Our son has blossomed at Winwood (Reston). Ms. Ruth, Mr. Wayne, and Ms. Pushpa (Pre-K) introduce topics and concepts in an interesting manner, while teaching important social skills. Our son embraces the fun and engaging curriculum and applies what he's learned outside the classroom with excitement. The Director/Assistant Director invest in each child, becoming part of the daily experience. I had a confirmed tour scheduled. My least concern was there being an error on Winwood's part and was not contacted to reschedule my tour. Although it was disappointing to know the schedule was mismanaged and we were not informed that there was no one available to give us our scheduled tour - which we schedule in advance two weeks earlier. My main concern and serious safety issue(s) I noticed dealt with the front desk and entry process. I arrived to the facility and rang the doorbell, at that point there was no one at the front desk so I waited. Several parents entered or left the facility - at any point which I could of "slipped" in but I didn't want to alarm the facility so I wanted until the locked door was opened for me by an employee. The front desk lady returned to her desk, so I rang the bell again. She didn't look up from her desk as I rang the bell a 3rd and 4th time over the next 5 minutes. Never did the women look in my direction or respond to the doorbell. After the 4th attempt a mother was entering the facility, I asked her if the doorbell worked. She said she didn't know because she always used the code. Since I had not been greeted by the front desk lady and it was past my tour start time at this point I followed the mother into the facility. I went up to the front desk and asked the lady/employee if the doorbell worked? She said oh I don't know but the code is XXXX. I quickly stopped her and said I am not a mother hence you should not be giving out the code to a stranger. She looked puzzled; I said I am here for a tour. I have an appointment. She said there were no tours scheduled and I was mistaken. I found that a rather brash statement and pulled up the email sent the day I scheduled the tour as well as the confirmation email I received days prior to the tour and my response to confirm the tour and stated that we would be there. She told me the director is gone and the assistant director had a death in the family. She then asked if I would like to reschedule. I said no, not after this horrible experience. I been waiting outside for over 6 minutes, rang the doorbell 4 times, and you sat at your desk for 5 of the 6 minutes and never looked up to see who was standing at the door all that time. I said and then, when the stranger at the door follows mother inside you provide that stranger with the door code not questions asked!? By this point the woman was flustered, I could tell she wanted me to leave, and I gladly didn't mind because safety and awareness of her surrounds was so poor I would not feel safe allowing my child to be at the facility. This place should be on higher alert to those "hanging around/at" their front doors and certainly notice someone there for 5 minutes. Furthermore, they should notice when a person who does not have an access code follows someone else into the building. They are literally backing up to Embry Rucker Shelter and Reston Town Center, and staff should be more aware and concern with young children's safety. read more

I enrolled my daughter when she was 2 years old. She is now 4 years old and I'm loving it and she does too. She always comes home singing the songs that she learns each day in her Prekindergarten Class. My daughter's teacher is amazing and really does many activities to help my daughter and other children succeed in all areas of learning such as fine motor skills, math, science, sensory, phonics, handwriting, reading, Spanish, lego engineering and so much more! My daughter has made a huge improvement since she started this preschool. She was previously attending a home daycare but she wasn't learning anything and for me education is very important. I also love the fact that I get progress reports many times during the year so I know how my daughter is doing and what I need to work on with her. As a parent I get a daily report so I can see what activities she has done that day. Both the Director and Assistant director are amazing. They are always there for you when you need them. My 3 1/2 year old daughter started preschool for the first time here at Winwood about a month ago. I love the open door policy and the patience her teachers have with her transitioning. She had made many new friends & seems genuinely happy when she's there. She likes her teachers & we all love how much she is learning! Her teachers have given me very good advice on everything from transitioning to potty training. It has been an adjustment for both my daughter & I and her teachers have made us both feel comfortable during this process. So far so good! read more

