If you just need a house emptied and don't care about the value of the items or how they're handled, Diane might be fine. But if you want a professional estate sale that maximizes value and treats items with care and respect, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Our family had a very disappointing experience with Diane's estate sale service. Here's why: 1. Items were heavily discounted before the public sale even started. Large items were listed online and reduced by 25%-50% before Day 1 of the actual sale being open to the public. We expected a standard pricing approach: full price Day 1, some discounts on Day 2, and larger markdowns on Day 3. Instead, everything was marked down from day 1: example, a china cabinet marked at $60, was 50% off on the very first day of the public sale. A set of 12 goblets priced at $2, plus 1/2 off (on the first day). 2. Poor advertising and visibility. On the first day of the public sale, there were no signs on the busy main road or nearby corners--just a couple in front of the house. When asked about this, Diane said the sale was for "friends, family, and loyal customers." But our family had already taken what they wanted, so it wasn't clear who the sale was really for cause it wasn't for our friends, family, that's for sure. 3. Mishandling of leftover items. We asked for unsold items to be left so we could review what remained. Instead, we found garbage bags and "donation" boxes.Here are just a few examples of what we found. Inside the garbage, we discovered: New fabric, a brand-new nightgown, and unexpired canned food Working electronics and knives tossed into trash bags (unsafe and unrecycled) Wrapping paper, cardboard, and recyclable items placed in the garbage instead of recycling bins Many of these items could have easily gone to donation centers or been responsibly recycled. It showed a lack of care and organization in the cleanout process. 4. Additional issues. It appeared Diane used the house to store unrelated sale items, turning it into a makeshift warehouse. This felt unprofessional and disrespectful. Bottom line: This was not the estate sale service we were promised. Items were undervalued, the sale wasn't properly advertised, and the handling of leftovers was careless. We trusted Diane with our loved one's belongings and were left feeling disrespected and disappointed. read more

I recommended Diane and Wise Estate Services to a friend who was moving and had a very quick timetable regarding her move. I had used her to help me with my father's home after he was moved to a different living environment. Unfortunately, the experience was less than ideal and I feel my friend was taking advantage of by Diane. She charged her a very high fee for the sale of her items which were in excellent condition, her home was already very well organized and she provided Diane much research with receipts for many items which were recently purchased. There were other issues like inaccurate pricing of items, not listing the online sale in the time frame promised, etc. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Diane to any family or friends who are seeking this type of service. read more

Very dishonest. They listed items available to purchase online. So, in good faith, I made the purchase. She accepted my payment. Once payment went through, I received an email that said Diane would get in touch with me to make arrangements to pick up the items. I finally reached out after not hearing from Diane, only to be disappointed that the item had been sold at a previous sale - weeks before. When my father passed away a few years ago, I contacted Diane Wise Estate Service to view my fathers estate. Diane showed up and my brother and I went over things with her. Items that were not for sale she claimed would get a note put on them, stating, "NOT FOR SALE." My father had his electrical service set up to be run off of a generator outside hookup during a power outage. Diane Wise was instructed by me personally why the generator in the garage was not for sale and that the generator would be sold with the home. Sure enough, Diane Wise Estate Services sold the generator. The realtor listing the house had been specifically told the generator would stay with the home as part of the sale. When I E-mailed Wise Estate services that they had sold the generator that I specifically talked to her in person about "NOT" selling, she replied in writing in a E-mail that she was sorry it got sold by one of her associates. I replied in writing in a E-mail that it would have to be replaced for reasons previously referenced in this post. Wise Estate Services refused to replace the generator even though her E-mail reply to me was an admission of their actions regarding the unauthorized sale of the generator. This eventually ended up in a Dearborn Heights court room where Wise Estate Sales clearly had friends or relationships with a woman from the court system that communicated with Diane openly several times in that court room. One also could fairly draw the conclusion that there had to be