My Wedges were all super soggy, and I'm guessing they Poured them in the Styrofoam container from the hot Oil because the One container was melted to the Container underneath so there was melted Styrofoam on the bottom level of Fries.. Also the wings looked great and were cooked Perfectly but either they dropped them in a bag of charcoal before cooking them or Put Liquid smoke all over them or something they were inedible.. Food and service were Amazing! By far the best wings I've tried in the area. I came on Super Bowl Sunday and was able to get seated and served right away. Caroline was my bartender/ server and was very personable and helpful with taking my order. I was luckily sat next to one of the owners, Lisa, who I ended up having a wonderful conversation with and she recommended some great sauce flavors for my wing order. She told me about their deal days as well as Kareoke nights and trivia (I will try to make it to the Friends one this Wednesday!) Out shopping this evening, hubby decides to visit what once was his fav spot for wings. Just 200 ft away, he crosses 4 lanes to make the entrance. OH WOW. THIS MUST BE GOOD. My first time here, I'm thinking it's a dive, but ,let's be honest, some "Dives" have the best food. Welp, this was not. The outdoor dining area smells like it could use a good power wash, a wipe down of the tables and chairs. Through the first door. Dank smelling dirty carpet. Finally inside and I immediately want to leave. He's excited, so I grin and bear it. I go against what I normally have. Order takes 20 mins. After snapping a couple of pics, I got back to my car. Hubby retnd to the car with our order. Arriving home, and I do wish we had dined in ok the dirty tables. I wanted to through the entire meal in the trash. Hot q wings were just drizzled with sauce, I felt so bad for my wing connoisseur dry wings, just a little bit of wet sauce. My wings were, on the other hand, covered in some oily mess with flavorless parm. Fries overdone and bot even fresh, just warmed up, the fried pickles had to be deep fries at least 5 times. I would have to describe this place as distinctly mediocre. A large group of about 25 of us came in for a meeting, and we pretty much ended up occupying the entire seating area. Unfortunately, they were short staffed as only one waiter could take care of us. He was really nice and personable and just for that I'm giving the extra star. So to get a beer took about 15 minutes, and the food took closer to 25-30. The wings were ok, they were a nice size, but a little dry. Dozens of sauces to choose from, which is really cool. Friends introduced us to Wing King a few months ago and it was great the first time. Came back a second and third time and it was okay. Wings were dry and overcooked; like a solid 7 out of 10. We traveled from Md to celebrate my bday and we wanted wings for lunch so we decided on Wing King. Sarah is the most disrespectful and unprofessional hostess/waitress. She came to our table with an attitude, made no eye contact, no smile and no proper greeting. We asked for drink menus and she just walked away. So when she returned my cousin politely asked her for her name and she replied "don't worry about what my name is". We immediately got up to leave but I was not going to let that behavior slide. Sarah acted like she didn't want to serve Black People. I asked to speak with a manager multiple times and while speaking with someone else another customer who was white yelled out to me "you need to calm down". Finally I did speak with the manager and all he could do was offer me free food. Sarah does not have the personality or skills to be in customer service. *Low rating due to POOR COMMUNICATION and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!-- In preparation of Super Bowl Sunday, I made attempts to call ahead to place my wing order for the upcoming game day on Sunday. I was unable to reach anyone through the phone after a few attempts, so I went directly to the Wing King VA Bch Blvd location to place my order on Wednesday, Feb 5th around 3:30pm. When I went inside there was a female associate on the phone and a guy behind the counter. The guy asked me what he could help me with, so I told the guy behind the counter that I was looking to place my wing order in advance for Super Bowl Sunday and that I was also looking to add a side order of the broccoli and cheese bites with the wing order for the broccoli to pick up at the same time. The associate told me that all I had to do was place the order for the wings (30 count) and that I could add the broccoli and cheese bites as a side at the time of pickup. I asked him if he was sure as I know game day is busy and I was trying to avoid any hiccups. He told me that all I needed was to place the order for the wings as the (cooking) staff would know that sides are expected to be made on the same day and that I could just pay for everything (wings and broccoli & cheese bites) at the same time. I told him that was fine and he took my name and phone