Came here on a Friday evening for happy hour! Bar was full so we sat at a table. I'm upset I don't remember the bartender's name but he was very nice and welcoming! We had the Bootsy Collins, very refreshing drink. I'd recommend trying it, a nice remix of a Moscow mule in my opinion but even better..with tequila! The catfish nuggets were very good, perfect texture. The dipping sauce it came with was different..not tartar sauce but more lime-like. But the fish was so good, you really didn't need a sauce. $2 off all drinks: two drinks, a shot and shared catfish nuggets for $22pp..I will absolutely be back. I was in the area on a Sunday afternoon and went on Yelp to find something for lunch. Many places nearby were closed. I found Wishbone and went in and sat at the counter as it was busy and I was alone. I got the Chicken & Waffle and some iced tea. Probably some of the best southern cuisine I've had in Chicago! The space is really large and has lots of cool art, great atmosphere. They offer a variety of fresh juices and fruit smoothies which was perfect for the heat wave were experiencing. I ordered a carrot-beet-ginger juice and my sister had a mango-strawberry smoothie. Fresh and refreshing! I also ordered the seasonal soup which is gazpacho, one of my favorites and hard to find in the states. This gazpacho was so tasty with great flavor and lots going on and made a great appetizer. We also ordered the blackened rainbow trout which was cooked PERFECTLY-juicy and flaky and well seasoned. It comes with a little cup of pickled red onion and cabbage and a lemon wedge which complemented the meat well. My sister ordered the jambalaya Cajun stew with succulent stewed chicken, spicy sausage slices in a flavorful tomato sauce. The portion was enough for two people imho. We also ordered sides included with our mains like a bowl of red and juicy watermelon, a chunky heirloom tomato and cucumber vinegar salad, the creamy Mac and cheese, and the melt in your mouth corn muffins. We were stuffed but made room for dessert and split a slice of their chocolate pecan pie-a cross between a chocolate chip cookie and the classic pecan pie that was super rich and delicious served with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Grew up in Wisconsin, live in Chicago, so not a lot of southern cooking in my background : ) However, the chicken was tasty, moist, not greasy. Potatoes were ok, different consistency than I'm used to. Others in my party enjoyed the jambalaya, the southern fried catfish, and collard greens. Fine Coffee, and unobtrusive service. I was able to park well on top of it. Great brunch spot, the cajun food just makes for so many natural brunch options. Often visited the Lakeview location prior to its closure. Mos trecently got some cajun omelettes and a bread pudding. The omelette was filling and with enough protein filling to justify the cost. Good flavor mixture but could've used a little more spice. The bread pudding was awesome, tons of sauce on top of delicious bread. I've also had blackened catfish on other visits which is good and some of the bbq benedict options. TL:DR - Food is delicious. But so many issues with their valentine's day dinner. Prices kept increasing, nearly doubling in price from when I placed my order to when I paid for it. Several dishes missing from my order when I got home. ---------------------------------------------------- Man, the food at this place is AMAZING, but the customer service experience from beginning to end was ridiculously poor. Had a gift card to this place and thought Valentine's day would be a great time to use it. They had a pre-fix menu online for $25 per person, you get an app, a salad, an entrée w/sides, and dessert. Things started off pretty rough from the moment I called in the morning to place my dinner order. The first person who answered the phone put me on hold the moment I mentioned the valentine's day menu, after a few moments a second person and they also put me on hold when I mentioned I wanted the pre-fix menu, then finally a third person took my order but put me on hold when I mentioned a gift card. It shouldn't be this hard people. On top of that, the gentleman told me that there is a $10 charge per person to take out the valentine's day dinner. Ok fine, it's COVID, my guess is they're trying to support their staff who would lose tips for take out. I was then told to call back 30 min before my pick up time to confirm. I called back later that day to confirm my pick up, was then told it's actually $15 extra charge per person so it's $40 per person for the pre-fix dinner vs. the $25 that was STILL ADVERTISED ON THEIR WEBSITE. After going in and paying the now $40 per person price, I come home to realize I didn't even get all my food. I'm missing a side from each entree.... While the food was really good, the service was inexcusable. I just don't think I can overlook this and come back in the future. read more

Wishbone is an all time brunch spot for us. Although it's been awhile since we go here. The place - they have huge inside seating and outside patio. Since its nice today, we decided to seat outside. Plus we have kids so outside its better in case they act like a bunch nutso. The decor is a bit old, they need to kinda update. Although, I just found out that they will move to a new location in fall 2018. So thats good, that means more update decor. The service - kinda 'meh'. Our server is super busy handling other tables. He probably handles like 8 tables and each table at least have 4 customers. So I can tell that he's a bit overwhelmed. The food/taste - it's typical diner/american brunch food. I had the vegetable omelette and they put too many spinach in it. So it kinda make the omelette a bit watery. I ate it though just because i was too hungry. My kids have mac and cheese and grilled cheese with ham. I always ordered two different things from the menu and asked for another bowl or plate and kinda mix and match for the kids. My husband had the fried fish. He finished the food so I guess its good for him. The price - it's reasonable, just like any other restaurant that serves breakfast, brunch. Decided to try this place for brunch, as we thought the Louisiana/ southern concept sounded interesting and different!! Sure enough, it was just that!! The dishes we ordered definitely had a Louisiana flare with the spices, but not "spicy." Got the cheesy grits as a side which were very cheesy (typical southern style) and very delicious!! The wishbone is an old favorite of mine from many years ago when they first opened in west town on Grand Ave and then then relocated to they new location just minutes from downtown ! The food here is wonderful breakfast is king! Pancakes with. This is such a great breakfast spot in Chicago. The food has a Southern flair to it. I ordered the Louisiana bowl with grits and eggs over medium. I can't describe the taste other than perfection. It was one of those meals that are so good you can't stop eating, even if you're full. My husband ordered the jumbalaya omelette with plain grits on the side. I have such great memories of Wishbone when I lived and worked in the west loop. Tonight, I stopped by for dinner before a show. I couldn't be happier that I remembered how great the food is here! Thank you to all the Yelpers who persuaded my visit here!!! I've never had Shrimp & Grits before, and this restaurant set the bar!!! It was beyond flavourful and the portion size was higher than my expectations. There is a decent amount of shrimp given. The grits are cooked to perfection because it was neither too watery or too thick, from what I've been told it is exactly what it should be! The Mac and cheese came with cornbread (as do all sides). The Lexington Coleslaw was interesting due to its different texture - a lot like porridge. The crab cakes were decent, but you can definitely taste the crab cakes! BREAD PUDDING: favourite dessert of all time and this one tops all the others I've tried - including my own. The caramel drizzled on the top was perfect, texture and flavour is underestimated! On top of that, our waitress was very polite and kind! She gave us input on the Southern style food in Chicago and welcomed us Torontonians with ease. The grits were cool and the muffin was soft and tasty. I also had a chance to try the plain shrimp and grits which was mouth watering and some of their bacon. The chefs are not stingy on the shrimp!!
