Only had the chai iced tea but enjoyed both the drink and the combination of small mom and pop store with a splash of homestyle delicious looking sandwiches which I saw being made. I'll be back one day

so this deli popped up in my neighborhood. I had heard they had good potato salad. I had the chance to stop in and try for myself....um this potato salad is quite possibly the best i have ever had. it has so much flavor. and yummy ingredients. Its really good. i also ordered a veggie sandwich that i plan on eating later. they have extended hours which is very helpful. most kitchens close early in this area so this is a big deal. if your in the area come try a sandwich and the potato salad. grab a beer and make it a meal. the wine mess has super yummy beer options but this post is about the new local deli

I don't know how much credence one can give a reviewer who believes Pabst Blue Ribbon and Tecate Lite to be legitimate beer choices, and who blames a malfunctioning 3rd party ATM on the store that houses it? Honestly, yes this place is dusty, but living in this neighborhood, I can tell you that battling dust is a loosing proposition. I can dust my apartment and it gathers a week's worth of dust in 24 hours. Given that the proprietors of this place are elderly, I think some slack can be cut. Anyway, it is a decent little spot, with a nice selection of beers not typical to small shops like this. It's a worthy neighborhood spot, and certainly deserving of more than 2 stars. It's a 3.5 star place, and my 4 stars are intended to raise the average.

Best cheesesteaks I have had on the west coast! I am from Philly and have been trying to find a good cheesesteak spot, but I have been disappointed many times with other places who sell them. Very satisfied I will definitely be returning. (Grilled onions, ketchup, mayo, cheese wiz)

Had the beef Asian tacos last night and they were really impressive. Not what I expected from a liquor store deli. I will definitely go back when I need a quick meal. Beware though, they are pretty spicy! You can request mild, but mine were still pretty spicy. read more

Have ordered the Philly cheesesteak, Asian Sander and the homemade egg rolls and all are delicious!!! Bummed I read that you can substitute and get Wiz on the cheesesteak to make it a true cheesesteak after the fact, but will order that next time. Owner is super friendly and the booze is reasonably priced too! read more

Oh my, pleasantly surprised! Thank you for a delicious dinner Wine Mess! I had the East Asian BBQ Beef sandwich and GF had the Asian Tacos and we both loved our food. Unfortunately they ran out of potato salad so settled for pasta and damn that was the best pasta salad I have ever had. I'll be back soon!! read more

What can I say... not only is a liqor store but they have convenience items as well. I love the vibe here every time I enter. The locals hang out there... music bumping... wait was that two chicks twirking? Yep! There was a twirking challenge going on! LOL. Paul and Nick are great. They really went far and beyond by helping me out while recovering from surgery. It's a local store... they remember their neighbors... they are willing to help out! I love them! Thanks for always being there when I"m in a pinch or craving my Astro pops! And yes it is dusty at times... I see the mother in there in the afternoons cleaning. Like the other reviewer stated.. dust is something we just can't avoid being two block from the beach and while leaving your doors open day and evening. I have to sweep daily and dust every other day... It's Long Beach.. all the sand gets blown about! read more

I went in to order from the deli but didn't because of poor customer service. The woman sitting behind the counter didn't acknowledge me when I walked in. I walked to the deli and again, wasn't acknowledged by the guy behind the counter. He looked at me and continued to clean or move things around on a prep station. I waited for a minute or so, then walked out; passing the woman behind the counter who still didn't acknowledge me. read more

Great to able to walk a couple of blocks to pick-up emergency beer or toilet paper. The folks that work there have always been really sweet whenever I've come in. Yes, it's dusty. So is my apartment. Don't really care unless the dust is in my beer. read more

I always have great service here. My wife and I come here often when we crave a beer while hanging out at home. The owner and his son are always so nice and knowledgeable when we have any questions about the beers. And if you forget something from the supermarket, (like tortillas) I'm sure they will have it! read more