number for the order. Fast forward to picking my order up on Sunday, Feb 9th and there's a table up front with the order receipts. I give my name and the lady hands me my order receipt and I say I would like to add the broccoli and cheddar bites with my wing order, and it is at this time that she informs me that they are NOT accepting any side orders which is completely different from what the other associate told me at time of placing the order! She goes to the back and comes back out and confirms they are not making the broccoli and cheese bites, but that I could talk to an associate at the counter...ok. I went ahead and paid for my $35 wing order and then I spoke to another associate behind the counter who confirmed that they were not making any sides other than fries and wedges for Super Bowl Sunday. I declined those as that is not what I wanted and already have those items available. For the lack of miscommunication on the associate's part who took my order on Wednesday, I was not offered a discount on my current order to nor was I offered a future discount on broccoli and cheese bites or something along those lines to rectify the inconvenience. The only reason I even placed my order with Wing King was for those broccoli and cheese bites. There are plenty of other places that make wings, but not those specific bites! This is a huge inconvenience! If the associate that took my order was better informed, I would have went ahead and bought the broccoli and cheese bites prior to Super Bowl Sunday. Going forward, please ensure all associates are informed of restrictions and all employees are on the same page so that they can better communicate with customers! Ordered food for pick up at 11:43. We went to the restaurant and it was completely closed. Multiple people stood outside waiting on their food that was already paid for. Somebody showed up to the restaurant after I had to call and get in contact with the Kempsville location to figure out what the hell was going on. Last time we went there, we sat for 25 minutes and never had a server greet us. We tried to give them a second try and this is what happened. I won't be returning back to this location. This is my first and likely last time. If things are neutral with a restaurant, not particularly good or bad, then I will give at least a 4 star. But today Wing King was more like a wing peasant. They were more than half empty on this Monday night but it took more than 40 minutes to be served our 15 wings and Philly cheese steak. When we got the food the wings were a bit over done and cold but the Philly was hot. It took a while to be seated and more time to be served and so forth. The Philly cheese steak was tasty though! Went here for the first time and ordered 10 original wings, 5 of the spicy and sweet and 5 of the spicy Parmesan garlic to go. I also ordered a side of jalapeño poppers and fried okra. Let's start of with the least important items: The fried okra was delicious, a smidge on the soggy side, but dipped in their ranch it was amazing. I had not had fried okra in years and this was definitely a great way to be reunited with one of my favorite appetizers. The jalapeño poppers were a little too hard and also seemed like they weren't coated properly. When I bite into a popper I want the other half to stay in tact intact; however, with these poppers, I would take a bite and the rest of the jalapeño would slide off. The flavor was alright, nothing special. Now to the main reason someone would to Wing King, the bottled water.... Joking... the wings of course. The wings were fantastic! They were cooked to perfection, and the sauce portion was excellent. Not too wet, not too dry. I personally liked the Spicy Garlic Parmesan the best; hands down the best wings I've ever had... and I've had a lot.. The spicy and sweet were great, just a bit too on the sweet side for me (personal preference and nothing against the restaurant or the way the wings were cooked cooked). So what's the final verdict? I was let down by the jalapeño poppers, but this isn't "Jalapeño Popper King", it's "Wing King" and their wings are spot on. Also side note, I ordered the food 20 minutes prior to pickup and the food was ready to go with no issues, so the service was great for a pickup order. This place gets a solid 4.5 stars out of 5 for me. I will most definitely be returning for some more Spicy Parmesan Garlic wings, and definitely looking forward to trying some of their other wing flavors. read more

