and vanilla ice cream? Sweet baby Jesus, was that good. If you eat this whole plate by yourself, no doubt you're looking at a diabetic coma. It's great to share and was a perfect dessert for our brunch. Sooo cute and classy! Love love love the interior, exterior, and staff! Wine down was everything I thought it would be. I love that they're right next to heaven and ale. Theres something for everyone here. They not only have wines, but a few mixed drinks and some beers if I'm not mistaken. Theres also a variety of foods. Cheese/ meat platters, flavorful fries, brussel sprouts, sriracha onion rings, brunches, and more. Lots to choose from and mmm mm mmmmmmm - the truffle fries are GOOD. Maybe 4.5 stars. First time here after learning they have added some vegan and vegetarian food options. Place was a bit packed, but sat at the bar until a table opened up. Bartender was from my hometown area of San Diego, so that was cool! We ordered a few items. The Vegan BBQ sandwich. The trio of Fallafel Tacos. And the Crispy Brussels with no bacon or creme fraiche. I have been here many time for lunch and have enjoyed it. So I decided to bring an out of town friend here for dinner. Made reservations a few days ahead of time for 4 people at 7:00. We even showed up early. We waited for over an hour! Very disappointed on how they take reservations. I would understand a few minutes but over an hour with reservations is just not right. I'M IN LOVE. We moved to Tennessee a couple of months ago and while I have enjoyed several restaurants and meals since I arrived, nothing has been quite like Wine Down. I am all of a sudden even happier with my new home as it is less than 10 minutes from this wonderful venue. Service was charming and attentive without being overbearing. Both Haley and Casey clearly love where they work and are excited to be there. That right there is a good sign. The FOOD, oh god, the FOOD was so good. I am a great cook! NO brag, just fact and all too often I dine out and think what I could have done with a meal. At Wine Down, well let me stand quietly and meekly and very attentively in the corner and just watch the chefs in action, cause what they do is wonderful Goat cheese appetizer really good and the freeze dried herb and the sauce were exquisite. My simple house salad was a symphony of flavors and textures. Just the freaking house salad!!! My Veal Short Ribs were to the moon and back and I haven't even mentioned what my hubby and aunt got. Really wanted to love this for brunch. Kitchen is small, so it took about 40 minutes for our food to come out on a semi-busy Sunday. Favorite dish ordered by our group was the stuffed, fried French toast. Emphasis on the fried, my husband loved it but I tried a bite and wouldn't have liked eating that much fried bread. Another person in our group ordered the pancakes and returned it to the kitchen after finding a hair in her food. The waitress handled it graciously and offered her a new plate complimentary. I had the omelette with a side of home fries. I only ate a few bites of each. The home fries were a bit undercooked and I felt I could have made a better omelette at home. It has a varied wine and beer list and excellent staff that can very clearly describe how each beverage tastes; as well as they can pick out great suggestions based on the taste palate you describe. I came across this little gem by accident. I was looking for a coffee house to get some weekend work done, but got lost and came across Wine Down. Upon energetic g I instantly fell in love with the decor (I'm a sucker for decor). Very clean, spacious, not a whole lot of clutter. Perfect. I decided to sit at the bar and the owner was so nice. Without me asking f he offered to plug my laptop into a nearby socket. I ordered the adult grilled cheese and it was amazing. 07/30/21 evening we eat here. So we keep wanting to like this place but it's super expensive and doesn't live up to the price point. I had the hanger steak which was really good and plated beautifully. If you don't get their happy hour the bistro board you need to takeout a loan to pay for it. $7 for each pick of cheese or meat. I've eaten in high end restaurants all over the world and this price point is crazy. The staff is super friendly however it was 99 degrees out and staff constantly opens the front door going back and forth between both buildings sucking out the a/c. This also brought fly's all over us while we tried to eat. To make it worse the male and female hosts have to be dating with lots of touching which was super unprofessional since I was in the restaurant business for 18 yrs in NY this is a no go. While they did this they kept holding open the door and having conversations. My wife's grouper was tasteless and she generally loves grouper. Our wine was very good and our waitress was super nice and professional. Another point is you are spending all this money and the staff is in ripped Jean shorts and T-shirts. This was my second time coming to Wine Down. The first was for Sunday brunch, the atmosphere was comfortable, the service was exceptional and the food was not great but Ok. This visit was mid-week, the atmosphere was loud and busy, the service felt rushed and distracted, the food was about the same. My takeaway is I would definitely return for brunch but would not go back for a dinner during the week. I would also ask for a better description of the food before I order. read more

