I stayed here for one night recently for a business trip. PROS: -Nice lobby and welcoming staff -I believe they have a pool, though I didn't use it -The rooms are comfortable and have HUGE bathrooms. For some reason, I was put in a room with two beds (and it was just me) but the rooms are your typical size. There are tons of charging outlets all over the room, plus a TV and drawers. -Breakfast was fantastic, for a continental breakfast. They had a "make your own omelette" station with someone manning it and doing custom omelettes - you can choose what you want in it. (I don't like eggs, but this was a nice touch) Also they have a make your own waffle machine, and tons of continental options like cereal, bagels, muffins, etc. I do wish they offered soy milk (I can't do dairy milk) but oh well. -The rooms have a microwave, a mini-fridge, and tea and coffee options. -I saw they do a complimentary USA Today, and when we arrived they had complimentary cookies too. MEH: -Bed was just okay. I didn't realize until I was getting to sleep that there's no comforter - it's just a regular sheet, a slightly more thick sheet, and I think one other one. CONS: -There's no restaurant in the hotel, I believe. I got in my first night and was super hungry, we did a small happy hour with my work group but it was mostly cheese/crackers, fruit, and wine. They do have a small pantry area where you can purchase things, I spied some snacks and would be curious to see if they had other stuff like microwaveable pizzas, etc. -The charging areas in the rooms are SUPER, SUPER SLOW. I thought maybe it was just the cord I was using (I was using an iPhone cord to charge an iPad), but in their meeting room the next day, the same thing occurred - it took about 60 minutes to charge my iPad by 30%. Same for both my iPhone and my personal (Android) phone, but luckily I had about 7-8 hours to charge those, overnight. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel - I can't speak as to how it compares to other Bismarck hotels, but for the rooms were nice and both the lobby/staff are nice as well.

Receptionist was very kind and professional, room was very clean, modern, huge bathroom, bed was comfy, Mini fridge, desk to do paperwork, and also it was right by everything in town . I recommend to anyone coming to visit the area.

I have a lot of patience for hotels. I travel all of the time. I understand that things happen and that there is no such concept of a perfect hotel. This place, however, really let me down. 1.) We called to check-in. We were told by the front desk they were ready. When we arrived he said that they would not be able to check us in. Completely destroyed our plans for the rest of the day. 2.) When we got into our room it literally smelled like human body odor. 3.) We had no room service for the entire duration of our 4 day stay. On the second day, I told the housekeeping staff to PLEASE clean our room and they did not. I called the front desk and she told me that she could do nothing. 4.) The parking lot was not maintained and was not shoveled. Cars were literally stuck inside. 5.) Winter! One of the reasons I booked this hotel was so that I could use the "amenities". The spa was out of service the entire four days. They promised it would be fixed by the last day. It wasn't. 6.) The gym equipment was broken. I told the front desk. Nothing was done. 7.) The WIFI is sub-dial up. Almost worse than not having anything. 8.) The only positive experience I had was the breakfast. The staff there was awesome and they did a really nice job.

After driving 7hrs we go to check in at 538pm, told my room might not be ready. check out is 11am, check in 4pm so 5 1/2 hours and the room isn't ready. I spend 25minutes in the lobby waiting to see if I can check in with three toddlers in the car. We get to the room finally, instantly smells like just body odor, or masked smoke smell and the room is just dingy. The couch with the hideaway bed is got brown stains around the sides and cigarette burns on the cushion, we go and pull out the hideaway bed and they have a twin mattress in a obviously queen frame, so there is a twin mattress surrounded by metal bed frame. in addition a sheet is on it with pink nail polish stains. Next to the couch the electrical outlet is missing the cover. Bedroom isn't much better, the lamp in the corner is leaning against the wall, it's broken and propped up. Bathroom lacks any amenities a hotel should have, not even soap. A rainstorm passes through, every single window leaks, water is pouring down from the window seals pooling on the sill and dripping down into the air-conditioning unit in the living room and bedroom. You have to ask to have your room cleaned due to covid restrictions, I asked and nobody showed up, no towels, no trash taken out, that's all we asked. I brought all this up to the manager on dayshift (I think his name was Jesse or Jason), he wrote it down assured me the maintenance man come in at 9am and a minimum the electrical covers and water leaking in would be taken care of. We went out for the day and returned 11hrs later to not a single thing done to the room. So I gave the hotel a chance to make this right and was presented with a huge slight, for the money, don't waste it on this hotel, it's poorly maintained, dingy and disgusting.

WTF happened to the cinnamon rolls? Seriously, due to snowstorm on my route home, I pulled up a list of available hotels and selected this property over the Candlewood Suites almost exclusively due to HIE breakfast and, in doing so, paid an extra $40. The breakfast was great and the guy working there was helpful, friendly and very attentive. But those "new and improved" Cinnabon rolls were a total let-down. While they smelled good, they were lukewarm, too dense and largely taste-less. If I wanted taste-less mass prepared breakfast pastries I'd have stayed at the dozens of other hotel options. Instead, I stayed here for the awesome cinnamon rolls that HIE hotels are known for. I know you still have them - I had 2 on Tuesday morning in Fargo. I can only surmise that Cinnabon is paying you a ton of "dough" to proudly display their logo and serve their rolls. Don't get me wrong - I love Cinnabon rolls. But these are not normal Cinnabon rolls - these are some kind of 2nd rate imposters that obviously come frozen and then are thawed and slightly warmed to room temperature. I've had better cinnamon rolls out of vending machines. You are going to lose more money than you make on this deal. Am I overreacting here? If you think so then you don't understand the importance of breakfast pastries or the pure joy of eating a traditional HIE cinnamon roll. They are pastries that just simply make you happy and ready to face the day. The new ones made me want to go back to bed. This started as a 1 star review but this hotel is great and the people are awesome - it's not their fault that the corporate people are morons. But the cinnamon rolls are a differentiating factor for Holiday Inn Express. You've lost that now. And me.