I came here with my friend Isaac, because he had heard good things about it and because the wings were half priced on Monday. Immediately after walking in we realized that it was a sports bar hang out. It was packed because there was a football game on. It was a little awkward because we didn't know anything about sports, but we enjoyed the cheerful and friendly the ambience. To eat, I got a pound of spicy garlic wings with tater (potato) wedges, while my friend got a pound of the teriyaki wings. The wings were pretty good, and I loved the spicy garlic sauce; my friends teriyaki wasn't bad either. The sweet tea was on point as well. Isaac drank about 5 cups of it. The servers could have been a little more attentive though, but the service wasnt horrible. This place is pretty non-descript when you drive past it. In fact, I had no idea it was even here and I've lived in Virginia Beach for a long time. But we had a work luncheon here today and I have to say I was pretty impressed. First, I was the first to arrive and it was a large party of about 25 people or so at a long table they had set up past the bar in the back seating area. Our waitress at first seemed pretty rude and stand offish - she said some comments that were pretty condescending (for example the ladies at the table moved once to accommodate another gal who showed up and wanted to sit beside a friend and she said not to move anymore or it was going to be very confusing for her - but she didn't say it in a nice way and she basically reprimanded a group of 50 year old women so it was rocky at the start). She did quickly get us drinks and we reviewed the menu. The sweet tea I ordered was delicious - perfectly sweet and they didn't use too many tea bags as some places around here do and it tastes like I could chew the tea. Gross. Some people just don't realize sweet tea is a national treasure in the South and you have to make it right.... anyway, I digress. We informed the waitress that we wanted to go ahead and order (about 7 of us) because we had been sitting for a while and were hungry so she put all of our orders together. I ordered from the regular menu and ordered a caesar chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The waitress said they came sprinkled with cinnamon and had honey for dipping so I wanted to try them. I was torn because the lunch menu was reasonable and did have some good looking items on it - I wanted to try the boneless wings but maybe next time. You get a pound of wings with fries and a drink for $7. Not bad at all... It probably took about 30-40 minutes for our food to come out but we did see a lot of take-out orders going out during this time so I have to be reasonable. I was getting pretty grumpy by the time the food did come out because I normally eat lunch at 11am and because of this luncheon it was approaching 2pm and I still hadn't eaten food. BUT when the food finally did come out it was delicious. I've recently become a huge fan of sweet potato fries and these were the BEST I have ever had. I took a photo of them with the wrap so you can see if you review the photos. They are like crinkle wedged and they were fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned with the cinnamon and dipping them in the honey was soooo good. I would come back any day just to eat these babies. The wrap was also very good, the chicken was cooked well and it was well made. But the fries made it for me. It took a while to get to-go boxes and pay. But we only had the one waitress running around for our entire party and it was large, she also had other tables as well. All in all she did a pretty good job and she was much nicer as the meal progressed. Maybe she knew it was because we were getting ready to leave. Haha. I read reviews before driving over today on Yelp and I have to say the food was delicious. I agree with others that the service wasn't that great but I was a server and this gal was running her ass off. The service wasn't terrible, she just seemed a little annoyed about having such a large table which I can sympathize with from being a waitress in my younger days. But she did get us everything we needed and asked for while we were there and I left her a pretty large tip. The inside is much nicer than I expected from the looks of the place on the outside and they have a decent outdoor seating area like Xerxes mentioned in his review. I didn't smell smoke, maybe they changed their policies. The bathroom was clean and the decor was nice with a nice bar area. This place is pretty hit or miss every time I've gone. From the outside, it looks very sketchy and not appealing at all. There's a porch area that you have to go through to get inside, and 9/10 times I've walked in, I have not been greeted by a hostess (or anyone working for that matter), nor asked to be seated anywhere. I guess you just have to pick your own seat and hope someone sees you? Besides the "eh" service, the wings are great! I always get a pound of medium wings with potato wedges! The sauce has the perfect tang and the perfect amount of heat for me. I've also tried the X-Hot, which was good as well, but I prefer to feel my lips after eating :) There are some down falls though: I wouldn't advise you to order anything to go. Each time I have (the second, hoping it wouldn't be the same as the last), the wings had been dry, dry, DRY! And there was barely any sauce on them! That's the best part of getting hot wings! For the sauce!! Not to mention that everything was always sloppily put together. It was pretty disappointing both times.