some ill doings by the judge. He would not make a decision in front of the court room that day because he knew he was going to make a unethical decision. The decision came in a letter a few days after my family's court appearance. The judge decided in favor of Wise Estate Sales. I wrote a letter to the judge directly expressing my family's utter disgust of his unethical decision. In closing I directly asked him, "HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT." Wow, as a jaded New Yorker, I never expected to work with a team this thorough. If I could give six stars I would. My wife's mother passed away, and we needed to get her family home cleaned out and ready to sell quickly. Her dad wasn't capable of helping and we live in California. We needed a local expert in Plymouth. Wise Estate Services came highly recommended by a friend. After a walk through, I saw a house full of junk and bad taste accumulated over a lifetime. Diane saw a potential. They organized, displayed, and priced for a successful three day sale. They hauled away literally everything left, including random food items that had expired in the cabinets and fridge. When we walked through days before the sale, I was overwhelmed by "stuff". When I walked in the day after the sale, there was literally nothing left in the house except for the family Victrola, which we asked not to sell. Nothing left, empty house. And they took care to mind the white wall-to-wall carpeting! Diane is not only professional and on point, but she's really compassionate about items located in the process. She followed up many times upon finding additional photos, family movies, and curios. If you need to liquidate, you should call her for a consultation. Diane has an extensive email list of buyers and her sales are always well attended. She is different from other estate sale companies, in that she charges a flat fee rather than commission. She also sells 90% of the contents and donates/puts to the curb the remaining 10%. She is able to do this successfully, as she prices items realistically, unlike many other companies. Those companies have a lot of merchandise left over after the sale that owners still have to deal with or sell to the estate company for a pittance. So, if your goal is to get top dollar and have a lot unsold at the end of the day, maybe go with another company. If, on the other hand, you need the house cleared and don't have the time, ability, or desire to do it yourself, definitely give Diane a call. Her employees are also very nice! read more

I had absolutely no experience going into helping my parents plan for an estate sale and frankly thought it was a waste of time because there wasn't enough value in their possessions. A friend recommended Diane as she had attended many of her sales. I could not be happier with my choice. When we began the process of planning an estate sale my parents had just moved into an independent living situation but had probably 70% of their possessions in the house that we needed to remove to prepare for the home sale. I did not have the energy or time to deal with their house, I would have paid out of pocket to have this job taken off my back as I live in California. First Diane reviews the contents of the house and makes sure that there is enough value in the home to pay her flat rate. There was no commission on the items sold. It was a no brainer! It took a bit longer than planned but not because she could not schedule the work. My mother passed away 2 weeks after I hired her so I had more to deal with then just a house. Coming back to MI the house was already prepped for me to go over the contents that would be important to me. Her staff had set aside papers, photos, personal items that I needed to dig through. We met a couple of times during my short visit and she was so personable and caring and very relaxed which helped ease my stress. With my mom's passing, there were a number of issues that my father could not address. She found and saved personal memoires, got rid of all the food in the house (packaged food was donated), set aside items I told her family or friends would come to claim, met with my parents minister to give him all the bibles and other spiritual items. There was a ton of trash and I had her work with my neighbors to distribute appropriately. The estate sale went very well. About a week after the sale the few items left were picked up and removed for donation. Only a couple furniture pieces needed to be junked and she arranged for that pick up as well. Any expenses incurred along the way she paid for and deducted from the proceeds. I honestly felt like an Angel had been sent to me. Four weeks after the estate sale the house was on the market. My mom passed in April, the house sold in June, it would have been way more stressful without Diane's help. With a business like this you would think the owner would not have such an interest in people. She honestly wanted the best for us, related really well with my parents and eased all my worries. THEN decided to do research on the item As I