We had heard a lot of good things about Park Lane Tavern and decided to stop by for an early dinner after The Yelp Event for Earth Day at Sundae Scoop. Located just to the right as you enter kemps River Shopping Center from Kempsville Road. We were immediately seated. Our server took our drink orders and left us to look at the menu. Our drinks were served quickly. My Friend had a Martini and I had a glass of Red Moscato. Their menu had something for everyone. Once I saw Corned Beef & Cabbage I did not need to look any further. I love corned Beef & Cabbage. Theirs was perfect. Served with whipped potatoes and whole carrots. I asked our server if the potatoes could be substituted for a double order of cabbage the next time and she said she was sure it could but may have a little extra charge. My Friend chose Jagerschnitzel. A German dish consisting of hand-flattened, fried pork loin, topped with onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad and green beans. She seemed pleased with her choice. Park Lane gives a welcoming vibe that makes me think of the old TV show Cheers. The kind of place that makes you feel like everyone knows your name. Sit at the bar, a high top table near the bar and watch The Big Game or take a seat on the other end of the restaurant and have a Family dinner or maybe a table for two. Park Lane Tavern was just as good the second time as the first. My friend invited me for a very late lunch, since I don't normally have lunch. She and her husband go at least once a week, and almost always on half price Fish & Chips day, Guess what? It was Fish & Chips day, Since it has been a very bad week I ordered a Mimosa. Everyone in our party ordered Fish and Chips. I had cabbage substituted for the fries. The Fish was huge, fresh & tasty. My plan was to take half the fish home. It would be dinner with a Spinach Salad and fruit. That worked well. The Cabbage was wonderful. I can't wait to return and try the Corned Beef & Cabbage. Service was excellent. The Pub style atmosphere is inviting. The menu is quite varied with a number of European dishes. I've now had German and British. Next time my choice will be Irish. Had a pre-planned lunch date with a friend and she picked Park Lane Tavern. I had never been and she said it was great so I was game for going. It just happened to be St. Patrick's Day when we had our lunch date and the place was packed! Fortunately, parking was ample so that wasn't a problem. The wait was about 30 minutes which wasn't bad for how busy they were for the occasion. The restaurant was festively decorated with and they even had a bagpiper. He was playing outside and even made his rounds inside the restaurant. Our server was great. She knew the menu, was fast, and kept good tabs on us. I ordered the fish and chips which just happened to be a special on Tuesdays so it was only about $10. What a deal! It tasted light and fresh, and the fries were good too. It felt like they don't know what to do with solo diners. The place needs some updating, yes while it's a tavern could use better lighting and updated trendy decor. There was a time when a waitress adjusted the blinds by standing on table to roll it up, couldn't it be done before the restaurant opened? My food was good, I got the steak salad. Fish n chips in Va Beach! I've had authentic fish n chips and this IS that. Delicious! And in order to bring you the type of review you deserve, or course I had to get a burger too! Also top tier, the burger was juicy and delicious - and a nice size burger by the way not one of the puny ones that are getting more and more popular these days. Tasty, seasoned fries with both made this a great meal. The service was very good, all of our orders were on point even with a large party. I visited Park Lane a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so I decided to come back and I'm glad I did! I saw their Fluffy Seagull Espresso Martini featured on social media as a Thursday martini special. It was made with Peanut Butter Whiskey, Kahlua, Espresso and Fluff and looked amazing, so I called on a Friday to see if they could still make it for us. I was told they could, so we headed over to try it out. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we were told they ran out of Fluff, which was a bummer! We had them make the espresso martini anyway, and it was still pretty tasty. We started off with the Firecracker Shrimp and Florentine Mushrooms and both appetizers were absolutely delicious. The shrimp were fried to perfection, definitely a 10/10! For my entrée, I went with the Maker's Mark Bourbon Chicken and it was just as great. I ate the entire plate with no regrets lol! Our server was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better and the vibe is always nice and lowkey, which I enjoy. I go here often. I have never had a bad visit. I absolutely love the friendliness and service of the staff. The calamari is my favorite appititizer here due to it's like a steak not in rings a bodies like at most places. The martinis and bourbons are so good. The shepherd's pie is one of my favorites. Every time I have visited Park Lane I have been greeted by the staff member at the Host stand. Today 2 friends and I went to lunch to celebrate one of our friends birthday. We had a couple of bags of presents for our friend. The young man who seated us chose a perfect large booth for us. Our server was Alexis. She happened to have been our server in December. She is absolutely wonderful. She was patient, fun, helpful, engaging, knowledgeable, and so sweet. The 2 of us were pleased with the food we ordered, two of us got the chicken tenders and fries, and the other young lady ordered the cranberry chicken salad and she was happy with her salad. When we were finished eating Alexis made sure to give us lids to the plastic containers for our dips, the Styrofoam containers, and a plastic bag to carry our food home. I darn say that 90% of the servers never even offer a bag. That alone earns extra brownie points. The manager also deserves kudos for stopping by and checking on us. He did the same at our December lunch. The decor is very cozy and let's everyone escape for an hour or two to England. The kids fish and chips is the same food as comes with the adult meal. I checked because my kid has an appetite and sometimes I order the adult entree instead. Food: the food was great pub style food. I ordered a burger which was cooked perfectly and the fries were seasoned just right. A co-worker ordered the fish and chips to see what the hype was about and boy were we impressed. It was a single piece of fish the size of her forearm. It was cooked golden brown and crispy. Loved this visit! We were visiting from out of town.And based on previous reviews, we decided to stop in. Our waiter was so kind in explaining some of the featured entrees. Additionally, he was very knowledgeable about cocktails that were offered that may not have been