Probably our last time here. Seems this joint is getting even shabbier around the edges than it had already been. Anyway: they tried the Sunday buffet thing, and as we both liked their food on previous occasions we figured we would give it a whack. It wasn't at all crowded when we got there a little past 1pm. For a $10 buffet, I figured otherwise. Should've been a clue of what was to come. They had many of the usual stand-by items more frequently seen from a Chinese menu...hot n sour soup, fried rice, Krab Rangoon, egg rolls, lo mein, etc. All of it was serviceable without doubt. Sign near register/host stand area even puts it plainly. "Buffet cooked with MSG." So I've been warned but at least I didn't get tightness of chest or the hives afterward. Yay, me! One thing they coulda done was make sure the food was hot. Most of it was lukewarm at best. Even when a new pan of (let's just say lo mein for argument's sake) food came out, it was barely hot at all! I don't think how you keep customers with upkeep like that. Only desert, if you wanna call it such, was a large bowl of fruit cocktail. Obviously canned, at that. I still love their egg rolls. However when they're only tepid and laying in a pan of cool grease, one might find it a wee bit unattractive from a culinary point of view. In the plus category, our waitress was a true sweetheart. She came back just often enough to refill water a couple of times and clear off old plates. She then excused herself to get some fresh air (i.e. light up) and swung back around a few minutes later. Meanwhile she was busy with the few other tables in the joint who preferred ordering from the menu proper. When we entered, there were four other tables with folks plus a couple at the bar. By the time we left, 'twas just the two women sitting in the next booth. When the younger of the two ordered a burger, I was quite mystified. I even asked the waitress; she validated that, saying they've got some of the best burgers around. She had 9 burger orders the day previous! So I asked her whether the local McDonald's had good egg rolls too. I don't quite think she got it. As a long time restaurant here in the hinterlands of northern Maine, I don't think Wing Wah got it either. In fact, I think they simply LOST it to benign indifference and just overall complacency. Ive tried. Ive really, really tried. The food is disgusting. I'm from Boston. From authentic to joints like this one, including many Japanese restaurants, I know my food. Trust me. From yesterday's stale fried snacky things, to BBQ spare ribs, which may someday bring a lawsuit. Ive choked more then once, BECAUSE...(THEY CANT BE CHEWED). Ive been here 7 years. Every year is worse. Be prepared for EXTREMELY uncomfortable seeting as surely, these barely cushioned benches are about to be on the floor soon. They still had pieces of Christmas cotton and old ( off holiday decor, or parts of ) glued to an overhang. Nobody cares enough here. Never seen but another (possibly 2) tables with other folks. I would never badmouth a waitress, and realize this is a very small town, but I don't see very enthusiastic bubbly personalities there...ever. Even with just a few tables full, the chaos and loud voices from the kitchen seem unprecedented making it difficult to enjoy my company. I used to love Wing Wah. The food was always great. Stopped in for lunch for the first time in a few years, and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The food was disgusting! Some of it tasted like it was cooked days ago. My husband's sesame chicken looked like molasses was dumped on it and it was soggy. He said it tasted like it was fried in month-old grease. The rice was room temp. We only took a couple bites. The waitress saw our untouched food and asked if we wanted boxes, which we declined because it was that disgusting. We paid our tab, tipped her, and left. Then we both ended up getting sick. Sad, because this place is so nostalgic to me. I'll never go back. The wait staff was very nice though. We drive by this place on the way to East Grand Lake. Due to its goofy name and the crumbling faux-tudor exterior, I knew one day we would have to try it. Wing Wah's interior is dark and depressing,with faded decor and well-worn carpet. When we visited it was nearly Halloween, so spider webs and plastic pumpkins competed with paper fans and lanterns. Everything about this place screams of the old school Chinese/Polynesian food of my youth. Back then we thought this food was so exotic it must be good, and if not the mai-tai's would help. For better or worse, my expectations were met. You gotta love a place that prints "we use MSG" right on the menu. We ordered several hot appetizers: spare ribs, wings and egg roll. Went there today and let's say the waitress should be put out to pasture!!!! First we waited 20 minutes for her to come over and she is in fact a true bleached blonde losing her mind. She never asked us if we wanted something to drink, so we had the water that the hostess brought us. She took our order and disappeared into the kitchen and never came back until food was done, usually we are brought crispy noodles before the meal, nope we had to ask for them and when we did, the waitress hit herself upside the head and mumbled something and walked away. She never came back to our table until we flagged her down for our meals to be boxed, I asked her for extra crispy noodles for my take home meal and nope not in my bag. While you should be selective about which dish you order, I've ordered take-out from Wing Wah several times this Covid 19 - strained July, and felt safe and that it offered large servings at a reasonable price. Still the best Chinese restaurant on my list. They have never let me down from the quality of the dishes to the friendly service. I've been coming here for years and have tried many of the dishes. I feel bad giving this review but it was so bad. I was so sad about it cause I just moved nearby and Chinese food is my favorite and I eat out a lot. The beef on a stick had to have been sitting out for awhile to be