I am shocked at the recent reviews. I have seen how they treated myself and other customers for years and they are always nice, pleasant and accommodating. The price is still very reasonable and my clothes look amazing. They have recently had staff changes to help serve their customers better. They recognized some issues and actively fixed them. This makes for smart business owners. And they always have dogs treats when my dogs accompany me. read more

Went in to have my winter coat dry cleaned and a small (1/4"x1/4") L shaped rip repaired. The staff were very friendly. However, when I picked up the coat I found that 1) the coat was not completely cleaned and 2) the repair looked like it had been done by a drunk person. The small tears are now replaced by a wad of stitching the size of a quarter and I'm not sure it can be fixed. I'll have to take it somewhere else and see. Long story short: I would not recommend this place as a cleaner and DEFINITELY not as place for repairs or alterations. read more

Dropped off shirts for laundry, heavy starch and folded/boxed for a trip. Went to pick up shirts and they had been dry cleaned. I asked for them to re-do the shirts as I wanted them starched. Picked up the next day on hangers. They still can't get it right. There are other options in the neighborhood. I won't be back. read more

3 stars is about right. I had been coming to this cleaners for 10 years. Quality hasn't been the same since it was sold. Cleaning times are much, much longer than was provided by the previous owners. Clothes sometimes weren't cleaned properly. It's very hit and miss. The weekday and weekend hours became a little challenging. Most cleaners I know open at 7AM. No plant on premises so depends on when the clothes run happens. There's a cleaners on Clark and Wilson that's waaaaaay better. Switched my business and couldn't be happier. read more

This place smells like cigarettes, they staff is rude and unhelpful and they do not do any of their alterations in house so it is hard to get a feel for whether or not a competent sewist is actually working on your clothes. Since it was sold a few years ago, I've seen service and the quality of their care go down significantly. Once upon a time, I moved to the other side of Andersonville where I was really far away from my regular dry cleaner at the time. Luck and location lead me to Winona. The owners are friendly, genuine people. After I became a customer, I learned that they're friends of a friend. Small world. The prices are fair and competitive. I've even used their alteration services a few times and while it's not cheap, it's quality work. I've had hems put in a few pairs of pants at other places, and after a few months of wear and washings, the stitching came out. Not so here. I'm fairly confident that if it did happen, the Winona folks would do their best to correct the problem. Bonus points for offering a reusable dry cleaning bag! It is safe to say that most people pick their dry cleaners for many reasons. The quality of their craft, prices they charge, customer service they provide or miracles they perform. My lazy ass picked the most obvious, the proximity to my home which is a minute walk from my door. I don't even know if I'd use a dry cleaner if it wasn't for the fact I can see this place from my home! I just happened to be lucky that Winona Cleaners is reasonably priced for what I find to be very good quality work. I'm also lucky that I do like the people working there and never had any issues that tested that relationship. Do not bring your dry cleaning here unless you take pictures and inventory of all of your clothing. I recently brought 10pieces to be cleaned and fixed. I picked up my clothing only to have the woman working there unable to locate my order. I had to go behind the counter with her to find it. I brought it home only to find someone else's dress in my order! my $400 Tory birch dress was missing and the zipper of my pants not fixed. I am sure the reason why my dress was missing was because one of the workers wore it somewhere. I called to tell them about this and they found my dress thank god. I feel bad for the woman who doesn't know her dress was missing I am sure they are not going to tell her. They refunded me $20 for fixing the zipper. Not great customer service and they clearly don't care about keeping there customers. Try the new washio app. They pick up your clothing from home and drop off for much cheaper then bringing your clothing here. Go down the street to a place less disorganized. read more

Love Winona Cleaners! They recently introduced a reusable dry cleaning bag system where you use the bag to collect your articles of clothing for drop-off... when you leave your clothes they take the bag as well, clean it, and use it to cover your laundry - eliminating the use of the plastic sleeves. They've removed red wine stains from my white cotton shirt = MIRACLE WORKERS!!! (yeah, THAT was a drunk night!) They cleaned the drapes that my cat peed on. I had to send one panel back for a second round, but they re-cleaned it for free. It's still a tad bit musty but so much better than before. The owner couldn't have been nicer about it. I've used their tailoring services as well. Skilled work, maybe a tad bit pricey, but for me, worth it. Oh, and bring your wire hangers back to them... they'll recycle 'em. :-) read more

