Stayed at Wingate by Wyndham recently and there were some pros and cons. I like that is pretty central to everything on the strip, so the most you will drive might be 15 minutes. Most locations are 7 or less. Love that they have free breakfast because most hotels no longer do that. Also love the pool and jacuzzi and that they are not super strict about kicking you out at 10 P.M. the jacuzzi is also super hot and stays hot. Beds are very comfortable as well. Some cons are the room is pretty standard. You can tell some updating could be used and that it's an older hotel. Upon walking in, we noticed that the shower had some hair in it and could definitely be cleaner and there was some muck on the door. If you're sleeping while housekeeping comes by and you tell them to come back they never come back. If you're staying somewhere for a couple days you definetly want your room tidied up, fresh towels, trash thrown out etc ... Some of the staff at the front could be friendlier. You're in customer service, so if someone has an issue or expresses it, you should show some type of empathy. Not sure if I'd stay here again, but was an ok stay. read more

We had an amazing stay at Wingate. JULY 17-20, 2025. We booked through MRG Vacations and it was perfect everything was taken care of before we got there. We arrived a little early and was able to check in early with no problem. Very convenient as there is a gas station , restaurants, nail salons, grocery store all right there. The pool was refreshing and the beach is a 10 minute drive. It was absolutely beautiful. We saw fireworks on the beach. The sunsets look like something from the movies or a postcard. The food was great, the beaches were not crowded at all the water was warm and we can't wait to go back. read more

Average hotel, outrageous prices. On our last night staying at this hotel the doors battery died. Took over an hour for any maintenance, with management having no clue when they would arrive not to mention rude and have 0 sense of urgency. Would not come again and save your money by sleeping in your car than here. Includes free breakfast. read more

Booked here based on the ratings/reviews and for the hot breakfast. Needless to say the breakfast was the biggest disappointment. Monday ran out of bacon and by time they were making it we had to head out for games. The rest of the week all they had was patty sausage which I hate so needless to say I never got to enjoy more than some toast or a bowl of cereal and waffle. The scrambled eggs were blah and the folded egg had cheese which I was disappointed with. Our room was okay the floor was sandy upon our arrival but it's a beach town and we knew we would only add to it. Our curtains where a little battered and had seen better days. Just would mop the floor since it's linoleum kind of felt a little grimy for bare feet so I slipped on my flip-flops but no biggie on that. We stayed here for the same reason everyone else stayed. It was a last minute and every other hotel was booked. I asked the staff what star level the hotel rated he ensured me 4 stars. Upon entering the room, the air quality was low, the shower wasn't all that white, and the desk chair had what appeared to be a white substance splattered on the chair. The beds aren't comfy as we liked but we made the best out of our one night stay. Definitely a last minute resort. read more

I have to say I was pretty disappointed with this place. We checked in went to our room and noticed the main item in room (bed) was slanted, looked broken. Maintenance staff came up and tore apart bed, the bottom frame was cracked causing whole bed to tilt towards headboard. Please tell me how a housekeeper could make the bed and not notice. I feel house keeping is lacking, not spotless, very dingy. Also had the smallest coffee cups I've ever seen at the breakfast. First of all, I rarely ever write a review. Nothing is perfect nor do we expect it to be. In over 35 years of being in Destin, Wingate by Wyndham is by far the worst hotel we have ever experienced. (This location is in Destin proper near the entrance to Holiday Isle.) We are not tourists on vacation, but needed a room for visiting family. We had noticed the hotel was being built very quickly and, on the inside, it is very obvious. PVC pipe is used to "hide" wiring to the wall mounted light fixtures rather than it being behind the sheet rock which is safe...and the norm, the bathroom appears to have been built in the '70s and patched ever since, the hallways are damp and musty, and the walls have no more insulation than required, if they're insulated at all. The front desk was not concerned with helping us with our many noise complaints. This is by far our worst experience with Wyndham. Yes, this is the same Wyndham, Wyndham Vacation Resorts, responsible for the Emerald Grande. read more