THAT cold and dry theirs no way from the time I called to picking it up it was cooked and cooled not possible. I have no idea why anyone would eat here. Anyone who gives this restaurant a review any greater than 2 stars lacks any sort of culture or knowledge of what truly good food should taste like. The pork fried rice was absolutely flavorless. How do you manage to fry something in pig fat and have it come out sans any flavor?! It makes zero sense. The "filet" of steak is served on a stick and resembles in both flavor and presentation beef jerky reconstituted in dirty dish water. The chicken tasted like it had been boiled in the same dish water, and had the mouth feel of something straight out of a can. The BBQ short rib wasn't BBQ, so much as that red sugar water you feed hummingbirds. The only saving grace was out waitress, who was lovely and somewhat apologetic at how miserable the food was. I love Lincoln and wanted to help out a non-chain restaurant, but this was literally the worst "Chinese" food I've ever had. The amount of soy sauce used in every dish is indescribable. The fried rice was almost black! You might as well just pour a full container of salt on every dish. I couldn't taste anything else at all. My husband got the General's chicken which was covered in goo (apparently the "sauce") and was nearly inedible. Not Chinese food in the strictest sense of the word, and not a place for those who avoid sodium, MSG, or fat. But you're in Maine now, and Wing Wah is exemplary of what we Mainers CALL Chinese food. A TALE OF TWO TABLES. The food was ok but I've grown accustomed and expected only ok. I have been here many times going back over 30 years and I know this is not a 5 star restaurant but we ARE in Northern Maine and one shouldn't expect 5 star cuisine. The real Issue I had was with the first person to greet us. A younger gal, there were two staffing the front counter, the one we had an issue with was the bigger of the two. Upon entering she attempted to get our phone number and suggested we leave and she will call when a table opens. We could see there was a table open NOW but it had to be cleaned. No big deal, we'll wait. She again suggested we leave and she would call but we had just driven 20 miles to get here. Just then a waitress said just a moment and the table will be ready. Not long after it became clear why she wanted us to leave. The next table that emptied the same front girl set the table and placed a beer in the center, even though no one was there or even waiting. We overheard her tell the waitress her mom and grandmother were coming. I can appreciate her wanted to look after her mom and grandmother but I DO NOT appreciate her asking us to leave so her mom could have this table. I must say I did get very good service from our waitress. It was the older and shorter woman and we have had her as a server before and have alwsys had great service from her. For these reasons three stars for the restaurant, ZERO stars for the front gal and 4.5 stars from our server. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever experienced. Before they sat us the warned us that there were drunk locals in the bar that were loud and using the F word, and they had asked them to keep it down, (which they did not do.)Not only did we have to listen to drunk idiots cuss while we had children with us, my husband didn't receive what he wanted, and instead of correcting it, the manager jumped down his throat and tried to make it his fault. I have never been to a restaurant where a manager acted like that. My husband wasn't trying to get free food, just wanted the food he ordered. Never did enjoy Wing Wahs. Don't get me wrong, the customer service has always been delightful but their food always left me disappointed. During several visits my food would either be dry or swimming in so much soy sauce that it just wasn't enjoyable. Personally I avoid this restaurant at all costs if possible. I salute you, Wing Wah, for being in a small, middle-of-nowhere town in which good food is NOT required since the people of Lincoln do have to eat somewhere, and yet you have excellent Chinese food anyway. I praise you also for having the nicest, most patient waitresses on the planet, who take everything in stride with a smile and even a hug on the way out. The name of the restaurant is the best...Wing Wah! Fun to say, and it definitely hints at the great times to be had inside its doors. My entire extended family makes an annual trek up to Lincoln every 4th of July to gather at Egg Pond for lake house relaxation, and we always do at least one night here. The memories made when my family gets together at this restaurant are just priceless. The heated debating over what to order raises in volume as the never ending flow of scorpion bowls and Mai Tais are delivered to the table, and the numerous heaping plates of calorie-laden yet heavenly appetizers are passed around as the feast is shared by all. Our most recent waitress should get a prize for staying calm and almost motherly in the face of our rowdy pack. She recommended the salt and pepper wings and she nailed it-just like the regular ones with a nice, salty kick. The hot and sour soup had a unique, darker, meatier tasting broth and the perfect balance of flavor. As an added bonus, there were squeeze bottles of duck sauce and hot mustard ready on the table along with fried wonton strips so we could drown our food as much as we wanted to and start eating something immediately, because who can wait for anything anymore? Tragically, we forgot to order crab rangoons this last visit, but they are also fried perfection. I have never disliked anything on the menu, and most items are above your average Americanized-Chinese hole in the wall. What can I say? The crab rangoons are made from scratch with fresh wonton wrappers, the egg rolls are home made from scratch, the sha sha chicken is to DIE for, and the bartenders are the BEST. What a great drink, Bartenders are more than attentive, Your drink is ALWAYS being refilled. The atmosphere is dive-ish, but who cares?
