My family and I ordered $55 worth of food, two chicken sandwiches, 2 Mac n cheese kids meals (that was not actually a meal and did not include sides nor drinks). The sandwiches were sad and the quality was about the standard of McD's. The kids Mac n cheese were basically kraft mac n cheese with chopped up nuggets on top and a very minimal sprinkle of bacon on top. The whole thing was honestly dissatisfying. The part that bothered me the most was that after paying $55 for this, we didn't even get a sauce to dip our fries in, that was an extra cost. And the lemonade in which we paid over $3 for and was advertised as "freshly squeezed" was most certainly not. Over all, I can say we won't come back here for the food.

I start this quest with a strong bias towards Slim Chickens in Broken Arrow. I have tried it several years ago and I was impressed. Proceeding with a redo of the fast-food chicken restaurant outlets. The competitors are as follows: Slim Chickens, Chick-fil A, Waldo's, Zaxby's, Red Light Chicken, Chicken and the Wolf, and Charlies Chicken. Slim Chickens is a strong competitor. It has a big salad. Loaded with chicken, vegies and a bonus of onion rings. They have more varieties of dressing than a pack of Crayola crayons has colors. A five-star Slim's Salad today. This is going to be hard to beat. The chicken is good. Not the best in the industry, but good. Of the franchises, I prefer Raising Cane's chicken. Unfortunately, they are not in the competition, because they do not offer a salad. That's a good thing, sticking to the what they do best. Slim Chickens restaurant in Broken Arrow is clean. The service is outstanding for a fast-food franchise. One of the very best in service. Now there is something else. Nothing to do with the salad. The fried pickles. A heaping basket of greasy, crisp, crunchy, salty, spicey, vinegary, thin sliced pickles, with a perfect fried flour and corn meal coating. Dipping sauce NOT needed! I have never had any this good anywhere, period. Check the pictures and try them the next time you are in the store. Off to another chicken joint I go!

He runs more to the tame side of food, so this was a logical choice for us. TLDR: good food, reasonable prices and really nice people. Got there around 12:45, and were seated immediately. We got menus and ordered drinks and set about making choices. My son went with the chicken and waffles, hashbrowns instead of eggs, since he doesn't eat eggs. I went with my usual diner test, the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, cream gravy and green beans. The inside is clean, neat and cheery. Staff were busy but attentive. Food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Son's chicken and waffles were outstanding, according to him. Chicken not dry and waffles crisp on the outside and tender inside. Not sure what syrup they use, but he commented that it had almost a cinnamon flavor that he loved. The dish comes with a berry compote type dip that was quite good. Hashbrowns were perfect. Crispy on the outside and steamy soft inside. My CFS was one of the better ones I've had. Not the best, but certainly an 8/10 on all points. Plenty thick enough, nearly 1/2" and well breaded. Crust to meat ratio was good too, with only a little pullback on the meat. Brust was flavorful and not at all soggy. Potatoes are scratch made, and the gravy was both flavorful and plentiful. Green beans were slow cooked and once I salted them, they were great. CFS could have been a little more tender, as some parts definitely needed a knife to cut, but overall, a really good effort. It also came with a respectable side salad that I enjoyed a lot. Prices are reasonable, service is great and the atmosphere is typical diner, without being a greasy spoon, not that that's a bad thing at all. My part of the order ran to $18 and change with an iced tea, and for what I got, that's not bad at all.

The hamburgers are outstanding -- juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly how you order them. You can tell they use quality beef, and the toppings are fresh. Also tried the fish. The beer batter is light, crispy, and golden without being greasy. The fish inside is flaky and tender, and the portion size is more than satisfying. Paired with their house tartar sauce and a side of crispy fries, it's comfort food done right. This tavern hits that sweet spot: great food, good prices, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Definitely a place you'll want to come back to again and again.

Having reservations helped, and our table was ready upon arrival. Our server, Rebel, was the standout of the entire experience. She handled our large group single-handedly, keeping orders organized and service on point the whole time. Friendly, engaging, and attentive--she's exactly the kind of person you want taking care of your table. We started with Wings, Mozzarella Sticks, and a Giant Pretzel. The wings looked good but fell short in crispness and flavor. The Pretzel was solid, but the big surprise winner was the Mozzarella Sticks--definitely worth ordering! For my meal, I had the Chicken Club with a side salad. The sandwich was excellent, thanks to the perfectly toasted wheat berry bread that really made it shine. The side salad, however, was a miss. It looked fresh but lacked flavor, and I wish restaurants would serve salads on chilled plates to keep them crisp. Overall, Main Street Tavern is a solid choice for lunch or even after work on the patio. The food has its highs and lows, but with Rebel taking care of you, the experience is well worth it.
