Reading reviews here has me confused, but hopefully this helps anyone visiting recently. Wine Mess now doesn't have food prepared inside of it. Sometimes there's a pop-up out front however. This is one of our city's hidden gems for kombucha, cbd drinks, alllll of the electrolyte drinks (even the Dodgers one), every single chamoy candy (gushers, gummies, freeze dried, etc), odd potato chip flavors, ramen you won't find in major grocery stores, and yes, there's a beer cave full of craft ciders, ipas, seltzer, and so on. They definitely support our local breweries. Customer service is always on point, and the guy behind the counter has been nothing but kind to me. read more

I think new ownership, but the new owners are young guys and have done a great job renovating and improving selections of beverages and liquor and food. Clean. Friendly. I used to come here pre renovation, and I really like what they did with the place overall. If you want food there are is an amazing taco stand off cherry and broadway, prices are cheapest around town and quality of tacos is great. They do Taco Tuesday and have a $8 any burrito Wednesdays. Prices are sometimes up to $5 dollars cheaper than competitor taco stands in the area and been to all of them and they are by far the best quality fairly priced food. Have dined at the deli numerous times. I haven't in a while but was craving a salad and decided I wanted to go here and support a local business that had always treated me well. Asked the very nice girl from the liquor store side what was in the Italian sub and if I could make it into a salad. She said yes but was unsure of what ingredients made up the sandwich, so she asked another employee to help me as he was more familiar with the deli side. He was less than helpful, in fact, he was condescending and rude. When I made a face when he was being disrespectful, he said "sorry I like to be difficult" and then proceeded to take my order. At this point, I decided to take my business elsewhere. If you see a guy with purple hair, avoid the deli at all costs. I will not be returning. read more

While waiting outside, babysitting a laptop, I appreciate the addition of a separate door leading directly into the deli. (Not that I am a total teetotaler, but I like to announce to the world "I'm just here for a sandwich!".) So bf is inside getting one of those consistently delicious and tender meatball sandwiches being expertly assembled by Francisco. As I ponder the reconfiguration of Broadway so that it is now only a two lane street, Mike, the owner, comes out to give a friendly wave. So nice. I wonder what the "road diet" as they call it will do to businesses. Next to the curbs are bike lanes. Getting out on the passenger side requires more caution. Sitting in a parked car is akin to being stuck in a backed up traffic jam. I assume this store gets a good amount of foot traffic, and is not adversely affected by city planners. The dude with the nails is consistently rude. When purchasing a porter beer, he said something like, "ew I wouldn't recommend buying that. It tastes like a porter." Mind you, that's exact why we picked out a porter? On a separate occasion, I was curious about a certain drink and simply wanted a price check on the item. The old man working told me it was illegal for me to even touch the drink and that he wouldn't give me any information until I showed my ID. so this deli popped up in my neighborhood. I had heard they had good potato salad. I had the chance to stop in and try for myself....um this potato salad is quite possibly the best i have ever had. it has so much flavor. and yummy ingredients. The owner is very helpful and knowledgable in the alcohol department and is more than happy to answer and questions or make a suggestion. The shop carries a lot of unique 22s and liquor if you're feeling adventurous. The store has tons of snacks for your snacking needs and even has plenty of healthier options. I've always supported family owned/ mom and pop business and will continue to do so. Check this place out if you're in the area, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Parking is on the street and can be difficult due to the houses and apartments that surround the area. There are about two parking spaces in front of the store on Broadway that has a maximum of 24 min parking I believe so makes for a great quick stop. read more

I don't know how much credence one can give a reviewer who believes Pabst Blue Ribbon and Tecate Lite to be legitimate beer choices, and who blames a malfunctioning 3rd party ATM on the store that houses it? Honestly, yes this place is dusty, but living in this neighborhood, I can tell you that battling dust is a loosing proposition. I can dust my apartment and it gathers a week's worth of dust in 24 hours. Given that the proprietors of this place are elderly, I think some slack can be cut. Anyway, it is a decent little spot, with a nice selection of beers not typical to small shops like this. It's a worthy neighborhood spot, and certainly deserving of more than 2 stars. The wine mess is a corner connivence store located at the 1700 street and broadway in Long Beach. Since the paradise cafe closed down I have tried to find "value added" food places. I play billiards in the neighbor hood and an old gf used to work at paradise cafe ... ergo, the trek for a new food place. I noticed that the wine mess had a deli attached to the place .... Hey ... why not check it out ... places like this always give good value for the food and leftovers to eat multiple meals if desired. ... for me, so much desired. I stopped in and ordered the Asian bbq beef. The counter prep lady asked how spicy would I like it .... well ... the manly man I am replied "hot and spicy like all my former gf's. The response came back Cummins right up "". I took the sandwich to the pool place a half block away where the league games were playing. I took one bite of the Asian bbq Sami and holy cow ... my mouth was in hell. Just way to hot just like my favorite yelp star Peach !! So I ordered a White Russian to quell the tears and sweet coming off my eyes and brow. But. ... the taste was really good with this Sammy once my taste buds returned to something less than chemically seared. So I convinced myself that I was not going to be bested by an Asian bbq Sami. So I took another section and consumed it like you would expect bill Clinton to do This effort continued until I finished half the Sami and had drowned my taste buds in about a gallon of White Russian drinks. Needless to say ... I could not find the pool balls or table. A day later I finished the Sami and I drowned my taste buds in a gallon of milk. The Sami was good read more

