We can't help it... the prices are very reasonable for food and drinks - I may have to inquire about the Mug Club next time we talk in because the DownEast Blackberry Cider I ordered on draft was $7.50 per pint. The mug club you get a full mug (so 24 oz) for the price of one pint. I have to ask if there's rules on what beer you order but that will be in the next review.... on to the food! My husband got the shepherds pie and he said this was an easy 10/10 the lamb was cooked perfectly. Great seasoning and overall flavor this is a hit. I ordered the corned beef and cabbage... man it's going to be hard to try other things on the menu because this was actually perfect. Well, one thing I would LOVE to see is some gravy on the mashed potatoes or even on the side. The potatoes taste great themselves but something in this dish is lacking diverse flavor I feel like that would have brought everything together to make it 10/10. I will still get it again though! We had heard a lot of good things about Park Lane Tavern and decided to stop by for an early dinner after The Yelp Event for Earth Day at Sundae Scoop. Located just to the right as you enter kemps River Shopping Center from Kempsville Road. We were immediately seated. Our server took our drink orders and left us to look at the menu. Our drinks were served quickly. My Friend had a Martini and I had a glass of Red Moscato. Their menu had something for everyone. Once I saw Corned Beef & Cabbage I did not need to look any further. I love corned Beef & Cabbage. Theirs was perfect. Served with whipped potatoes and whole carrots. I asked our server if the potatoes could be substituted for a double order of cabbage the next time and she said she was sure it could but may have a little extra charge. My Friend chose Jagerschnitzel. A German dish consisting of hand-flattened, fried pork loin, topped with onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad and green beans. She seemed pleased with her choice. Park Lane gives a welcoming vibe that makes me think of the old TV show Cheers. The kind of place that makes you feel like everyone knows your name. Park Lane Tavern was just as good the second time as the first. My friend invited me for a very late lunch, since I don't normally have lunch. She and her husband go at least once a week, and almost always on half price Fish & Chips day, Guess what? It was Fish & Chips day, Since it has been a very bad week I ordered a Mimosa. Everyone in our party ordered Fish and Chips. I had cabbage substituted for the fries. The Fish was huge, fresh & tasty. My plan was to take half the fish home. It would be dinner with a Spinach Salad and fruit. That worked well. The Cabbage was wonderful. I can't wait to return and try the Corned Beef & Cabbage. Service was excellent. The Pub style atmosphere is inviting. The menu is quite varied with a number of European dishes. I've now had German and British. Next time my choice will be Irish. I wanted to come here for Father's Day to treat my dad, so I called ahead to see if they did reservations. They don't. So, we came here around 6:45 or so, and waited a bit to get a table. Not too long, though. Once we were seated, we looked over the menu, and it was hard finding one thing to get, it all sounded great! Our waitress was wonderful and gave us some of her recommendations, one of which was the artichoke dip. It was pretty good, in my opinion just needed a little salt. It was really packed with artichoke and spinach though, which was great! They give you just the right amount of pita bread to dip it into as well. After that, we decided to order our entrees, my dad opted for their bourbon chicken, and I got their salmon. Unfortunately, they were out of the chicken, so he instead got their steak, which wasn't that much of a difference. We are going to come back for him to try their chicken soon though! Our food came out not long after, and to my surprise the beurre blanc was a bit watery in consistency. Other than that, that was my only complaint. My dad's sauce on his dish was one of the most amazing sauce's I've ever had. I could probably eat it alone by the spoonful. His steak was cooked nicely, he asked for medium-rare. My salmon was cooked good as well. It was a very well balanced plate. Flavor wise, my vegetables needed a little more salt, but other than that it was perfect. The mashed potatoes were lovely though. As for dessert, my dad and I shared their brownie. It was very rich, and a bit dense. The ice cream really helped. Our drinks for the night were great as well. I had ordered a lavender martini I believe, and it was very floral and refreshing. I later got one of their limited time penalty shoot out shots, I forget which card it was, but it had the green tea in it, and it was amazing. It sounded like an odd but intriguing combo with Jameson (I believe, I can't remember), but it was like a green apple jolly rancher or something. I would definitely order that again. Service was a mixed bag: I was seated for about 7 minutes before anyone came by to my table even to acknowledge that someone would come by. But once when the waitress came, she was nice and friendly. It felt like they don't know what to do with solo diners. The place needs some updating, yes while it's a tavern could use better