Wow! What a pleasant surprise - a REAL gem of a restaurant. From the second (literally) that we walked in, we were greeted with a bevy of awesome ladies with big smiles, great attitudes and a true desire to ensure our visit was perfect. The food was phenomenal, creative and, most importantly, mega tasty! We were going to get to the entrees, but stuck with apps. The deviled eggs are out of this world, and I'm a connoisseur of the southern favorite. We also ordered the fried oysters, 2 actually... too much because they're pretty darn big. Be careful with the Southern Relish offering if you have less than 4 people, it's ridiculously large. The goat cheese balls are fantastic and finally the bistro snack was a winner rounding it out. The surroundings are well done, open, inviting and right on point. And as I stated before, these ladies - nearly all of them came by at least once - took care of us. The Cambridge Square is a lovely place unto itself, but Wine Down ensured I will be back many times to get enjoy their specialness, as well as the rest of the area. I have had an absolutely awful time trying to work with this restaurant in trying to host my rehearsal dinner here. I have filled out the initial inquiry form twice and after receiving the initial response have been unable to get any kind of response since then. I have called, left voice mails, emails, contacted the restaurant hostess and been told my information would be passed along to Georgia (the person in charge of events) only to not receive any kind of response. So while looking for another place we happened upon Cambridge Square. Who knew? This upscale shopping and dining venue in of all places Ooltewah, Tennessee was quite a surprise. It has an almost beach or resort feel. After two passes around the square, we decided to try Wine Down. Since the premise is a large assortment of wines and nouveau cuisine, I kind of expected a slightly pretentious staff. As our host/server greeted us in short shorts, a tied at the waist t-shirt and a big "howdy", I was reminded that I wasn't in some swanky resort town but good ole eastern Tennessee. Our server was not the most attentive server but she made up for it with a brash, tell it like it is attitude. My wife ordered the house salad but asked for ranch instead of the house dressing. The server crinkled her nose and said "I can get you the ranch but I don't think it will be good with the style of our salad." My wife and I exchanged a quick glance and smirked. My general rule is to always order food just like it comes--no special orders. To me, making changes to a dish is an insult to the chef. With that philosophy, I ordered the burger fries and a house salad (with the "correct" dressing) for us to split. The food arrived promptly and was very good. The burger was probably the best I ever had in the Chattanooga area. While waiting for the food I sampled a great Riesling but old age or the wine kicked in and I don't remember the name. My first visit to Wine Down was pre-Covid and fabulous. My girlfriend and I enjoyed patio dining, great drinks and food, and fabulous service. Fast forward to late summer 2021 and post-Covid and the place had a totally different vibe. The staff seemed all new, not very knowledgeable, and rushed. Food was good but not great, drinks left a little to the imagination. I'll give it another try if a friend invites me to brunch but I won't speak up and request it. The location in Cambridge Square is convenient and parking isn't too bad if you circle around a couple times, you can usually find a spot opening up. I was impressed. I never been to a bar that was specifically a "Wine Bar". You just come in and sit down at the bar and order wine like you would beer at a singles bar. Now, you can order beer here too like any other bar and they have some high alcohol beers. I saw one beer that was 13 percent by volume. You can also dine here too as you can order food. Come here for lunch "they say". They have several tables that seat 4 in here. They can also be put together to seat more such as a table for 6. However, there is an automatic tip charge for tables of 6 or more like I have seen at some upscale restaurants. Wine Down has a quaint, intimate and yet quiet setting that is really appealing. All staff, bartenders and waitresses wear Wine Down shirts. One thing I noticed it that is very relaxing in here. At the time of visiting, I heard no music playing. Finally! Ooltewah has needed a place like Wine Down for a long time! After reading some mixed reviews here in Yelp, I decided to see for myself if this place was going to be all I hoped and Wine Down did not disappoint one bit! They offer an extensive wine portfolio with a great range of prices as well. The food was equally impressive and paired very nicely with the wines recommended by our server. The truffle fries were amaaaazing!! Just get them. Do it. You'll thank me later. We found the staff to be pleasant, knowledgeable, and very attentive, even though the place was very busy at the time! The atmosphere is very classy and you can tell that the owners really have a passion for wine and food by the care they've taken in making this place unique. You can have a conversation with someone and don't have to shout over the music. I was most surprised by the quality of the food. I ordered curry buffalo wings and the pork belly with Brussel sprouts and squash. Both were excellent and good size portions. My wife and I shared the appetizer and entree.
