Great attentive bartenders with great recommendations. I enjoyed just sitting at the bar for happy hour. The drink of the day was sangria. It was super refreshing!

We enjoyed our visit at ETC overall. The service was a little slow at times, it seemed as if our waiter was also our bartender so drinks took a bit longer, but they were boozy and delicious. The food was good. We enjoyed the chicken, deviled eggs and pasta, it was spicy and full of flavor! The best part was the music, I love good jams although it was soooooo loud lol

Five stars for the brunch menu. The food was excellent! Went for brunch Sunday. It was a little later in the afternoon so it wasn't too busy. The waitress came to our table abruptly. It was sort of weird. She was new I was told. She didn't say hi, didn't offer any specials. I mean nothing but "can I get you guys something to drink?" We laughed because it was the way she approached the table. Anyways, She came back and we gave her our food orders and drinks. When I tell you I didn't see her again at our table until check time? I'm not kidding. We were flagging random staff down to get things like condiments and a dropped fork replaced. The place has a weird echo to it and no music. Like nothing soaking up that extra space in sound. They need a rug or two, music or TVs. The echo was loud and made the ambience boring and weird. The decor is beautiful however. Love the art. I called for the manager because they add gratuity to the check. Ok. Can you add better service? It's a black owned restaurant so I didn't ask that it be removed from my check but I wanted the manager to know about the bad service i received. I have been back for private parties and I would return for dinner to give it another try. We tried the lemon ricotta pancakes. Excellent. Chicken and waffles. Delicious. Mimosas.

I stopped by here during a Friday happy hour. I ordered the Deviled Eggs, Arugula Salad (not pictured), Truffle Hot & Dry Rub Wings, and the ETC Burger & Fries. The Deviled Eggs were delicious. The Arugula Salad was surprisingly refreshing and the vinaigrette was sharp and flavorful. Unfortunately, the wings left a bit to be desired. The Truffle Hot had a bit of a muted spice (and I LOVE SPICY FOOD). The Dry Rub was pretty good. Lastly, the ETC Burger was solid. The Bacon Jam and bun were the stars of the show for me. The service was timely, attentive, and very nice (always appreciated). The restaurant had good music and lowered "sexy" lighting. I enjoyed how spacious the place was, which can be misleading from outside. Ultimately, I think etc. is worth the Happy Hour and parts of the full menu. If you prefer bar food, then you may want to try the full menu options (Oxtails, Red Snapper, Salmon)

This is a beautiful upscale modern restaurant. The service was phenomenal because our waiter took the time to answer all our questions and make recommendations. He checked in on us frequently and made us feel like queens! The food from appetizer, to dinner to dessert was a 9 out of 10! This is a great place to have a date night or impress your boss.

My mom and I were on our annual girls' trip, and for her birthday, I wanted to treat her to a special dinner so I chose etc. I was immediately drawn to the restaurant because of the chef's reputation, and from the moment we arrived, the experience exceeded my expectations. We were warmly greeted at the door by a wonderful gentleman who recognized us right away and wished my mom a happy birthday, it was such a thoughtful touch. Our reservation was honored promptly, and we were seated without any wait. Our server, whose name unfortunately escapes me; was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. He had a genuinely positive energy and made us feel truly cared for. To celebrate my mom's birthday, they even offered her a complimentary glass of champagne, which added a lovely, elevated touch to the evening. What we ordered: Steak Frites - 14 oz Porcini-Crusted C.A.B. New York Strip with Mashed Potatoes ($54) ETCpresso Martini - Mezcal, Demerara, Espresso ($19) I ended up updating my order since the in-person menu differed slightly from the one online, but everything worked out perfectly. My mom and I shared the steak, and it was absolutely delicious. I even convinced her to try it cooked medium--and she loved it! The restaurant itself is beautifully maintained, and even the restrooms were spotless, which speaks to the overall care put into the space. Honestly, I'm surprised this place isn't packed every night; it's a hidden gem. Delicious food, outstanding service, and a great atmosphere. We will definitely recommend it to friends visiting Chicago.

Etc -- Experience Taste Cocktails. Went the first time for Happy Hour as we often do to scope out a new spot. Full menu had some interesting offerings so we were cautiously optimistic. Hoping for some interesting Southern Food. Beautiful room and bar. Club music pounding. Fine but at 4pm?!?! Welcoming reception, friendly if not pushy service. Started with a couple of delicious featured drinks-- Hugo Spritz, Cognac Old Fashioned, Fried green tomatoes with burrata, smoked catfish dip with crackers, shrimp cebiche (their spelling). All were fine but not noteworthy. And that's why we didn't order more. Two menu items that looked interesting were the chicken suya and oxtail and grits, the latter of which seemed too heavy for this weather, the former too pricey. The rest of the menu items were typical of many American restaurants : Ora Salmon, burger, steak frites, pasta (tempting bucatini!), fish. See how all over the place ? All seemed too pricey to take a chance on. Saw someone on the sidewalk patio with the burger and it looked ok -- I'm just not a fan of all the rich toppings it came with. Chef /owner seems to have a point of view but isn't pulling the trigger on it which is a shame. When you want to be all things to all people, ya just basic. And there's no reason for ETC to be that.