Hotel is in desperate need of a remodel. Lobby and hallways both omit a strange odor. Drywall seams are coming undone. The room we were in appeared to be missing furniture as there was a large empty space in the corner of the room where a chair normally would be. Carpet was stained and worn out in spots. My biggest complaint however was in the bathroom, the toilet paper was just laid under the counter with no dispenser to Put it on and the shower did not drain properly. I made a reservation just one day in advance in peak season (mid-July) and was given a room close to the entrance as requested (due to being on crutches). The beds were comfortable, and the sheets were clean, as was the rest of the room. It appeared well-maintained, as well. The front desk was friendly and efficient. And the (tasty) complimentary cookies made the lobby smell delicious. It's not a resort. You won't see the ocean from your window. But it's a comfortable, clean, and convenient stay at a reasonable price. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN A DESPERATE SITUATION! My husband left his key in our room in their desk drawer and forgotten to grab them on our way out. We realized it and went to pick it up only to receive one key that resembled mine. Drove home with it and the key didn't turn or work so I called the hotel and was given the run around about only housekeeping can only check for me and I would receive a phone call and never once gotten one phone call from the hotel about my missing key. I couldn't speak to higher management either. This has been my worse customer service I've ever received. read more

The service is what kills this place, I know this is a little on the economical side, but when you stay in a hotel there is some kind of hospitality that is expected from the employees. The hospitality aspect of this hotel is trash. The people at the front desk glare at you as if they don't want to be there and they simply hate their jobs. I asked for extra towels numerous times, and was never brought any until I went downstairs to get them myself, after this they cleaned and serviced our room, but never filled up the towels until we went down to the front desk. The continental breakfast was mediocre. I wish they would've had more options. They just have some crappy "omletes", and either bacon or sausage for the major items. The rest is pretty standard 4 breads, some yogurt. Milk. Two of the five mornings I ate there, the juice machine was out of all or most of the juices, the employees were not at all worried about replacing it, because it took them about 30 minutes of people complaining to do it. The room was basically, you get what you pay for, they were small two bed rooms with a desk and a small chair for lounging. All in all I will not stay here again, if you just want somewhere to sleep and walk in and out of without asking for anything, and expect crappy service from employees this is the place for you. The overall mood of the employees is just dreadful and this is what kills the enjoyment of the stay. read more

My message light was blinking on my phone, when I called the front desk to retrieve it, they could not hear me. Then I went to the front desk and they could not retrieve the message. This was a great place to stay. Everyone was friendly. Check in with Rickiela was there best. She was courteous, and accommodating. The room was clean, the bed was soft, and everyone had a smile on their face that I encountered. The breakfast line was long because the employees make the food (which I like). They could've easily stopped it altogether. I felt sorry for the guy making the waffles, because his line stayed long. We waited for about 45 min total, but it was free and worth the wait. The pool was nice, not too cold. The hot tub was just right! The location is nice and quiet. We walked to a Wynn Dixie to get some items. It's not on the beach, but they say it was a mile away. I wouldn't say this is a 5 star hotel, but I was pleased with everything! I'd say it's 3.5-4 for sure. I had a great experience here. read more

If this review was based on staff friendliness it would be a 5 star review, however it is based on our entire experience at Wingate and that deserves no more than 2 stars. My fiance and I checked in on a Friday for a wedding that was to take place on the beach on Sunday. We were surprised to find that the Wingate is actually off of a street off the main strip and so it's a good mile from the ocean. This is, of course, not their fault but it's just a heads up for anyone thinking of staying here. The first problem began when we had no wifi despite that being a listed amenity. And when I say no wifi I mean no wifi anywhere on the premises. When we brought this up to the staff they were very apologetic and gave us a number to call to report problems. When we called we were told that there are intermittent outages and that the problem should be resolved by Saturday. It wasn't, in fact we didn't have wifi when we checked out on Tuesday. If you list free wifi as an amenity it's really important that it's working because I had to use a lot of cell data to simply check my work email. The second problem is with the pillows on the bed. They are seriously tiny, like comically tiny and in no way a standard pillow. That was incredibly uncomfortable and frustrating and I just can't understand why there weren't normal pillows on the beds! We won't be back. The staff is nice but when we return to Destin we'll be staying on the beach. read more

This hotel is seriously terrible. I was shocked that the hotel itself had 3 stars as the rooms are old, the bathroom has cracked tiles on the floor and the sink is cracked. I stayed here as part of a wedding party and when we first arrived we were told that our room was not available and that there was a full house the night before. We, then later found out that half of the hotel is closed for remodeling, there was no full house, half the rooms are just not available. The fitness room consists of one elliptical and one treadmill. The rooms smell like cheap cleaner and the staff can't even follow through on a request for clean towels. I asked the front desk three times about clean towels for our room and over an hour later they still did not arrive. I had to go down and get them myself the fourth time. If I return to Destin, I will not be staying at this hotel or any of the Wingate hotels. Overall, save your money and do not stay here. read more

