Rouses is always clean and even in late Aug. it is always cool and comfortable inside. They offer a variety and multiple brand selection of most items. Their strong point is in the number of locally made items and the extensive number of items needed to cook Cajun and well known Louisiana recipes. The only real problem from a shoppers point of view is that this store is chronically short staffed at the checkout isles. I have been shopping at this store for years and it is not uncommon for the checkout isles to be 12 deep or more with most customers with a cart full of items. The problem is there are only 2 or 3 isles open. Most of the time all the customers have no option but stand in line and wait. It is not uncommon to see customers to lay items down and leave. This is a wonderful store but keep in mind it may take longer than you expect to get out of the store! read more

It's always very pleasant to enter this location. It opens up to a beautiful garden area to the right. The horticulturist at this location takes great pride in their work, you can tell from the colorful greeting of seasonal blooms. The detail in all the arrangements seem to be a meticulously beautiful work of art. This section carries the entire store on its back. I have been going to this Rouses store for years. The food has been excellent over the years until recently. I have found the quality of the produce has declined. Produce is now hit and miss. Avocados, berries and other produce may appear good but when you get it home you find it is damaged and or decaying. I wonder who is being hired to put the product on the shelves. I also find the friendliness of the cashiers has declined considerably. In the past year or so there have been more black cashiers hired for some reason or another and the typically friendly Caucasian cashiers that have staffed all of their stores for years has disappeared from this store. These cashiers act as though they don't want to serve you and cut corners in their bagging if they can get away with it. It is a sad situation that needs to be addressed or Rouses will become no different than the Walmart on Manhattan or the one down the street. read more

Had a terrible experience with the management team July 31st between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the location 91 Westbank Expressway Suite 600 Gretna Louisiana 7008​, store manager refuse to accept my complaint then falsify police reports then district manager Chris Campbell tried to cover the incident and not report my complaints then Mr James Newton preceded to tell me that I don't know the policies for the industry I've worked for for the last 7 years as the grocery inventory specialist manager on duty I know de-escalation training I know policies for not leaving this at all pursuing anybody so yes sir Mr James Newton I do know your policies and you did break them your manager broke them Chris Campbell broke them and now my lawyers will decide what's it worth for me to sit in the back of a police car an hour after I've come from therapy for my neck back and shoulders so yes your false police reports that led to my re-injuries are going to play a part in all of this read more

I havent been in a Rouses store that I dont like. The selection and quality of the meats is always awesome. Same with seafoods and semi prepared food like stuffed bellpeppers etc. This being the first Rouses that was built from the ground up, so I entered here thinking this is what "Old Man Rouses" had in mind... the master plan of all stores. I would of thought it would be bigger than it is. Not a problem. Maybe im jaded by all the big box stores? The layout is familiar though and I am greatful for that. The beer section isnt the biggest. The store in Algiers I believe still has the greatest beer section in the city, but this location has a above average selection comepared to the competitors. And for that I am happy. The prices and sales are fantastic. The crew in the parking lot does a bang up job rounding up stray buggies and making sure there is never a shortage. This is also the closest Rouses to my Marrewego home, so I am a big fan :-) read more

This Rouses is pretty close to my house and it's been open for about a year. I have no excuses for being so late to check this it out. I stopped in here because I was looking for a specific beer. While I didn't find the brew that I was on a quest for, they do have a nice selection of craft beer from all over ("all over" being a technical term). I found a yummy IPA from Stone and, pleased with my selection, I decided to browse the rest of the store. Holy moly freshness, Batman! I love the deli section here! There's a lot of hustle and bustle- the bakery has cakes made fresh, the sushi section had a nice line because sushi is made fresh to order (and also comes pre-packaged, if you're in a rush), there is a salad bar full of delicious goodies and a hot bar with tasty treats. I am definitely going to have to stop in here to get some good stuff for lunch. As I mentioned in my review of the Rouses on Belle Chasse Highway, there is a big gourmet cheese case. So in one section you have all of your bakery, salad, sushi and cheese needs met. There is also a nice little section dedicated to fresh flowers, for that special someone (even if that special someone is you). This Rouses is fantastic. The lines move quickly and they have multiple registers open in order to get people in and out quickly. One complaint: the parking lot could be a little easier to navigate, but that's not the end of the world. read more

