We went for an appraisal of my grandmother's Sarouk that had been ruined in storage for potential insurance reimbursement. As other's have mentioned, Sia is very knowledgeable, open, and frank about rugs -- noting that this type of Sarouk, while old, is not particularly valuable since they were very popular in the 1920's, it had a lot of wear, had been motheaten, and that, most importantly, in his experience movers/storage and insurance companies will not pay off for moth damage. So he advised us not to waste our money on what would have been a $400 professional appraisal, and take whatever they might give us. I can well imagine a less scrupulous rug gallery giving me inflated hopes and wringing the appraisal fee out of us. So for no cost we had a fun and informative visit -- Thanks, Sia! read more

I have a 9' 6" x 11' 6" hand tufted wool rug which is a classical oriental-style replica. I bought it used 5 years ago. It has been in a high traffic area and been through several dogs, some better trained than others. Needless to say, it was incredibly dirty, and had a bad odor. Elias gave me a quote via email, then we spoke on the phone. He was polite, professional, and on time to pick it up. I had a specific turn around time need because I was moving. The rug was not only returned on time, it was deodorized (extra, if your rug smells before it is cleaned, pay the extra for it, all the places charge the same for it - so worth it). It looks AMAZING, and is so soft it looks and feels like new front and back. I recommend you give them a try. I have two more large hand tied wool true oriental rugs, and I will be transporting them to Winter Park Rug Gallery for cleaning in the near future (I moved to another county, out of their pick up/delivery area). read more

Met Sia recently when I was desperately trying to find out a fair market value for Persian rugs owned previously by my family. He was so friendly and incredibly helpful in identifying the exact origins of the rugs and what specific decade they were made as well as other professional verbiage specific to each of the five rugs I showed him detailed photos of. We chatted for some time as I was overwhelmed by his openness to helping me so we started talking about other things related to the rug business and what's happened overall to the value of many of these oriental rugs. I felt him to be a very honest, kind man. I decided to keep one of the rugs and brought it in to him for cleaning and he did a fantastic job. Thanks Sia! He's also very knowledgeable about other antiques and has a store filled with beautiful objects. If he doesn't know the piece's value you're bringing into him, he'll research until he finds some idea. Auction buyer beware! I purchased and won an item through their online auction. I have done this multiple times before with auction houses across the country, and check on their requirements ahead of time. I was so excited when one of my bids won. I also received a follow up email confirming my win. Days later, the auction house sends me an email canceling my win due to not reaching the reserve (there was no mention of a reserve in the description or requirements). Then, when I emailed them back about it they were rude & told me it was partially bc I didn't register to bid. Again, I verified all of this prior to the auction. No registration was required, there was no mention of a reserve, (they also had a buyer's premium listed as 0%, which I knew was wrong & confirmed), and I won and received a winning email only to have them say I was canceled! If I had buyer's remorse do you think I could have said nevermind? Absolutely not! Do not purchase from them online! read more