First off, we used Wyndham Rewards points to pay for this room. If we had paid money, I would have been very upset. If you are the kind of person that looks forward to a cold hotel room, you won't find that here. The hallways are hot and the rooms never get that cold. "Queen size" actually means "Full size" so for four adults, we were squished and sweaty throughout the night. There were gnats all over the room and the shower didn't drain. The fridge froze our food so we asked maintenance to change the temp since there was no knob. They never came to change it and on our second to last day, housekeeping never came so we didn't have toilet paper and we had a ton of trash in the room. There was also quite a bit of mold near the bottom of the bath tub from lack of cleaning. The only good thing I can say is that the beds were comfortable. We travel a lot! And although the room was very nice and clean, I cannot recommend staying here. It was New Year's weekend and the place was full. I quickly realized the walls were paper thin. I could hear the man in the room next-door snoring, the baby down the hall crying, and the TV playing in the room on the other side of us. Thank God for my White Noise app on my phone or I could have never fallen asleep. Unfortunately it didn't stop there. The next morning while taking a shower, I literally ran out of hot water. Run out of hot water at a hotel?!? How can this happen? An hour later, I finally got to take my shower. It's too bad, because I really liked the room when we first checked in. We stayed at the Wingate for spring break 2010. Some great upside was the location which was less than 5 minutes from any beach, 5-10 minutes from any restaurant or mall, and the price was outstanding. Some drawbacks were the bed was not the most comfortable, they only give 2 pillows or towels unless you ask for more, the breakfast is very limited, and the pool area small. Overall it was a fine place to crash after a long day. read more

I would have given this hotel one star...the manager, Elvin, saved it lol. When me and my family first arrived it was disappointing. It's an old hotel. Not very clean. Dust and dirt in corners and on doors. Stains all on chairs and floors. We switched room shortly after arriving bc there was still first in the shower and hair on the sink and in the bed! Even in our new room i was finding hairs that weren't mine. when we switched room my boyfriend accidentally left something of high value and it was accidentally throw away by the cleaner and she had no idea where it went. I even went through the trash downstairs where the cleaners put it. I don't think it was stolen as it would only benefit me to have it and not another person. That has nothing to do with this review but the way elvin handled the situation made me feel like he did all he could to retrieve the item. The only other positives are that they have a decent breakfast in the morning. Other than that everything is old and dirty and I'll never stay there again. Plus the website i went through was advertising it had beach access but you have to drive to get to the beach...so watch out for that. It's not direct beach access!!! The whole experience with this place got off on the wrong foot. We booked this hotel online through Wyndam reservations as any other hotel, with a credit card of course. On the day of the reservation I get a call from from the hotel stating that we have a room booked and the reservation will be canceled by 3 pm CT if I didnt provide a credit card. That's not a problem, ok so someone at Wyndam dropped the ball, but you don't call someone and give them 30 minutes notice to cancel their reservation. Here we are at our first day on the beach in Destin and I'm 15 minutes walking distance from the car where all my cc info and reservation info is. If my phone weren't sitting next to me in the sand (which I don't know why it was, I go to the beach to relax and not to stress) than we would have been SOL. Not only was the this hotel booked, but every other one in town as well. If they didn't have the credit card info (that I had given them in the first place)then they should have called me that morning and not 30 minutes notice to cancel someone's room. Totally inconsiderate! The rest of the stay was hit and miss. More issues I won't go into except one of them being locked out of our room for an hour with me going back and forth downstairs to the front desk reminding them that we were sitting up in the hallway waiting to get in our room. It finally got resolved, but with no urgency whatever. The hotel is nice overall, but starting to show some where in certain areas. The only thing that kept me from rating two stars was the breakfast. They kept everything fully stocked with the place being always full of people and also had a wide variety of hot and cold breakfast, which is really helpful when you have kids. Also, there is a lot of door slamming going on late at night. It didn't bother me but woke some of my family up several times throughout the night. The staff was so nice. I accidentally booked a smoking room. We didn't arrive until after 10pm and all the non-smoking rooms were booked. Wingate offered to place an Ozone machine in the room to help remove any smoke smell if we were willing to wait 15 minutes. We agreed to wait. We were assigned a room and given our keys. In the meantime, the gentleman at the front desk checked a few open rooms and found a different room that had little to no smoke smell. He had the Ozone machine placed in the other room, let us know of the switch and updated our key cards. How nice! The room was clean and barely a hint of cigarette smoke smell. Great customer service and night 1 at Wingate was a success. :) read more
