His African-American cashier was cordial enough asking if we had an account. We bought a white and a red and a sparkling. The second time I wanted to see if service was a one-off. It wasn't. Friendly place without being overbearing, they allow you to browse a bit then offer to help as little or as much as you'd like. Sure this is a tourist mecca, however there is a fair share of locals too, you'll find plenty of apartments/condos lining the nearby streets of 56th, and 57th., and more just the other side of the Time Warner building. So they have to be somewhat competitive to get all sides off the market. Compared to some other shops nearby their selection is more sophisticated throughout all price points. You can pickup a nice bottle in the 15$ range and up from there. I've been in some other shops where the selection was what you'd expect in a Chicago grocery store, actually some of our grocery stores beat the selection. Nice shop, nice people, close to where I stay, all good it works. No reason to schlep wine across town.

Last night, when the store manager asked a male Hispanic employee to assist, I noticed that once we reached the register with the item for check-out, the same male Hispanic employee was holding his iPhone, clearly ready to take a photo of me. Although the store cameras are installed and positioned at the front, it appeared he was doing this intentionally. Please Note: To everyone visiting this location, please be aware that a male Hispanic employee may take your photo for no apparent reason!

The service was pretty helpful on the red floor but got busier downstairs. It was easy enough to find what I was looking for and I walked out with two bottles to pair with spicy curry. I opened the bottle immediately after purchase and the inside of the cork had mold all over it. So, I went back to the store that same evening (10min later), figuring it would be a quick exchange or refund. However, a man who identified himself only as the "manager" flat out refused to consider any idea that the cork was moldy, or any sort of exchange or refund. I even showed the cork to another customer in front of the manager, as a sanity check, and the other customer agreed the "white fuzz" over the inside of the cork was mold. Instead, the "manager" was extremely rude and highly aggressive. He continued to try to gaslight me into thinking it is "normal" for wine corks to have white fuzz on the inside and then proceeded to ask me why I opened it if it was moldy (which, of course, I wouldn't have known because it was on the INSIDE of the cork and wine bottles are opaque). Anyways, I ended up thanking him for his time and telling him I would no longer shop here. If you are the owner of this business, please consider adjusting your staff and business policies because you are losing business. Instead of exchanging a $20 bottle of wine, you have now lost my $100's of business every quarter.