Great market, fresh fruit always a great selection. Great lunch food, hot and cold bar and friendly staff. The difference between the people that work here compared the to Walmart market a block away is so much different they might as well be from another planet!! Always greet you with a smile, thank you in the lane when you check out. Plus, they have a great wine and beer selection! For a smaller store, the wine the carry is as good as a larger store if not better. During the season , they sell the boiled crawfish by the pound as you come in! Great place great people read more

I'm about to have white girl problems all over this review...bare with me. I anxiously awaited the opening of this very big & new Rouses for months and months. Everyday I would drive by and see it getting closer to opening and I thought how awesome it was going to be to have this huge grocery 3 blocks away. The good: it's big, the salad bar is legit, the soup bar also legit, and they have a sandwich making counter. Upon closer inspection, I was a bit disappointed. If you want to get liquor to make a cocktail, it's all behind the counter. What the heck! Tchoupitoulas Rouses has open aisles of liqueur. Is this a Westbank dig? Also I was looking forward to the wall of oats and grains, just like the one at the Tchoupitoulas location. Where is the grain aisle! To top it all off, the cheese selection is super sub-par compared to...you guessed it, the Tchoupitoulas location! All of these complaints must sound whiney I know. But I don't understand why you would build a grand brand new grocery and not give it all the amenities of the other locations. I'm disappointed Rouses. I want a grain wall damn it. read more

Not going to lower or raise the stars from my last review. What I will do is offer you a small warning. If you buy crawfish here, do NOT buy the last batch of the day. Twice this year, I've done that and both times, the crawfish was under-cooked and lacked spice. When I mentioned it, a girl who worked there warned me, they skimp on the last batch of the day in spice and cooking time. They are just hurrying it out for the rush hour people. To me, that seems dangerous and is unfair to the people standing in line waiting for crawfish. I'd rather stand in line 10 more minutes than get undercooked crawfish, something that can't be healthy. read more

My favorite Rouses on the westbank side. Produce are normally fresh as well as the sea food. The meats are generally fresh, just look for the weekly specials. I tend to avoid the bargain bin meats specials as I never had good results with them. Sea food section always look fresh and the workers are always willing to assist. During lunch, Rouses is a great place to stop by for hot food, just don't get carried away and over stuff the box as things can get pricey. Dining area is nice and they have wifi too. The cashier can be slow and sloppy at times. read more

I've always liked this store. So clean, and everyone is pretty nice. I'd drive out of the way to go here, because the shopping experience is worth it. HOWEVER, I had a bad experience on placing party tray orders for an event. I physically went there myself and placed an order for several party trays for a funeral exactly one week ahead of time. Picking up the day of was a fiasco. They lost my order. I had a friend pick up the order because I was working and wanted the food to be there before the guests arrived. She got to Rouses, and the staff knew they lost my order, and only gave her the sandwich tray. They didn't even bother to ask me if there was anything else I ordered. So my friend left Rouses and delivered the food to the funeral home., I called her to make sure everything was okay, but when I spoke to her, I realized that all they gave her was that one tray, when I ordered much more. SHE HAD TO GO BACK TO ROUSES, WAIT FOR MORE FOOD, and then go BACK to the funeral home to deliver the food. Even though this was quite frustrating, to go in circles, I'm still giving a 4-star review for the manager alone, who helped rectify the situation. I was very frustrated, of course, because the food for the guests was late by over an hour, but the manager tried his best to correct the situation. If it was just a party, I wouldn't be so upset. The event was a very important to me, and the food that night was part of my contribution. Lesson learned. Call several hours ahead on the day of pick up and make sure everything is going to be on time!!!!! Also, make a copy of your order or take a picture of it on your phone or something!!! Remember, mishaps will always happen in life, but it all comes down to customer service! If anything, this has made me a more loyal customer to Rouses! I had a huge problem with the manager here about 2 years ago and vowed to never return. The store has not fully redeemed itself in my eyes because the customer service from the manager was deplorable - especially a manager!!! However, today I was in a pinch and had to run in here for a few things. Since I believe in commending good service, I must say that the girl who checked me out was incredibly thoughtful, kind, attentive and efficient. I think her name was Kayti. She asked me how I like certain items bagged. She let me know where the eggs and bread were so they wouldn't get smashed. She asked if I wanted my canned sodas in a bag. She did all of this and had me out the door in no time. Lastly, I should mention that I used the restroom while at the store and it was clean and stocked. This is very important. I bought 20 lbs of boiled crawfish on April 1, 2017. I am 61 and have been eating crawfish my entire life. These were the DIRTIEST I have ever come across. Rouses, YOU NEED TO WASH your crawfish before boiling. They are mud bugs from the swampy waters of Louisiana. I have eaten your crawfish before and they were good. Guess this was some kind of April Fools joke on your customers. It was NOT funny. read more