continued to shop. Then refused to sell it to me. The best part was the owner lied and said "someone must have placed that after my crew left. I never saw that item" Yes lady. Someone mysteriously came in and put an $800 item in the house AFTER you all left and you were going to sell it to me for $10. Haha. Outstanding!! Diane and her team provided nothing short of a five-star experience. When my dad passed away in May, my grief was compounded with the daunting task of preparing his house to be sold. Diane her team were extremely thorough, and went through every nook and cranny of my dad's house to find potential sale items. I have been involved in sales and marketing for almost 27 years, much of it in training and upper management. I'm the highest ranked manager in my company's history. I know a good marketer when I meet one (and I'd love to interrogate the couple negative reviews I saw). They can't be talking about the same person (unless there's an alternate motive). I always make a point to interview at least 3 people/companies for any big decisions. Diane was my last interview and I had only one concern..... She DID NOT CHARGE COMMISSION. Flat rate. I wondered where the motivation would be???? Everything else was great and she came Highly recommended so I went with her. Once that decision was made .... I had zero second thoughts. From the beginning she was honest, encouraging and showed that she was definitely out for my best interests. On the 1st day of the sale, I was blown away by the quantity of people standing in line to get in. The last 2 days - major snow storm. Diane made ZERO EXCUSES. She said all would be good. It was. Items I thought would never sell - SOLD. Some items for more than I thought, others a bit less. In the end, Diane proved she was better than her word - over 95% sold, donation with tax write off and all the useless leftover junk taken to the curb. I can't begin to tell you what an awful experience we had with Wise Estate Services. It was mostly with Diane's attitude. She was very rude and obnoxious. She said my belongings were old and not worth much. Hence she practically gave my furniture away. I wouldn't be surprised if she really did give it away. But my biggest issue with her was her reluctance to tell me what she sold my furniture for. She gave me a partial list of what she sold. When I asked her for a list of everything she said it's on the list. I repeatedly asked her about certain items and she'd give me snarky answers. For instance I asked how much she got for my foyer rug. She said $10. $10 more than she should have gotten for that old thing! While she was at my home a glass candle was broken down the disposal and when I asked her about it she said that the new home owners and their rugrats probably did it! Seriously? I live in Arizona as does my sister, but when my Dad passed away, we found our hands full with trying to settle his life via multiple trips across country. My Dad was an "organized collector" so there was a lot of stuff, but at least you could locate and categorize. However the time involved in getting a sale together, charitable donations, giving remembrances to friends, etc. was just not available. Through a recommendation, Diane Wise stepped in and did a great job of taking control. My sister and I were directed to take personal papers, photos, and anything else we wanted. All else was to be left for Diane and her crew to eliminate from the house by whatever means of sale or donation or trash. We couldn't have handled this so we're extremely grateful to Diane for getting us to the "finish line" after we'd long worn out on all of the other tasks and travelling. Yes, there was some disorganization, mis-identification of what was for sale or not, but that was not unexpected. There was a lot of stuff to go through. I also had the misfortune of falling for Diane Wise promises. In record time promises turned to lies. Did you check her website under The Company? I particularly loved the line that said "An average project takes roughly 10 days to prepare, price and advertise the sale." She and her staff had a total of 11 hours at my home before the sale started. I literally had to fight to get that much time. Since she charged us the higher fee she spent over 70 hours on the phone or computer on our behalf. YA RIGHT!!!! These 11 precious hours of expert pricing, and preparing did not even get 3/4 of our home ready for the sale. Big ticket items went not priced, piled in boxes or still in cabinets. She got an attitude when I asked her to bring more tables. It's hard to sell furniture covered in sale items. But my VERY FAVORITE line is "We will provide ALL of the resources needed to organize, display, research, price and sell the contents of the home in a professional and CUSTOMER FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE" She must of missed where WE ARE customers also. I have never had to deal with such a unprofessional, nasty tempered, selfish, and rude woman in my life!!!! Her research is a joke. Does she even try? By her pricing I doubt it. One