This is my favorite ice cream store. They have the best prices and selection of ice cream in the entire area. They also have a deli that is open until 1am on Friday & Saturday and 9pm every other day of the week. read more

Such a great neighborhood liquor store... I love the artwork on the side of the building. Brings back old memories of how the US Navy had such a big presence in this area back in the day. Staff is always friendly too. They have a nice little French Wine selection that can be easily missed if you don't know where to look. Nice to see that French wine is making a comeback... After all, the French are best at wine making. read more

The food is great. Love the family that runs the place. Nothing against anyone, the new girl is very sweet but maybe shouldn't be left alone to run the place just yet. A lot of days I come here because it's delicious and I'm tired from working all day and it's fast. Stopped by to grab a beer. Nice selection. Saw they had a deli section (sign said it just opened January 15, 2017) couldn't resist trying a 6 inch pastrami sub with a variety of toppings which are free. Fire! The potato salad (pasta salad other option) it came with? Fire! Employees were cool as well. Will be coming back for sure. read more

omg this place is the best liquor store in all of long beach. everyone is beyond nice and super helpful. it is probably the cleanest, hippest, coolest store. the people there go beyond to help. and the tall asian guy, super hot. and i think his name is paul...so cute. and that beer guy was super helpful. kinda young, but my little sister would love him. the older gentleman knew everything about everything and he was so nice. love him and his wife knew where everything was in the store. she was like map quest for the store. so cute. over all best store. read more

History

Established in 1939.

Wine Mess Liquors was established in 1939 during the World War 2 era. At the time that specific area of Long Beach was military. You eat at a mess hall, but drink at a wine mess, therefore the name of the business is called The Wine Mess. The store is under new ownership as of September 2012 and is looking forward to doing plenty more years of business!

Meet the Manager: Paul T.

I moved to Long beach in 2013 to help out with the new family business. I am thankful for the wonderful community that supports our store, in return we gladly support the community. We are big on customer service and aim to please! We take request from customers so feel free to stop on by and check the store out. I am there most nights until 2 a.m., just a phone call away so come in any time, you are always welcome!

The cream top help makes the matcha thicker and all the flavors are balanced well 3) strawberry shortcake matcha: strawberry flavor is not that strong imo and most of the strawberry flavor i got was from the topping itself. I recommend this to people who wanna try matcha for the first time 4) lychee matcha: initial taste threw me off, but its refreshing and it grew on me the more i drank it. However, i personally wouldnt get this again The only qualm i have with this place is that there hasnt been any air conditioning in the store during the two weeks ive visited. Not sure if they were having an off day or not, but my drink wasn't what I was expecting. It was very underwhelming, however, service was friendly. Parking was ok. I did see some available spots in the front as I was exiting, but when I parked, I was able to find a spot, however, it was a bit of a walk, which I didn't mind.

I stopped in for a coffee and a side of bacon, and my total was almost $20. For such a simple order, that's hard to justify. I understand food costs have increased, but the pricing feels excessive compared to other local restaurants that serve quality food at much more reasonable prices. My biggest concern, however, is the impact the business has had on our neighborhood. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead.

I just visited this place. There is a girl who works here kinda looks like Lindsay Lohan in recent years. She said"what is wrong with you people" as some gay ethnic dudes walked in. It's pride weekend, and this store shares the street with several bars. I asked her what she meant . I asked in a completely calm manner. She said " I don't have to answer you " I was second in line, the gentlemen running the register apologized for her. He said in front of her I'm sorry about her, I asked for a pack of smokes- as he reached for them she said NO GET OUT! Literally raised her voice. She refused a customer for asking her who she was referring to as you people . I told her she's working at a liquor store at 11 pm on a festival weekend - stop acting surprised. I furthered it with you're a racist homophobe POS. I highly doubt that a person who displayed this level of aggression has only done this once- please share! I will never go here again - I won't support hate read more
