My boyfriend (35) showed his valid ID, but the cashier demanded mine (34) too even though I wasn't buying. When I didn't have it, they refused the sale. The problem is not the policy, the problem is that from the beginning the manage Jose seemed to have a problem, When my boyfriend approached him at the cash register he was giving him an attitude and seemed like he did not want to help. He then pointed at another lady to come and help us without even saying anything and walking away. What makes it even worse is that a couple with two small children bought a FULL cart of alcohol (in the photos) without being asked for IDs for everyone in their group. So clearly, the policy was not applied equally -- it was applied selectively, and it felt discriminatory. When I asked for the manager, which turned out to be Jose, He was smirking the entire time and made an unnecessary and inappropriate comment saying that while he "wasn't making assumptions," it was "clear that those are those peoples kids and that I wasn't my boyfriend's daughter." That comment was offensive and unprofessional. Their posted rule (photo included) says anyone who looks under 30 may be asked for ID. We are both well over that age and he obviously could tell we are the similar in age with his assumption. This situation had nothing to do with policy and everything to do with poor treatment and bias.

Checkers has been upping their game lately!…read more Over the past year or so they have really started catering to the Spirit World! And by that, I mean high-proof hooch. They opened up the back area and created a scotch and bourbon section! All the goodies are in one area. And their prices are competitive with just about any other store around. They get some store picks in too, so it's good to stop in frequently and see what they have at the moment. They continue to have beer and wine and all the rest too. Shelves are full of kinds of interesting bottles to pick up. The staff is friendly and helpful. That part seems to have been tightened up too. Which is much appreciated. They are back to in-store tastings too. So make sure you get on the list to know when they are coming up. Checkers has been around for quite a while now. And they are getting better and better!

He presented me with a couple of really nice options, including Lost Lore Tequila, their own single barrel of Arette Tequila, and El Bandido Blanco. He offered me samples of each, and to my surprise, El Bandido ended up being my favorite. It also happened to be on sale. Unfortunately for me, I had left my wallet at home, so I had to come back later. Even when I returned, the other associates were incredibly helpful and polite. To me, this is the perfect neighborhood liquor store: friendly, local, and absolutely stunning inside. Their wine section is outstanding and looks amazing. In my opinion, it has to be one of the best wine sections I've seen in a while. As far as the tequila selection goes, I was very impressed. They carry all the typical brands you'd expect to see, but they also have some great options for anyone hunting for quality tequila, including Tequila Ocho, G4, Arette, Siete Leguas, Lost Lore, El Tesoro, and so much more. We were so excited to make this our new go-to liquor store and support a local business rather than make a run to our usual visit at Total Wine. The man who was running the store seemed to have an opinion on each of the items we selected even though we didn't ask for it. We understand when a sales person is trying to be helpful but he was everything but helpful and his comments were not appreciated. My mother in law asked him what's a good tequila and he responded "does it really matter?". I was super under impressed by the service. In addition, he watched our every move like a hawk, which I completely understand since I'm sure there is a lot of theft in Liquor stores but this makes customers feel highly uncomfortable and is blatantly obvious. We purchased a few large bottles of Belgium beer and other items since we were already there. To our dismay ALL items were expired and we realized this when we got home. My husband did notice one of the beers we selected was expired while we were checking out and told the gentlemen we no longer wanted it (but it never occurred to us to check ALL out our selection). The store associate was passive aggressive and went on to tell us it was "still good"!!!! There was no apology rendered at all. I will never step foot in this establishment and will warn others about it which is why I was compelled to write this review. Unless you are interested in buying expired alcohol, I would not recommend this place. It's a shame because I really wanted to like it.