Spring cleaning! Always clean your house before leaving on a trip. Your future self will thank you for the relief of returning to a tidy blank slate. In the same vein, it is important to launder your winter coats and blankets before stuffing them in the back of your closet. Winter's return is disappointing enough without having to deal with musty fabric. Before packing away my duvet for the season, I entrusted Winona Cleaners with its laundering. My dog had caused a small tear - which turned out to require an easy $4 repair. Another dog peed on it. Then, while the duvet sat in a door-side pile, waiting to be restored, a third dog came in from a muddy, torrential walk in the rain, and assertively rolled his dripping body all over the unsuspecting comforter cover. (In case my landlord reads yelp, I still only own one dog, please don't charge me.) It sounds like I live like an animal. And my battered duvet told the story of a household much more slovenly than mine is, in reality. But there was zero judgment from the man on Winona who collected up my wintry mix of items and ensured me it would be "no problem" whatsoever to return them each to their original pristine condition. I just picked up my things and they are perfectly fresh and soft. They will now retire out of sight for an inverse-hibernation in their sterile plastic cocoons. read more

I love the staff at Winona Cleaners! I've had alterations and cleaning done here. Alterations: jeans. Cleaning: sweaters, dresses, suits, jackets, comforters. If they would clean my pets, I'd bring them here too. ;) I appreciate their eco-friendly option. For a few dollars, you can buy a reusable garment bag, and save $0.10 each time you use it. DO NOT GO HERE!! I dropped off a few things to be cleaned and altered. I prepaid. When I picked them up the first thing they brought me was a ruined vintage Versace tie. The tie had specific dry clean instructions on it and they obviously didn't read them. I was offered NO compensation and had to ASK for my $3 back that I had prepaid for it to be cleaned. She actually told me to take the tie back!!!?? It's a 20 year old silk Versace tie. It can't be returned. I will never use them again. Which is sad as I live and work nearby. read more

I'd like to give 5 stars, but haven't actually had anything cleaned here...only alterations. I took a pair of jeans in to get hemmed. I wanted the original hem; but the gentleman who helped suggested that they'd look better with a non-original hem because the original hem was a bit frayed. I was worried that they'd look bad without the original hem, but he reassured me that they'd look great. They looked fantastic. They also asked if I had washed and dried the jeans already so they could compensate for that if needed. I didn't know the appropriate length to have the jeans hemmed. They knew all the right questions to ask to get the right length. In addition to doing all this very, very well...they did it within one day for no extra cost. I will always go here for my alterations from this point on. Maybe I'll even take my dry cleaning here next time and will then be able to update this from a 4 to 5 star rating. read more

I've never used them for dry cleaning services only tailoring. They messed up an original hem twice and then after calling them on it, instead of correcting the problem, they merely cut and hemmed the pants. Which is exactly what I asked them NOT to do. I would give them 4 stars for their dry cleaning, and 2 stars for alterations/sewing, so an average of 3 stars it is. I've had pretty crappy experience with their alterations/sewing. The last thing I brought in was a bag that needed a new zipper. They said it would be ready in five days, which seemed like a long time, but whatever. I was clear that I really needed it done then since I was leaving on vacation. They called at 3pm the day it was due to be done and said it wouldn't be done until the next day. No apology, and the woman on the phone was pretty rude. A week later when I finally got the bag the seamstress had put an up-charge on the zipper replacement from the quoted price of $10 (already high) to $25. Thnkfully the nice guy who is always there when I drop off/pick up things took off the up-charge and appologized for the severe lateness of the bag. My dry cleaning is nearly always done on time and fine - with a few minor inconveniences such as them having to press/lint roll my suit jackets when I come to get them because they aren't QUITE done yet (even though the jackets were due a day or two before). Not great on timing, but the guy who is always there (son-in-law of the owner, I think?) is super nice, their prices (for non-sewing/alterations) are great, and they are convenient to my house, so I still go back. read more

