My sewing machine DIED (after 42 years) while making face coverings. The staff at Wish Upon A Quilt was very patient and went through all my options. I hadn't planned to buy a new sewing machine, but knew it was definitely coming. I used the web information provided and purchased one over the phone that fit my sewing mission and my pocketbook. It was loaded into the back of my car, headed home. Unpacked it and I am off and sewing. The new machine is fabulous, just as advertised. Couldn't be happier. It is very close in operational characteristics to my old one (which is what I wanted), so not too much learning curve. My only hang-up is that I must use a different hand to raise the presser foot, only get it wrong about 30% of the time (down from 95%), so progress is being made. Thanks for being there! read more

So... I am not a quilter. You were asking me why are you reviewing this store then? Well, my best friend came to visit me and Raleigh from Ohio and she is a great quilter. So of course she wanted to do a quilting tour. I texted a friend who lives in Raleigh And she suggested we go to this store and another one which I will not mention. The other one people were not very friendly. They never reached out or asked us if they could help us. We were looking for some specific things and didn't know where to find them, so we spent a lot more time in the store than we actually planned on but it wasn't a good visit. Then we went to the store. The minute we walked in the door we were greeted, and when I say greeted, I mean with a big smile and can we help you? What are you looking for? Is there anything in particular you need? The person who was working, the store was delightful. She even took time to teach me and I am not quilter and she knew that, but still took the time to tell me what things were for. My friend ended up buying a bunch of stuff at that store. I was a little concerned because she was flying home and I wasn't sure it was all going to fit in her checked bag but we made it fit and we will be going back anytime she is in town. If you are a experienced quilter or one, just starting this is the store for you!!!! read more

They don't give prices over the phone - Not even the manufacturers suggested price - this was told to me by Katie (very rude on the phone) I told her that I called the other day to find out the general price of the new serger as I am in the market for one and was told that the person who could help me was teaching a class and to call back - when I called back I got this person (Katie) - very very rude about its a Janome "thing" they don't give prices over the phone - well maybe you guys should start giving some sort of price range over the phone and not waste anyone's time exposing them to unnecessary contact with the virus and getting them to ride over there for nothing if an item is not in their price range. Funny - So after I hung up with her I went onto the Janome website (REMEMBER as per Katie - Janome does not allow distributors to tell their clients the price).....but alas I find that Janome listed its MSRP as $1799 - OK so you can't tell me a price range but the people that you claim don't let you tell the price are posting on their website - well I appreciate that they posted it so I have an idea of what I will spend and I know that there is always a special or deal that goes on so I know the price range is important to me. Well also Janome dealers in AU are listing it as 799 in US dollars - I am sure that there is a 200$ shipping charge but still there is an idea of what it costs - You just lost a customer permanently and I will tell everyone that I know how you were on the phone - I have spent about 4K with Kathy when she was the owner - Sarah that works there is amazing and super helpful - she would have never talked to me the way Katie did - so RUDE !!! Oh and I was reasonably upset and all she did was try to raise her voice higher than mine instead of listening to me - I agree that I was NOT HAPPY - but her customer service skills ....suck So if you go to this shop and someone says their name is Katie - ask someone else to help you....LOL you will be glad you did....Or better yet go somewhere else - I hear that Quilt Lizzy in Warrenton carries Janome products and they are SUPER nice and accommodating - I actually have been to the one in Wake Forest - they do not have any sergers on premises but they have them in Warrenton - I did not want to drive up there but it is worth it to have someone that is nice talk to you! read more

Their selection is good and they are constantly getting new stock. Cathy (the owner) is accessible and friendly. Having sewn for decades, I have bought many sewing machines with both good and bad buying experiences. I finally hit the lottery both with my Janome from Wish Upon A Quilt and the actual buying process. I LOVE this machine! It fits me like the best pair of shoes I ever wore. Lynn patiently showed me all the features before I left despite the fact that she knew I had been sewing forever! Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks. LOL! The needle threader is EASY to use. The thread cutter works without unthreading my machine. The bobbin can be wound at the same time I am sewing. And I feel like a teenager showing off in her new 1958 Thunderbird convertible with the adjustable speed control. This thing can FLY! If you need fantastic help picking out a sewing machine, the folks at Wish can help you find the perfect fit! I love this place. (Can you tell?) PS. I ordered only once from this store after seeing a kit that they had online for $94.99. When I received the "kit".....all it was was an array of cut fabric. There was no pattern, no photo of what the quilt is supposed to look like and no directions. The "kit" was advertised on their website to include a color pattern. My "kit" arrived on Saturday after their store was closed so I had to wait until Monday to call their store. in the meantime I found the exact same kit at another online store for $65. ......$30 cheaper than Wish upon a Quilt! I called and explained how frustrated I was that I paid a premium price and did not receive the pattern as advertised. The sales lady asked what they could do to make me happy. I told her I would like them to price match the quilt kit, as I had found the same kit online for $30 cheaper, and send me the pattern to complete the kit. The sales lady got Cathy the owner on the phone to talk to me. She told me that they are human and everyone makes mistakes and she would mail me the pattern.......and if I had been nicer she would have given me some credit!.......oh my! Wow talk about customer service......over charge customers....don't send them the pattern for the overpriced kit......and then tell them too bad I would have given you credit, but you aren't nice enough! She also told me that I could mail the kit back to her, at MY expense, and she would credit me. I am a nice person. I don't feel happy to be overcharged and not receive what I pay for. I have bought quilt kits and sewing supplies online through many quilt stores and never had any problems. I am the president of our county's quilt club and will be sure to share my negative experience from "wish upon a quilt" store. To all potential customers of wish upon a quilt store......please try to be nice to Cathy!......or better yet save yourself money and the frustration of dealing with this store and shop somewhere else. read more