on the menu, so that helped us to narrow down what we wanted. We settled on the brisket burger and the monte cristo sandwich, starting with fried pickles as the appetizer. In my humble opinion, the pickles could stand to be a little more tart, with a little less breading, but we're still tasty all around. I ran into the same overall breading issue with a monte cristo sandwich. There was only one layer of meat and cheese, the standard being 2-3 layers. Not worries, though, as it was still very good. Luckily the wait wasn't long at all (the staff works together to turn the tables), and we were seated at a booth near the bar. I ordered the Fish & Chips, with a side of gravy (I love chips & gravy, if you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it), and I was surprised, most places just don't do it right, but the bear battered haddock was cooked perfectly, it was flaky and moist throughout. Very good. My wife ordered the Bacon & Gouda Burger and was pleased. She also had the Blueberry smash, which I tasted, and was very good too. Service was timely, without being intrusive. Wife and I finally tried Park Lane after several recommendations from friends. We went on a Tuesday for their special Atlantic haddock filet with tavern fries 50%. Good amount of fish with a flavorful ale battered coating. We got there around 630 pm. Parking lot was packed. That fact alone told us we had made a good decision. 15 min wait to be seated at a high top. Hostess was very friendly and handled the traffic very efficiently. Our server was Alana and she did an excellent job at making drink suggestions. Even though she was swamped, she checked on us several times. The Tuesday special got us in the door but the excellent service will definitely bring us back. Definitely deserves our five stars! read more

Park Lane has been a solid choice for us and we enjoy dinner here every few months. It's a great option if you imbibe - their beer and liquor menus are extensive! The restaurant sits on Kempsville Road, right next to a Cinema Cafe. They have a private lot, but it gets pretty full on Friday & Saturday evenings when the theater is busy. On these evenings, we have seen substantial waits to dine in. When the restaurant is busy, it can be a bit loud, so be prepared for that if you're expecting a quieter meal. The food is always on point. On our recent visit, I got my usual Cobb salad and hubby tried the Shepherd's Pie. When our meals arrived, I wished I had ordered the same. The pie was not too heavy and the flavor of the filling was delicous! I stole more than one bite and I'm not sorry about it. The Cobb, as always, was fresh and loaded with chicken. I've occasionally gotten a salad with too much cheese, which might not be a complaint for others. When visiting with friends or family, they have also raved about the fish & chips and Wellington. They have nightly specials as well. Service has been solid on each visit. I highly recommend visiting when Anna is behind the bar. The food was merely adequate. My salmon was cooked well, but it had no flavor at all. There is no glaze or flavoring on the meat. There was a little bowl of watered-down butter with a few capers in it that I ended up pouring over the salmon. (no flavor of white wine or dill). That, plus salt and pepper made the salmon slightly tastier. I opted for just double asparagus instead of the potatoes and green beans. The asparagus was undercooked, but tasted good due to adequate salt. I would like a less crunchy vegetable that was still bright green with a buttery, slightly seared exterior. The service was very good. The servers I had were taking care of a large group and made sure we had what we wanted. The ambiance was fine. The fan strobed the light above our heads, but it was a comfortable space. The restaurant is a bit loud, so it's not a fine dining, relaxing space. More textiles and a bit of background music, with a hint of a fresh outdoorsy scent would help. I would NOT recommend this place. I want great flavor and good value for a restaurant that purports to be one step below real fine dining. The prices are much too high for something I can cook at home for way less. My friend told me that the Beef Wellington special on Wednesday was not good, as it was too tough and chewy. Disappointing. read more

They ran out of the cinnamon whiskey . The bartenders are amazing here they are used to large crowds and can handle it very well. They are super friendly there quite a few regulars that go there that really makes a place fun I go by myself, and I feel very comfortable because there is always someone to make conversation with at the bar. . They have huge bourbon, scotch and beer variety with very decent prices. Menu is English style. Fish and chips, etc. I got the firecracker shrimp and the corned beef sandwich. The shrimp were hot and crunchy with fried jalapeño slices. Not very spicy so don't be shy! Very good appetizer! The sandwich was cooked perfect. Nice crunchy toasted bread and yummy corn beef. Decided to venture outside of our regular after church brunch spot and check out Park Lane Tavern. This is a cute restaurant in Kempsville and was decorated with an Irishy kind of flair. There was bar/high top seating as well as regular table seating. There was somewhat low lighting inside but not sure if it was cause it was overcast or not outside. Was very happy to see there was a small brunch menu that is only on Sundays until 2pm. There are breakfast and beverage specials to choose from that looked delicious and well put together. Our two littles decided to ditch brunch and each order their own fish and chips and the husband and I each ordered one of their Benedicts. I ordered the Redneck bene and he ordered the Steak bene. The Redneck bene came out with one of the sunny side up eggs already popped and the egg looked like it's seen better days and the fried chicken was super tiny like a baby chicken nugget on each of the overbaked and dry halved biscuit. There was the tiniest little bit of sausage gravy in it as well. I was really disappointed with that choice. The steak bene looked juicy and delicious with a normal amount of hollandaise, steak cooked just right, a nice med rare, and perfect poached eggs. The specialty bacon he ordered on the side looked like it was cooked well. Husband ate both pretty quickly! The kids loved their fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly and was crunchy and the chip fries were thick and moist. I wouldn't say they were crunchy as well but they were large and thick steak fries type of fry. I'm not sure how many times I can review but this is by far our whole families favorite restaurant. The food is always good and the staff here are always exceptional. Tonight they had live music, Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch. They sent us home with Christmas crafts and all the staff are so amazing with kids. They really have the best kids meals.