My 9 year old attends Winwood for after school care and LOVES the program. Each night when picking him up, he begs to stay. Even on weekends, he asks if he can go to Winwood. Winwood has a top-notch staff, each member offering the children incredible support, kindness, and lots of laughs. Plenty of activities to keep kids busy and never bored. Food service at Winwood is excellent (my son prefers their food over mine). Hours are what initially brought me here, but it is the kindness and attention they give that keeps me at Winwood. Our experience with Winwood was disappointing and after just a few months, we transferred our son to a new school. Teachers (or more like just daycare nannies) show little care for the kids and don't do anything to help develop the kids or get involved. The classroom is not clean enough and our son was sick all the time with dried up snots running down his face every time I pick him up. We moved him to a new school recently and his development and health improved and thrived significantly. He's much happier and already learning so much at the new school. read more

I have never taken the time to write a review which indicates how strongly I feel about providing this one. I started my daughter in Winwood at Reston when she was around 5 months old. I would have put her in this school from the beginning had there been a spot for her but knowing what I know now, I am not surprised that there was a waiting list. I had my child in another school when she was 10 weeks old until we moved her to Winwood. From the first day that I brought her to Winwood, I saw an actual difference in her. At the end of the day when I picked her up, she was very alert and engaged. I could tell she had been actively engaged by the teachers and environment all day. So what makes it so great? Here is my top list of reasons: 1. The teachers are WONDERFUL! They truly treat your child as their own. They also help new parents like myself navigate the different development stages (such as rolling over, crawling, using a sip cup to using a regular cup, sharing, etc...). 2. The facility itself is warm and inviting and each class room is well laid out, maintained and decorated. My daughter goes into the classroom and immediately gets immersed in something. 3. They have solid security features. They have a passcode to get into the building, a check in/out system and security cameras in all of the rooms that parents and family members can view. The grandparents LOVE being able to peek in on her throughout the day! 4. The curriculum. I know my daughter is less than 2 but she has learned sign language, animals and their sounds, colors, and more. I love that she gets to play but is also getting educated! 5. The level of communication with the parents. I love the consistent emails and newsletters from the administration and teachers. 6. And finally did I mention the teachers!!!!!! They are all so wonderful. Just when I thought I would never be able to like her next set up teachers better than the ones in her last class room, I always have. So if you are looking for a daycare...look no further! You MUST go see Winwood at Reston! read more

Terrible!! I enrolled my 6 month old daughter here after reading the great reviews, but it was a big disappointment. I pulled her out in 3 days. I drop her Monday at 10, and I went back to check on her at 1. In 3 hours, the teachers were complaining that my daughter was fussy and wanted to be held. It was her first day, she is supposed to cry. Then there were some teachers who suggested me, I shouldnt be holding her too much at home. I agree, my daughter was demanding that day, but she is 6 months old and it was her first day in a new environment. The reason I was paying higher at this day care, was because I had the option to watch my child whenever. I login and see both the cameras pointing to the same play area, and there were hardly any kids there. In 3 days, I saw my daughter on the camera just once. I called them and said maybe the camera is not positioned properly, but nothing was done. I go back in the evening, I was told very rudely that she was very fussy. I gave 4 bottles for her and I see only one used and the other three untouched. I asked, and they said, she was not drinking, so they kept on feeding her from the same bottle the entire day. I asked if they dont discard the bottle after an hour, the response was "thats not how we do it here" I think its basic hygeine to throw infant's used food or milk after an hour and that is not what you do at the daycare? Babies are put to sleep in swings/rockers and in cribs with pillows around. There is no sticking to security guidelines. More than anything, what i missed to see is a loving environment. Babies will cry, i didnt want my baby to be held all the time, but I atleast expect a loving environment for my baby when I am not around. read more

We love Winwood - Reston and we miss it so much. All three of our children, at one point or another, have attended Winwood - Reston so it holds a special place in our hearts. We just moved and had to find a new daycare closer to our new home, but otherwise, we would have stayed at Winwood for as long as we needed childcare. The teachers and staff were so loving to our children. They made Winwood my children's home away from home. Besides the wonderful educational experience that Winwood provides, they provided something that is even more important to us - they showered my children with hugs and kisses and made them feel safe and loved every single day. They took the time to really get to know my kids and would share stories about my kids' days with my husband and me. Most days, it would take some time for me to get out of Winwood after picking up my kids because all the teachers would always stop us to say hello. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Winwood - Reston to any family that needs a wonderful daycare. Thank you so much for loving and caring for our kids all these years. read more
