The salon is easy to find, tucked into a corner plaza with plenty of parking and wheelchair accessibility. We had a 5:30 PM appointment, and I was a little worried we might have to wait since there were about seven walk-ins ahead of us. But Winnie confirmed our spot right away and sent us to a stylist at the end station. While we waited, I watched Winnie cut a gentleman's hair--clean, precise, and quick--which impressed me so much that I signed my son up for a cut on the spot and canceled his other appointment. Both kids left with fresh, perfectly done cuts. The stylists here are efficient, they listen, and they work fast without sacrificing quality. You can tell the place is popular--lots of women were getting their hair done too. It's rare to find a salon with these prices and this level of service these days. We brought my son in for a haircut on an early Sunday morning and all I have to say is the two women who were working were absolutely amazing towards my 3 year old. My son has sensory issues and does not like the sound of clippers and he starts to act out screaming crying and flapping is arms, for a mom it's extremely stressful but our hairdresser made us feel safe and welcomed I. It's worth the long wait, that she had to come early the next morning to make sure I get my hair done. I came out loving my hair.

DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR COLORED OR CUT HERE!!! i asked for a retouch for my silver/light grey peekaboo highlights (which was previously done at a different salon and turned out amazing) and i came out with a mess of light blue, orange, and blonde hair. i'm not sure how they messed up so badly that they couldn't even get an even color. they didn't even bleach all the way to my roots which caused it to be a combination of black and orangish brown at my scalp. i asked for layers and they just made my dyed and undyed hair two different lengths!!! i felt like crying because i told winnie to keep my hair length if possible but she literally cut off THREE INCHES. there was no effort put into my haircut at all. this was also the first salon i've ever been to in my entire life where they didn't even style my hair before i left. winnie only blow dried my hair for a bit so i left the salon with half damp hair. read more

I've been coming here for many years and I've never left disappointed. From when I was a kid to now as a grown adult. There's really not too much to analyze as far as haircuts go since I'm simple guy and usually come here for a clean cut or a high fade and a spiky top. But I should note that despite updated CDC guidelines recently, it is still required to keep your mask on in here, whether you've been vaccinated or not. Additionally, there are no walk-ins at the present time as far as I know so make sure you call in ahead of time to book an appointment. Even if there were walk-ins, you'll probably want to call in ahead of time anyway. Before the pandemic, this place used to be extremely busy especially on weekends. It's just good practice. And finally, this place is no longer cash only like it used to be years ago but be aware that if you use a credit or debit card, there will be a $1 sub charge. There's a sign inside that will say this as well. So keep that in mind if you plan to come in without cash. Literally the worst haircut I ever had in my adult life, just in time for the new year (2023). Like why in the hell would I choose to have my hair this short. Lady told me "number 5 at the top" thought she was talking about the picture that are NUMBERED not the freakin CLIP SIZE because she didn't make it clear that she was talking about the clip size before just shaving all my hair off. Winnie has way too many customers who needs hair cuts. She'll just let you sit there for hours under the dryer & it seems she rather cut more hair than to finish me up so i can leave. Partner doesn't even want to finish drying my hair. One minute does nothing to my wet soaking hair. I ask her to completely finish drying my hair before she move on to a haircut. Seemed agitated. Hair was dry but seemed coarse even after a hot oil treatment. Winnie ask if i need some oil. I replied yes & she told me to put it on myself... WTF? Both of my daughters got their haircuts this morning and I'm pleased. The lady cutting their hair was easy going, kind and communicative in terms of what she saw with the hairline and where and what she could do based on what she saw. I have been coming to Winnie's for years, and I must say that she and her team are really great. It's always a pleasant time when getting my haircut there. Oh yeah, their haircuts are nice too. But then again, I'm pretty easy to please with a number 5 on top faded to a two on the sides. After years of going to fancy upscale salons, I got tired of paying 180.-200. ( not including the tip yet even!) thinking hair is getting ridiculously expensive! One salon even had hand and shoulder massages and my daughter says it is free! I told her that is not free, especially with the prices you pay! I finally found a place that has no frills, but gives me exactly the cut I want without gouging me! I get a long layered cut on long hair, so no matter where I go or whatever cut I go for, it ends up the same anyway! She listened to what I wanted, adjusted anything I wanted and it came out great! I booked an appointment for my son and showed up 15 minutes before scheduled appointment. They told me that I would have to wait an hour. After I informed them that I have an appointment they spoke to each other in Vietnamese saying he needs to wait and it doesn't matter if he has an appointment or not. Our regular hair stylist was out of town, so I took my son to Winnie's on July 26th around 9:25am. First thing that I noticed was that there was a lot of people waiting inside. Not surprised. It was the Friday before the first day of school for Brentwood and Oakley students. My son sign in. I noticed that despite the large number of people waiting for their hair to be done, my son was the only person who "signed in" on that day so far. I thought to myself, "no big deal as long as my son gets his turn after the person who came in before him." We went outside to wait at first, because there weren't anymore seats to sit in. Later when two seats became available, we sat and waited inside the establishment. While waiting I began to look around (from my seat) the business as well as people watch the two employees that were there and the clientele. During my observation I noticed a few of things about this establishment... -They don't use their "sign in" sheet. They were calling customers up randomly. As nice as it would have been to get my son's haircut over with, I didn't feel that it was okay for him to go before the other customers who were there before we were, so we did the right thing; we let the stylist know who was before us. -They're seem to be a cash ONLY establishment. Although they have signs randomly near the cash register stating something like "credit card machine is currently not working. We apologize for any inconvenience," and "an additional $1 fee will be automatically added to credit card transactions." Not exact word for word, but the meanings are the same. I noticed more than one customer needing to leave after their haircut to get cash to pay. Good thing they're honest folks. -Regulars feel VERY comfortable here. :) While waiting, I witnessed a woman come in, greeted the stylists, and then sat down with the rest of us to wait for her turn. After a few minutes, she got up and went to an actual empty styling station, sat down, opened her purse to get something out, and totally made herself at home. :) -More like Chinatown than Beverly Hills. If you're expecting a spotless floor, hip dressed employees who will offer you a drink while you wait for your turn, and be very chatty with you while they cut/style your hair, then go someplace else. These stylists are dressed nicely and will get the job done as long as customers are good communicators of what he or she want done. If you speak Cantonese, you're in...it's a plus to converse with them on a friendlier, more casual level. They work hard to get customers in and out of the styling chairs, so I didn't see them sweep up after EVERY person, but they did work quickly and precisely. The bottom line is that my son got the haircut that he wanted, so I'm happy. That's why they're getting three stars. Will we return for services in the future? Who knows....maybe, maybe not, but at least I'll know what to expect. :) read more

Hair cut is good especially for Asian hair. Price is reasonable. The only negative is I made an appointment 10:45 but somebody walked-in before then and we were both waiting. They still took the girl that didn't have the appt. So I waited an hour until another hairdresser became available. Why make an appointment if they still accept walk-ins between appointments.