How could I do this to you after you: Provided me with excellent service Always remembered my name/number when walking in the door Accepted my credit card without fail Replaced two pockets in my favorite coat so well you can't even tell Knocked the price down when I brought in several curtains for cleaning Engaged in chit chat and always told me to have a nice day, evening, weekend Offered me a free lint brush when I my total seemed high (you should have seen what I was charged at the other place with no brush offered) I promise to bring my clothes in this weekend. I've taken my dry cleaning here for two years just because it was around the corner from my home. Generally, Winona Cleaners did an OK job on my husband and my clothes, but the services here is inconsistent. Sometimes our shirts are not pressed nicely or I'll find wrinkles here and there. What really set me off is that I brought several of my husband's expensive designer cardigans here and one of them came back with small holes that look like burned holes (probably due to chemicals) in certain areas of the front side of the cardigan. My husband took the damaged cardigan in to complain to Winona Cleaners, and they denied any responsibility for the damaged cardigan. Instead they accused him of having moths that caused the holes. If that is so, why don't the other cardigans or any of our other clothes have holes? Since they were rude and unreasonable, we are taking our dry cleaning elsewhere, even if we need to walk a few more blocks further from our home. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Let me start by saying I have used this place in the past and was content with the service I received, but how my friend was treated is NOT acceptable! I had suggested Winona cleaners for a simple dress alteration for my bridesmaid's dress as she was traveling from another state and thought it would be easier to get the simple alteration done in Chicago and then pick it up before the wedding. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When she went to pick up the dress the arm holes were so small it was nearly impossible for her to put her arms through it!! When she asked the man who was there for it to be quickly fixed (ended up being the owner), he told her it could not be fixed because his wife who completes the alterations was not there (even though it was Saturday!). She stated she needed the alterations and he said the earliest he could complete it would be Monday (day after the wedding). She explained that that was unacceptable and she wanted her money back because she will have to try to find someplace else to get the work done in a very short amount of time. He refused to provide any compensation! They began to argue as she believed she was due compensation fully or in part, or try to complete the small alteration that was necessary and the owner would not alter his decision!! He then threatened to call the cops on my friend as she would not leave because she did not believe he was treating her with good, or proper, customer service! I arrived at the business right at this point where he slammed a $10 bill on the counter and informed us that my friend was affecting his business and she needed to leave immediately! I should mention here that the alteration cost was $46, and we still had to find a place that would be able to do the alterations so her arm could fit in the arm holes, in the same day, and pay for that cost! We found a place down the street, where the lady was so sweet and understanding and she could not believe that someone would think the dress was acceptable as is! She was able to work with our timeline to have the dress ready the same day and only charged us $20! Again, she was super super sweet and understanding! I will never give Winona Cleaners any more of my business and I suggest you my follow my lead unless you want to be treated horribly and be threatened by the owner!! When my sister went back to the owner with the receipt from the other cleaners she was able to get another $10 from him to cover the cost of the additional alterations, but unfortunately that was it, and with an attitude I should add. I don't like to write negative reviews but i have to vent. I took a nice blouse and dressier shorts to get dry cleaned. I have taken items here before because its convenient and I never had a problem. I picked up my blouse and shorts and when I got home I noticed the blouse still had the stains on it that I pointed out when I dropped it off. I figured maybe it was my loss and the shirt wasn't able to be cleaned, but upon further inspection I realized my shorts were still wrinkled and dirty too! I took the items back and the girl agreed to redo them. When I picked them up the shirt has no more spots on it and my shorts did a complete 180 as well. Pretty sure they NEVER EVEN CLEANED the items the first time! Um, isn't that the whole reason you are in business Winona cleaners? To clean the clothes? Since my blouse had to be redone I had to switch up outfits for the party i was going to. I went to put on another blouse that I had dry cleaned here last fall that was still in the plastic wrap. Couldn't wear it because it wasn't cleaned properly either. It still had a stain smack dab in the middle of the blouse. Very frustrating, especially because I can't afford to keep having these items redone. read more