of her three objectives is to maximize the proceeds from the sale. REALLY!!!!!! She prices items like she is running a garage sale so she can make her "90% of the contents of the home sold" statement. I am afraid to think what price she gave away my items to her "loyal customer base"for. In conclusion: If you have experienced her services you have my deepest sympathy. I only wish I could give this "business" NO STARS. Estate sale junkies beware!!!! This company lists prices on some of the item for sale. There was an outdoor dining set I REALLY REALLY wanted, so I drove to the sale very early. I was the FIRST person there. When I saw it in the back yard (I was told it was OK to go back there before the sale), I informed one of the operators that I will be buying it. She asked if I was the one who called about it. I said no, but asked since when does ANY estate sale operation "HOLD" an item because of a phone call about it? She said she'd "see" who would get it. OMG!! I thought she had to be flipping kidding me. I'm standing right there...in front of her... with the $$ in my hand!! A half an hour later she TOTALLY changed her story and said the "new owners" of the house will be keeping it. Wonder if she would have come up with a third story had I stuck around for a little while longer. I wasted TWO HOURS of my life and TEN DOLLARS of gas to drive to this BAIT AND SWITCH scam of a business. I will NEVER waste my time and gas money to go to any of their sales again. Keep that fact in mind if you are thinking of hiring them to put on YOUR estate sale. I go to MANY estate sales in metro Detroit and tend to see the same people at every good sale. Diane is a very dishonest person. She has an upcoming estate sale where you can "buy ahead" items. I notice an item I'm interested in, so I call her and leave a voice mail. She texts me a little later saying she would make sure the item is in working condition and send me pictures and for me to text her the next morning. I respond saying ok, but I'm willing to purchase sight unseen. She doesn't respond. I text her the next morning and she responds saying she sold the item making several excuses about a person from the home owner association bought the item I was interested in and some other things (I'm thinking cherry picked by friends or family). She also made the excuse that there was a $100 minimum. I told her that nowhere on her personal website nor the estate sale website does it state the buy ahead limit (she has now edited it to state a $100 limit). I also told her I would have have bought more to make her "limit", but I never had the chance. I will never visit Diane's sales or use her services as she is a dishonest person. She has helped me to know what will sell, what should be given away and what should be tossed. I will soon be doing an estate sale. Diane is extremely energetic and gets the job done. She has a large customer base who come to the sales. This helps to make sure that the items have the best chance at being sold. Estate sales are a tricky business because there are many customers (like the ones who are moaning and groaning here) who expect way beyond what the typical provider of such services offers. It is NOT the job of an estate sales service provider to offer professional appraisals of artwork, fine jewelry, depression glass, or whatever else the prospective customers feels is "worth a lot". That's the job of a professional appraiser who typically charges $200 (when they are benevolently minded!) to appraise only so many items and not the contents of the entire residence. That's the first thing. Secondly, going to an estate sale is not like a visit to the museum or an antiques dealer; it's basically an indoor garage sale--- so nobody is going to be papering the walkways or hallways or whatever else so the "filth" stays off the floors and carpeting. Third, if one wants to empty a residence of everything in it that doesn't sell---consider hiring professional movers for that job. Last, but certainly not least, is this issue of what should or shouldn't be sold as part of any sale. If you have items you don't want sold, how is that the estate seller's responsibility to know the difference if it's there and not "marked" in some way as "Not For Sale"? Last time I checked, estate sales professionals were NOT mind readers! I, myself, would rather clean toilets than be in this type of business because it does take a certain personality to deal with all the ridiculousness of customers who want everything done for them...for free or cheaper! Diane is a lovely woman who really wants to help people who are transitioning from their home to wherever else---especially within the senior population. In that regard, if more adult children of these seniors would step up---then perhaps the need for third party providers like Diane wouldn't even be necessary. So for me, I'm grateful her business exists. I have known her since she owned a highly successful consignment store in downtown Northville for many years; she knows what she is doing and she's good enough at it.