Wow wow wow. I can't wait to return to Etc! I'm a sucker for a good fried green tomato and theirs is incredibly good. The star of the show for me was their chicken curry - it was full of flavor, I highly recommend it. And make sure you get those collard greens too!

Yesterday me, my best friend and her friends all visited Etc after an aerial fitness class. Nothing beats grabbing brunch with a group of women after a fitness class. One of the friends made reservations beforehand. We were a bit earlier to our reservation, but the waiter had no problem sitting us down and taking our coats which is thoughtful considering we all had our winter coats on. We took in the space and one of the friends took to the mirror in the corner for selfies. I liked the giant wall of white roses. I was definitely feeling the vibe inside. We looked over the menu and started brunch the right way with pineapple and grapefruit mimosas. We ordered the biscuit as an appetizer. It came with butter and jelly. Since one of the friends loves biscuits she was raving about how good it was and was contemplating about getting another, but thankfully one of the friends decided to give their portion up so she can enjoy it. For our entrees we ordered the breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, and the breakfast burrito. My best friend orders the breakfast sandwich. On the menu it said it came with beef bacon, but it wasn't on the entree when it came. My best friend alerted our waitress and our waitress said they made changes to the menu. They did bring out a plate of beef bacon for her to put it on her breakfast sandwich. I had the breakfast burrito and it was so good. The great thing about Etc is they have turkey and beef bacon which I really appreciate. There's not many opportunities for me to enjoy beef bacon at a restaurant so I think it's great they have it as an option. We were all raving about the potatoes and how nicely seasoned they were. My friends saw the aioli dripping from my burrito and thought it looked so good! And WAS! Everyone else enjoyed their entree and had enough to take home. I can't wait to sink my teeth into the other half of my breakfast burrito as I'm typing the review. I've had Etc on my list to visit for dinner so I hope to be following up my brunch review with a dinner review soon.

Visited for the 1st time to try the happy hr menu before a bulls game. 1 thing I would like to point out is that this place is very spacious and the setup is well laid out. While we only at the bar I noticed that the tablea & chairs throughout the restaurant were nicely spaces out. I've found that alot of establishments will squeeze alot of tables & chairs into a space which makes it feel clutter & uncomfortable. The apps we tried were 11/10. We had the catfish dip & tomotoes. The housemade crackers that come with the dip needed to be its own item...11/10! Drinks were pretty good. Service was welcoming. The hostess even came back & asked how we enjoyed things. The bartistas were friendly too. I'll be returning to try both the brunch & regular menus!

I was excited to try this new spot. The food was decent and the ambiance was even better. I appreciated the personalized menu for my special day. I wanted to try the catfish spread but it wasn't an option on the menu that day. The menu changes. The service was great, the young lady was attentive and helpful.

I was really excited to try ETC.--especially for their biscuits, and they definitely delivered on that front! The biscuits hit the spot and satisfied my craving. The service was good, and the décor and ambiance had a nice upscale-casual vibe. As for the rest of the food, it was just alright. Nothing was bad, but nothing wowed me either. I did really enjoy the crispy potatoes--definitely a standout! However, I didn't leave feeling like I needed to rush back anytime soon. Overall, it's a solid spot with good service and a nice atmosphere, but it didn't quite hit that "must-return-ASAP" level for me. Would I go back? Maybe. Would I recommend trying it at least once? Sure

Very chic and elegant dining experience. Interior was perfectly done. Had a beautifully done very large white rose mural on one side which was eye catching and memorable, looks 3D. They also have live music which gave it a romantic vibe. Tried only a couple of things as we weren't very hungry and for the most part was good. The deviled egg appetizer was superb especially topped with caviar....yummmm. Also ordered the CAB Filet Au Poivre which is a 45 day dry aged filet (medium rare) served with side of garlic potato cake (looked like hash browns but with a garlicky flavor which hit the spot) and green beans. Honestly the meat was cooked to my liking but felt it was a bit salty side. They were out of the whole fish so guess will have to travel to try it another day. Also have to try their dessert next time for sure. Banana pudding is calling my name

    Lemon blueberry pancakes are delicious.

