So frustrated by Forrest Cleaners (Lincoln and Leland). I really tried to stick with them and explain how I like to have - a crease in my trousers. Not the flat style of 1940s Style Jodhpurs that are easier to press. Three times I had to take things back to get it done right. Their only response - well that's how some people like them. No effort to make notes or to create a better customer experience so that when I get ready to leave for a meeting, I can just get dressed and not feel like I am looking like Mussolini about to review the troops. I really like to support small family operations but these folks are just doing what works for them and not really interested in building customer relationships or loyalty. 2 stars based on tailoring (or lack thereof), not cleaning service. I haven't tried that. I can't figure out why yelpers and Time Out magazine recommend this place. Maybe because I live outside the neighborhood I got crappy service? I am not pleased with them at all. This is what happened: I had some designer jeans I wanted hemmed, and before anyone makes any comment about losing weight so the jeans are shorter, designer jeans come pretty much in one length. Inseam is not proportional to waist size. Normally inseam length is 34", no matter what your waist size. So I wanted my over-priced jeans to be hemmed nicely. I scour the internet for a good jeans tailor. Put my faith in the Time Out article, travel streets afar to get to Forest Cleaners (maybe 5 stops on brown line or $13 cab ride). All for my jeans, yes. I go in and ask for original hem. The lady asks "why?" explaining normally original hem has something special about it, and finds some jeans around the shop with a weathered kinda hem, sorta what you are trying to avoid by getting them hemmed in the first place. I explain I am trying to preserve the original look of the jeans, and what's it to her, anyway, she gets more money. She smiled and agreed. She offered to have my jeans ready in 1 week (Monday). I said, "what about a week and a day, I'll come by here next Tuesday". She agreed. I travel the streets afar again and get there at about 11am. The jeans have not been touched. She says its because I came "so early". A week and a day??? If you are too busy to do my jeans, ma'am, please say so before you keep them for a week. She offered to have them done in an hour. I don't want some rushed job. Even though that's probably what happens anyway, at least let me believe you gave my jeans the OCD treatment. Bottom line is, they don't seem very interested in hemming jeans. That's fine, just thought I should get the word out there before anyone else wastes their time. I think they get plenty of business from the clothing store next door anyway. Maybe their cleaning services are fine but tailoring...don't go. read more

After 2 years of having some pant hems ruined, and some not-so-great dry cleaning, I'm so happy to say I've found my neighborhood dry cleaner and couldn't be happier! The ladies here are always very friendly. Also, the turnaround for dry cleaning is usually 2-3 days although if you specify you need it sooner, they will definitely accommodate you. The hours are pretty convenient, 7AM - 7PM, so I like that I am able to either drop my stuff off before OR after work. Also, it's right off of the el on Lincoln Ave., so it's on my way to/from work anyway. Awesome. For dry cleaning, I would recommend you pointing out all of the stains to them so they can mark them with tape to ensure they catch them all. Every stain I have ever marked & pointed out to them has been cleaned; the one time I rushed I didn't do it, they left one small stain but not a big deal. I know better now. I have not yet taken anything to them for alterations; will re-review if/when this happens. read more

Employees--nice. Location--convenient. Prices--ridiculous. Some of my stuff was fine, but I swear one of my sweaters wasn't cleaned. It just didn't seem clean! And a couple things smelled that smell when you leave something in the wash for too long. you know that smell? I mean, my stuff didn't smell like that BEFORE I brought it in, and it certainly shouldn't smell like that AFTER picking it up! Oh--one more big thing...more like a little thing. One of my shirts with all these little buttons down the front will not button. No, not because of my stomach. It won't button on the hanger, either. The little button loops literally shrunk. She was turning out the lights & locking the door - but opened back up, let me in & even waited patiently while I went down the block to get cash (I didn't realize they don't take credit cards, no matter what the purchase amount.) Forest Cleaners was the stop for my cleaning needs when I lived in Lincoln Square. It is reasonably priced, less than a $1.50 for shirts, $3 something for trousers and $3.50 for sweaters. They usually take less than 2 days to get it done and I've never had a complain with their cleaning. On the days I had to travel, they were also kind enough to fold and pack my shirts in plastic bags (the way new shirts are sold in stores). It gets 4 stars because they only take cash and are usually pretty grumpy! read more

This is our regular dry cleaner as it is in a great location (right off the Western brown line stop), is reasonably priced, and we have never had any issues with our clothes. The reason I am writing this review though is the amazing service that they provided me today. I ordered a dress online for my baby shower and of course waited until the last minute to order it which means it got delivered the day before the shower. It turns out the dress was a bit too long and needed to be hemmed. I called Forest Cleaners at around 3:30pm on a Saturday to ask if they did emergency same day hemming and they told me to come right in. I went over immediately and they hemmed it and had it ready to go in about 1 hour. They really helped me out and I truly appreciate it! I couldn't be happier with the service. read more