I contacted Wish Upon a Quilt, Raleigh via phone on Saturday, March 4, 2017 and inquired about service for my Janome Embroidery machine. I was quoted a price from "Lynn" of $89 to service/tune up my machine with a 2-3 day turnaround time. I thought this price was high since I called another Janome dealer earlier and they quoted me $50 charge with 2 week turnaround time. My friend who has made many expensive purchases from Wish Upon a Quilt, recommended Wish Upon a Quilt. Based on her recommendation and the turnaround time was much quicker, I decide to pay the higher price at Wish and bring my machine there that day. Lynn checked my machine in and gave me a service form to fill out. I question the $89 charge to Lynn and mentioned how I was quoted $50 from another Janome dealer. She again told me "the price is $89, that's what we charge" and I should "probably have it back by Weds." I requested picking it up on Tuesday since I was in the area, and she said "it all depends on when he picks it up and returns it". On Monday, I called WUAQ to get a status on my machine. I was told the machine was still there and the technician was notified in a voice message. I called Tues. and was told the same thing, the machine was not picked up. (No mention of pricing error.) Two days later, I received this voice message from WUAQ. "Hello, this is Lynn from WUAQ. I gave you the wrong price to service your machine. The price is $129 for tune-up. You need to call us back and let us know if you want us to have your machine serviced @$129, or you need to pick up your machine. Call us back to let us know what you want to do!" That was the message word for word. NO Apology what so ever. I was so taken back by this call, that I replayed the message to hear it a second time. I called back and spoke to Connie, who was extremely rude and told me that I was given the wrong price and if I want to take my machine somewhere else I could. I asked to speak to the owner and she told me that she was "out to lunch". I asked if she could have her call me back. She asked for my number and I said it's on the paperwork I filled out. She said, " I can't go get it, I'm too busy" in a very rude tone. I kept my composure and gave my number and then thanked her. Two hours later, still no call from owner, Kathy. I decided to call back and was told that she wasn't in. I said, "I called 2 hours ago and she was at lunch, will she be back?" I was then told she wasn't at lunch earlier when you called, she was just busy. I'm now see a pattern of lying. I again asked for Kathy to call me back before they close at 4. Just a few minutes before 4, Kathy returns my call. Her tone was snippy when I asked her how she was. She then asked me how I was and I told her disappointed and then explained how I was quoted a price of $89 and then told when I dropped off my machine it was $89 and how I anticipating getting my machine back today, Weds. At this point I had hoped my machine would be back so I complete projects. Kathy said that reason I was given the wrong price is because Lynn "was busy", working with another customer at the same time. I explained that there were 3 employees working at the time and only 1 other customer in the store. And if there was any question about the price, she should have asked her coworkers. She had ample time to ask when I called in the morning and then again in the afternoon when I dropped my machine off. Kathy started raising her voice to me, when I told her they should honor the price I was quoted twice and how I was inconvenience. There was absolutely no apology or empathy from the owner. At that point, I decided I wouldn't want them to service my machine even if they offered to do it for FREE. I just wanted to get my machine back. The next day my husband went to WUAQ to find my machine sitting right next to the front door. Anyone could have wheeled it out the door (I have an embroidery machine bag with wheels). That would not matter to them because they "can't be held responsible for thief or damage while in their care", per their contract. All I can say about Wish Upon A Quilt is - I WISH I NEVER CALLED THEM!!! Take my advice, stay far away. WUAQ has Crabby old ladies with attitudes and overpriced services and merchandise. I'll drive the extra distance and take my business to a place where I will be treated right and I can trust. The Good News is I did NOT buy the $2,000 machine I was interested in purchasing from them. read more

I just purchased a Janome Horizon 8900 from Wish Upon a Quilt, and what a wonderful experience it was. Lori was so helpful explaining the features of the machine and making sure I have the accessories I'll need for the type of sewing I do. I'll be back to purchase fabric for a future project - just looking around, the selection was good. Hope to take a class or two in the future as well. read more

This store is such a cute and cozy store and has high quality fabric. I live right down the street from it and never knew it was there until a few weeks ago. I was tired of the poor quality fabric I kept finding at J's and thanks to google, I found this wonderful shop. I plan to take a class or two when work slows down. The fabric is not any more expensive than the two other fabric exclusive shops in the Raleigh area. The quality and selection of fabric is amazing. The ladies that work there are always more than happy to answer questions and assist in matching colors, etc if you need it. read more