We chose to dine at Girl & the Goat in Chicago, a restaurant we had never visited before. The acclaimed restaurant by renowned chef Stephanie Izard truly lived up to its stellar reputation! One of the first things we appreciated was the convenience of the restaurant's valet parking, located right by the front patio. At $22 for up to four hours and $26 for four to eight hours, the rates were quite reasonable for the area. As soon as the three of us stepped inside Girl & the Goat (we had made a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Friday), we were warmly greeted by one of the two friendly hostesses, and were promptly led to a comfortable four-top table with a banquette and two chairs along the wall. We felt fortunate to have one of the better tables in the dining room, as some of the others were positioned very close together. The nearby two-top tables, in particular, were quite small and placed only a short distance from ours. The restaurant's rustic-industrial décor was dark but trendy and stylish, the lively and vibrant vibe was warm and welcoming. However, I have to mention that it was really loud in the dining room, as guests seemed to be enjoying themselves and talked loudly.  It was hard to hear our server and the staff who delivered and explained the dishes to us.  Our server, Yazmin, was extremely friendly and attentive.  It was very sweet of her to wish us a happy anniversary both in the beginning  and at the end of the meal.  She also checked in on us several times during the evening.  Now, on to the food and drinks. I started with a glass of the NA Sparkling Rosé ($17), which was light, crisp, and quite refreshing. My husband ordered a glass of Le Colture Prosecco ($18), while our daughter chose the Sun Kid ($18). She enjoyed her drink, although she felt the portion was a bit small, as the glass was filled with a lot of ice that took up much of the space. Since the restaurant offers small to medium plates which are shareable, Yazmin advised us to get 5 to 6 dishes for 3 people to share.  We decided to get 5 savory dishes and 3 desserts to share: Savory dishes: - Chickpea Fritters ($20), goat yogurt, green chutney, sev spice crunch, pickled rhubarb. - Pan Roasted Halibut ($37), miso-Marcona almond butter, spring onion blueberry nuoc cham. - Roasted Pig Face ($28), sunny side egg, tamarind, cilantro, red wine-maple, potato stix. - Goat Empanadas ($24), smoked tomato-corn salsa, roasted poblano crema queso fresco. - Confit Goat Belly ($38), strawberry goat braise, smoked yogurt drizzle, pickled strawberries. Desserts: - Vacation, Please! ($16), toasted coconut crunch, lemon passion fruit sorbet, rum-soaked pineapple cake. - Berry Yummy Par-tea ($16), earl grey soaked sponge cake, yuzu curd, spiced blackberries. - Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash ($16), olive oil semifreddo, chocolate fennel crunch, basil granita. The meal was just phenomenal!  All the savory dishes were cooked perfectly with bold flavors; the meats were tender and full of flavors.  There were dishes that we normally would not have ordered if we saw them on menus of other restaurants.  Here, we tried them and were delighted that we did!  Our consensus is that Roasted Pig Face is our most favorite! It is everything we love in a comfort dish -- crispy on the outside, meltingly tender inside, and packed with rich, balanced flavor.  We will definitely order this again!  The Confit Goat Belly is a close second, with buttery, fall-apart meat and just the right balance of richness, acidity, and crunch. For dessert, "Vacation, Please!" is the one that we will always come back for. The toasted coconut crunch adds texture, the lemon passion fruit sorbet brings a refreshing tang, and the rum-soaked pineapple cake ties it all together with just the right amount of sweetness.  The other two desserts that we ordered were also very good.  The staff even brought out a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream on the house, with two lit candles to celebrate our anniversary - a thoughtful touch that made the evening even more memorable.  This dessert spread was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. I'd like to mention that the restaurant added a 4% surcharge to the bill, which the customer may request to have the surcharge remove if you choose.  We let them keep it. We spent about two hours at the restaurant. The savory dishes came out very quickly, the pace probably was even a tad too fast, but the desserts made up for it by taking a longer time.  We did not mind as we were still full, and had time to enjoy the ambiance more.  I would say it is a restaurant great for group gathering and celebratory functions, but not so much for intimate romantic date night.  All in all, it was a wonderful dinner, we look forward to returning again.

I was there the other week (I've been here at least five times before), and a busser--not our…read morewaiter--started clearing both of our plates before we were finished eating. We each only had a couple of bites left, but it definitely gave off an "okay, you're done now" vibe. Then he went to take the green beans (arguably the cult classic on the menu), and we still had more than half of them left. I had to stop him and say, "Yeah, we're not done with those. We paid for them. Can you put them in a to-go box instead?" For context, it was about 20 minutes before closing, but we ordered with plenty of time and were already eating with a "get in, eat, and get out" mindset. I've just never had someone at a restaurant start clearing plates while we were still actively eating--without asking, "Are you finished?" "Can I clear this?" or "Would you like a to-go box?" It was just... "You're done, these are leaving now." We were there for less than 45 minutes, left about 15 minutes before closing, and spent over $200 (not including the tip). With so many options in Chicago, I don't see myself coming back here.