lighting and updated trendy decor. There was a time when a waitress adjusted the blinds by standing on table to roll it up, couldn't it be done before the restaurant opened? My food was good, I got the steak salad. Had a pre-planned lunch date with a friend and she picked Park Lane Tavern. I had never been and she said it was great so I was game for going. It just happened to be St. Patrick's Day when we had our lunch date and the place was packed! Fortunately, parking was ample so that wasn't a problem. The wait was about 30 minutes which wasn't bad for how busy they were for the occasion. The restaurant was festively decorated with and they even had a bagpiper. He was playing outside and even made his rounds inside the restaurant. Our server was great. She knew the menu, was fast, and kept good tabs on us. I ordered the fish and chips which just happened to be a special on Tuesdays so it was only about $10. What a deal! It tasted light and fresh, and the fries were good too. I visited Park Lane a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so I decided to come back and I'm glad I did! I saw their Fluffy Seagull Espresso Martini featured on social media as a Thursday martini special. It was made with Peanut Butter Whiskey, Kahlua, Espresso and Fluff and looked amazing, so I called on a Friday to see if they could still make it for us. I was told they could, so we headed over to try it out. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we were told they ran out of Fluff, which was a bummer! We had them make the espresso martini anyway, and it was still pretty tasty. We started off with the Firecracker Shrimp and Florentine Mushrooms and both appetizers were absolutely delicious. The shrimp were fried to perfection, definitely a 10/10! For my entrée, I went with the Maker's Mark Bourbon Chicken and it was just as great. I ate the entire plate with no regrets lol! Our server was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better and the vibe is always nice and lowkey, which I enjoy. Every time I have visited Park Lane I have been greeted by the staff member at the Host stand. Today 2 friends and I went to lunch to celebrate one of our friends birthday. We had a couple of bags of presents for our friend. The young man who seated us chose a perfect large booth for us. Our server was Alexis. She happened to have been our server in December. She is absolutely wonderful. She was patient, fun, helpful, engaging, knowledgeable, and so sweet. The 2 of us were pleased with the food we ordered, two of us got the chicken tenders and fries, and the other young lady ordered the cranberry chicken salad and she was happy with her salad. When we were finished eating Alexis made sure to give us lids to the plastic containers for our dips, the Styrofoam containers, and a plastic bag to carry our food home. I darn say that 90% of the servers never even offer a bag. That alone earns extra brownie points. The manager also deserves kudos for stopping by and checking on us. He did the same at our December lunch. The decor is very cozy and let's everyone escape for an hour or two to England. Loved this visit! We were visiting from out of town.And based on previous reviews, we decided to stop in. Our waiter was so kind in explaining some of the featured entrees. We settled on the brisket burger and the monte cristo sandwich, starting with fried pickles as the appetizer. In my humble opinion, the pickles could stand to be a little more tart, with a little less breading, but we're still tasty all around. I ordered the Fish & Chips, with a side of gravy (I love chips & gravy, if you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it), and I was surprised, most places just don't do it right, but the bear battered haddock was cooked perfectly, it was flaky and moist throughout. Wife and I finally tried Park Lane after several recommendations from friends. We went on a Tuesday for their special Atlantic haddock filet with tavern fries 50%. Good amount of fish with a flavorful ale battered coating. We got there around 630 pm. Parking lot was packed. That fact alone told us we had made a good decision. 15 min wait to be seated at a high top. Hostess was very friendly and handled the traffic very efficiently. Our server was Alana and she did an excellent job at making drink suggestions. Even though she was swamped, she checked on us several times. The restaurant sits on Kempsville Road, right next to a Cinema Cafe. They have a private lot, but it gets pretty full on Friday & Saturday evenings when the theater is busy. On these evenings, we have seen substantial waits to dine in. When the restaurant is busy, it can be a bit loud, so be prepared for that if you're expecting a quieter meal. The food is always on point. On our recent visit, I got my usual Cobb salad and hubby tried the Shepherd's Pie. When our meals arrived, I wished I had ordered the same. The pie was not too heavy and the flavor of the filling was delicous! I stole more than one bite and I'm not sorry about it. The Cobb, as always, was fresh and loaded with chicken. I've occasionally gotten a salad with too much cheese, which might not be a complaint for others. When visiting with friends or family, they have also raved about the fish & chips and Wellington.