The menu is extensive and I have yet to try the tempting off-menu/on the counter pineapple upside down cake. The other reason to go here is the affordability of the items. This place used to be great and a neighborhood staple, complete with amazing and delicious deli, grocery items, interesting and unique alcohols, a bodega cat, and a personable owner who was interested in the community. Now with the new owners it's just a run of the mill, unwelcoming, par for the course liquor store with zero life, and no charm. It feels like any old joe schmoe liquor store along Hollywood Blvd. I wouldn't be surprised if they started selling vaping products and adding more neon and LED signage. I sincerely hope somebody else comes around, buys it, and makes it a neighborhood bodega again. A step down for the entire neighborhood. What a waste of potential in a prime space. Great service and great food. The liquor store has a good selection of beers, and definitely a better selection of craft beers than the other stores in the area. I can't speak to the wine choices as I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I notice lots of wine bottles when I'm in there. My favorite part is certainly the deli. They have a large selection of food, mostly sandwiches, but also some amazing fusion type options. Last time I was there I had the Asian Beef tacos. Generous portions, delicious sauce, and fresh with lots of purple cabbage on top. The egg rolls made a good side dish, and I had leftovers. The ban mi sandwich also deserves mention, and so do the wings. I have liked everything I tried so far, and the ingredients always taste fresh. The interior has a very "mom & pop shop" vibe, and is a lot more enjoyable than going into a Subway or other fast food restaurant. There are a few chairs outside to eat your food on. The beach is a short walk from the store, and so is "Retro Row" on 4th Street. The staff and the owners are friendly and laid back. Overall, this is a good place to go if you are craving Asian fusion, if you are going to the beach and want some fresh sandwiches to enjoy, or if you just need a fresh quick lunch or dinner. read more

I've been a regular for a couple years now. The owner is a nice man who was always helpful and chatty. Then his son started working there and he was nice enough but told us he didn't drink and would ask about what beer people like and what's worth recommending. He has a terrible memory for faces, though, because soon after, he started telling us about what his favorite beers are and what he likes to drink. Standard salesperson lies. That's expected. They never used to charge electronic surcharges for credit or debit. Good. Then a few weeks ago they told me they charged a fee for credit but not debit. I said "oh that's new.. I guess debit then." They said it wasn't new, they've always done it. So, they've either done it without telling me, which is so sketchy, or they are lying about new charges, which is so sketchy. Tried to go there last night and was told they charged a $0.75 surcharge for electronic transactions. I ask "for credit? A few weeks ago it was only for credit." He said that, no, they've always charges for both. The lies are starting to pile up and my sketchy-radar is zinging through the roof. I said that that sucked but whatever, and then turned to my friend to tell him that the surcharges are actually illegal in California (they are- false price advertising and discrimination against non cash-holders; California Civil Code section 1748.1). The clerk (owner's son) took my merchandise and refused me service. He was a real a-hole about it, probably because some sketchy friends were at the counter talking to him so he wanted to be a cool guy. Great customer service. Is he within his rights to refuse service? According to all the signs posted in stores, I guess. Should he turn down business from well-informed, loyal-for-two-years, customers that already said they pay the stupid fee? Not if he had half a brain. I guess working in a liquor store in Long Beach makes you go from nice, honest guy to rude, thieving sketch ball in as short as 2 years. Now we know. Bye, Wine Mess. I'll miss your beer selection. wow....hands down the most cleanest and most organized liquor store/mini mart I've ever been to. So colorful and clean on the outside too. Nice selection of everything and there's lotto too! I live down a few blocks and sadly have my pick of liquor stores to choose from but this is TOPS. 1 star for never any parking in this super congested 'hood. Yeah nope!!! Not doing it. Gave way to many chances to like the food just because the owners are super cool. And I love the store part aside from the deli. But nope can't do it. Ok let me be more specific, if you want egg rolls or fries get food here or maybe a cold sandwich since you can't really go wrong but other then that, that's it. This time I tried the chicken sandwich and I couldn't do it after two bites. I think they use turbo chef which is like a microwave/oven thing regardless I have had better food that comes out of a turbo chef.