Hands down, and I don't say this lightly - Boka is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. I don't think it's too wild to say it may certainly be my FAVORITE restaurant in the US of A. This past week was my second pilgrimage to Boka, and I was stoked as ever. We ordered some non-alcoholic drinks, a few appetizers, and our entrees (duck and black truffle chicken). We had a nice discussion with the waiter and shared our enthusiasm and excitement with him. We shared that this was our return to my safe culinary haven, and I was prepared to be dazzled again. And dazzled I was. The chicken was phenomenal. The flavors were amazing and so poignant, and the tenderness of chicken made you really question if you were eating chicken at all. Everything was so moist and tender, and each bite was a ballet of flavor in your mouth. The duck, although not the star of the show, was hearty and delicious as well. The parsnip puree added an earthiness complexion to each slice of duck. The kicker of the night was when our server brought us our bill at the end. He gifted us complimentary menus of what we ordered that night, paired with a generous "Welcome Back" and the date of our wonderful evening. That small, but mighty, gesture encapsulates Boka in a nutshell. Fine dining, excellent quality of food, topped with service that was personally catered to make our meal enjoyable. It's about the experience, and every aspect of our experience at Boka was met with extraordinary marks. I'm dreaming already of round 3 at Boka. When? I don't know. But I'll be ready to tango again.

The dry aged beef tartare was one of my favorite dishes of the night. The crispy potato chips added a great crunch, and the cornichons brought just the right amount of acidity to balance everything out. Next came the Hokkaido scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. I also appreciated that the kitchen split all of our appetizers onto separate plates since we were sharing. It's a small detail, but it made the meal feel much more thoughtful. For our entrees, we ordered the black truffle chicken and the glazed beef short rib. I'm not sure how they prepared the chicken, but it was incredibly tender with some of the most flavorful skin I've had. Every bite was juicy and almost melted in your mouth. The short rib was just as impressive, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I've also done the tasting menu here before, and it was just as memorable. You definitely won't leave hungry. The restaurant has a great atmosphere too. It feels perfect for a date night without being so dim that you can barely see your food.

Personally, I think it could have used a little more sauce to tie everything together. While the beef shines, the overall bite felt a bit one-dimensional to me. It's still a very good burger and I'm glad I tried it, but based on the expectations, it landed in the "good, not life-changing" category. I would venture to say that the dimly-lit yet perfect feeling vibe of the restaurant is what sets it apart. If not for the design of the restaurant, it would be just another steakhouse. The waiters are as pretentious as the hostesses. You know you you walk into a Restoration Hardware store and someone making minimum wage gives you, 'mansion attitude'? That's everyone we encountered at Bacette's ... insufferable snobs. We started out with cocktails, which were well made. Nowhere were the prices but expect a cocktail to set you back $25. The steaks are around $80 - $120. We both had the bone-in filet mignon, which was $89 at the time of the review. I guess it's supposedly a rare cut of meat ... although when I asked our butcher about it being rare, he chuckled and said, 'whatever sells steaks, I guess'. The filet was good ... again, nothing amazing ... on par with a chain like Capital Grille. I ordered mine medium rare and it came medium and a bit under seasoned. Each steak comes with a side of Bearnaise sauce, which honestly was the best part of the meal. Rarely would I consider ruining a $89 steak by dipping it in sauce ... but it kind of needed the extra kick. We got asparagus and the truffle Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was better than the steak, however, we were expecting the normal overflowing sides, which are usually too much for two people to finish. The Mac and cheese was pretty small and we felt like it was more like a single side ... especially given that the filet (minus the bone) was probably around 8 ounces. Asparagus was just your average asparagus. We had the chocolate pie and ice cream for dessert. The chocolate cake was almost like an entire slice of cake frosting with a scoop of dense whipped cream on top. Way too sweet and we barely ate half amongst the both of us. The ice cream was nothing special. We didn't realize you could not have a reservation and sit at the bar. Honestly, we were placed downstairs at a table ... and felt like we were sitting in a basement. It was not as nice as the upper restaurant and they refused to move us when we asked them if we could sit upstairs in the better part. She gleefully said it would be a two hour wait to change tables. If we knew we could have just snagged an empty bar seat upstairs, we'd have done that because it's better than the basement. Although, we saw some near arguments as people rushed in to get a bar stool in front of people who were waiting a long time. And, it's a little awkward to eat with vultures standing behind you waiting to jump into your seat, I'd imagine. So maybe make sure that you request to be seated upstairs and see if the mean girls hostess will accommodate the request. Overall, Chicago has so many good steakhouses, the fact that this one ranked so highly mystifies me. I've been to several better than this which were not even ranked. The atmosphere is cool ... everything else is average ... except for the attitudes which are below average.
