i've had to fight for every paycheck despite having been freelancing with the same company through them for nearly 5 years, and it took them a solid 2 years to get around to telling me about their sick day policy: costing me several days of owed pay. I've had paychecks come back with 2x the normal amount of taxes withheld due to "administrative errors." I've had paychecks come in calculated a good $5 lower than my agreed rate for multiple weeks. I've been refused confirmations for my assignments despite numerous attempts at communication, costing me hours of lost time from trying to convince building managers and security staff that I was, indeed, supposed to be working in their building. I have over 10 years of experience in my industry, and whenever they reach out with opportunities, they have the lowest hourly rate of any agency i've worked with, and consistently tell me my hourly rates are too high. $19/hour for someone with over a decade of highly technical experience is absurd. Pretty Great. I haven't found a better agency for the healthcare industry in NY. They worked hard to find me a place that worked for me. Sent me on several interviews and found me quite a few jobs. I've left healthcare, but when I was working in it, the teams over there were on it. I'm not sure how they do outside of healthcare. Sometimes you have to be patient, but I know they are working on it if you're in healthcare and submitted a resume. It seems like they're connected with everyone in the space. read more

Although they aren't super professional on a whole, my agent Sharon always kept me updated with job opportunities and always followed up with me regularly. She helped place me, in my current job and has consistently followed-up with me to see how things have been transpiring. She is very take-charge and brutally honest, but in a good way. My only complaint about Winston is the fact that nobody ever picks up, when you dial their main line. It just rings profusely and there is no voicemail service. I thought it might have been a fluke a couple of times or I might have called during lunch hours however, this doesn't seem to be the case. Anytime I call, nobody picks up and I have seen two receptionists at the front desk everytime I've been in their office. Isn't a receptionists job "to receive" calls and correspondences?! The beauty of irony! You'd also think that working at a staffing agency would give you insight on job descriptions and expectations! read more

She couldn't answer a simple question and got defensive for her lack of professionalism, or perhaps she thought she could get away with her lies. She showed me a printed email from someone thanking her in attempt to prove her reliability as a recruiter. The company she recommended has working hours over 9 hours per day. The reviews are just awful for that company as well. When I decided to cancel the interview, the email I received from Fran was just plain rude and indecent. So you're a bit stressed out, looking for your next gig and are invited into Winston by a recruiter, Fern Ring (FR). Here's what to expect. Within minutes of meeting, FR will ask your astrology sign. She'll look disappointed that you have no idea what your rising sun or moon or whatever is. You'll talk about your professionalism and your organizational skills while sitting on a filthy seat cushion in an even filthier cubicle piled high with candidate files, the names clearly visible. While FR interrupts the interview to take frequent, endless phone calls you'll have time to mull over why you're still sitting there, in a suit, feeling like the shrink they bring in on Hoarders. When FR comes up for air she'll take a look at your resume and tell you it needs to be "dumbed down" for the kinds of roles she'll push you toward (i.e. outside your industry and well below your minimum compensation requirements). As unprofessional and untrustworthy as they come. read more

My experience with Winston Resources was a long and complicated one. At first there have been issues actually applying on the web site where they would pretty much stop dead at certain points so id be stuck and unable to continue my application. Tried again a few years later, it worked, waited to hear any response as to what my next step was - then finally has an appointment with a recruiter. Things began to look promising when my recruiter seemed very positive, talked me up to sound like there were possibilities for jobs and would do well. I got help tweaking my resume and mad it sound stronger, was told they had at least 3 different position available for me. I was told to call back at the end of the week to follow up - was then told to take online skill assessment tests - THAT was when things went downhill. It took them a week to send me the link where they have to give a permission code to use - so it took time to get it started, and once completed I have not once heard back from my recruiter. I have left countless voicemail messages with no reply, called the front desk to say ive been trying to reach my recruiter for weeks and hear no response, but was then told he was in his office - get transferred to to his line - only to go to voicemail again. Kept ignoring my emails, and my calls for what is now a whole month. What was all that about im "well spoken" or 'have a bunch of positions set up"? At least be honest and answer my damn messages, emails or calls. This is incredibly unprofessional and childish. read more

I have known Fran Gellis since 1994 when she placed me at my first job in manhattan. Through the years we have always been in contact whether I needed a job or my company was looking to hire or she was just checking in I became unemployed in February and immediately contacted her. She made me a top priority and also connected me with counterparts in NY and NJ who specialized in real estate. I was sent on one interview about a month ago and surprisingly the interviewer had not nice things to say about my interview. Fran was really supportive and told me she would keep looking and keep pushing her counterparts I got a call from Fran yesterday, an amazing placement opportunity had come to her and was a perfect fit for me. They are rude and expect the candidate to do all the work. When you're earning a commission off of my employment, you better read my emails, get my name right and lose the snotty attitude. On the other hand, if you like being treated like a number and like you should be begging for a job and on your knees with gratitude that someone can send exactly one email (no phone calls) on your behalf and then subsequently be rewarded with 90 days of your pay... by all means use this agency.