Love this Rouses! The store is always immaculately clean (which is a huge plus for me), and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The prices can be a bit high sometimes, so I don't go there for my 'big' grocery trips, but I do stop in a few times a week for things I run out of or forget. Additionally, the hot bar, salad bar, and ready made meals are a go to for a quick but tasty lunch. One thing that stands out is if the store doesn't have something, they can order it and call you when it's in. One of the employees in the frozen foods section named Alton was extremely helpful in getting a hard to find item ordered for me and personally called me when it was in. I gave it three stars because normally I really like their produce, tonight i go shopping and the deli is closed several hrs before the store closes and as I'm standing there several employees walk by without even acknowledging me. I finally have to ask someone if they are open. Horrible customer service if you ask me. Then all their lettuce is disgusting! Why would you even still have that on the shelf! read more

I came here with my mom to pick up some Louisiana food supplies. Rouse's is one of my favorite things about Louisiana that I miss since moving to North Carolina, but this store has some very impersonal employees. No one was helping anyone and our cashier, Earlina, or something should not be dealing with customers. She never said hello, thank you, come again or anything except to complain because I put the 24 packs of cola on the conveyor. Maybe if she was paying attention to anything, she'd have caught on to what I was doing. In general, this location needs some smiling lessons all around. This is still the south. I love how big this store is and how they have almost everything. They have a very nice alcohol section. The prices aren't that bad either. Only real big issue, Don't get there crawfish! It has no flavor it's dull. I got 15 lbs and when i got to the register they only gave me 9 lbs. Then i had to get back in line and wait again for a new batch. But then when my mother went there later on in the same day, she ordered 9 lbs of crawfish. When it was rang up at the register it came out to 5 lbs. So she had to get back in line to get the rest of the crawfish. We're going back to the other Rouses on Bellchase Hwy. read more

Love the store, even with the tiny aisles, selection is nice, and it's nice to finally have a clean grocery store on the West Bank. Now the down side. Some prices are outrageous, and they have unbelievably inexperienced check out workers. I checked out yesterday and had to tell the kid on multiple occasions that he had rang up many items twice. Even tried to weigh my apples and pears together which produced an astronomical price. If I would not have paid attention, I would've been taken for more than $40. It also took him a half an hour to check me out with all of these mistakes which was a nightmare. I've ordered finger sandwiches from the store before and they completely lost my order. Rouses, I expected better from your big brand-new store and you desperately need improvement or I'm going back to horrors, Walmart. read more

We live only a few blocks from this store so it's our go-to place for groceries. We shopped at Casey Jones at the same location for 30 some years and have become loyal customers at the "new" Rouses since it opened. I had an issue with the selection of Grits when all that were on the shelf were instant or quick grits, something I might expect from stores up north but not here in Louisiana but I made a suggestion and that was quickly changed: old fashioned 20 minute grits soon appeared back on the shelf, although on the bottom shelf. Seems to me that the store would carry a larger selection of sugar free or no sugar added items, specifically ice-cream. I know that Blue Bell, Edys and Breyers all make no sugar added flavors but the only brand I see recently is Rebel and that is quite expensive. I've approached staff to make suggestions to management about this but so far nothing has changed. A lot of Gretna residents are retired and have sugar issues so I'm hoping to see a larger selection soon. read more
