I've only ever had bad experiences with this location. A couple weeks back I went to the store to grab a couple of things for my son's birthday party and to my surprise there was only ONE REGISTER open! The line started to wrap around self check out. Self check out was FULL. And the cashier seemed stressed when I got up there. I saw a bunch of employees at the customer service desk doing absolutely NOTHING! This location is notorious for lazy employees!!! My second experience was a few days ago when I went to self checkout to check out a couple items for dinner. There was only one cashier again! As I was checking out my self checkout machine said the coupon box was full? When I asked for assistance the self checkout employee saw me rolled her eyes and finished her conversation and then walked over to me. Her name was serenity. She had the nastiest attitude ever! After she fixed the machine I said thank you, she looked at me and walked away back to her conversation with the other employee. Management needs to do better!! I'm sick of my local grocery store being so inconvenient. read more

This store has gone so far downhill it's laughable. I used to work here, so I know how things should be done up front. The self-checkout is a joke. They're always a crowd of employees chatting instead of working, bags are thrown everywhere and never refilled, customers have to wait around for help, and I've never seen a manager correct it. Today I went in and watched 2 different people steal items at self check because the red haired girl at self check was too absorbed in her phone to pay attention. Self checkout employees shouldn't be on their phone at all, let alone having it damn near glued to their face. Justin, you need a new front end manager because clearly this one isn't doing her job. Also, it takes almost no effort to empty or refill the cash in self check machines. I used to do it daily, and now there's always only one machine available? The machines are even closer to the cash office than they used to be, there's really no excuse. Fix it. read more

Not good Service, many patrons standing by the lotto stand and nobody came by and that's even when cashiers didn't have guests. They didn't call anyone and were looking at people waiting. Not good as more than a few guests left. Managers weren't around either. Total lack of care here. read more

I've lived in Destrehan for 8 years. I shop at Winn Dixie at least a few times a week. However, I drive all the way to laplace to Matherne's or go to rouses in Metairie to get produce. Winn Dixie in Destrehan has some of the worst produce I've ever had to deal with. 90% of the time the onions are rotting when you get them home. The asparagus is usually wilted and the limes are most often browning, just to name a few. I do want to acknowledge that the store it clean, stocked, and the people are always kind and helpful. Oh and one other thing. The shrimp. The shrimp is all from Ecuador. Not from the Gulf of Mexico. Just ask. You will be shocked. read more

Well, if youlike hanging around in Destrehan to get price gouges, then you will like Winn Dixie. Notice I said price gouges. Some things here have great prices. Some prices are just ridiculous. The store appears to only employ people below 20 yet with IQ's somewhere over 100. It is generally clean, but there are tons of teenager shennanigans. I once interrupted an employee face sucking session when I went to the restroom. They yell across the store, manage to look super bored while their phones are ever present rarely leaving the safety of their owner's hands. I have even been asked to buy alcohol for an employee who was hovering near the Red Box outside. With all the issues with this store, I far prefer it to the big W. Although the lines after work can look like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and patrons are at a fever pitch trying to cut each other off to get the next place in line. If you are lucky you will see a local elected official exclaiming loudly that they are in a hurry an trying to intimidate their way to a better place in line. Just ignore her. Tease the teenagers, they can be funny when properly prodded. I never worry about the freshness of the food and I approve of the quality of the meat. read more

I am giving 5 stars to the bakery department. My son's birthday cake was impressively decorated for a grocery store cake. My family was impressed. It also tasted delicious. There is definitely some talent in that bakery! read more

I don't think I have ever hated anything more in my entire life than their self check out machines. It makes me not want to shop at the store at all. Like I would be willing to drive all the way to Chalmette if I had to, just so I wouldn't have to hear the dang women's voice speaking to me if I put something on the scanner. Don't even get me started on the freakin music it plays when you put your card in !!!!! I was shot awhile back and even that was preferable to using the self check out. CAN SOMEONE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE TURN OFF THE SOUND ON THE MACHINES. Every single person hates it and it makes me want to punch a child. Other than that have a blessed evening read more

After living in the kingdom of Wegmans for many years, it was a shocking experience to move to the Big Easy and find liquor stores masquerading as grocery stores. A specific disappointment was the absence of prepared food choices. Of course, it is not like anyone is going to starve to death because they can't find a restaurant around here. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Subway. A very common experience in the kingdom of Wegmans is eating a quick meal at the grocery store. They were typically equipped with a large selection of hot and cold prepared foods, pizza ovens, sub making services and seating for 50 or more. It would not be unusual to see a half a dozen people behind the counter cranking out subs during lunch. So why were all these people eating lunch at a grocery store? Good fast fresh food made quickly at a great price and a comfortable place to sit. I stumbled into the Destrehan Winn Dixie the other day for a biannual visit and noted the newly (to me) remodeled fruit and produce section. Investigating a little further, lots of attractive displays, hot food bars, well stocked deli counters, rotissaire chickens, no pizza ovens. Everything looked and smelled excellent. The only thing missing was seating. I was pleasantly surprised to see they made subs to order. To elminate any confusion, the only difference between a sub and a poboy is a sub is made on some kind of Italian bread and, of course, a poboy is on French bread. I ordered a ham and turkey on white, cheddar, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and peppers. The store is not presently staffed to make a lot of subs on short order. When I visited, it was around lunch time, there was a couple of folks behind the counter who were available to help customers in addition to other tasks. There definitely wasn't the rhythm that comes from making dozens of sandwiches an hour. The layout wasn't organized to do that even if the people were available. It took a couple of minutes to get the ingredients together and the sandwich assembled and packaged. Turned out to be a great sandwich, tasty fresh italian bread and quality coldcuts. I can't begin to tell you anything about the rest of the store, it seems clean, the shelves are full, the checkouts seemed to be moving. I'll be back for another sub. read more

Was my frozen food item melted and refrozen before it was sold to me again? Will I catch one of the stockers blocking the dairy aisle in an attempt to hide the fact that he's on his phone while on the job again? Will the manager stand in the front of the store with his arms folded, drinking his coffee, refusing to do ANYTHING when all of the cash registers were down in the store? I can not say much about this place besides the fact that they close before 11pm every night. Three days in a row I went 10 minutes before 11 to just grab 1 item. All times closed. Once a young lady even locked the door as I was walking up and yes before 11pm. Employees that care is a great place to start off the hiring process. I think this place lacks in many areas of customer service. No one is ever really happy and smiling. It seems very sad when you see all the employees very nonchalantly doing something other than giving amazing customer service. read more

I love the selection that this location offers. I can find anything I need here. For that, I will continue to shop here. The service is lacking. You'll get the Wal-Mart treatment for sure. There are never enough lanes open, and no sense of urgency. If you like bagging your own groceries, then this is your place. read more