They wanted $6.75 to dry clean (including spot removal) a dress of mine. Every other dry cleaner within walking distance wanted at least $5.00 more. They're friendly, and I've never had an item not to be ready or not be as I requested, as the case has been at other places. I'm new to the neighborhood, and came here on my roommate's recommendation, and I'll be staying here thanks to the lower prices, and friendly & timely service. read more

These guys are great. They are open until 7 (and haven't closed early to my knowledge). Prices are good and they always remember what I need when I am throwing them my clothes, blurting out buttons and hem and then running out the door to catch the el. Usually I forget my dry cleaner for a week or so but this location is in the middle of my hood and I will always see it when I am driving or going to dinner or the Davis theater. As usual, you get what you pay for. They're not too expensive, but I pay more than I'd prefer. They will fix your clothes after they have been ruined by another dry cleaner. I trust them with my most beloved and sentimental dry-clean-only possessions. read more

Forest's prices are extremely resonable for all services and the ladies that run the joint are very nice and very helpful. I never get anything dry cleaned, so I had no idea where to dry clean a friend's dress I borrowed as well as restitch two flowers that came undone. Although I could have sewn them myself, I decided I would have the professionals at Forest Cleaners do it and I'm glad i did! The dress looks just like it did when I got it. I'm surpirsed at some of the lukewarm and even bad reviews because this place is great! They're the cheapest from what I've seen around and the ladies are always very nice, always smiling and very polite. I dropped off 11 shirts and 4 pairs of pants on a Monday at 6pm and they had them all ready at 5pm the next day! The fact that they only take cash is a small inconvenience, but that pales in comparison to all of the other pluses (I'm also slightly biased because my bank's ATM is a few steps down the way.) read more

I have tried every cleaner in my area and Forest Cleaners is my absolute favorite. It is the only dry cleaner I use now. They always remember who I am, and have always been friendly. I like their location which is about as close to the Western Brown line stop as you can get; Makes getting there and getting home that much easier. If I point out stains or something that needs special attention they take care of it. Their pricing is more than reasonable, especially when you consider that there are other cleaners nearby that have charged me 60% more for the same work (only once when I was trying everyone). read more

I had a button that needed to be sewed back on to a blazer. This is pretty common for me, since I buy used clothes and the buttons pop off from time to time. In the past, at other dry cleaners, this has cost a couple bucks (up to $7 for a coat once) and I've usually had to come back in a few hours. ...but I just walked into Forest Cleaners and the kind lady behind the counter stopped what she was working on, reattached the button, AND strengthened the other button that was still attached. Her hand stitching was great and the whole thing took less than the time it took me to write this review. On top of that, she refused payment! That made my day. Will go back again! read more

I love this place for alterations. Dry cleaning is OK. I am a skilled seamstress and fashion designer. I destroyed the hem of a silk chiffon maxi dress with my heels. I tried to save it but silk chiffon is terrible to work with bc it's very slippery. This place rolled the hem and it looks fantastic. I went to a bridal store who quoted me $60. Forest cleaners $13. Sold. I've taken other complicated invisible hems with cuffs and they did a great job. Dry cleaning - clothes were clean but the ironing/pressing could have been crisper. This is my first time coming here and I'm already very pleased with the service. I had a dress and 3 shirts that were due for pickup today. I stopped in this morning right when they opened, knowing there was a chance my stuff might not be there (I think most places usually tell you after 5pm on the day of pickup?). I really wanted one of the shirts for tomorrow night and was worried I wouldn't be able to get back from work tonight in time to get it. It turns out the dress and 2 of the shirts were ready (including the one I wanted) but they were just waiting on the last shirt to be done, which she said would be by the afternoon. The woman was really nice and let me just take the shirt I needed, without even paying and said I could just take care of it when I came back for the rest. I'm sure she would have let me take all 3 items but I was in a rush to get to work and was just happy to have the shirt I wanted. Their prices also seem reasonable - especially compared to another cleaner I had been using nearby but stopped going because I thought they were expensive. So I have to say I think I've found a new cleaners! read more

I am a frequent customer and recently took a pair of pants in and they came back ruined with spots. The people here refused to take responsibility or even refund the price that it cost to clean them. There are a lot of cleaners in the area. I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

I took in a down comforter last weekend and went to pick it up today. The first thing I noticed was that the down was way degraded and thought to myself... oh no! They ruined my comforter. Luckily i noticed it was a King size and not even the comforter I took in in the first place. They even looked at the two tickets when I picked it up so who knows what shaddyness is going on here. read more

They do a great job for dry cleaning and tailoring. If there is a problem, they offer to fix it.

I brought the dress back and to my happy surprise, the owner totally took responsibility for what had happened. She had sent it out to be cleaned and did not realize that the beads had been removed. She went to the store that I bought the dress from to see if they had another so she could try to repair the dress to its original state. It's from the summer so no luck. She then took the dress to a fabric store with the picture I gave her to try and is still trying to repair it. Hopefully it turns out well but I greatly appreciate her honesty and effort. read more
