There's nothing that makes it an extraordinary stop except for it's location right along the river. It's easy to find yourself spending a lot of time watching all the activity on the river. This is a nice rest stop to watch the boat traffic on the river, have a picnic while doing the same, or getting details about all the touristy things to do in the area from the helpful visitor center employees or just picking up the brochures to explore on your own. The visitor center is on two levels, one that takes you along the walkway along the river and the picnic area, and the lower level if you just want to use the facilities and keep moving on your road trip.

There is a good amount of parking and the bathrooms are clean. I also noticed a flower vase and decor in the women's restroom and the garbage being emptied while we were here so it certainly seems like this location is well taken care of. There is a vending machine and pet relief area, as well as lots of grass and picnic tables. Signs posted say that trucks can stay 10 hours in a 24 hour period but standard vehicles can remain no more than 4 hours in a 24 hour period just FYI.

As well, the car area was next to the highway with the trucks further away. I prefer designs that help people slow down as they come in and put the cars further away from the road. This rest area has a playground and picnic tables and plenty of space for some green before you get back on the road. There are no signs prohibiting overnight parking which is a nice plus. Some emails on my LTE hotspot, making breakfast, drinking coffee, and doing a little bit of repair on the inside of the van. The parking area is very well back from the highway so there's absolutely no noise from vehicles going past. Four-wheeler parking is right next to the truck parking so you'll have them idling all night but other than that, this is a quiet and peaceful rest area. Michael at the front desk graciously allowed us to check in right away. It was so nice to be settled in our room before heading off on our jaunt. This Hampton Inn was immaculately clean no matter where we were and all the staff were so friendly. Being located close to downtown and the river was a huge plus for us, and parking in their lot was free. We plan on returning to the area this fall and will certainly book that stay with Hampton Inn.