There is a reason many of the most recent reviews are all 1 star. Do not go here. I was a return customer over the last few years living in the neighborhood. Always bringing a dozen garments and always paying my bill. I stopped going in July 2015 because it was the 3rd time they lost my garments but what just happened in the store today was truly despicable. The first time it was a shirt they sent to be "reprocessed," but didn't come back for several weeks. The second item was my girlfriend's winter coat with detachable hood and fur. They lost the fur entirely after another "reprocessing." And when they said it came in, I went to go get it, but then when I got there, not only did the person working have no idea what I was talking about (they called me!), but she brought me a pile of several different incorrect furs. A clear sign that this was a bad pattern. Finally, in June/July of 2015 I brought in a number of garments including a sweater I wanted cleaned for a trip I was taking a few days later. Well, once again they needed to "reprocess" an item (the sweater) and said they'd tell me when it came in. Well, they NEVER called me, so I assumed they lost ANOTHER garment and stopped coming in for service. Flash forward to last week (January 2016, 6 months later) when I get a call out of the blue saying they had my sweater. I expressed that I thought they lost it because they hadn't called me. The man on the phone (the owner, I believe) got defensive saying that it's "been hanging on the rack the whole time" and "they don't lose garments." When I asked why I hadn't been notified sooner that it was ready, he had no answer. So I went in today to go pick it up. Again, I expressed to the owner man that I thought they lost it and wondered why they didn't call me sooner like they said they would 6 months ago. The man again became defensive. He brought up my bill and I was surprised it was so high, forgetting that they deferred payment for the whole order until I picked up every item (good in theory, but of course I'd forget if it was 6 months later!). When I tried to pay with a card because I didn't have enough cash, he refused my payment. HE ACCUSED ME OF FILING A CHARGEBACK AND TOOK BACK MY SWEATER, HOLDING IT HOSTAGE UNTIL I CAME BACK WITH CASH, SAYING "THE CIRCLE OF TRUST WAS BROKEN." I was shocked and asked how he could refuse my payment when I was trying hard to pay and leave the situation. He told me that he's been "harmed by chargebacks in the past" on similar occurrences. SO THERE IS A PATTERN OF HIM "REPROCESSING" GARMENTS, AND CUSTOMERS THINKING THEY ARE LOST WHEN HE DOESN'T NOTIFY THEM, THEN HIM REFUSING TO TAKE ANY BLAME AND OFFERING HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Yes, seriously. He didn't trust me? And he refused to take any blame? I've never filed a chargeback in my life! Furious, I said "goddammit," headed to the door to go get cash at the bank like he asked me to, and that's when he shouted in my face that I was "trespassing" and to "not return without police." My girlfriend, who had been quiet the entire time, had cash and paid for the bill so we could be done with it all. He escorted her to the door and gave her change only after we had both exited the shop. He refused to let her keep a receipt, though. The whole ordeal was unbelievable. This place is the worst. Yes, that's right - zero stars....Well, I tried to put zero stars, but the system required me to rate the business. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS. Enough of us have had horrible experiences, that you should truly trust us. The first time I went there, I was told the fee would be one amount - as was printed on the charge slip. When I returned, the fee had increased by $2. When I complained and stated my case, the employee claimed she could not charge me less and that if I wanted to take my clothing - which I needed for that night - I would have to pay the increased amount. Yet, I returned. I needed a new seamstress and a friend recommended them. Although they were over-priced ($40 for 3 pair of pants, one lined), I was willing to pay for good service since it can be so difficult to find; I'm 5' tall and have dealt with the problem forever. However, after trying on my hemmed pants, I found one pair that was an inch longer than we had measured. Since I had explained that I wanted them shorter in order to wear them with various shoes, I specifically remember the length we had discussed, which was also easy to tell given the style of shoe. In fact, the length to which they had been hemmed was even long for the shoes, nevermind my request for them to be shorter. However, when I tried them to show how long they were, the owner literally hiked them up, far above my waist line, giving me a major wedgie, claiming that if that was where they had fit when I originally brought them in, they would be perfect - therefore, he had not done anything wrong, the pants were perfect and if I wanted to have them fixed I could pay an additional $13. The owner would not let me say anything and cut me off every time I tried to state my case. Honestly, the discussion escalated and there was swearing involved. But, I have never received such poor customer service, been so mistreated and infuriated. I left shaking. (The second pair of pants was uneven, but he would not even discuss them.) read more

When I picked up my order, the clothing was not pressed and one garment that went in as a dress garment, was now only suitable for 'weekend wear' Alex said ' no problem', we'll redo the pressing and pay for the ruined garment. When I returned with my receipt I was told it was told it was not their fault. I'm not sure how the responsibility for ruining my clothes became mine. Do not patronize this business. She's a winning combination of rude, overpriced, slow, and very unknowledgeable. A pant hem will run you $15-20 which is ridiculous considering the 4 day turnaround. I don't understand why Full Kit recommends for anything but a waste of time and money. I've had her do hems for me before and two of them weren't straight. Find somewhere else to go. read more

This is my go-to place for dry cleaning in Andersonville. Partly, because it's across the street from my building. Partly, because the hours are really great. Open during the week from 7-7, Saturday they close at 5 and Sunday's they're closed. I feel like most dry cleaners close at 5 or 6 and it's always a rush to get to them before they close.The last part is because the owner is great, always super friendly and efficient. The WORST Dry Cleaners I have ever been to! They lost 2 items of mine and didn't offer any reimbursement for them and stated it wasn't their responsibility. On top of that I had a dress I bought from the local store next door that was expensive and when I took it to their cleaners to be dry cleaned they ruined the buttons and closure on the dress and refused to admit or pay for the repairs. Oh where to start. First they replaced a zipper on a hoodie, charging me $26, $1 per inch. Then i get a faulty zipper. I took it back to them, owner said he would have taylor redo the zipper, I go pick it up and its the same zipper that the tailor attempted to but failed to repair. So finally after complaining repeatedly and getting no where. I went and paid $15 to another cleaner to get the job done right. On numerous occasions they have starched my collars and then used a press that is too hot, if any of you are familiar with this, it makes the collar very shiny and splotchy. I took in six ties to them, 4 of which had to go back to be re-cleaned in order to get out dry cleaning solution marks from the items not being properly rinsed. Then they were pressed (again on a press that was too hot, creating a shimmer on the fabric). They have unnecessarily messed up my clothes too many times. They make mistakes that can easily be avoided and are just careless. I strongly recommend using a different company. read more

Reasonable rates for shirts and slacks- and they did a bang-up job tailoring a pair of slacks, too! My orders are always ready on time and they know how to starch shirts well.