After a 24-hour drive from Seattle, I arrived to find an empty, lifeless lobby--no fireplace, no other guests, and even the small retail counter was completely bare. The only staff member present appeared very young and visibly unprofessional, with hickeys covering her neck. I had my ID and credit card ready and simply mentioned that I was a returning guest and asked for the best available room rate. That should have been straightforward. Instead, I stood waiting for about 15 minutes before she told me she needed to call her boss. When I asked if there was a problem, she explained that it was her first day, she didn't know what she was doing, and that she had been left alone at the front desk. That was the breaking point. After an exhausting drive, I wasn't interested in being someone's training exercise. I asked for my card back and left to stay elsewhere. This experience points to one thing: poor management. Leaving an untrained employee alone to run an entire hotel--especially during the holidays--is unacceptable. It's disappointing, because I've historically had good experiences with La Quinta and expected better. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this location.

As far as the Home2Suites hotel goes, the room we had was large and clean. We were only there for one night, but there was an entire living room in addition to the king suite and bathroom. We booked our room a year in advance, yet somehow ended up in a handicap-accessible room that we never requested. Apparently reservations are more of a fun suggestion than an actual system. The shower was an unforgettable experience. The shower head had water pressure that was fine and shocking coming from what looked like a 2nd hand store showerhead, complete with mold for that authentic "nature spa" feel. The shower itself also featured mold, because apparently cleanliness is considered optional here. The pool? Let's just say if you've ever wanted to swim in what looked like a science fair experiment, this is your chance. The water was murky with green residue clinging to the sides. I wasn't sure whether to swim or call environmental services. To be fair the hotel did realize this fact and shut down the pool for repairs. Good for them. Breakfast was equally adventurous. The hash browns were somehow both warm and still raw. The bacon looked like it had merely been introduced to heat and then immediately removed before things got too serious. If you're on a strict raw-food diet, you'll love it. Our room came with a broken garbage disposal, which was fitting because nothing else seemed to work either. The pull-out sofa bed didn't have pillows. Not one. Not in the sofa bag nor anywhere in the room, we had to wait for the front desk find their hunting license and hunt the pillow fluff animal down. They were finally successful about 1/2 hour later. Maybe they were being protected as historical artifacts or endangered species, who knows at that point. Speaking of historical artifacts, we also discovered what appeared to be petrified animal poop in the room. I'm no archaeologist, but I'm fairly certain it had been there long enough to qualify for the National Register of Historic Places. Outside wasn't any better. The fire pit was broken, with pieces scattered around just waiting to slice someone's foot open. Nothing like a good 'ol potential tetanus shot while on vacation. The patio cushions looked like they had lost a fight with a pack of raccoons, and the patio itself was decorated with cigarette butts and trash. Very classy. The hallways featured broken light fixtures, giving the place just enough horror movie atmosphere to make you wonder if you'd survive the night. Yet, whenever we tried finding maintenance...well...good luck. They seemed to exist only as local legends. As for management, I'm beginning to suspect the manager is either Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster as everyone talks about them, but nobody has actually seen one. The staff was super nice but all seemed incredibly new, as if they had been hired earlier that morning and handed a name tag with the words, "Good luck." Our room had a kitchenette, a sitting area, and a separate bedroom. We all liked the breakfast options, as well. For the cons, it just seems like the hotel has been neglected over the years. A lot of the furniture was worn and in need of replacement. The blinds in the bedroom were broken. And there were several ick factors - the bathroom tub area, stains on the carpet, etc... It just felt a bit run down. Also, our room had a locked closet that seemed to have an A/C unit or HVAC of some sort. The sound was so loud that it kept our children awake and legitimately scared them. If you are fine with having a bit more of a rundown hotel and need a room with a lot of space, then this is your place. If you are someone who likes cleanliness, though, you may be turned off by the state of the rooms.

I had also purchased travel insurance because I believed I would be protected if something unexpected happened. As soon as the tournament was canceled, I contacted the hotel hoping they would work with a repeat customer. Instead, I received no meaningful assistance. The manager would not return my calls or speak with me directly, and my emails went unanswered. Choice Hotels customer service simply pointed back to the hotel's cancellation policy and offered no solution. At no point did anyone seem interested in the fact that I had been a loyal customer who had brought significant business to this property over the years. I understand that hotels have cancellation policies. My disappointment isn't with having policies--it's with the complete lack of customer service, communication, and willingness to work with a loyal guest when circumstances outside of our control canceled the reason for our trip. A one-time exception, a credit toward a future stay, or any effort to keep a repeat customer would have gone a long way.
